Usyk Stops DuBois in 9; Defends Unified Heavyweight Titles

Oleksandr Usyk defended the IBF/WBA/WBO Heavyweight titles with a ninth round stoppage over Daniel DuBois in Wroclaw, Poland.

The fight was tactical early with both guys holding back a little. In round five, DuBois landed a right hand on the belt that sent Usyk to the canvas. Referee Luis Pabon ruled that the fight was below the belt and gave Usyk several (extra) minutes to recuperate.

That proved to be pivotal as it allowed Usyk to regroup and begin to dominate at the fight. In round eight, Usyk floored DuBois with a combination to the head. Usyk had total control of the bout, and then landed a short right hook to the head that put DuBois down for a second time. Dubois looked at Pabon as he counted to 10 and the bout was over.

Usyk of Ukraine is now 21-0 with 14 knockouts. DuBois of England is 19-2.

Usyk to fight Dubois, but Fury is on his mind

By Norm Frauenheim

Oleksandr Usyk is going into a fight against Daniel Dubois while talking about Tyson Fury.

If that sounds confusing, it is.

Then again, this is the heavyweight division, often as exasperating as it is entertaining.

“I need him,’’ Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs) said of Fury in an interview with the BBC just a week before risking his heavyweight titles against Dubois (19-1, 18 KOs) Saturday (ESPN+, 5 pm ET/2 pm PT) in Wroclaw Poland, not far from Usyk’s war-torn home in the Ukraine.

Usyk is right, of course. No showdown with Fury leaves Usyk with an incomplete resume. At 36, there’s not much time left for Usyk to punctuate his career with the fight that could define a legacy. He wants to be remembered.

“People will talk about our fight for 20, 30, 40 years,’’ he said. “We need to fight.’’

The division, boxing’s old flagship, needs them to fight, too. But the inability to put together a deal is a many-layered sign that the unpredictable Fury just isn’t interested. He’s been there before. He came roaring back with a memorable trilogy against Deontay Wilder. The third fight was wild, a violent five-knockdown epic a couple of years ago.

Then, it was a celebration of what the heavyweight division was.

And still can be.

The inherent power was there. So, too, was the danger, the risk to both Fury, the winner, and to Wilder, the loser left on the canvas in an exhausted, broken heap midway through the eleventh. Loser and winner, each paid in ways still impossible to imagine.

Since then, Wilder has fought once, scoring a quick KO of Robert Helenius Now, he says he’s in talks with Anthony Joshua, who seems to be in a perpetual search to re-discover the guy who retired Wladimir Klitschko in April 2017.

Fury has fought twice, first scoring a sixth-round stoppage of Dillian Whyte and then a 10th-round TKO of Derek Chisora. Both were as predictable as they were forgettable.

Now, Fury, still the World Boxing Council’s champion, has an off-beat bout scheduled with MMA power striker Francis Ngannou on October 28 in Saudi Arabia. Ngannou will have Mike Tyson in his corner. But none of Evander Holyfield’s skill will be there.

For Fury, it’s another chance at some sports-wash money. It’s also a way to avoid another bout that would likely include a further toll, a physical price hard to calculate. Fury has said he suffered a couple of concussions against Wilder. Fury, of course, says a lot of things. He’s a lousy-lounge act. But the concussions are believable. Fury-Wilder 3 was a concussive fight for both.

Usyk, the best cruiserweight champion ever, is an undersized heavyweight, especially by today’s NBA-like standards. But his skillset is comprehensive and disciplined. The mindset is a mix, both fearless and clever. Combine skill and mind, and Usyk represents a real test of what’s left of Fury.

It’s not clear Fury wants to take that kind of risk anymore. He’s talked retirement. He even insisted that he was retired in 2022. That lasted for a few weeks. It was funny, but it also suggests he’s not sure whether he still wants to fight.

In part, that might explain why Usyk and Fury couldn’t agree to a 50-50 purse split for a fight in London. Usyk has three of the belts; Fury has one. Fifty-fifty sounds fair. But Fury reportedly demanded the lion’s share. When he didn’t get it, he cracked jokes, insults and then scheduled one of those awkward MMA-boxer bouts for money big enough to be a Phil Mickelson wager.

Usyk promoter Alexander Krassyuk told Boxing Social he will continue to pursue a fight with Fury. That, of course, hinges on an expected Usyk victory over Dubois. Usyk was at 220.9 pounds and Dubois at 233.2 at Friday’s weigh-in.

