EBENEZER TETTEH BELIEVES he will not be intimidated by the hulking presence of Daniel Dubois in the opposite corner when the pair collide with the vacant Commonwealth heavyweight title at stake on Friday September 27.

The Royal Albert Hall provides a historic setting for what should be an explosive title encounter as Dubois bids to win a seventh championship belt in just his 13th professional fight.

The unbeaten Tetteh, who has 16 KOs to his name from 19 fights, suspects previous opponents of the 22-year-old Londoner have considered themselves beaten before entering the ring.

Tetteh insists he will meet fire with fire and will not go into retreat once trading commences and says his own punching potency will shock Dubois, who has stopped all bar one of his 12 opponents to date.

“Daniel Dubois has never tasted power like mine,” said the 31-year-old from Accra. “He thinks he is going to walk in and I will be on the backfoot. Once I start landing he will realise he is very wrong.”

Tetteh went on to stoke the fires further by labelling Dubois as a ‘scared boy’.

“I am not like other opponents. People get in the ring with Daniel and get scared. The difference is that I see Daniel for what he really is. He is not a scary man, he is a scared boy.”

BRITISH HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION Daniel Dubois spent his afternoon at the Dale Youth Boxing Club in Ladbroke Grove.

Joined by heavyweight legend and former WBC World Heavyweight Champion Frank Bruno, Dubois put on a show for local school children at a special workout ahead of his Commonwealth Championship fight next week.

Dubois donated some tickets to the children present and offered advice to the youngsters who watched on as he performed a pad routine with mentor Bruno. 

As the children chanted his name and cheered on the undefeated former Dale Youth Club member, Dubois gave some encouragement to them:

“It starts in the boxing gym. My advice is to stay in the gym, have a dream, stay focused and give it 100%.”

After taking the 22-year-old Dubois on the pads, British boxing legend Frank Bruno reaffirmed to the media in attendance that he believes Daniel Dubois will go on to become a heavyweight world champion.

“Daniel is a very, very good prospect. I believe he can go to the very top of the sport”, said Bruno.

DANIEL DUBOIS HAS been voted Best Young Boxer of the Year by the members of the Boxing Writers’ Club and becomes the first heavyweight to win the award since Herbie Hide in 1993.

British champion Dubois has confirmed his status as the top young heavyweight in world boxing since turning professional in April 2017 and subsequently winning six championship belts in just 12 fights.

The 22-year-old will bid to make it seven belts in 13 fights when he takes on Ebenezer Tetteh for the Commonwealth title at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday September 27. He has previously won the WBC Youth, Southern Area, English, WBO European and Global, along with the British title he memorably won by defeating domestic rival Nathan Gorman at the o2 Arena in July.

Now recognised as the up and coming force in the division, Dubois is added to a roll of honour where 27 of the former winners have proceeded to become world champions.

The Geoffrey Simpson Award for Best Young Boxer of the Year was first presented in 1951, the first recipient being Randolph Turpin, followed by others who went on to become legends of the sport including Terry Downes, Howard Winstone, Ken Buchanan, John H Stracey, John Conteh, Barry McGuigan, Frank Bruno, Nigel Benn, Naseem Hamed, Joe Calzaghe, Ricky Hatton, Amir Khan and George Groves.

“I am genuinely thrilled to be voted Best Young Boxer by the Boxing Writers’ Club,” reacted Dubois to the news. “There were many strong contenders for the award and I am honoured that my progress in the sport is commended by the winning of such a prestigious honour.

“I know I am following in the footsteps of many, many greats and it is my intention to emulate their achievements.

“I will accept the award on behalf of my team because this has been a team effort and I would like to thank Martin and Tony Bowers and everyone at the Peacock Gym, along with my promoter Frank Warren for successfully guiding my career so far.”

Hall of Fame promoter Warren always believed he had signed a prospect who would take the heavyweight division by storm: “I have been convinced since day one that we were onto something very special with Daniel and everything he has done up to now has confirmed that belief.

“He is an outstanding young talent and a very fine individual who possesses all the ingredients to reach the very top and stay there for a long time.

