BITTER rivals Daniel Dubois and Nathan Gorman are finally in agreement…..both insist that Andy Ruiz has the tools to give Anthony Joshua a hard night.

Roly-poly Ruiz challenges Joshua for his IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight titles this weekend, with many writing him off.

Gorman (16-0, 11 KOs) has been stung by criticism of his own shape with Dubois (11-0, 10 KOs) who he faces for vacant British heavyweight title at The O2, London on Saturday July 13, poking fun at him.

But peace broke out when the pair gave verdicts on the big fight at Madison Square Garden.

Gorman who has been branded “slobby” by Dubois says: “Ruiz is a typical Mexican. He gets in close, roughs you up, throws body shots, hooks and is very fast-handed.

“I am gonna back Joshua, but it wouldn’t surprise me if there is an upset. It wouldn’t surprise me because Ruiz can fight.

“I like the way he and Joshua fight. In my opinion it is a much better fight than Joshua against Jarrell Miller, miles better.”

Dubois also believes Ruiz isn’t to be underestimated when he meets Joshua in New York on Saturday night.

“I think it’ll be a good fight. I think Ruiz will give all he has got. He has nothing to lose,” said the rapidly emerging knockout artist.

“Joshua is the defending champion and it’ll be good while it lasts. May the best man win.”

Whoever wins the brilliant Dubois v Gorman match which is live on BT Sport will be closing in on the world’s best, while the loser faces a rebuild job.

“My main concentration is Daniel, but in the next 12 to 18 months I can get there,” added Gorman who admits it is hard not to think of becoming world champion.

“Being a British heavyweight champion these days you are virtually on that world door, aren’t you?

“Britain has the best heavyweights in the world so it is the perfect era to be the British heavyweight champion.”

The heavyweights, bigger than life in fact and fiction, are hard to judge. That’s another way of saying nothing much at all has changed in a division still dormant. It’s been that way for maybe a decade, or perhaps long enough to declare it dead instead of dormant, a kinder yet still deadly diagnosis.

There are always reasons to think it is about to stage some sort of resurrection. There was Anthony Joshua’s stoppage of Wladimir Klitschko in 2017. There was the controversy and compelling drama ofDeontay Wilder’s draw with Tyson Fury in December.

Each was terrific, yet neither bout looks to represent the milestone marking when the old flagship resurfaced with its past glory eventually restored. Battleships just stay on the bottom and rust away.

Yet, the attempt at restoration continues. At least, it does with Joshua’s American debut Saturday night (DAZN 8:30 p.m. ET) against Andy Ruiz Jr. in a place that defines the heavyweight’s golden age. Mention Madison Square Garden and you think of Ali-Frazier. First names not necessary. Ali-Frazier is a universal metaphor for what rivalries do. A sport without one is crickets.

Too bad the heavyweights haven’t had one for at least the aforementioned decade. For a while, you could just blame it on an absence of good heavyweights in the post Mike Tyson-Evander Holyfield-Lennox Lewis era. Cycles are like the tides. They come. They go. This time around, however, an incoming opportunity at rebuilding the division is being squandered.

There was momentum, first with Joshua’s stunner over the dominant Klitschko in London and then the Fury-Wilder draw in Los Angeles. Maybe, some of that momentum can be recaptured with Joshua’s debut in an arena with a name synonymous with the one rivalry to which all rivalries are compared.

 Ali-Frazier is the historical standard.

But boxing fans aren’t asking for history. Just Wilder-versus-Joshua. Or a Fury-Wilder rematch. At this point, one of the two would do. Do just fine.

But, no, now we’re talking about Wilder-Joshua sometime next year. Wasn’t next year what we were talking about last year? Like I said, the heavyweights never change.

“It’s embarrassing,’’ Joshua promoter Eddie Hearn said while talking to the media in New York this week amid the pre-fight hype for the UK heavyweight’s U.S. debut against Ruiz.

Hearn was specifically addressing Wilder’s announcement this week that he had agreed to a rematch with Luis Ortiz in September. Hearn’s hope had been to secure a deal for the Joshua-Wilder showdown later this year.

He foresaw November, a Holiday date to celebrate a heavyweight rebound.

“The main man is Joshua,’’ Hearn told the BBC. “But the fight the world wants to see is Wilder. Unfortunately, he is not giving the public what they want. He is not even talking about that fight.

“Which is frustrating.’’

Check and check.

Embarrassing and frustrating.

That’s not a combo good for fans, promoters, networks or the fighters in a hopelessly balkanized business. In Wilder’s case, it’s also not much of a surprise. Since the Fury draw, he has been talking, talking and talking. He’s also thrown one massive right hand, knocking out Dominic Breazeale with one righteous shot.