Krassyuk is confident the money will be there, probably in Saudi Arabia. But Fury’s willingness to risk belts, body and brain once more?

“That’s the only thing pending,’’ Krassyuk said. “If he’s ready, then he’s ready.

“If he’s not, then there’s nothing we can do about it and no money in the world can buy his consent.”

FILIP HRGOVIC TO BE RINGSIDE AT USYK VS DUBOIS AFTER SECURING IBF POSITION

Filip Hrgovic plans to be at ringside in Poland to watch Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois fight for the world title after cementing his position as the mandatory challenger for the IBF belt.

El Animal stopped Demsey McKean in the 12th round on Saturday night, at the 02 Arena in London to confirm that he will be next in line for a shot at the winner of Usyk and Dubois.

Croatian hero Hrgovic moved to 16-0 with his thudding TKO of the brave McKean and instantly turned his attention to his shot at the IBF world title.

The 31-year-old says he will attend Usyk vs Dubois on August 26 and hopes the winner “follows the rules” and fights him next.

Hrgovic said: “I hope it happens, I should fight Usyk next, I deserve that.

“I will go there to watch that fight from ringside. I see Usyk as the big favourite to win that fight because he is quicker and he is a really good fighter, but Dubois is a good puncher, a big guy with a straight right hand, so you never know.

“My message is: follow the rules and the winner should fight me next.”

Hrgovic had to bide his time against a tough McKean but after landing a heavy right hook in the final round, the referee stepped in at 1:01 to call the contest off.

Hrgovic added: “I am satisfied and the fact that he held a lot, that made the fight a little bit ugly. The referee should have given him at least one point deduction. He was holding too much, but he’s a good fighter, brave and was really well prepared. But I was controlling the fight and was winning most of the rounds.

“I thought I was going to knock him out in the first six rounds but he did very well. He’s a decent fighter. I was surprised that he took some good shots and kept coming and throwing punches.”

Usyk-Dubois goes to purse bid

The World Boxing Association (WBA) ordered the called the Purse bid between heavyweight super champion Oleksandr Usyk and his mandatory challenger Daniel Dubois, which will take place on May 25 in Houston, Texas.

The bout is part of the pioneering body’s World Championship Reduction Plan and pits the super champion against the champion to define a single monarch in the category.

The Championships Committee sent the communication to the parties this Monday, May 15, with all the details of the bidding. The minimum amount to obtain the rights to the fight will be 1,000,000.00 while the distribution will be 75% for Usyk and 25% for Dubois.

The fight between Usyk and Dubois had been ordered since last December 12, but in the process a period of time was granted for Usyk to negotiate the unification fight with Tyson Fury; however, that fight could not be agreed due to differences between the teams.

Dubois suffered the knee injury in his most recent fight on December 3 against Kevin Larena. Despite winning the fight, he left the bout injured and with difficulty to walk.

The WBA sent a request for a health report to Dubois and his team, which was received on March 30. The report, signed by London-based physician James Witthicase, says Dubois is ready to do any physical activity, run, carry weight and feels no pain in his knee.

The deadline to negotiate expired last May 2, so the committee decided to send the fight to purse bid under all the statutes of the body.

“I WANT WILDER, WHYTE OR DUBOIS!”  BAKOLE CALLS FOR BIG NAME BATTLES AFTER HAMMERING HULK IN POLAND

RZESZOW, POLAND  (Saturday, April 22) – After hammering ‘The Hulk’ in less than two rounds and handing the previously-undefeated Ukrainian heavyweight his first stoppage loss, Martin Bakole (19-1, 14 KO’s)  called out some of the division’s biggest names to face him in the ring next.

Making his official BOXXER debut, Bakole stopped the previously undefeated ‘Ukrainian Hulk’ Ihor Shevadzutsky (10-1, 8 KO’s) at 0:45 of the second round, demonstrating exactly why he is the most avoided heavyweight on the planet.

Originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bakole is a son of the hereditary ruler of the Kananga province and brother of former WBC world cruiserweight champion Ilunga Makabu, who is next in line for throne.

For the last four years he has been based in Ayrshire, where he trains under the stewardship of Billy Nelson, hence his nickname ‘The Next King of Scotland’. In keeping with his royal heritage, Bakole has his eyes on the heavyweight crown and wants a huge heavyweight showdown to be his next step towards that.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Bakole said: “I want Dillian Whyte, Daniel Dubois, Oleksandr Usyk. Why not? I call people out because I know I can stop them! I made a big statement tonight. I was the first guy to stop [Hulk]. This guy has never been stopped before, I was the first to stop him.”