“I am delighted that his enormous potential is being acknowledged by the Boxing Writers’ Club.”

EBENEZER TETTEH INSISTS he will punish Daniel Dubois for looking beyond the job in hand, while also vowing to inflict revenge on behalf of his countryman Richard Lartey.

Tetteh travels to the Royal Albert Hall from Ghana for a Commonwealth heavyweight title assignment on Friday September 27 encouraged by the problems the larger-than-life Lartey presented young star in the making Dubois at Wembley in April.

The pair engaged in a thrilling shootout that ended with the then once-beaten Lartey being stopped in the fourth. By opening fire and happily trading bombs, Dubois passed his chin-check on the night.

The 31-year-old from Accra reckons he will succeed where Lartey floundered.

HEAVYWEIGHT boxing’s shining light Daniel Dubois feels he’s in a real-life Colosseum when he goes into battle at the Royal Albert Hall.

Dubois (12-0, 11KOs) challenges Ghana’s Ebenezer Tetteh (19-0, 16KOs) for the vacant Commonwealth heavyweight title on Friday October 27 at the famous venue that has stood since 1871.

Promoter Frank Warren believes the historic hall will become the sensational London prospect’s fighting home, following in the footsteps of heavyweight greats who have boxed there.

Dubois, 21, headlined at the London venue in March, and was inspired. Then he slaughtered Razvan Cojanu inside two rounds at the 135 foot domed venue, claiming the WBO European crown.

DANIEL DUBOIS is licking his lips at the prospect of getting to grips with big punching David Price.

British champion Dubois (12-0, 11KOs) bids to add the vacant Commonwealth heavyweight title to his collection when he faces Ebenezer Tetteh (19-0, 16KOs)  at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Friday September 27, live on BT Sport.

If the Ghanaian is defeated, the fast emerging London star fancies a double title defence before the end of this year against Liverpool’s KO King Price, himself a former British and Commonwealth title holder.

Dubois has no worries about offering Price  the chance to regain his old belts, even though 6ft 8in David has knocked out 20 of his 25 victims and carries concussive power.

DANIEL DUBOIS RECKONS it is a shame that Lennox Lewis and Anthony Joshua are not able to settle their differences in the ring.

Former undisputed heavyweight king Lewis and ex-world champion Joshua have been sniping at each other across social media since the 2012 Olympic gold medallist was parted from his belts in a sensational fashion by the previously unheralded Andy Ruiz in New York back in June.

Lewis suggested Joshua examining the make-up of his team and should rematch the Mexican in his home country, while Joshua retorted by calling Lewis a clown and that they are cut from a different cloth.

Dubois, who will bid to win the Commonwealth heavyweight title at the Royal Albert Hall on September 27 when he takes on Ebenezer Tetteh, has had a number of dealings with the 1988 Olympic champion and acknowledges that it is unusual for a current boxer to engage in a war of words with a former one without the potential of a fight to hype.

“I say he is a top-ten fighter and he has proven that by winning the world lineal title twice and beating everyone he has faced. So he has avenged his losses and came back to finish his career on a high, so he is definitely top ten.”

“Yeah, you could argue that definitely, he is right up there.”

Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren today held a press conference at BT Tower to announce major title fights for Daniel Dubois and Nicola Adams at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Friday September 27, live on BT Sport.

Londoner Dubois (12-0, 11KOs) takes on unbeaten Ebenezer Tetteh (19-0, 16KOs) for the vacant Commonwealth heavyweight title providing the Ghanaian comes through a warm-up on August 10.

The bout was mandated by the Commonwealth Boxing Council after Joe Joyce relinquished the title.

Adams who was elevated to WBO female flyweight champion last week, by virtue of her Interim title status will be in world title action, possibly in a unification showdown.

There is a tentative agreement for Adams (5-0, 3KOs) to meet the winner of the August 16 clash between Argentina’s IBF World champion Leonela Paola Yudica and Mexican Isabel Millan, who Nicola beat for interim title — providing the winner comes through unscathed.