For all of the criticism of all he doesn’t do, his right hand is a thing of beauty. It’s a silencer, too. His crazy rant about wanting to add “a body” to his record was virtually silenced by a home-run shot to Breazeale’s chin.

Wilder’s right is a punch to behold. Fear, too, especially if you are Joshua. Remember, Klitschko knocked down Joshua with a right hand. If that right had been thrown by Wilder, Joshua might not have gotten up.

Also, Wilder might have become a better fighter, thanks to 12-rounds against the skilled and resilient Fury. Wilder threw that right against Breazeale with more focused resolve than he has in perhaps any prior bout. We’ll learn more about that in a rematch with Ortiz.

However, Ortiz also is real threat to what Hearn had hoped would finally happen later this year. Ortiz is clever enough to unravel a promoter’s best-laid plans with a skillset versatile enough to win a decision over Wilder. Wilder only escaped a scorecard loss in their first one because of that right hand. It landed late. But it landed.

Meanwhile, Joshua (22-0,21 KOs) has to produce a performance against Ruiz (32-1, 21 KOs) that validates his claim on being the face of the heavyweight division. There was no argument in the immediate aftermath of his victory over Klitschko. But subsequent victories over Carlos Takam, Joseph Parker and AlexanderPovetkin left doubts, questions about whether Joshua had left the best of himself in the ring againstKlitschko, who is rumored to be thinking about a comeback

Joshua can deliver a convincing knockout of those doubts against Ruiz, who took the bout when a positivePED test forced Jerrell Miller out of the bout and into disgrace.

Still, Ruiz is exactly the kind of fighter who can make the winner look very bad. He’s chubby. He’s short. Next to the chiseled Joshua, Ruiz looks like a sagging mattress. But looks are deceiving. Ruiz’ hands are as fast as any in the business. If he were dealing cards, he could make a King look like a deuce. In the ring, he could make a Joshua look like a Joker.

That’s the scenario that Joshua and Hearn need to avoid. They need a quick KO. So, too, does the heavyweight division that has been dormant and done for too long.

“The last fight he had was against Kavaliauskas and he was ranked highly. He was a tough opponent for Ray and a lot of people thought he won that fight. This is a big step up. Ray Robinson will give me a test. There won’t be any room for complacency in there on Saturday and I’m going to get the job done and come away with the W, sit back and watch the rest of the card and hopefully the rest of the British fighters do the same.”

Joshua Buatsi – Croydon, England – 10-0, 8 KOs – defending his WBA International Light-Heavyweight title against Marco Antonio Periban:

“This is a good opportunity. Like you said, Periban is a well-known Mexican fighter. He’s going to come and bring experience to the table. People are curious and everyone is intrigued to see what is going to happen so it’s up to me to go out there and put on a good show. “I think anyway it comes man. I’ve prepared to do ten rounds, if it goes the distance cool, if I sense any vulnerabilities or any opportunities there I’ll be there to take them. If it goes the distance cool, if it doesn’t then happy days. 

“It was good being in Miami. It was the first time I’ve been in the US overall so it was a good experience seeing how Joshua does things leading up to a fight like this. As always I’m observing and seeing how things are done so one day when I’m in that position I can do the same thing.”

Anthony Joshua-managed Super-Welterweight talent Souleymane Cissokho will kick off the action at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday June 1 when he takes on Mexico’s Vladimir Hernandez on his first outing in the US.

Callum Smith will defend his WBA World ‘Super’, WBC Diamond and Ring Magazine Super-Middleweight belts against Hassan N’Dam on the blockbuster Anthony Joshua OBE vs. Andy Ruiz Jr. World title bill at Madison Square Garden in New York on June 1, live on DAZN in the US and Sky Sports Box Office in the UK.

‘Mundo’ (25-0, 18 KOs) captured the WBA World title and was crowned World Boxing Super Series champion following a stunning seventh round knockout victory over British rival George Groves in Saudi Arabia last September – a win that also saw the Liverpudlian claim the vacant Ring Championship. Smith puts those titles on the line for the first time against former Middleweight World ruler N’Dam in his second appearance as a professional in the US.

N’Dam (37-3, 21 KOs) has operated at World level since landing the WBA Interim Middleweight World title against Avtandil Khurtsidze in 2010. He defended that title twice before losing on points to Peter Quillin with the WBO Middleweight crown at stake. A landslide win over Curtis Steven qualified the Frenchman for a shot at the IBF title in 2015 – an explosive contest with David Lemieux followed with the Canadian coming out on top on the score cards.

In 2017 N’Dam took on London 2012 Olympic gold medallist Ryota Murata for the vacant WBA regular World title, which he won via a split decision. The pair rematched five months later, again on Japanese soil, where N’Dam was forced into retirement in the seventh round. He most recently defeated four-time World title challenger Martin Murray by a 12 round majority decision in December.