BOXXER Founder and CEO, Ben Shalom added: “Everyone in boxing knows how good this guy is and now we need to make sure he gets to mandatory so that people can’t keep avoiding him. He’s ready for the big fights and for me Deontay Wilder is the fight he should be getting next.

“If Usyk is facing Dubois next then the thing that makes sense according to the WBA rankings I think would be Bakole against Deontay Wilder. and we’re also interested in Dillian Whyte or Daniel Dubois.”

There was another impressive heavyweight performance in the shape of rising star Jeamie TKV (5-0, 3 KO’s).

Making light work of Polish native Michal Boloz (now 5-5, 2 KO’s), the London fighter scored the third knockout win of his young professional career to take his record to five wins from five fights, with three of those wins by knockout.

Body shots were the key to victory, a rare sight in the professional heavyweight ranks, with TKV digging for gold repeatedly in Boloz’s midriff before finally folding him in half and sending him through the ring ropes during the fight-ending sequence.

“I started a bit slow, he had weight behind his punches so I needed to be smart. I knew if I caught him in the body nicely, he was going to go,” TKV told Sky Sports reporter Andy Scott at ringside post-fight.

“I’ve got more to show, more to come. I want more fights, more experience. I hope the guys at home enjoyed that knockout.”

In the main event, presented in association with Knockout Promotions, hometown hero Lukasz Rozanski (15-0, 14 KO’s) made short work of Croatian wildman Alen ‘The Savage’ Babic (11-1, 10 KO’s) to claim the inaugural WBC World Bridgerweight Championship in front of a partisan crowd in the sold-out G2A Arena.

This was never going to go the distance – both fighters are gunslingers who favour all-out aggression and eschew defence – but the first-round finish was still surprising in its ferocity.

Rozanski found his mark first and Babic never fully recovered, being put on the back foot almost instantly and suffering a storm of heavy leather which did not relent until the referee waved the fight off at 2.10 of the second round.

Earlier in the evening, Birmingham’s Steed Woodall (18-1-1-, 11 KO’s) survived a brief wobble late in the fight to take a unanimous decision over Boris Crighton (11-3, 7 KO’s) in a bout which was closely fought for all of its eight rounds.

This event was presented in association with official partners Everlast and Wow Hydrate.

BIG HITTERS IN SEARCH OF BIG OPPORTUNITIES AT BOXXER POLAND THIS SATURDAY NIGHT

RZESZÓW, POLAND – (April 20, 2023) – Some of the biggest hitters in the BOXXER stable were on deck in Poland today for open workouts ahead of this Saturday night’s event at the G2A Arena in the historic city of Rzeszów, live on Sky Sports.

Big opportunities await the winners, with Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois on the radar for Bakole and Richard Riakporhe on the radar for Babic.

With a history of strategic importance stretching back to the mediaeval era and beyond, Rzeszów has witnessed many a major battle during its long history and at the weekend will witness several more as BOXXER makes its first visit to Poland in association with regional partners Knockout Promotions.

The WBC World Bridgerweight Championship is on the line in the main event when Croatian wildman Alen ‘The Savage’ Babic (11-0, 10 KO’s) steps up to face Polish counterpart ?ukasz Ró?a?ski (14-0, 13 KO’s) in what is sure to be an incredible firefight – for as long as it lasts.

With a combined record of 23 knockouts from 25 wins, both fighters have a deserved reputation for finishing fights early and throwing caution to the wind in pursuit of a crowd-pleasing conclusion.

The winner will become the inaugural WBC Bridgerweight Champion and reign over a newly-created division named in honour of American schoolboy Bridger Walker, who survived severe damage while protecting his 4-year-old sister from a wild dog attack.

Created by the WBC to “bridge” the gap between cruiserweight and heavyweight, the holder of the division’s championship will open himself up to opportunities in both of those weight classes.

BOXXER CEO Ben Shalom sees potential opportunities for Babic against the likes of Richard Riakporhe, Frazer Clarke and even Lawrence Okolie – if he wins on Saturday night.

“It’s a tough fight for Babic against a home fighter but he’s a huge fan favourite that brings numbers, so if he can win this belt then that’s going to open up big opportunities for him. Holding a WBC belt opens doors for you and I think he’ll have cruiserweights and heavyweights looking for him,” he says.

“Richard Riakporhe is interested in him. Frazer Clarke, Fabio Wardley and even Lawrence Okolie could all be possible. So let’s see what happens Saturday. Whichever way it goes, it’s going to be a war and someone is getting knocked out without a doubt. I expect it to be crazy.”