If the winner is unavailable through injury for the London date next month, Adams will defend her WBO crown at the Royal Albert Hall and her following fight will be a unification match.

British champion Dubois 12-0 (11KOs), who defeated domestic rival Nathan Gorman in a thrilling encounter at the o2 Arena in July, will seek to win an incredible seventh title in just his 13th professional fight when he takes on Ebenezer Tetteh for the vacant Commonwealth crown.

Previous Commonwealth champion Joe Joyce has relinquished the title and the match between Dubois and Tetteh has been mandated by the Commonwealth Boxing Council, subject to the unbeaten Ghanaian successfully coming through a scheduled fight on August 10.

Promoter Frank Warren also has a tentative agreement for Adams to be involved in a unification clash against the winner of the August 16 clash between Argentina’s IBF champion Leonela Paola Yudica and Mexican Isabel Millan, who Nicola beat for interim title – providing the winner comes through unscathed.

If the winner is unavailable through injury for the London date next month, Nicola will defend her WBO crown at the Royal Albert Hall and her next fight will be a unification match.

Tetteh, 19-0 (16KOs), from Accra will be the second Ghanaian opposition attempting to derail Dubois, who stopped the 31-year-old’s countryman Richard Lartey in April to win the WBO Global title.

“This is a natural progression for me because I want to win every title available to me on my way to becoming a world champion,” said Dubois on his latest assignment.

“I have won the Southern Area, English and British titles already, so I am heading down what people call the traditional route, while also gaining international experience and rankings by winning the WBC Youth, WBO European and Global titles.

“So I believe this is the ideal next step for me against an unbeaten fighter with a lot of KOs to his name.

“It should make for an exciting fight at the Royal Albert Hall and I cannot wait to get back there and do my thing.”

Double Olympic champion Adams, 5-0 (3KOs), was upgraded to WBO world champion last month, by virtue of her Interim title holding status, following the removal of Arely Mucino.

The Golden Girl of British boxing will be in world title action at the Royal Albert Hall in the first ever female professional boxing match at the historic London venue.

Warren added: “I am delighted to be taking another top show back to the Royal Albert Hall, which is such a special venue for boxing.

“It is another ideal test for Daniel in fighting for the vacant Commonwealth title against another dangerous opponent from Ghana. If this turns out to be anything like the Richard Lartey fight then the fans are in for a treat.

“The name of the game for Daniel now is for us to keep stepping him up and him picking up experience. It is only a matter of time before he will reach a mandatory position for a world title.

“Nicola is already in possession of a world title and I am sure she will want to confirm her status with a fine performance in the ring.

“It is only onwards and upwards for our Leading Lady now and this world title is just the beginning for her.”

HEAVYWEIGHT boxing legend George Foreman insists Daniel Dubois is the future of the heavyweight division.

The former world champion and one of the most feared punchers in boxing history has been wowed by the devastating power of Dubois.

Big George cannot wait to see how British boxing’s latest KO King Dubois (11-0, 10KOs) gets on in Saturday’s (July 13) vacant British heavyweight title clash against slickster Nathan Gorman (16-0, 11KOs) at London’s o2 Arena.

Foreman has been following Daniel’s career from his Texan home and gave him ‘The Punching Preacher’s’ seal of approval, roaring: “I can’t see many opponents standing up to him for many rounds.

“It is obvious that Daniel Dubois will walk the trail of fame that only true heavyweights punchers can travel to.”

Foreman first won the world heavyweight title against Joe Frazier in 1973 and reclaimed it almost 21 years later in 1994 when he knocked out Michael Moorer and at the age of 45 became the oldest ever world heavyweight champion.

And of course, he took part in the most famous boxing match in history, ‘The Rumble in the Jungle’ when he was defeated by Muhammad Ali in 1974.

Foreman lending his support is a boost for Londoner Dubois ahead of what is one of the most intriguing domestic heavyweight title clashes for years.

Recent polls among fight fans have seen a surge in support for Nantwich’s Gorman to beat the young Londoner.

Some of the biggest names and prospects in British boxing have given their verdict on the showdown that has got everyone talking. Like most fans, our panel are split.

