April 23, 2024 – Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing proudly announces the signing of undefeated super bantamweight prospect Bryan “Latino” Acosta to an exclusive multi-year promotional contract.

Acosta (20-0, 8 KOs) is a skilled counterpuncher with a dazzling boxing skill. Hailing from the traditional boxing hotbed of Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico and raised in the U.S. until he was nine, the 25-year-old Acosta turned professional in 2016 and won his first title, the WBC Continental Americas Featherweight Championship with a tenth-round TKO over fellow Mexican Benito Sanchez Garcia in May of 2022.

Another significant victory for Acosta doesn’t appear on his official record because of the AIBA’s controversial history, however, earlier this month, he dropped and knocked out fellow prospect Alberto “Impacto” Melian of Argentina in the eighth round for their IBA American Championship.

“I knew that knocking out Melian would open doors for me and now I’m signing with Sampson. He will take me on the right path and get me the necessary fights to become world champion,” said Acosta. “I’m looking forward to continuing my march to the top, now with the right team at my side.”

Acosta’s trainer, Alfredo Caballero, says entrusting his fighter’s promising career to Sampson Boxing is a matter of faith.

After the success of the first Canadian boxing event presented on DAZN in May, Lee Baxter Promotions is back again to put on another fantastic event full with top quality talent and evenly matched fights

Headlining the event is Bryan Acosta (17-0 6KOs) as he arguably faces his toughest test to date as he takes on Jon Martinez (12-6-5 2KOs) from Bilbao, Spain. Acosta boxed for the WBC Continental Americas Featherweight title last time out, a spectacular stoppage in the 10th round saw Acosta crowned champion, live on DAZN. Acosta is a slick, skilful but ruthless opponent and would be a challenge for anyone in the division. Martinez is in fantastic form, as he is unbeaten in 6 fights and will look to use his experience to upset the younger prospect.

An undefeated show down between Josh Lupia (6-0 6KOs) and Jesus Solis Reyes (3-0) is co-main event on the night. A life threating incident caused Lupia to have a 2-year break from the ring, Lupia stayed mentally strong and dedicated to getting back in the ring again. Lupia returned to the ring in July with a dominant performance and another knockout. The 2x Canadian Amateur Champion has phenomenal power, as his 100% knockout rate shows.

A brilliant matchup that could go either way. As they say, someone’s 0 has got to go.

This fight is one for the fans as Uriel Perez (19-5 18KOs) battles it out with Edwing Davila (19-2 11KOs). Last time out Perez took on Maurice Hooker in a bout that was scheduled for 10 rounds. Since his fight with Hooker, Perez has been training at Hardknocks Boxing Club in Toronto with head coach Billy Martin, perfecting his craft. Perez already possesses lightning-fast hand speed, and his outrageous power speaks for itself as 18 of his 19 wins come by way of knockout. Edwing Davila also has 11 knockout wins on his record. Davila is a former challenger for the NABA, WBO Latino and WBA Inter-Continental titles. This match has potential for fight of the night as the two fighters put it all on the line for what looks to be a war that could go either way.

Adrian Bembridge (6-0 3KOs) will be kicking off the live broadcast on DAZN as he looks to continue his unbeaten streak. Bembridge has looked like an unstoppable force in the Super Welterweight division as he’s been dominating his opponents. Last time out Bembridge won with a first round KO, a monster left hook that could have caused heavyweights problems.

Probellum’s Spencer Wilcox (3-0 2KOs) will also be on the card, the 4x National Canadian Amateur Champion takes on Victor Cosmopulos Perez (5-5-1 2KOs) in a lightweight bout. Wilcox is exceptional talent from a true boxing family, with 4 brothers all boxing professionally.

Starting off the night will be Ruben Perez Vallejo (7-1-1 3KOs) scheduled for a 4-round match against Slovakia’s Kristian Patko (4-3-1 4KOs). Ruben has been training alongside brother Uriel Perez and stablemate Adrian Bembridge with Billy Martin as he prepares for the fight.

The event at REBEL Entertainment Complex, Toronto will be the start of an iconic weekend of boxing on DAZN as Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin go head-to-head for the third time. The event falls on Mexican Independence weekend, a historic and important part of Mexican culture and tradition as Mexico gained independence from Spain. In recent years it has also been celebrated with Mexican athletes boxing on Independence weekend. In the past we have seen many historic events and we are set to see two more this year.