Saturday night also marks the BOXXER debut of newly-signed heavyweight contender Martin Bakole (18-1 13 KO’s), who has been in the headlines recently after being linked with potential marquee showdowns against Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois.

First though he must face Ukrainian slugger Igor ‘Hulk’ Shevadzutskiy (10-0 8 KO’s), who is fighting just a few miles from the Ukrainian border and looking to take out a big name and open up opportunities of his own.

“If [Dubois’] fight against Usyk is not happening, after Saturday’s fight the only person I will call out is Daniel Dubois because he’s got the belt. I want to be No 1 for Usyk or anybody,” says Bakole.

“He’s No 1 regular in the WBA and I’m No 2 ranking so that is an easy fight to make so we don’t need to talk too much.

“People are avoiding me now, I have been calling them out, mentioning everybody and nobody has mentioned me or responded. I’ll work hard to be No 1 challenger, so no more avoiding.”

Shalom said, “He’s got to make a statement Saturday night, put him away in six rounds or less then look to see what happens with Usyk, Dubois, Joyce or Zhang. He also wants the Dillian Whyte fight, he wants the Anthony Joshua fight… he’s ready to go!”

World’s Greatest Promoter Don King Has Never NOT Paid a Fighter & This Is Certainly Not the Case with Daniel Dubois

DEERFIELD BEACH, FL (August 3, 2022)—Don’t let the facts get in the way of a good story.

That’s certainly the case for WBA Heavyweight Champion, Daniel Dubois, after winning the title on a Don King promoted show on June 11, 2022 in Miami.

DuBois and his promoter and manager, Frank Warren, who was not allowed to enter the United States, need to get together and renew acquaintances.

Promoter King has requested banking and wire information from Warren for two months with no reply.

So King’s lawyer, Tony Gonzalez, put the funds in escrow waiting for Warren to respond.  DuBois’ lawyer Leon Margules finally sent the wire instructions after Warren and Queensberry Promotions failed to reply to Don King Promotions multiple requests for wire instructions.

Warren and his promotional company, Queensberry Promotions, had the television rights payment for BT Sports deducted from the purse, per the agreement.

King has already paid DuBois’ foreign taxes to the IRS of $420,660.12.

“I have talked with DuBois and his father about the matter,” said King.  “I’ve told them the money was in escrow and waiting for DuBois’ promoter and manager, Frank Warren, the wiring instructions.

Did Frank lose my number?  He knows where to reach me.”

“I love Frank Warren.  His word, honor and integrity have been above and beyond any contract or agreement with me.  His word has been his bond…Impeccable!  I am deeply hurt and terribly disappointed in what is happening now.

“I’ve never not paid a fighter and this is certainly not the case here.”

King’s lawyer Gonzalez stated, ““DKP has made all requisite payments towards Mr. Dubois’ purse.

“Pursuant to Florida State Athletic Commission Director Patrick Cunningham’s instructions, proof of payment in the form of the payment for the 30% IRS backup withholding was provided along with $475,000 setoff towards Mr. Dubois’ purse at the instruction of Mr. Dubois’ promoter, Queensbury.”

“Additionally, and at the instruction of Mr. Cunningham, an escrow deposit was made in the amount of $134,000.00 representing a final balance due Mr. Dubois after applying a setoff of $319,000 for outstanding monies owed DKP by Mr. Warren. Also, all sanction fees owed by Mr. Dubois were paid in full to the WBA.”

NEW WBA CHAMP DUBOIS BACK IN BLIGHTY

DANIEL DUBOIS IS back in the UK after his successful Stateside mission to take the WBA world championship belt from the champion Trevor Bryan and he now has a couple of big domestic targets firmly in his sights.

The 24-year-old, along with his promoter Frank Warren, called into the Talksport studios to reflect on his title-winning exploits before heading off for a celebratory meal where future plans were due to be mapped out.

Dubois conceded that he had installed himself as heavy favourite against Bryan before a blow was even landed and he views his triumph as a gateway towards some huge collisions, not least the winner of the forthcoming Oleksandr Usyk-Anthony Joshua rematch.

His newly-won WBA champion status will see to that he will be called upon to fight the unified champion when his mandatory turn comes around and Dubois insists he is more than ready to take the plunge into the elite heavyweight pool.

“I heard a lot of people say it and even though I thought it was a foregone conclusion I would win the fight, that fight was very big,” considered the winner of 11 championship belts as a professional. “It has set up a whole load of other matches down the line that are going to happen.