LYNDON ARTHUR: “It’s a great fight and I have been on Team GB with them both. If Gorman can avoid his punches maybe I go with him, but if he gets hit he goes to sleep. Gorman just.”

BEN DAVISON: “I think it’s a good fight between two upcoming prospects and I think who gets their game plan right and can make those adjustments through the fight will come out on top.

If Daniel gets carried away with the moment and looks for the knockout with Nathan getting under his skin he could play right into Nathan’s hands.”

SUNNY EDWARDS: “The style and skill goes with Nathan, he is a bit sharper. But the power and fitness is with Dubois. If Gorman is conditioned for 12 rounds and Daniel doesn’t get near him then there is only one winner. At heavyweight that is a hard ask so I edge towards Dubois. The winner pushes on and loser comes again.”

CARL FRAMPTON: “Credit to both boys for taking the fight so early in their careers. A loss doesn’t mean the end and I wouldn’t be surprised if they met again. Gorman is slick and a nice mover for a heavyweight, but I just fancy Dubois slightly.”

PETER FURY: “I think this is a 50-50 fight. Both are good young fighters. Gorman needs to get past the first half then the table could really turn into his favour. Dubois holds good power and is so dangerous early on. This is why it’s a 50-50 match up.”

TYSON FURY: “It reminds me of my fight against Dereck Chisora for the British title back in 2011 when we both 14-0. Chisora was higher ranked and more touted than me back then – the same as Dubois over Nathan. Even Frank (Warren) favoured Del boy to beat me and everybody else did. It’s also chubby guy v ripped guy. I fancy Nathan to beat him.”

GEORGE GROVES: “I am happy for this fight because they are both young enough for the loser to rebuild. It’s a good fight for both of them and the winner will go onto something else. They are both willing to put it on the line and it’s a real fight. It is fascinating that they know each other so well and it’s good for them to be in a real fight. Dubois has phenomenal punch power.”

DAVID HAYE: “I don’t know which way it goes, perhaps a draw. It’s a fight I want to be ringside for because both boxers are young and hungry. They have very different styles that will gel nicely. These two fighting is only going to benefit fans.”

ENZO MACCARINELLI: “It is a genuine 50-50. Dubois has the power, but Gorman has lovely skills. I’ve changed my mind so many times. I’m going to sit with Gorman. He has the better all round skills and will stay out of trouble. Saying that. speak to me tomorrow and I will have changed my mind. Great fight and a fantastic card.”

ARCHIE SHARP: “It’s going to be a cracking fight. Daniel Dubois can punch for fun, but I do believe in Nathan Gorman’s ability. For me on pure boxing skills I may have Nathan Gorman edging it on points. I’m just going with Nathan but it’s going to be great.”

JOSH WARRINGTON: “What a fight we have to look forward to – two young, unbeaten prospects, fighting for the British title. It’s going to be fantastic. There are so many different opinions and its got people talking. I am just going with Dubois. He is devastating when he hurts an opponent and I think he could win early.”

LIAM WILLIAMS: “I know in my mind who I think will win, but I like both guys and should respect them. It’s going to be good while it lasts.”

TROY WILLIAMSON: “They are both putting it all on the line and massive respect. I know them really well from Team GB. I have seen them spar many rounds and know what they’re all about. There are a lot of predictions out there and I am not sitting on the fence. I am going for Nathan points or late TKO.”

LOVE ISLAND hunk Tommy Fury reckons it will be a g-lovely night for Nathan Gorman when he faces Daniel Dubois in their heavyweight blockbuster next week.

Dubois (11-0, 10 KOs) and Gorman (16-0, 11 KOs) clash for the vacant British title on Frank Warren’s ‘Heavy Duty’ bill at London’s o2 Arena on Saturday July 13, live on BT Sport.

Fury has found a winner in the villa by coupling up with Molly-Mae, but insists Nantwich’s Gorman will be a knockout in the ring and upset Dubois.

Tommy who is 2-0 as a light heavyweight said: “There is nothing Daniel Dubois does to throw Nathan off.

