“GGG” VS. GEALE SET FOR JULY 26 — MSG/HBO!!

Gennady Golovkin
NEW YORK CITY (June 3, 2014) Boxing’s fastest rising star, Middleweight World Champion, GENNADY “GGG” GOLOVKIN will battle two-time world champion DANIEL “The Real Deal” GEALE in his triumphant return to ‘The Mecca of Boxing”, Madison Square Garden SATURDAY, JULY 26 and televised Live on HBO World Championship Boxing® beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT., it was announced today by K2 Promotions and GGG Promotions in association with Gary Shaw Productions and Grange Old School Boxing.

Headlining the sensational “G4” boxing extravaganza, Golovkin will defend his World Boxing Association (‘WBA’) and International Boxing Organization (‘IBO’) titles against Geale in the scheduled 12-round main event. Golovkin was recently elevated to “Super Champion” status by the World Boxing Association.

“Since his HBO debut less than two years ago, Gennady has become the hottest international star in boxing and we’re thrilled to promote his return to Madison Square Garden, the premier venue for boxing,” said Tom Loeffler, Managing Director of K2 Promotions. “This will be Gennady’s first fight in the main arena at Madison Square Garden, where only a select few could headline today.”

“Daniel Geale is a throwback fighter who has never backed down from a tough challenge and his mindset is no different going into the Golovkin fight,” said Gary Shaw. “GGG” is considered the top dog in the middleweight division by those in the business, but I believe Geale is the best. We will see how Golovkin fares against someone on his level. I have confidence Geale will come out on top.”
“I’m happy to be fighting at Madison Square Garden once again. Fighting in front of the great fans in New York City for the third time is an honor for me and I will train hard to defend my titles in style by giving the fans an exciting show,” said Golovkin. “Daniel Geale has a lot of world championship experience, is a big international name and I look forward to this challenge.”

“I’m pleased to be making my way back to HBO against Gennady Golovkin, a fighter who everyone thinks is invincible,” said Geale. “A victory will get me back to where I want to be. The people of Australia believe in me and that’s what drives me, my countrymen. I want to show them they have a great champion. On July 26th the world will see me back on top.”

“Gennady Golovkin became a breakout phenomenon in 2013, a year both he and Daniel Geale gave fans exhilarating performances on HBO,” said Peter Nelson, Vice President of Programming, HBO Sports. “Golovkin-Geale looks to exceed the high expectation these fighters have set for their fans. This match almost happened before, including what became the night Golovkin made his HBO debut in 2012, while a half a world away Geale won the middleweight title that Golovkin now possesses. There is an intriguing storyline to the fight, to which both fighters seek to write a emphatic ending in the ring at Madison Square Garden on July 26.”

Said Bill Treacy of Grange Old School Boxing, Geale’s co-promoter, “Of all the potential fights this is the one he wants the most. I firmly believe Daniel is the most talented middleweight in the world. The opportunity to return stateside in the main event on a HBO show at Madison Square Garden for two world titles is the ultimate motivation for him to put it beyond doubt.”

With the highest knockout ratio (89%) among all active champions, in addition to his extraordinary growth in viewership on HBO, Golovkin, 29-0-0 (26KO’s), has become a must-see attraction in the international sporting world.

In 2013, Golovkin scored four knockouts, three of which were telecast on HBO to outstanding viewership earning him plaudits for both Fighter of the Year and Knockout of the Year among many media members.

Previously holder of the (‘IBF’) International Boxing Federation Middleweight and WBA “Super” Middleweight Title, Geale brings a distinguished record of 30-2-0 (16KO’s) into the world title challenge with Golovkin. Geale is currently ranked #3 by the World Boxing Association.

Advance tickets priced at $500, $300, $200, $100, $50 and $25 can be purchased starting at 10:00 a.m. ET on Thursday, June 5 at the Madison Square Garden Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster charge by phone (866-858-0008) and online at www.ticketmaster.com and www.thegarden.com

Golovkin to return on July 26 possibly against Geale?