“This is what we are in this sport for, along with my dad and everyone who has been behind me from the beginning, this is what I’ve been pushing for. Now it is ahead of me, these big challenges are going to come,” he added, before being questioned on whether a fight with Usyk or Joshua appeals.

“Oh yeah, I am ready for the winner, line them up! I am waiting for this moment, I would prefer it to be Joshua, but whoever it is, it is the big league.

“I want to get a few more fights under my belt, with that belt, and defend it to really make my mark and leave a legacy as a champion.”

Frank Warren then threw the name of Dillian Whyte into the mix for a potential defence of his new belt and it was a suggestion that found favour with his young heavyweight star.

“That’s the fight. This is all business, there is no disrespect to anyone but I am coming to clean up and take out whoever is in my way.”

Full Daniel Dubois quotes from the interview with Jim White and Simon Jordan on Talksport:

“Well I said ‘by any means necessary’ before the fight and we did that. We took the belt home on the plane and my dad and my sister made a lot of noise out there, along with the team, and it was powerful and I loved every moment of it.

“The left hook came out of nowhere that one, I didn’t even know it and he never saw it, for sure!

“I heard a lot of people say it and even though I thought it was a foregone conclusion I would win the fight, that fight was very big. It has set up a whole load of other matches down the line that are going to happen.

“This is what we are in this sport for, along with my dad and everyone who has been behind me from the beginning, this is what I’ve been pushing for. Now it is ahead of me, these big challenges are going to come.

“Oh yeah, I am ready for the winner, line them up! I am waiting for this moment, I would prefer it to be Joshua, but whoever it is, it is the big league.

“I want to get a few more fights under my belt, with that belt, and defend it to really make my mark and leave a legacy as a champion.

“That’s the fight. This is all business, there is no disrespect to anyone but I am coming to clean up and take out whoever is in my way.”

“Hey, listen. This is who I am. This is Trevor Bryan. You see this face right here? I’ve been here for a long time, and I’m going to be here for a long time. First of all, I want to thank you guys as well for coming all this way to get this a** whooping. Don King, thank you, brother for setting all of this up.”

“Let me just say a couple more things. See my face again: this is Trevor Bryan, the undefeated WBA heavyweight champion. This fight is called the ‘Fight for Freedom and Peace,’ but before you have freedom and peace, you’ve got to have war, and war’s what you’re going to have on June 11. It’s going to be a war.”

“I’m nobody, you’re just going to walk through me, right? That’s not what’s going to happen. I hope that you’re ready because I’m telling you right now: this is going to be a hard night for you. You’re not going home across the pond with the belt.”

DANIEL DUBOIS (17-1, 16 KOS), NO. 1 HEAVYWEIGHT CONTENDER

“I’m going to tell you what time it is. I hear what he’s talking about, but I’m going to bring this belt home. On Saturday, I hear him, but I don’t think I came all this far for nothing. It’s been my lifelong dream to be a champion, so I’m going to keep the belt.”

ISAIAH THOMPSON (6-1-1, 5 KOS), CRUISERWEIGHT CONTENDER

“My name’s Isaiah ‘Night Night’ Thompson. Yes, I’m going to be the challenger. I don’t really have too much to say, I’m just going to go out there and show it.”

DUBOIS AND BRYAN “READY TO RUMBLE” IN MIAMI

DANIEL DUBOIS CAME face to face with WBA heavyweight champion Trevor Bryan this afternoon ahead of their big title collision in Florida on Saturday, live on BT Sport.

Veteran promoter Don King led proceedings in his own inimitable fashion, explaining that the title of the show, ‘The fight for freedom and peace’, is in honour of the people of Ukraine.

“This is the final press conference before the rumble on Saturday night,” said the 90-year-old fight maker. “I am very pleased and honoured to have this press conference with all these great fighters and it is going to be a super event.

“The Fight for Freedom and Peace is dedicated this time to the brave and courageous people of Ukraine, that Russia has decided to invade and declare war because of a bruised ego. It is a family feud that has turned into a tragedy.

“I got a call last night to say bombing had started in Kiev because the Klitschko brothers were going to try and be here to further their cause and fight for freedom, independence, peace and sovereignty they want.

“Now, with Francis (Warren) sitting to my left, the British are coming, the British are coming! I read in a column that the eloquent and distinguished Dubois said ‘I’m gonna devastate Trevor Bryan for making me wait so long’.