“I am not just saying it, but I believe it will be an easy fight for Nathan.

“If we’re being serious about it, what does Daniel do? He comes forward one-two and throws a couple of hooks.

“Nathan will become a world champion. Have you ever seen a heavyweight with speed like that before?

“Look what he did to Sean Turner. Sean is a good fighter, but Nathan made it look like it was Sean’s first fight.

“It’s all about levels, especially in the heavyweight division. You can’t just rely on power which a lot of heavyweights do.

“Nathan has got the speed, agility and he can move. For my money Nathan is going all the way 100 per-cent.”

Fury the younger brother of lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, trains alongside Gorman at Ricky Hatton’s gym.

Unless Tommy’s time in Love Island comes to an unexpected end he will not be ringside to cheer on Gorman, a distant relative on his father’s side of the family.

Although he expects Gorman to win the showdown that has split fight fans, he knows that Dubois is capable of landing knockout shots.

He added: “Daniel doesn’t really move his head. He is a basic heavyweight, but he is a big puncher and you have to be cautious.

“You can’t go in there thinking it’s gonna be easy because he can put your lights out in seconds. He is a big man and if you get hit on the chin by anybody over 15 stone you’re going down.

“So what can a big man like that do? You have to be cautious, but I see Nathan winning easily and convincingly.”

OVER TEN THOUSAND boxing fans participated in a social media survey this week, designed to gather the opinions of the fans on the key attributes of both Daniel Dubois and Nathan Gorman ahead of the British heavyweight title showdown at the o2 Arena on July 13.

Fans were asked to assess the pair across a whole range of specific skills, particular strengths and qualities across the Frank Warren social media channels.

The categories were: Better chin, most heart, speed, inside game, ring IQ, most skilful, best footwork, who hits harder, better stamina and who possesses the stronger jab.

Across the board it was Nathan who found most favour with the fans, averaging 65 per cent of the votes.

In a straight vote of ‘Who do you think will win the fight?’ it was the Ricky Hatton trained heavyweight who again came on top with 57% of the votes.

So, sticking to the theme of the popular promotional trailer, the fans seem to agree that Nathan Gorman is the man to beat Daniel Dubois!

However, it is said that the bookies rarely get it wrong and the pricing of the betting giant 32Red is firmly in the corner of Dubois.

32Red have Dubois as the odds on 4/9 favourite, with Gorman 33/20 against. If you suspect this is going to be a close run thing, the draw is a tempting 20/1.

DANIEL DUBOIS BELIEVES taking a whack on the whiskers in his last fight is a box ticked for him and only increases his determination to avoid a repeat.

Dubois, just 21, engaged in a shootout back in April against the then 14-1 Ghanaian Richard Lartey at Wembley. The hooks were winging in from all angles before Dubois stopped the dangerous Lartey in the fourth round.

But the executor of 10 KOs from his 11 professional fights proved that he can take a shot himself and he now faces the challenge of taking on Nathan Gorman for the British heavyweight title at the o2 Arena on July 13.

Looking back on his war at Wembley, Dubois is unfazed over the fact he tasted leather for pretty much the first time as a pro.

“Yeah, but it is a fight though and if you are not exactly sharp and on point in getting your head out of the way then you are going to get clipped,” he reasoned. “I got clipped, but no big deal, I got through it and came back firing on all cylinders.

“It made me that bit sharper so as not to get clipped again. It was a learning experience.”

The winner of five professional title belts already would not commit as to whether he will employ the same gung-ho approach to the job when he goes in with Gorman.

“Whatever my team suggest to me I will take it on-board. I will figure it out on the night, I will get a feel for him in the ring and once I know what he is about and what he is trying to do, I will deal with it.”

ARCH rivals Josh Warrington and Carl Frampton are joined as one over the big Daniel Dubois v Nathan Gorman showdown.

IBF featherweight champion Warrington won a brutal thriller on points against Frampton and they’re expecting another explosive clash when unbeaten pair Dubois (11-0, 10 KOs) and Gorman (16-0, 11 KOs) clash.