“I’ve had a good camp and I’m looking forward to walking to the ring as a World Champion for the first time in my career,” said Smith. “I worked so hard to get where I am and now the task is to keep hold of my titles and target those big fights. To have my first defence at Madison Square Garden is going to be special and it’s another box ticked for me personally. Anthony Joshua has insisted that he hasn’t underestimated Andy Ruiz Jr. “one bit” ahead of their unified Heavyweight World title clash at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday June 1, shown live on DAZN in the US and Sky Sports Box Office in the UK.

The California-based Mexican is in his second World title tilt having pushed former WBO Heavyweight ruler Joseph Parker to the limit in the Kiwi’s hometown in December 2016, being edged out by the finest of margins via a majority decision.

Ruiz has another golden opportunity to create history by becoming the first ever Mexican Heavyweight World Champion in the Big Apple next week and the ‘Destroyer’ has warned IBF, WBA, WBO and IBO champ ‘AJ’ to under-estimate him at his peril.

Josh Kelly will make his US debut against Philadelphia’s Ray Robinson on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s Heavyweight World title clash with Andy Ruiz Jr. at Madison Square Garden in New York on June 1, live on DAZN in the US and Sky Sports Box Office in the UK.

Sunderland star Kelly (9-0, 6 KOs) outclassed the previously undefeated Pole Przemyslaw Runowski on his big ring return at The O2 in London last month, flooring the gutsy challenger three times to defend his WBA International title with a classy unanimous verdict after winning all ten rounds.

Kelly was due to face former World Champion David Avanesyan on the undercard of Kell Brook vs. Michael Zerafa in Sheffield, but an illness scuppered a December dust-up between the pair. A showdown with the now European Champion is at the top of Kelly’s wish list should he come through his test against Robinson.

Andy Ruiz Jr. has landed a dream World title shot at Heavyweight king Anthony Joshua OBE on Saturday June 1 at Madison Square Garden in New York, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK.

After failing a PED that put a kibosh on his heavyweight world title opportunity against Anthony Joshua on June 1st, undefeated Jarrell Miller failed two more tests that were revealed on Friday, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

The results from a blood sample collected from Miller by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association on March 31 came to light Friday and were positive for human growth hormone (HGH), which is on the World Anti-Doping Agency banned list.

“Salita Promotions and Greg Cohen Promotions are very disappointed in these findings and feel awful fight fans will be deprived of what would have been a great fight,” Dmitriy Salita and Greg Cohen, Miller’s co-promoters, told ESPN in a joint statement following the revelation of the positive test. “It’s a terrible outcome and unfortunate situation for all parties involved.”

“This is your boy ‘Big Baby’ Miller here,” an emotional Miller said. “A lot can be said right now. I gonna get straight to the point. I messed up. I messed up. I made a bad call. A lot of ways to handle a situation, I handled it wrongly and I’m paying the price for it. Missed out on is a big opportunity, and I’m hurtin’ on the inside. My heart is bleeding right now. I hurt my family, my friends, my team, my supporters. But I’m gonna own up to it. I’m gonna deal with it, I’m gonna correct it, and I’m gonna come back better. “I’m humbled by the experience. I understand how to handle certain things. I’m gonna leave it at that. I love you guys and I appreciate you guys out there, and as fighters we go through a lot and I don’t want to make it a bad name for ourselves. It’s time to do right, and get right. So I thank you guys.”

“To be honest I can’t believe it. You always want to give an athlete the benefit of the doubt, but this leaves no doubt,” Joshua promoter Eddie Hearn told ESPN. “It worries me that fighters feel the only way they can beat AJ is by taking banned substances. One thing we know is Miller is out. AJ’s new opponent for June 1 will be announced next week. Clean fighters only need apply.”

After the first positive test result, Miller claimed he had not knowingly taken a banned substance.

“I am absolutely devastated upon hearing the news my boxing license has been [denied] in NY State and I will be vigorously appealing this decision,” Miller wrote on social media earlier this week. “I have NEVER knowingly taken any banned substance and when I found out the news [Tuesday] night I was totally shocked. My team and I stand for integrity, decency & honesty and together we will stand to fight this with everything we have!”

After testing positive for a banned substance, the New York Athletic Commission has decided to not to license Jarrell Miller for a June 1st foght against Anthony Joshua at Madison Square Garden, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

“The New York State Athletic Commission has denied Jarrell Miller’s professional boxing license application for a violation relating to the use of a prohibited substance. We have no further comment at this time,” the commission said in a statement on Wednesday.