“Trevor wants to fight every day and twice on Saturdays. I am just delighted now we are going to have a real good time, whoever wins.”

“I am ready to rumble,” said Dubois when he took to the podium. “I am out here to make myself, my family and my country proud. This is what I’ve been waiting for and I can’t wait. I am going to go through Trevor and take that belt back with me on the plane.”

Representing Queensberry, Francis Warren added: “I just want to say it is a pleasure to be here in Miami with Daniel and the team and I big thank you to Don and all his great staff for making us feel so welcome and putting on a great event.

“Daniel has been waiting for this a long time and we respect Trevor tremendously as a world champion but Daniel is here to do the business and we are fully confident we will be going home with the new WBA world champion.”

Champion Bryan talked of the lack of recognition he has received as the WBA title holder, something he intends to change against Dubois at Casino Miami on Saturday night.

“Listen, this is who I am, I’m Trevor Bryan. See this face right here? I’ve been here for a long time and I’m gonna be here for a long time. I want to thank you guys for coming over the pond to get this ass-whipping.

“Let me just say again, you know who Trevor Bryan is. I am the WBA heavyweight champion and I’m here to stay. This fight is called freedom and peace, but before you have freedom and peace you gotta have war.

“That is what we’re gonna have on June 11. The guy thinks I’m nothing, I’m 22-0 and he’s just gonna walk through me, right? That’s not what’s gonna happen, I’m telling you right now.

“I’m Trevor Bryan, the Dream, and I’m gonna be this guy’s nightmare.”

BRYAN POSTS DUBOIS WARNING

WBA HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION Trevor Bryan has labelled his forthcoming opponent Daniel Dubois as a quitter who will be out of his depth when he challenges for the title on June 11 over in Florida.

The unbeaten Bryan, however, does acknowledge the threat posed by the young knockout artist Dubois and admits it presents a significant threat to his 22-fight professional winning streak.

Trevor Bryan was talking to Dev Sahni for the Unibet Lowdown, click here to watch the full interview on YouTube.

“I fight like every fight is my last fight,” the New Yorker told Dev Sahni on the Unibet Lowdown. “I am gonna give my heart, my soul and every inch, every bit of strength I have in this coming up fight on June 11 because, even with the heavyweights, this career doesn’t last long. Every opportunity I do get with names like Daniel Dubois and fighters after this, you want to fight your hardest and show everybody you have the heart and show everybody your skills are going to carry you along.

“So yeah, I am treating this like it is my last fight,” added the 32-year-old, before making reference to Dubois’ sole professional setback against Joe Joyce at the end of 2020.

“Daniel Dubois is a strong fighter, he has fought some good guys, but I am on a different level. You saw that when he came up against some good opposition, he quit, gave up.

“You don’t quit, you don’t give up. I would rather go out on my shield. He is an okay guy but he is going in against a nightmare, I will be a nightmare for him and not the fight that he wants. Maybe he should have went back and tried to reverse the loss he had against Joe Joyce before he came to the champion.

“Now that he’s said he wants the champion, he begged for this fight and now he has it. He has it and now he has to pay for it. I’m not the type of fighter where you can step in the ring and think you can walk all over me. I am not heavyweight champ for no reason and on June 11 I’m gonna show everybody that I am a name that you are supposed to respect.

“I am that man who is going to be sticking around for a long time in this sport. I am taking over, so on June 11 you guys are going to see what Trevor Bryan, The Dream, is all about.”

Trevor Bryan v Daniel Dubois on June 11 for the WBA heavyweight championship will be shown live on BT Sport immediately after the Queensberry show from Telford earlier in the evening.

DUBOIS READY TO MAKE BRYAN PAY FOR DELAY

DANIEL DUBOIS IS ready to exert punishment on Trevor Bryan for keeping him waiting for his world title shot.

Dubois goes in with the American champion on June 11 with the WBA world heavyweight championship at stake, fighting for the ultimate right to take on the super champion, which is currently Oleksandr Usyk.

The 24-year-old Dubois has been out of action since August of last year when he fought Joe Cusumano in Cleveland that resulted in a first round stoppage. A vaccination issue prevented him returning to the States to fight again in December and, since this time, taking another fight would have jeopardised his mandatory rights with the WBA.

Bryan was also granted a voluntary defence of his title against Jonathan Guidry in January, which delayed the ambitions of the 17-1 Londoner and left him hard at work in the gym.

Daniel Dubois was talking to Dev Sahni for the Unibet Lowdown. Click to watch full interview.