And the pair are unanimous that it’s Dubois who will have his hand raised in victory when the vacant British heavyweight championship is on the line at London’s o2 Arena on Saturday July 13.

“What a fight we have to look forward to when Nathan and Daniel fight,” purred Warrington who recently successfully defended his world crown against Kid Galahad.

Warrington added: “They have two different styles, both big punchers, both prospects and a British title on line – it is going to be fantastic.

“It has got everyone talking and there are so many different opinions. It is 50-50, and I know plenty of people are leaning towards Nathan, but I am going with Dubois.

“He is devastating when he gets an opponent hurt and I think he can win early.”

Former two-weight world champion Frampton returns to action in August and hopes for a crack WBO title holder Oscar Valdez later in the year.

Frampton added:  “All credit to both boys for taking this fight so early in their careers.

“A loss doesn’t mean the end, far from it and especially when it is so early in their careers. I can see them, fighting again in the future.

“Key factors for Nathan are that he keeps his feet moving and doesn’t allow Daniel to plant his feet and have the balance to load up on his shots.

“It will be hard for Daniel to carry the same power if he is having to travel and punch at the same time.

“Nathan’s also got very good head movement, variety and good shot selection. If he can keep his feet moving whether it’s big steps or small steps he’ll be bringing Daniel towards him.

“Daniel having to travel and close the distance means he’ll be having to step into Nathan. With good timing, good head movement and good counters he could make Daniel pay.

“I think it’s important that Nathan puts an exit on his shots so when he makes Daniel miss he makes him pay.”

“What’s key for Daniel is feints to throw Nathan’s timing off.

“I think changing the tempo of his work and not chasing Nathan is important.

NATHAN GORMAN has splattered arch rival Daniel Dubois by squashing him with his birthday cake (see link).

Gorman, is 23 today (Tuesday), but in no mood to celebrate until after their vacant British heavyweight title clash at London’s o2 on Saturday July 13, live on BT Sport.

He said: “It’s just a normal training day so I am hardly in the mood to eat cake and have a fun day.

“I won’t see my family because I am staying away from home to be near the gym, but it will be worth it when I beat Daniel.

“I was given the cake at the wrong time and if I did try to eat it I don’t think my trainer Ricky Hatton would’ve been pleased.”

Dubois (11-0, 10 KOs) has done his best to dampen Gorman’s birthday claiming his rival will never entertain fans and says he expects an easy night on Frank Warren’s spectacular card.

Gorman (16-0, 11 KOs) who sparred around 200 rounds with Dubois when they were amateurs snapped back: “Don’t throw stones from a glass house.

“He knows deeps down that he has to train his hardest and that I am coming to take that belt. He knows it.

“No disrespect to the opponents we have both fought – they are just learning fights and had lost before. I won’t accept defeat like they might.

“When I beat him what is he going to say then? He says I’m not exciting, but I will have beaten him so what will that make me?”

DANIEL DUBOIS HAS questioned the entertainment value of fights involving his forthcoming opponent Nathan Gorman.

Gorman, by his own admission, has laboured somewhat to points victories in his last three fights, but mitigates this by pointing out that he has suffered with opponent withdrawals and short notice changes, therefore affecting his level of motivation.

Dubois views the matter differently and insists his July 13 British heavyweight title opposition will never deliver the thrills and spills.

“Well, this sort of fighter will never be entertaining, it is just the way he is,” reasoned the London fighter. “One thing I can tell you is he is never going to be exciting to watch.”

The same certainly cannot be said for Dubois, with his 10 KOs from 11 pro fights. The 21-year-old even entered into a couple of wild swing-offs with his last opponent, Richard Lartey, before stopping the Ghanaian in the fourth.

Dubois cannot fathom what the thought process was behind being drawn into a shootout.

“To be honest, I don’t know,” he admitted. “The spirit and energy told me to do that and I went out and did it. The only thing I can say about that fight is I got a win.”

Meanwhile, Dubois went on to borrow the words of Lartey when assessing the merits of Gorman as an opponent and whether he is the Nantwich man’s toughest assignment to date.