“I am on the search for a new opponent,” Joshua promoter Eddie Hearn said. “Literally anyone can get it. There are some names that would appeal to our partners — DAZN, Sky Sports and Madison Square Garden — more than others and it’s our job to get the ones that appeal most. I’ve spoken to 16 heavyweights in the last 24 hours, 10 of which are not suitable.”

“I want to thank all of my supporters who have stood by me since day one and especially during this extremely difficult time,” Miller said. “I am absolutely devastated upon hearing the news my boxing license has been revoked in NY State and I will be vigorously appealing this decision. I have NEVER knowingly taken any banned substance and when I found out the news (Tuesday) night I was totally shocked. My team and I stand for integrity, decency & honesty and together we will stand to fight this with everything we have!”

“This was a voluntarily test that I was very happy to do and these results came just one week after another voluntarily test that I had taken which was completely clean,” he said. “I refuse to just lie down and let my dream be taken away from me when I know in my heart that I’ve done nothing wrong. 15 years of hard work. I’m WARRIOR. I don’t need a banned substance.

“Remember don’t believe everything you hear and see. The facts will prevail and I shall be vindicated. I don’t have anything to hide and the truth will make itself known.”
“I spoke to Luis Ortiz’s manager and he felt it was too short notice for the fight,” Hearn said. “Whether that changes in the next couple of days, that’s possible. There is still time. We will take anyone from the top 15.”

Hearn listed a few others that would be acceptable: Michael Hunter, a former U.S. Olympian who Hearn recently signed; Oscar Rivas, who knocked out Bryant Jennings in January; New York-based Polish contender Adam Kownacki; secondary titlist Manuel Charr; and Kubrat Pulev, one of Joshua’s mandatory challengers.

“Whoever wants it can get it,” Hearn said. “The show goes on. We have over 10,000 Brits flying out. We need to put on a good main event and that’s what AJ is training for. This is the Anthony Joshua show, not the Jarrell Miller show.”

28-year-old Dychko (7-0, 7 KOs), a two-time Olympic super-heavyweight bronze medallist, has contentious history with the current WBA Champion Joshua. The 6? 9? Kazakhstani lost a controversial decision (13-11) to him in the semi-finals of the 2012 Summer Olympics in Joshua’s homeland of England.

Post-fight reports questioned the scoring openly.

For example: “Joshua defeated Kazakhstan’s Ivan Dychko by a 13-11 score. The scoring for the fight was very odd with the judges scoring both the 1st and 2nd rounds even despite Dychko clearly getting the better of the slow-moving arm-punching Joshua.”

Dychko’s professional career has been dedicated to getting his revenge.

“He knows he didn’t beat me then and he still can’t beat me,” said a fired-up Dychko. “He got a hometown decision and ended up ‘winning’ my gold medal. Now is his chance to prove he deserved his success instead of it being handed to him. I’m here in great shape and ready to go.”

Dychko, who went 181-18 as an amateur, says he doesn’t need 20 professional fights to be ready for Joshua.

“He’s the same fighter he always was,” said Dychko. “He gets his world rocked in every fight and then his little bit of power bails him out when his opponents get tired. I know exactly how to beat him. I already did.”

Dychko says he’s ready and waiting for his phone to ring.

“No disrespect to Big Baby. If he ends up fighting, I am happy for him, but if Anthony Joshua needs an opponent for June 1, I am the one who deserves this. I’ll be waiting to hear from your people, Anthony.”

Heavyweight contender Jarrell Miller has failed a PED test which leaves questions about his June 1 title opportunity against champion Anthony Joshua at Madison Square Garden, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

Miller has tested positive for the banned substance GW1516 three sources with knowledge of the results told ESPN on Tuesday.

“We are in the process of obtaining further information about VADA’s finding and will have more to say soon on this developing situation,” Dmitriy Salita, Miller’s co-promoter with Greg Cohen, told ESPN after he was informed of the positive test result. “In the meantime, Jarrell continues to train for his June 1 fight against Anthony Joshua.”

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, who represents Joshua, also acknowledged the positive test.

“We have been informed by VADA that there has been an adverse finding in Jarrell Miller’s sample collected on March 20th, 2019,” Hearn said in a statement. “We are working with all relevant parties and will update with more details soon. AJ’s preparation continues for June 1st at MSG.”

GW1516, also known as Cardarine and Endurobol, is on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s banned list and is classified as a metabolic modulator. An athlete might use it to assist in fat loss or use it as an endurance booster. WADA has warned athletes of health risks connected to the drug, which in early trials caused cancer in laboratory mice.

RICHARD LARTEY CLAIMS that his April 27 heavyweight opponent Daniel Dubois has been spoon fed a diet of mismatched opposition across his professional career to date.

The Ghanaian, 14-1, takes on the 10-0 Dubois at the SSE Arena, Wembley – live on BT Sport – and will attempt to halt the impressive rise of the 21-year-old Londoner, who has drawn comparisons in some quarters with the progression of Anthony Joshua at the same stage of the Olympic gold medallist’s career.