“It is about time and I have been waiting patiently for a while,” said the former WBA Interim champion, a belt he won by defeating Bogdan Dinu in June last year. “It has been frustrating so I am glad to get it on, finally.

“I will definitely take it out on him with controlled aggression, that’s what works. I want to go in there to put on a boxing display and make a statement. I have been training pretty much non-stop, I have been in the gym and the other guys have been having fights and I have just been working away, but now it is on and I can’t wait to go out there and show what I am about.”

Dubois insists he carries a much wiser head on his shoulders these days and is an improved version of himself since his only setback against home rival Joe Joyce in 2020. His sparring partner for that fight, unbeaten American heavy Jeremiah Milton, is back in London again and has detected a difference during their sessions of friendly fire.

“Of course, I am getting older and age brings maturity and experience,” reasoned Dubois, who turned professional at the age of 19. “I’ve just got to learn from my mistakes. I’ve got all the experience needed to succeed now and it is up to me to apply it, be myself and go out there and just devastate him.

“We’ve been working on a few key things we’re going to use in the fight and it is all a work in progress. We’ve got a gameplan in mind but it is just about feeling it, really feeling it and I’m gonna get in there and make sure I’m on it this time.”

Working away from home, Dubois adds, is something that excites him, as does fighting on a show promoted by the 90-year-old Don King. Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Larry Holmes and Mike Tyson are numbered amongst the heavyweight kings promoted by King.

“No pressure, it is in Miami and that is the place to be. I can’t wait to get out there and put on a show. I am not at all fazed by being the away or home fighter, I am just going to take this opportunity with both hands.

“Those names get you buzzing, you hear them and think ‘this guy is ancient and a legend of the game’. Now we are doing business with him, it’s amazing. It is the way this world works.”

Trevor Bryan v Daniel Dubois on June 11 for the WBA heavyweight championship will be shown live on BT Sport.

I love Frank Warren… Frank is a great promoter, but more importantly, Frank, like me, BELIEVES THAT OUR WORD AND INTEGRITY IS OUR BOND.  THAT OUR WORD AND INTEGRITY ARE MORE IMPORTANT (TO OUR MANHOOD) THAN A CONTRACT.  That is why, Frank safely took the liberty of PRE-ANNOUNCING BT SPORTS TV’S BROADCASTING OF THE WBA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE FIGHT, TREVOR BRYAN VS DANIEL DUBOIS WITHOUT A SIGNED CONTRACT, WITHOUT FEAR OR APPREHENSION.

I am deeply honored and very proud to have worked together with Frank over the years, and to have worked together on some of the great promotions… HISTORY MAKING PROMOTIONS.  Then, to be his friend who have helped him, with love, tolerance, and veracity.  And then, watched him to grow and develop into A GREAT PROMOTER OF THE PEOPLE, WHO KEEPS HIS WORD.

JUNE 11 DOUBLE LIVE ON BT SPORT

DANIEL DUBOIS WILL challenge Trevor Bryan for the WBA regular world title on June 11 in Miami and you can catch the heavyweight action, along with a British title double-header from Telford on the same night, all on BT Sport.

WBA No.1 ranked Dubois (17-1, 16 KOs) heads Stateside for his breakthrough fight against the unbeaten New Yorker Bryan (22-0, 15 KOs), with the pair set to fight for the right to be made mandatory to the full WBA champion Oleksandr Usyk, depending on the outcome of his forthcoming rematch against Anthony Joshua.

Bryan, 32, won his belt via an 11th round stoppage of Bermane Stiverne and has navigated a single defence against Jonathan Guidry, last time out in January, with success coming via a split decision on the cards.

Dubois, just 24, will be having his second fight across the Atlantic after introducing himself to the American market with a typical first round stoppage of Joe Cusumano last August. He previously won the WBA Interim belt with a second round demolition of Bogdan Dinu in Telford.

“I am thrilled that Daniel is getting his big opportunity to fight for a world championship belt,” said his promoter Frank Warren. “He has had to bide his time and be a little bit patient because there was always the risk of him being bypassed if he took another fight in the interim.

“Now his time has come and winning this fight will open all sorts of doors. A new generation of top heavyweights are closing in on the current kings of the division and Daniel, along with Joe Joyce, is leading the charge.

“Bryan isn’t a household name but there can be no room for complacency. He is unbeaten with a more than respectable knockout ratio, so Daniel will need to be on his guard and on his game in Miami.

“I am also delighted that BT Sport viewers will be served up with a double-helping of boxing action on the night, with our British title battles from the Telford International Arena leading into Daniel’s heavyweight title challenge.”