“Yes, as my last opponent said, he is baby food and this guy has definitely been on that.”

NATHAN GORMAN HAS thrown doubt on the reputation of Daniel Dubois as a concussive puncher.

The feuding pair will meet with the British heavyweight title at stake at the o2 Arena on July 13 and most pundits would probably predict any KO finish to be in favour of Dubois.

The young Londoner has wowed the crowds since turning professional in April 2017 and subsequently employed his apparent bludgeoning power to stop 10 of his 11 opponents so far.

Gorman, who knows his forthcoming foe well from their Team GB amateur days, reckons Dubois doesn’t carry the force people believe.

“Yes, I’ve shared the ring with him on numerous occasions,” reflected the 22-year-old pupil of Ricky Hatton. “Yes, it was three or four years ago, but unless he has developed monstrous, monstrous power then nothing really can trouble me.”

Not that Gorman intends to test out his theory regarding the power of Dubois.

“People have yet to see how tough I am,” he added. “I am a very tough man, but there are no awards for being a tough man in boxing, is there? So I will avoid those punches.”

FORMER WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT champion and British boxing icon Frank Bruno today visited the Peacock Gym in London’s Canning Town to spend time with heavyweight prospect Daniel Dubois.

11-0 Dubois takes on 16-0 Nathan Gorman for the vacant British Heavyweight Championship on July 13 at The O2, London in one of the most anticipated fights of 2019.

In front of a gym packed with national media, the legendary Bruno took the 21 year old heavyweight on the pads while offering words of advice and encouragement. 

Frank Bruno and Daniel Dubois then spoke to members of the media where Bruno revealed he had been closely following the progress of Dubois.

“I’ve been following him, studying him. He’s a little bit shy with the cameras, but he’s got a good sense of humour, he’s a good looking guy and can punch like a mule.

“Once he’s matured, I’ll be very, very sorry and scared for his opponents.

“He’s still young and he’s still got a lot of maturing to do but I think he’s the future of British boxing.”

Dubois told media that he grew up watching old tapes of Bruno’s fights and had a special appreciation for the Bruno jab.

“Growing up, my Dad had a whole load of VHS video tapes and I watched quite a lot of Frank.

“Fighters like Frank have paved the way for fighters like us today.”

Asked if he’d seen a better jab, Dubois responded “No. His jab was so solid!”

DAVID HAYE cannot wait for his ringside seat when the world’s best heavyweight prospects Daniel Dubois and Nathan Gorman clash next month.

Dubois (11-0, 10KOs) and Gorman (16-0, 11 KOs) meet for the vacant British heavyweight title at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday July 13, live on BT Sport.

The Hayemaker is wowed by the domestic heavyweight battle of 2019 and says: “I don’t know which way it goes, perhaps a draw.

“It’s a fight I want to be ringside for because both boxers are young and hungry. They have very different styles that will gel nicely.

“These two fighting is only going to benefit fans.”

Former WBA heavyweight title holder, Haye has watched Gorman train at his gym and was surprised by what he saw, but is blown away by Daniel’s concussive power.

Haye added: “Ricky Hatton has done a great job training Nathan Gorman. You can look at the same opponent like Razvan Cojanu – Gorman won on points, Dubois knocked him out.

“That might be a way to judge the two, but believe me I’ve seen Gorman behind closed doors sparring and he is a real handful.

“He is a lot better than he looks. Aesthetically he is not that pleasing to look at, but the punch output and the left hook is good

“Ricky’s best shot was his left hook to the head and body. He has applied that to Gorman’s style. He moves his head and rolls well.”

Dubois, 21, has gained his reputation by knocking out all but one professional opponent so far.

Haye added: “Dubois can close the show. People expect heavyweights to finish with one man not being able to stand up.

“Frank Bruno built his brand doing that and Lennox put on performances like that.”

Some have questioned why Frank Warren has made the fight so soon in their careers, but Haye insists the Hall of Fame promoter has done the right thing by matching his hopefuls.

Haye told Boxing Social: “People say it is too early for them to fight each other, but Frank Warren made a good point that James DeGale and George Groves fought at a similar stage in their careers.