Dubois has already collected four belts in his ten fights so far – the WBC Youth, Southern Area, English and WBO European – and is already ranked in the world top 15 by the WBO.

His career path has done little to impress Lartey, whose only defeat came via injury-enforced retirement. The Accra-based heavy insists the race towards world title contention will be won by him.

WBC Heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder met with John Skipper of DAZN on Tuesday in effort to create a gateway for a showdown with Anthony Joshua, according to Dan Rafael of espn..com.

“We did (meet) but nothing was resolved and internally we are going to continue to talk about it and then we will get back to them, but it went well,” Wilder manager Shelly Finkel told ESPN.

“I will not characterize them all, or even confirm them,” Skipper said. “We have discussions with people and until we announce I rarely comment on them until we announce, so I don’t have anything to announce, so no comment other than we’re interested in having the best fights on DAZN and we will put the fights on that people want to see. It’s pretty clear that one fight people want to see is Joshua and Wilder.”

“I think we’ve got a brilliant chance of making the Joshua fight,” Joshua promoter Eddie Hearn said on Saturday night at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York, following the Dmitry Bivol-Joe Smith Jr. light heavyweight title bout he promoted.

DANIEL DUBOIS is set to fly to America after his next fight to spar with Anthony Joshua’s next opponent Jarrell Miller.

‘Big Baby’ Milller challenges IBF, WBA and WBO champion Joshua in June and has gone British in his quest for help in winning the fight.

Miller has been greatly impressed by Dubois (9-0) who faces Razvan Cojanu (16-5) at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Friday March 8, live on BT Sport and wants him in camp.

Dubois, 21, has won the WBC Youth, Southern Area and English titles since making his debut in April 2017 and being part of Miller’s camp will give him even more valuable experience.

Dubois’s trainer Martin Bowers said: “We have been chatting with Miller’s team for about three weeks and we’re trying to finalise everything right now.

“They would like Daniel in camp for about a month, but it may only be a couple of weeks because of Daniel’s commitments to BT Sport, his sponsors and perhaps a fight date.

“Daniel has already gone to Russia and sparred Alexander Povetkin. This will be another fantastic experience. We would go anywhere for top sparring.”

Anthony Joshua’s American debut on June 1 was formally announced this week, 55 years after the Beatles landed at JFK in February 1964 in what was the beginning of the first popular British Invasion.

Beatlemania followed in an early step toward unprecedented global celebrity. I’m not sure any kind of mania is awaiting Joshua, at least not against Jarrell Miller in a heavyweight title defense at Madison Square Garden. But prepare for promoters and advertisers to hype that inevitable parallel more often than a Beatles’ lyric.

Make no mistake, Joshua-Miller is an interesting fight. But in terms of pay-per-view numbers, it’s about as interesting as the Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury bout, a compelling draw last December that attracted a PPV audience of about 350,000.

Joshua-Miller might do better, if the Wilder-Fury rematch in fact happens on May 18. As of Thursday, the rematch for Wilder’s World Boxing Council belt was still being negotiated. It’s not clear how, if at all, the Joshua-Miller announcement affects ongoing talks. The sequel could serve as some solid advertising for Joshua-Miller, however.

I say could instead of would because there aren’t any guarantees about either bout. Wilder-Fury 2 is a pick-em fight. Controversy erupted when Wilder escaped with a draw because of two late knockdowns, one in the ninth and again in the 12th. Many in the Los Angeles Staples Center crowd and television audience thought Fury had done enough to win through the first eight rounds.

Let’s say that in mid-May the clever Fury figures out how to stay away from Wilder’s power and wins a decision many thought he should have had in December. So much for the American step in Joshua’s plan to go global. The only heavyweight known to casual fans in the American audience is Wilder. If there’s no chance at Wilder-Joshua, that crossover demographic won’t watch the DAZN live stream of Joshua-Miller on June 1.

Let’s say that Wilder’s power does land and this time it keeps Fury on the canvas. That’s a distinct possibility. Wilder is still unbeaten because of his singular power. At December’s weigh-in, he was surprisingly light at 214.75 pounds. At opening bell, he was even lighter at 209.4. For the six fights before Fury, Wilder’s weight bounced between 220 and 229. Add 10 to 15 pounds to his body and punching leverage. The result might add up to just enough power to finish Fury in the second go-round.

Then, it would be up to Joshua. He’s favored over Miller. The best guess is that Joshua’s uppercut lands and knocks out Miller, who is as fearless as he is talkative. The aggressive Miller likes to move forward, a tactic that will put him in range for a direct hit from Joshua’s best punch.