Gennady Golovkin
According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, WBA Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin will return to action Most likely on July 26 at Madison Square possibly against former IBF champion Daniel Geale.

“We feel Geale would be the biggest name available, and that’s why we’ve asked for an exception,” said Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler said. “We’re not ruling Chavez out, but it’s definitely not going to happen in July, and Gennady can’t wait. Hopefully, the fight can happen later in the year.”

Added Golovkin: “It doesn’t matter who I fight, but I’m always looking forward to the future.”

GARY SHAW FIGHTERS MARCH UP WBC RANKINGS

Bryant Jennings
NEW JERSEY (April 19, 2014) – Gary Shaw Productions is happy to announce the ranking updates of six GSP fighters, who have worked their way up the WBC ratings. Fighting in a heavyweight elimination bout, is # 4 ranked contender Bryant Jennings (18-0, 11 KOs). Former two-time Australian Middleweight world champion, Daniel Geale (30-2, 16 KOs), is ranked # 2. At Lightweight (135 lbs), Rustam Nugaev (27-6-1, 17 KOs) is rated # 4, while the undefeated Alejandro Luna (17-0, 13 KOs) is # 10. Thomas Dulorme (21-1, 14 KOs) is rated # 4 at Super-Lightweight, and Jose Pedraza (16-0, 10 KOs) is now # 5 at Super-Featherweight (130 lbs), putting Puerto Rico on the map.

Daniel Geale is right back into title contention with his recent victory over world rated Garth Wood, and will now be fighting Matthew Macklin in a meaningful bout. Geale is knocking on the doorstep of a world title bout. Look for him to go all out against Macklin.

Jennings possesses the athletic ability that hasn’t been seen in the heavyweight division is some time. His style some would say emulates Evander Hollyfield, because of his slippery defense and deceptive punching power. As a late bloomer, Jennings is now coming into his own, getting better with each bout. A world title bout against Wladimir Klitschko (61-3, 51 KOs) is on the horizon, should he beat Mike Perez (20-0-1, 12 KOs) in his upcoming title elimination bout.

Thomas Dulorme is on a roll, winning five fights in a row since his move to Super-Lightweight. His recent win against former undefeated contender, Karim Mayfield (18-1, 11 KOs), has placed him in position to fight for a world title. He’s hoping to get in the ring with any of the champions at 140 lbs.

Known as a pressure fighter, Rustam Nugaev has been unstoppable of late, destroying everyone in his path, winning his last five bouts by knockout. He’s on the cusp of a world title opportunity and would like to face any of the champions at 135 lbs.

Pedraza is a technical fighter with immense boxing skills. His ability to adapt to any style makes him a problem for any challenger. If need be, Pedraza who is a conventional right handed fighter, can switch his stance to southpaw and not lose any momentum during a fight. He’s seeking a fight with champion, Takashi Miura or any of the top contenders in his division. Should Pedraza capture the WBC title at Super Featherweight, he could then move up to Lightweight and have a possible Puerto Rican showdown with Felix Verdejo.

A true Mexican Cowboy, Alejandro “El Charro” Luna is a young hungry 22-year old fighter who has power in both hands. He also has the skill to switch stances and be extremely effective. His steady march up the rankings is gaining him the notoriety he needs to make a run for a world title shot. With a massive fan base in Southern California, Luna’s ready to challenge any top fighter in the Lightweight division.