In Telford, Liam Davies (11-0, 5 KOs) will challenge new champion Marc Leach (18-1-1, 4 KOs) for the British super bantamweight title in his hometown.

In the other half of the British title double, Birmingham’s Ijaz Ahmed (10-2-1, 1 KO) and London’s Kaisy Khademi (8-1-1, 2 KOs) will go at it for a third time with the vacant super flyweight belt at stake and a final eliminator for a shot at the Commonwealth championship.

And in a fight where two prospects put it all on the line, the unbeaten super lightweight Eithan James (8-0) from Northampton goes up against Connor Parker (13-1, 1 KO), Zach Parker’s cousin from Woodville in Derbyshire, in an eliminator for the English title.

Tickets for the show at Telford International Centre on Saturday, 11 June are on sale now, available from Ticketmaster.co.uk.

FORMER HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION LARRY HOLMES WORKS WITH TREVOR BRYAN AND HIS TRAINER  IN PREPARATION FOR WBA HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE DEFENSE AGAINST DANIEL DUBOIS ON SATURDAY, JUNE 11

LAS VEGAS, NV (April 28, 2022)—WBA Heavyweight Champion Trevor Bryan and his team did a lot of listening.  When the former heavyweight champion Larry Holmes speaks, silence is golden.

Bryan is getting ready to defend his WBA title against Daniel Dubois set for Saturday, June 11.

Bryan moved his camp from Ft. Lauderdale, FL to Las Vegas and the former heavyweight champion came to town to work with Bryan.

“Trevor Bryan has got himself together,” said Holmes.   “He’s kind of quiet and he doesn’t talk a lot.  I’m the one with the big mouth.  He did a lot of listening and I did the talking.  He was willing to learn.

“All these guys are looking for that big punch for the knockout and the easy way out.  You can’t beat them unless you take them out in the water and work them over.  The jab did that for me and set up everything else.

“Bryan is a big guy and he’s got himself together.  He is all business.  He really impressed me.”

The 32-year-old Bryan, who sports a 22-0 record with 15 KOs, will be going up against the younger DuBois, at 24-years of age along with his 15-1 record and 14 KOs.

Bryan’s promoter, Don King, is planning to present another spectacular boxing card featuring six championship bouts to continue to promote peace and freedom for the people of Ukraine.

THE EASTON ASSASSIN JOINS TREVOR BRYAN CAMP AS HE PREPARES TO DEFEND WBA HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE AGAINST DANIEL DUBOIS ON SATURDAY, JUNE 11; BRYAN MOVES HIS CAMP FROM FLORIDA TO LAS VEGAS

LAS VEGAS, NV—WBA Heavyweight Champion Trevor Bryan is getting a lesson in camp as he prepares to defend his title against Daniel Dubois on Saturday, June 11.

Bryan has taken a change of scenery as well as he has moved his camp from Ft. Lauderdale, FL to the bright lights of Las Vegas, NV.

Bryan is getting “schooled” by none other than The Easton Assassin and former WBC and IBF Heavyweight Champion Larry Holmes.  Holmes, who put together a streak of 48 straight victories in his 30-year career and amassed a record of 69-6 with 44 KOs, has joined Bryan’s camp in Florida.  Holmes was not only known for his power, but for his jabs, and he is planning to improve Bryan’s jab as well as his game plan against DuBois.

BRYAN ACCEPTS DUBOIS CALL

TREVOR BRYAN SUCCESSFULLY defended his WBA world heavyweight title belt on Saturday night before swiftly responding to a message from across the Atlantic sent by one Daniel Dubois.

Dubois is in mandatory position and next in line for a shot at the WBA title after the governing body granted Bryan permission for a voluntary defence against the largely unknown Jonathan Guidry.

The unbeaten Bryan, 22-0, made harder work of the fight than many probably imagined and the 32-year-old had to rely on the scorecards, which recorded a split decision victory for the New Yorker.

Dubois, 17-1, quickly acknowledged his future opponent’s victory before adding ominously: “But you are in my way. See you soon.”

Bryan readily accepted his next challenge and indicated that he is prepared for an away fixture for what will be a second defence of the belt he won by defeating Bermane Stiverne at the beginning of last year.

“Indeed we will little homie,” responded the executor of 15 KOs. “Cause as I said my campaign overseas will be starting very soon!”

Bryan signed off by borrowing the catchphrase of the voluble former heavyweight contender Shannon Briggs.