But Miller has also proven to be resilient. I watched him three years ago in a tough fight in Tucson against a Davenport, Iowa, heavyweight, Donovan Dennis. Dennis rocked Miller with power of his own in the fourth and fifth rounds. Miller was hurt. Yet he recovered, scoring a seventh-round stoppage. Miller showed he can take a heavyweight punch. Question is, can he take Joshua’s kind of power? If he can, Miller has a real chance — one I’m not sure Joshua foresees.

Joshua’s tone was almost apologetic in a video he posted on social media when the fight was announced Wednesday.

“The current state of the heavyweight division right now is full of boxing politics,’’ said Joshua, who is expected to collect a $24.3 million purse in his first business trip to the U.S. “But you know how it goes. I just roll along with the punches. You know I would have loved to fight at Wembley Stadium and brought you guys an undisputed championship of the world.’’

He was talking about Wilder. Everybody has been talking about Wilder-Joshua for the last couple of years. It’s hard to know who or what to believe about all the talk that has come and gone about the proposed fight. Remember when it was supposed to happen last April 13? Still, it’s the only heavyweight fight that matters for a worldwide audience.

If there is a deal for a Wilder-Fury rematch this spring, it’ll look as if there’s a plan in place for finally making the only heavyweight fight the world wants to see. Then again, Miller and/or Fury can do to that plan what Mike Tyson say happens to most of them when they get hit.

With yesterday’s announcement of the Joshua vs. Miller heavyweight championship fight to be held on June 1, Greg Cohen, co-promoter of challenger Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller, is happily giving his congratulations to Miller and his co-promoter, Dmitriy Salita, for securing the huge opportunity.

That Saturday night, the Brooklyn-born WBA #2- and WBO #3-rated Miller (23-0-1, 20 KOs) will face WBA Super, IBF, WBO and IBO World Heavyweight Champion Joshua (22-0, 21 KOs) in virtually Miller’s backyard of Madison Square Garden in New York. He has promised to tear up everyone put in front of him and then gone out and done it over and over. He’s a special fighter and a privilege to work with.”

Both Salita and Cohen are having career years as promoters. In addition to Miller, Salita Promotions handles the career of women’s superstar Claressa Shields and welterweight smashing machine Shoh Ergashev. Shields is scheduled for the biggest women’s boxing showdown in history against German fellow world champion Christina Hammer in April. Ergashev will be putting his fearsome power on display on ShoBox: The New Generation this weekend.

Cohen, meanwhile, continues to build on his reputation as a top-level scout of raw talent. Miller marks potentially the third time Greg Cohen Promotions has gotten in on the ground floor of an anonymous raw talent and brought them to a world championship. New Mexico-based former world champion Austin Trout and current WBA Middleweight Champion Rob Brant were also brought up through the ranks from out of nowhere by Cohen.

Brant will make the first defense of his world title this weekend in Minnesota with potentially huge super fights looming on the horizon should he win.

“GCP is an overnight 10-year success,” laughs Cohen. “We’ve had many setbacks and disappointments, but in the end it’s all been worth it to see truly dedicated and talented fighters like Jarrell and Rob make the most of their careers. I’m proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish.”

And getting Miller to the big fight is just the beginning, according to Cohen.

“Joshua and his people are thinking this is their man’s big debut in the US to help him gain popularity over here and generate interest in a future fight against Deontay Wilder. They think they’re just going to walk over him easily. That’s not what’s going to happen.”

According to Cohen, Joshua has the types of flaws that will make him an ex-champion against Miller.

“Anthony Joshua has not been the same since the Klitschko fight. You can reach him. He’s been fortunate enough to recover and win so far, but against Jarrell Miller, if he can touch you, he’s going to knock you out. Jarrell’s chin is made of iron. He’s going to still be there in the middle rounds when Joshua starts losing steam. And sooner or later, he’s going to hit Joshua like he’s never been hit before and it’s going to be all over. Americans will own the heavyweight division once again after June 1.”

Heavyweight boxing’s biggest star Anthony Joshua OBE will defend his WBA Super, IBF, WBO and IBO World titles against Jarrell Miller in his long-awaited U.S. debut at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday, June 1, live on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK and DAZN in the U.S.

Joshua (22-0, 21 KOs), defended his World titles with a devastating knockout of dangerous Russian Alexander Povetkin last time out at Wembley Stadium in September in what was the Olympic Champion’s fourth straight stadium fight in front of over 80,000 fans.

It was a crushing return to the scene of his historical triumph over legendary Champion Wladimir Klitschko in April 2017, where he produced the performance of a lifetime to claim the WBA crown in an unforgettable battle in front of a post war record crowd of 90,000 at England’s National Stadium.