“My guys are great men with the character to become stars in this sport,” said Gary Shaw. “Geale is one fight away from a world title as is Jennings. My goal is to get Dulorme, Nugaev and Pedraza in a mega TV fight against any of the current champions in their division by the end of the year. With Luna, I want him to stay busy and keep him marching up the rankings. I want to thank the WBC ratings committee for recognizing these future WBC Champions

UNDEFEATED HEAVYWEIGHTS BRYANT JENNINGS & MIKE PEREZ COLLIDE IN A WBC HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE ELIMINATOR AND DANIEL GEALE BATTLES MATTHEW MACKLIN SATURDAY, MAY 24, 2014 AMERICAN BANK CENTER in CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS LIVE ON HBO®

Bryant Jennings
Corpus Christ, Texas (April 17, 2014) Undefeated and top rated heavyweights BRYANT “By By” JENNINGS of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and MIKE “The Rebel” PEREZ, fighting out of Cork, Ireland will clash in a World Boxing Council (‘WBC’) Heavyweight Title Eliminator on SATURDAY, MAY 24, at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas and televised LIVE on HBO Boxing After Dark® beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, it was announced today jointly by K2 Promotions and Gary Shaw Productions.

The winner of the 12-round bout will become the mandatory challenger for the WBC Heavyweight Title, which was vacated by longtime champion Vitali Klitschko earlier this year. Jennings and Perez are currently ranked #4 and #5, respectively by the sanctioning body.

Opening the telecast is a 10-round middleweight battle between two-time former world champion DANIEL “The Real Deal” Geale and perennial contender MATTHEW “Mack The Knife” MACKLIN.

“The world has been desperately seeking a heavyweight to take over the division and I believe that person is Me,” said Jennings. “By defeating Mike Perez, I will position myself as the mandatory position in the WBC. My promoter Gary Shaw ensures me that if I win this fight; I’ll be looking at a potential world title bout soon. My main focus is winning this fight against Perez and I’m doing everything in the gym to make that a reality. I’ll be ready to go come May 24th.

“My dream has always been to fight for the heavyweight championship,” said Perez.
“This has been my dream since I first started boxing and I have sacrificed a lot to get this opportunity. Jennings and I have been on crash course for a while and now with so much at risk I’m sure it will bring out the best in both of us. However, as good as Jennings is I will be victorious.”

“Mike Perez is a good fighter with an undefeated record and he is dangerous for any opponent,” said Gary Shaw. “But I feel my fighter Bryant Jennings has the athletic ability, the speed and movement to defeat him and is the all around better fighter. This is the type of fight the fans deserve, two undefeated guys putting it all on the line to get a world title shot, that’s what boxing is all about.”

Said Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, “It is rare to see two undefeated heavyweights once again risk their record in a fight like this featured on HBO. However there was no hesitation from either side when the WBC ordered this eliminator because both fighters want to fight for the WBC Heavyweight Championship of the World.”

“We feel that Mike is among the best heavyweights in the world and expect him to show that on May 24th against Bryant Jennings.”

“The WBC is proud to sanction the fight between Perez vs. Jennings as a final elimination fight as part of the WBC tournament in the Heavyweight division,” stated Mauricio Sulaiman of the World Boxing Council.

“Vitali Klitschko was honored with the Emeritus Champion distinction after he decided to search his dream of becoming President of his country Ukraine and is being regarded as a hero by many.”

“The WBC ordered a tournament between all top rated fighters to fight and Perez vs. Jennings will prove to be a formidable match to find the second mandatory contender of the WBC Heavyweight division. “

The 29-year-old Jennings, 18-0-0 (10KO’s) is coming off his career best victory, a sensational, HBO televised tenth round knockout of Poland’s Artur Szpilka on JANUARY 25 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Dominating the action from the outset, Jennings dropped the crafty southpaw in the sixth before finishing him off in the final round.

A highly successful amateur in his native Cuba, the 29-year-old Perez has compiled a record of 20-0-1 (12KO’s), since moving to Ireland and turning professional in 2008.

Perez has made two previous appearances on HBO, on NOVEMBER 2, against Magomed Abdusalamov from Madison Square Garden in New York City and more recently facing Carlos Takam on JANUARY 18 from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

Hailing from New South Wales, Australia and sporting a record of 30-2-0 (16KO’s), the 32-year-old Geale previously held the WBA and IBF middleweight titles. Most recently Geale stopped fellow countryman Garth Wood in the sixth round on FEBRUARY 19 in New South Wales, Australia.