“Both went on to win world titles after and even though DeGale was the loser on that night he became a two-time world champion.

“It doesn’t mean someone’s career is over particularly when they are so young like these guys. I just think it’s a great fight.

“People want to see fighters taking on each other. We’ve seen plenty of guys ducking and avoiding each other.

“We have two fighters on the same network who want the fight so crack on.”

ANDY RUIZ JR is backing Nathan Gorman to join him on his throne as boxing’s upset King.

Big Andy caused an all-time shocker earlier this month when he hammered Anthony Joshua to defeat and became IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight champion.

Gorman (16-0, 11KOs) has been inspired by the achievements of the Mexican who like him isn’t a body beautiful.

What Ruiz Jr achieved at Madison Square Garden will be in Gorman’s mind when he attempts to upset the odds by defeating Daniel Dubois (11-0, 10KOs) in their vacant British heavyweight title clash at London’s o2 on Saturday July 13.

Ruiz Jr has gone out of his way to contact Gorman ahead of the fight even though he is emerging as a rival.

He told him via his official Twitter account: “Good luck mate! You got what it takes.”

Ruiz Jr clearly appreciates the support given by Gorman who said he was capable of springing a surprise against Joshua.

Gorman knows how crucial the Dubois fight is, but admits he will be in no immediate hurry to jump straight into a fight against Ruiz Jr and the division’s elite.

“My main concentration is Daniel, but in the next 12 to 18 months I can get there,” says Gorman who admits it is hard not to think of becoming world champion.

“Being a British heavyweight champion these days you are virtually on that world door, aren’t you?”

RICKY HATTON believes Nathan Gorman has the ring IQ to make sure KO King Daniel Dubois is catching fresh air with most of his punches when the heavyweight giants collide.

The emerging youngsters meet for the vacant British title at The O2, London on Saturday July 13.

Former two-weight world champion Hatton is now making his name as a trainer.

Nantwich’s Gorman (16-0, 11KOS) is his latest star turn and likely to be heading towards would glory if he defeats Dubois (11-0, 10KOS).

Hatton said:  “You have to take the opportunities when they come along and this is the right fight for my lad.

“It has happened a little bit sooner that we thought and I think I can speak for both teams when I say that.

“We know we’ve got a tough task. Look at the size of Daniel, but I think my lad has more in his armoury and that’s why I accepted it.

“I think my lad is gonna win. I think Nathan has the ability to win – the speed, the boxing brain, the movement. With his speed and movement he will make Dubois miss.

“We will have to use that speed and movement to make him miss, but if you make him miss and then hit him with tap-tap punches Daniel will keep on coming.

“So, what we’re working on is the oldest saying in boxing; ‘Make him miss, make him pay and hit him with bad intentions.’

“Daniel isn’t the most elusive and can get hit. I think if Nathan comes back with mean intentions which is what we’re working on I only see it going one way and that is my lad wins.”

DANIEL DUBOIS will be having his own D-Day celebrations if he wipes out Nathan Gorman next month.

While Britain remembers the 75th anniversary of the D-Day Landings today, Dubois will be in the gym preparing for his own military operation against bitter rival Gorman.

Dubois said: “We’re in the hurt business and that is what I look forward to doing to him on fight night.

“I think Nathan is gonna be my easiest fight so far and after I’ve got him out the way I’m after Joe Joyce and whoever is left.

“I have got what it takes to deal with him and it will be easy. I’m here and will get the job done. If I hadn’t shown my skills so far I wouldn’t be here.

“To go in the record books as British champion is something else and a step towards being top of the division. I don’t care about liking Nathan.”

He added: “It is completely irrelevant and I have changed a lot as a professional. It has allowed me to breathe as a fighter and understand more about boxing.

“I have got experience now and from the day I started boxing being heavyweight champion of the world was always on my mind.

“I have the advantage over Nathan in speed and power which plays a massive advantage but there is a lot more to me as well.

“I can match any of the fastest heavyweights out there and I am ready for a fight.”