The British sensation blasted Povetkin to the canvas with a brutal assault in the seventh round and then floored the WBA mandatory challenger again to signal a sudden and dramatic ending to his 22nd professional victory in his home city.

And now sport’s biggest name will follow in the footsteps of Heavyweight greats such as Joe Louis, Joe Frazier, Evander Holyfield and Muhammad Ali when he crosses the Atlantic to silence Brooklyn’s brash ‘Big Baby’ Miller at ‘The Mecca of Boxing’.

Miller (23-0-1, 20 KOs), has been calling for a British scalp ever since he went face-to-face with Joshua during a heated exchange at the launch of DAZN’s streaming service in the U.S. in July last year, and the undefeated 300lbs giant is promising to turn AJ’s American dream into a living nightmare as he looks to announce himself on the biggest stage of all.

Miller earned his shot at Joshua with successive wins over former World title challengers Gerald Washington, Mariusz Wach, Johann Duhaupas and Tomasz Adamek, crushing the latter inside two rounds on his Matchroom Boxing USA debut at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago in October.

He followed this up with another big stoppage win, this time steamrolling Bogdan Dinu in four rounds to claim the interim NABA Heavyweight title at the Kansas Star Arena, and now Miller returns to his home city to fulfil a lifelong dream of fighting for the World Heavyweight crown.

Matchroom Boxing has sent an offer to Jarrell Miller to take on Anthony Joshua in June at Madison Square Garden, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

Eddie has made an offer and we’ll see what happens,” Miller co-promoter Greg Cohen said. “Obviously, for every fighter, promoter and manager what’s better than fighting for the heavyweight championship of the world? We’ve been discussing it for a while but now we have an official offer.”

“There has been substantial movement on the money and we’re under a million dollars apart at his point,” said Cohen, who co-promotes Miller with Dmitry Salita.

“Fighting for the title against Joshua is everybody’s goal but the economics have to make sense,” Cohen said. “I’m hopeful we can get there. We’re not there yet. But everybody is negotiating in good faith. There has been progress, but we just have to see if we can get there. I certainly would love to see Jarrell fight for the title against Joshua. It’s Madison Square Garden. It would be in Jarrell’s hometown. What’s better than that?”

“It’s not just the economic we’re working out for this fight,” Cohen said. “There’s the rematch if Jarrell wins. When you’re an elective (defense) there are other components you have to deal with that you don’t have to deal with if you’re the mandatory. But if Joshua wants to come to America, and it’s unlikely he can get a fight with (titleholder) Deontay Wilder because it looks like he’s going to do the rematch with Tyson Fury, then I don’t think there’s another option for him other than Jarrell Miller. He’s the best option by far, especially if he’s going to fight in New York.”

“It’s either they’re going to go on April 13 at Wembley against Dillian Whyte or they’re making a deal with us for June in New York. That’s how I see it,” Cohen said. “They have the champion. I am sure Dillian Whyte has a price he’s willing to accept. If they want Jarrell they’ll go with him. We can sit back and see what happens.

“Jarrell can win this fight. There aren’t too many guys who can say that. Jarrell has always wanted this fight. He has a manager, two co-promoters and he is letting us do our job, but Jarrell wants this fight for sure. He says he’s going to smash him.”

Having landed in Sofia on Saturday evening, British boxers Hughie Fury and Savannah Marshall took in the sights and sounds of Plovdiv- some 150km away in Southern Bulgaria on Monday afternoon, as they took time out from their preparations for Saturday’s ‘Fire & Fury’ event, which is live at 9pm on free to air Channel 5.

British heavyweight champion Fury, 24, and women’s super-middleweight sensation Marshall, 27, visited the ancient city- the second largest city in Bulgaria, taking in some of the cultural landmarks that reflect more than 2,000 years of history including the Roman Antique Theatre, Saint Ludvik Cathedral, Alyosha Monument and the Plovdiv Roman stadium.

After visiting the famous landmarks, the British pair turned their attention to how they could make their own history on Saturday night.

Hughie Fury said: “Since we arrived here on Saturday we’ve had such a warm and friendly welcome from the people of Sofia. They’re genuinely excited about the fight on Saturday. I know the majority of the fans out here will be supporting Pulev but that doesn’t faze me. I’m just going to do my thing and show them what I’m all about.”

Savannah Marshall said: “Bulgaria is a beautiful place. I’d like to get out and see a little bit more but I can’t take anything for granted, my focus is 100% on taking down Yanina Orozco this Saturday night.”

Fury takes on Bulgarian native Kubrat Pulev in an IBF Heavyweight Final Eliminator at the Armeec Arena on October 27. Marshall will face Argentina’s Yanina Orozco in a 10-round bout on the undercard.