Former world title challenger Macklin of Birmingham, England has had an illustrious 12-year career having compiled a record of 30-5-0 (20KO’s).

Despite suffering a third round stoppage at the hands of middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin on JUNE 29, 2013, Macklin stormed back into the world rankings with a dominant ten round unanimous decision over then undefeated Lamar Russ on DECEMBER 7 in Atlantic City, Jersey. Both of these bouts were telecast on HBO.

“I can’t wait to make my return on HBO and fight Mathew Macklin,” said Geale. “I’m keen to prove I am still one of the best middleweights in the world. Macklin is a very tough opponent who likes to go to war, as do I, our clash of styles could make a fight that steals the show. I will confirm my status as one of the top fighters in the division with a victory. When I win, I still want to fight Golovkin, if he comes back to 160, or the winner of Sturm vs. Solomon.”

Said Macklin, “I’m really excited about the fight with Daniel Geale. He’s a good fighter, a former world champion, and he throws a lot of punches like me so I’m expecting it to be a tough, action-packed fight. After the Golovkin fight, the win over Russ got me back on track and a much-needed 10 rounds of work. Winning on May 24th against Geale will throw me back into the world title mix, so in many ways this is almost a world title eliminator. It’s a great fight between two of the best and most exciting middleweights in the world.”

“Most people are saying that this is a 50/50 fight. I don’t know Geale personally but he seems like a good guy and I respect him as a fighter for what he has achieved and accomplished in his career. That being said though, I always believed he was tailor made for me and there only going to be one winner on May 24th and that is me.”

The Geale/Macklin bout is presented in association with DiBella Entertainment and Grange Old School Boxing.

The American Bank Center is located 1901 N. Shoreline Blvd. in Corpus Christi, Texas. For further information please visit their website at www.AmericanBankCenter.com

Jennings – Perez; Macklin – Geale doubleheader set for May 24 on HBO

Bryant Jennings
According to Dan Rafael of espm.com, an intriguing doubleheader has been set for May 24 on HBO that will feature a Heabyweight elimination bout between Bryant Jennings and Mike Perez as well as a Middleweight showdown between former champion Daniel Geale and Matthew Macklin.

“I honestly think Perez is more dangerous that Szpilka because he’s so used to being the bully,” Jennings told ESPN.com from his training camp in Houston. “Both of them are slick but Perez has this type of bully aspect and I always bully the bully. I would hope (Perez trainer) Abel Sanchez makes sure Perez is smart and they take their time to do everything correctly because they are dealing with someone who is well-skilled and well-conditioned and ready to fight. I hope Perez brings his A-game and please do not sleep on Bryant Jennings.”

“I think it’s the best matchup right now. We ain’t ducking nobody. We’re fighting for a position that we would both love to be in,” said Jennings, who turned pro in 2010. “It’s all about the position.”

Said Jennings and Geale promoter Gary Shaw, “This is a real heavyweight fight. It’s a really good fight between two top contenders. I know Jennings is ready. He trains all the time. I think it’s a 50-50 fight. The questions I have is can Jennings use the lateral movement that I believe Perez cannot handle? Will Jennings start off slowly and be a sitting duck for Mike Perez to tee off on, because Jennings is historically a slow starter? Can he start quicker with more movement like he was going into the fourth round not the first? I believe he can.”

“I think it’s a great matchup between two of the top undefeated fighters in the heavyweight division,” said Perez promoter Tom Loeffler said. “I believe the winner of this fight will ultimately go on to win the WBC heavyweight championship. Both fighters have already been featured on HBO and there is a lot of anticipation for this fight now.”