Bryan Acosta remained undefeated with a 10th round stoppage over Benito Sanchez Garcia in a featherweight bout at Rebel Entertainment Complex in Toronto, Canada.

In round one, Acosta dropped Garcia with a left hook.

Acosta dominated the action until a relentless flurry of action forced a referee stoppage at 1:37.

Acosta of Mexico is 17-0 with six knockouts. Garcia of Jalisco, MEX is 16-6-2.

Reeves Decisions Maldonado

Lee Reeves won an eight-round unanimous decision over Sebastian Diaz Maldonado in a junior welterweight bout.

Reeves, 140 lbs of Limerick, IRE won by scores of 80-72 and is now 9-1. Maldonado, 139 lbs of Aguas Calliente, MEX is 17-5-1.

Wilcox Decisions Martinez

Steven Wilcox won an six-round unanimous decision over Miguel Angel Martinez in a welterweight bout.

Wilcox, 142 lbs of Hamilton, ONT, CAN won by scores of 60-54 twice and 58-56 and is now 23-3-1. Martinez, 147 lbs of Jalisco, MEX is 15-5-1.

Zawadi stops Medina in 2

Mohammad Zawadi stopped Diego Paredes Medina in round two of their four-round light heavyweight bout.

At the end of round one, Zawadi dropped Medina with a left hook that was followed up by a combination. In round two, Zawai uncorked an overhand right that landed square on the head that put Medina down again. Medina followed that up with a big flurry that put Medina down for a third time, and the fight was stopped at 1:41.

Zawadi, 179 lbs of Barrie, ONT, CAN is 3-1 with three knockouts, Medina, 177 lbs of Culican, MEX is 2-2.

TORONTO, ON—After 15 straight victories in his native Mexico, it’s clear that Bryan Acosta is ready to break out.

One of the most promising featherweight prospects in the world, Acosta has made the leap out of his home country and has signed with top Canadian promotion company Lee Baxter Promotions.

Acosta (15-0, 5 KOs) is the latest talent to come out of the boxing hotbed of Sonora, following in the footsteps of Julio Cesar Chavez, Jose Luis Castillo, Orlando Salido and Juan Francisco Estrada. The 23-year old combines the rugged aggression typically associated with boxers from his area with a dazzling boxing ability that has enabled him to climb up the ranks at a rapid pace.

Now, Acosta is ready to break into the world ranks in earnest, and has linked up with Baxter in order to make it happen.

“I am very excited and motivated by this new stage in my career,” said Acosta. “I’m happy to know that fans in Canada will be able to witness my rise to a world championship.”

Acosta is coming off an impressive victory over Diego Chavez in April of 2021, a wide unanimous decision win. He also enjoyed tremendous exposure recently, fighting on the undercard of an exhibition bout between Julio Cesar Chavez and Jorge Arce.

In the ring, Acosta borrows influence from fighters like Chavez and Arce, as well as counterpunchers like Estrada.

“My fighting style is a clean, counterpunching style, a clean style where I seek to connect on the best punches and avoid being hit at the same time. My main virtue is my defense, but like all Mexicans, I love to get into the pocket and give the fans what they want to see,” said Acosta.

Acosta is expected to make his Canadian debut under the Lee Baxter banner on March 13 against an opponent to be named shortly. The plan, according to Baxter, is to try to maneuver him towards a world title within the next 18 months.

“Bryan probably has the talent to fight for a world title today, but he’s still 23 years old, and we would rather get him experience against different types of opponents and get him used to fighting away from home before throwing him in the deep end,” said Baxter. “He has a long career ahead of him, and we believe he’s one of the best untapped talents under 130 pounds anywhere in the world. We’re extremely lucky to have him on the roster, and Canadian fans are going to be in for a hell of a show when he’s in the ring.”

Acosta is climbing the ladder in a division topped by many of his fellow countrymen, including Emanuel Navarrete, Leo Santa Cruz, Mauricio Lara and Rey Vargas. According to BoxRec’s computerized rankings, Acosta sits just behind Julio Ceja, the recent world title challenger, in terms of Mexican featherweights.

“By 2023, Bryan is going to be matching up with those big names, and with the fanbase we know he’s going to develop here in Canada, those will be fights that won’t just sell in Mexico, they’ll sell here in Canada,” said Baxter.