Saturday world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua once again filled a gigantic football stadium and successfully defended his multitude of titles by knocking silly a man one doubted any man might knock silly. This time it was former Olympic super heavyweight gold medalist Alexander Povetkin, possessed of both fists and chin. Joshua punched him till Povetkin’s trainer pleaded for mercy on the apron while the match’s referee tried to soften Povetkin’s second plunge to the blue mat.

Whatever happens next, let us pause and rejoice at a present good fortune so aptly illustrated through the pair of Povetkin challenges that just concluded. Before anyone scoffs or even dares consider it, he’s invited, first, to watch this fight, every last second of its 36 minutes, and see what Joshua so blessedly rid us of.

Have you forgotten how awful most Wladimir Klitschko title defenses were? I sure had. Then I took what happened Saturday and subjected my memories of it to what happened five years ago when Povetkin made his first title challenge. The aesthetical disaster of it, the frightfulness that made a man gargantuan as Klitschko fistfight in a way best classified as passive-aggressive: jab-jab-hook-bellyflop-armwrap-tackle | where’s the ref? | leapback-dolphinbreach-armwrap | where’s the ref? | jab-gloveswaddle-headtuck | where’s the ref?

We’re properly spoiled by Joshua if as aficionados we’re not genuflecting to him semiannually. He didn’t untitle Klitschko the way Tyson Fury did, by outwladding Wlad, but rather he made the temperamentally temperate titlist go man-to-man for once and beat him into retirement, beat him right, gave Klitschko a last stand more honorable than the sum of its 20 predecessor stands. And Klitschko thanked him for it in part because, as a 40-year-old man whose career began before YouTube, Klitschko hoped longsuffering fans long since driven to welterweight spectacles instead of his might recall of his legacy only the images of those final rounds in Wembley and the text of his resume.

But do notice how very little anyone misses the Brothers Klitschko, how fully this new era of heavyweights makes us forget the last era’s insipid sibling monopolists.

A brief recap why. Saturday the heavyweight champion of the world, in round 1, stood near enough and grappled little enough with a puncher who knew how to get his nose bloody bloodied and his equilibrium briefly beggared. No preceding quarterhour of guardslapping (what infamous 2008 tactic against Sultan Ibragimov got Wlad exiled a sevenyear from American arenas) – instead a man throwing hands with another man and letting come what might. Then a change in tactics that concerned punching, actual punching, a new target, a changed trajectory, but still punching, not fleeing, not landing the grand jeté, but punching a challenger who wanted to hurt the champ with every offering. And finally the finale, a gorgeous cross thrown at a man still plenty dangerous followed by a pursuit ferocious to a point near recklessness.

Joshua wanted to be tested in a way the heavyweight division’s previous princes never did. He justified once again his enormous following’s faith in him by competing and winning in entertaining a fashion as possible. Then he demonstrated an uncanny rapport with what 80,000 Brits braved the raw conditions of an outdoor arena where the skies drizzled them. He had a laugh at his promoter’s expense. He conceded a sense of the pressure so many folks’ reliance on him brings. He promised an April return. He named fellow titlist Deontay Wilder as his preferred opponent.

Not so fast, there, AJ. Whatever the oddsmakers say there’s good a chance as not a countryman of yours will wear the WBC belt in the new year, not Wilder. My, how fully we’ve forgot, on the evidence of a single showing a halfyear ago, how bad Wilder can be at boxing. And where Joshua should probably outclass the winner of Wilder-Fury nobody should be surprised if Fury outclasses Wilder, 11-1, in a soggydamp spectacle Americans in attendance do not forgive quickly.

There’s a mounting momentum that assumes Wilder deserves a win against Fury because of Fury’s apparent madness, and that’s not how our beloved sport works. Much as Wilder eschews traditional technique is how much Fury eschews traditional entertainment demands. Fury fights nothing like a man his size should, but his style is likely a full foil for Wilder’s. Everything that looked right about Saturday’s spectacle is what will look wrong in December.

Saturday’s challenger attacked, tried to take the champ’s crown by offing the head that bore it. And the champ replied with measure and mastery. Povetkin got in with clever aggression, throwing punches leveraged to devastate. He clipped Joshua with an uppercut-hook combo textbook as it was unexpected. He made an honest confrontation from the opening bell: I’m going to hit you hard as I can, and if that means you do the same to me I’m prepared for it. Before the match Joshua predicted a violent game of chess but it was blessedly more belligerent than that.

December, contrarily, will see a challenger actively endeavor to shame a champ from attacking him – making Wilder hate him so much before the opening bell Wilder hates the idea of failing to hurt Fury slightly more than he hates Fury. It’ll bring entertainment in both a different way and in the bizarre way only heavyweight prizefighters, among all athletes, can. Life’s greatest attestation to this may forever remain the number of German venues Wladimir Klitschko filled.