“Stylistically, it’s a great fight and the outcome is doubt. This isn’t one of those fights where you know who the winner is going to be,” said Lou DiBella, Macklin’s promoter. “Neither of these guys is a huge favorite in the fight. These are two guys who like to fight, who like to throw punches and they’ll go at each other. But I have confidence in my guy.

“This is a good, old-fashioned ‘Boxing After Dark’ fight and I think the winner will get a title fight or a fight as economically big or bigger than a title fight.” Geale (30-2, 16 KOs), 33, of Australia, won a world title in 2011, made four successful defenses, including outpointing Felix Sturm in a unification fight, before losing a split decision to Darren Barker in August. Geale has fought once since, scoring a sixth-round knockout of countryman Garth Wood in February.

“I believe Geale is the better fighter, a late bloomer, and will bring it all, no different then what he did in the Barker fight,” said Shaw, Geale’s promoter.

DANIEL GEALE EYES GENNADY ‘GGG’ GOLOVKIN SHOWDOWN

daniel-geale
AUSTRALIA (February 19, 2014) – Last night at the Horden Pavilion, in Moore Park, New South Wales, Austrailia, former two-time middleweight world champion, Daniel “Real Deal” Geale (30-2, 15 KOs) dominated WBA #12 Garth Wood (12-3-2, 8 KOs), stopping his fellow countryman as his corner halted the bout after the sixth round. He is now eyeing a bout with Gennandy “GGG” Golovkin.

“My ambition is to recapture a world title and bring it back to Australia,” said Geale. “I will do whatever it takes to regain my status as the middleweight champion of the world. With Wood out of the way, the doors have opened for other big fights. I believe Gennady Golovkin and I would make for a great fight. If HBO can bring that fight to fruition then I’m all for it. Golovkin needs to fight someone of my caliber to be considered elite. The fans deserve a great competitive fight and that’s what Golovkin and I bring to the table.”

“I would have fought Golovkin already had there been a PPV date, but there was none available. My promoters Gary Shaw and Garrie Francisco believe this fight can happen and that’s the direction I want to go. The same style I fought against Wood is what I anticipate would be successful against Golovkin. It would be a great fight for the fans.”

Daniel Geale to face Garth Wood

daniel-geale
Former IBF Middleweight champion Daniel Geale will take on Garth Wood on February 19th in Sydney, Australia according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

“I’m glad Daniel is fighting as he needs to stay busy,” said Geale’s promoter Gary Shaw.

“Wood is a dangerous and risky fight against a wild puncher,” Geale told ESPN.com. “I have been training hard for my comeback fight. I’m not going to take this fight lightly. We needed a fight to keep active, the opportunity arose, and my management arranged it. It will be an interesting fight with different styles.

“I can’t wait to get back in there and pursue my journey to become a world champion again. I believe the plan is to fight GGG sometime in 2014. It would be ideal to be able to take a title to the table. We will see what happens.”

“Geale wants to fight GGG in April, and I have spoken to HBO about the fight and all they say is that they are interested, but they are exploring other options,” Shaw said. “What can be a better option than Geale, a true 160-pounder and a former world champion who beat [Felix] Sturm [in a unification fight] on German soil? And even though Daniel did not get the decision in [against Barker] he is willing to come back just to fight GGG.

“What I don’t understand is that after the Barker fight, HBO said they wanted Geale back, and now they have gone silent. I know GGG would fight Geale as [Golovkin’s team] asked if we wanted the fight in Monte Carlo, but Geale wants to fight him on HBO.”

“Daniel has been the best fighter to come out of Australia in 20 years with what he has done, going overseas and beating the champions on their turf,” Wood told the (Sydney) Telegraph, referring to Geale’s two title victories in Germany against Sturm in 2012 and Sebastian Sylvester in ’11.

“And even though Murray being canceled was a disappointment, I believe everything happens for a reason and it has led me to this, my biggest fight by far, and deservedly so.”

GARY SHAW SUPPORTS AUSTRALIAN BOXING COMMISSION

October 24, 2013 – Boxing promoter Gary Shaw who represents Australian fighters Daniel Geale and top contender Joel Brunker to name a few, is an avid supporter of promoting fights internationally, especially in Australia.

After a fight between Australian Anthony Mundine and American Shane Mosley was recently cancelled due to some controversy, Shaw had this to say about his dealings with the Australian boxing commission.

“Daniel Geale and Joel Brunker are two great fighters that I’m proud to say are part of our stable here at GSP. In all my dealings with the Australian boxing commission, I found them to be very honest and upright in every aspect of business. I know Shane Mosley had some harsh words toward the Australian boxing scene and commission and he’s entitled to his opinion, but I’ve always had a great deal of respect for everyone I’ve dealt with in Australia, including Bill Treacy, Garrie Francisco and Angelo DiCarlo to name a few.”

Shaw went on to say, “Shane Mosley is a future Hall of Famer and I admire and respect him for all his accomplishments and dedication to our sport. I don’t know if Shane was dealing with the Australian commission directly or if it was the promoter that he had a problem with, but every time I did business in Australia, everyone got paid. I’m proud to say I’ll continue doing business in Australia and I find their commission to be straightforward, honest and truthful.”

The 12-round championship bout will take place at the Revel Casino-Hotel, Atlantic City’s newest and largest casino resort. Tickets prices start at $30 and are on sale now at all Ticketmaster locations, online at Ticketmaster.com, and by calling 800-745-3000. The HBO Boxing After Dark telecast will begin at 9:45 p.m. ET/PT.

Romero, who hails from Colombia, recently captured the vacant IBF super bantamweight title when he traveled to Mexico and defeated Alejandro Lopez on his home turf.

“I’m very thankful to my promoters Gary Shaw and Thompson Boxing for getting me this fight on HBO,” said Romero. “In my last fight I accomplished my dream of becoming a world champion and now it’s time to defend it. I know Martinez is a big puncher but I believe my boxing skills will prevail in this fight. I’m coming to win and win impressively.”

Martinez who represents his country of Spain, is rated #15 by the IBF and won the vacant WBC Latino super bantamweight title in his last fight by way of knockout against Damian David Marchiano of Argentina. Martinez, known for his heavy hands, dropped Marchiano in rounds one and two before the referee stopped the bout. He’s looking to do the same against Romero.

“Romero is a very good fighter but he has never faced a powerful puncher like me,” Martinez said. “Once he feels my power he’ll know he’s in for a short night. My goal is get the knockout one way or another. The fans watching will witness an explosive fight from my end.”

“Jhonatan is a very talented fighter that brings a lot of excitement to the ring with his active style,” said Shaw. “I believe he’s the best super bantamweight in the world today and I’m pleased that HBO will be televising his fight. He’s in a tough fight but I believe he’ll come out on top.”

“We are excited that Jhonatan ‘Momo’ Romero will be able to showcase his talent on HBO and make his first IBF title defense in front of a large U.S. audience,” said Alex Camponovo, executive Vice President of Thompson Boxing Promotions. “Since winning the world title Romero has become a star in Colombia and we want him to make the crossover. We know Kiko Martinez will be a rigorous test for Romero but we can’t cut any corners at this level. It will be a great match because both men are ready to shine and more than willing to show their ability.”

daniel-geale
NEW JERSEY (June 25, 2013) – Revel Casino-Hotel, Atlantic City’s newest and largest casino resort, will proudly host the highly anticipated middleweight showdown between IBF titleholder Daniel Geale (29-1, 15KOs) and No. 6 rated contender from the UK Darren Barker (25-1, 16KOs) on August 17th. Gary Shaw Productions in association with Grange Old School Boxing, and Matchroom Boxing, will promote the event which will be televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark® beginning at 9:45 p.m. ET/PT.

This is the first time a boxing event will take place at Revel Casino-Hotel since its grand opening in May of last year. Shaw is very excited to present the show and also the potential for bringing more events to Revel. He knows this card is an incredible opportunity to kick off boxing at the fantastically vibrant venue, Ovation Hall. Event start time is 7 p.m.

Tickets prices start at $30 and go on sale Thursday, June 27th at 10 a.m. at all Ticketmaster locations, online at Ticketmaster.com and by calling 800-745-3000. The HBO Boxing After Dark telecast will begin at 9:45 p.m. ET/PT.

“You know how amazing it will be to break in a venue like Revel with an HBO tripleheader,” said Shaw. “I mean that is one heck of a way to open up boxing at any kind of first class hotel and casino. We’re excited for the card, but now we get the chance to do it at a quality location. I’ve been to Revel and I can tell you that everything about this place screams boxing, action, and total entertainment.”

“Fans will feel as though this place is catering to them. The venue is set up nicely to host cards big and small, and the people associated with Revel are smart, hardworking individuals. I’m happy to be working with my good friend, Revel executive Bernie Dillon, whom I had the pleasure of doing business with when I was with the New Jersey State Athletic commission. I can’t wait to work with him and his staff. The event itself will be incredible,” Shaw continued.

Shaw’s excitement is warranted, after all the main event stands alone as a much anticipated showdown in the middleweight division and fight fans are hopeful that this showdown will produce genuine fireworks.

“This is Daniel Geale’s first time competing in the states and U.S. fans that aren’t familiar with him are in for a big treat. Daniel is a quality fighter and I think he could be the best middleweight in the division right now. He isn’t just talented; he is a fighter’s kind of fighter with intentions of making hardnosed type of dog fights. His opponent’s style meshes well and we feel like this is not just a meaningful fight in the division, but also one that fight fans can really get behind as it will be not only competitive but will set up the next big fight in the middleweight division,” Shaw said.

Geale has spoken for a couple of years about fighting in the U.S. and now he is finally making good on that promise as he gets the chance to compete on U.S. soil in front of a major television audience.

“I’m excited to be on HBO because you can’t mention boxing without HBO. I will be exposed to many U.S. fight fans for the first time in my career thanks to my promoter Gary Shaw and Grange Old School Boxing. The feeling is overwhelming. I’m excited to perform in a city that has hosted so many legends such as Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Evander Holyfield, Diego Corrales just to name a few. I will do my part to live up to what past legends have accomplished,” Geale said.

Gary Shaw Productions is staging a great boxing event come August 17th and fans will be in for a real treat, especially those fans fortunate enough to be in attendance at Revel.

“Fans will get their money’s worth with this card and we will have two debuts that night: the American debut of middleweight world titlist and possibly the best fighter at 160lbs, Daniel Geale, as well as the debut of one of Atlantic City’s newest crown jewels, Revel.”

Geale to defend Middleweight crown against Barker

daniel-geale
According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, IBF Middleweight champion Daniel Geale will take on Darren Barker on August 17th at The Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, NY and will be televised by HBO.

“Fighting in the United States for the first time is truly an honor,” Geale said. “I’m going to give the fans a great night of boxing while representing my country with dignity.”

“Barker has to be one of the toughest opponents I’ve faced on paper, but I’ve been in the ring with world titlists and it remains to be seen whether or not Barker can offer up anything extra,” Geale said. “He is a top-rated fighter amongst 160-pounders, but in the middleweight division that’s saying a lot because the entire division is dangerous. A guy in the top 10 at middleweight would be top 3-4 in almost any other division.”

Said Geale’s American promoter Gary Shaw: “This division is so good that everywhere you look you see tough fights, but Daniel could’ve taken an easier fight. There are easier fights out there compared to Barker, but Daniel wanted this fight. The winner will be in a position to be considered the best middleweight out there.”

“I’m going to have my hands full, that’s for sure,” Geale said. “Barker gave Martinez all sorts of fits, but he is an even better fighter now, and I think he has improved a great deal since the Martinez fight. I’m not sure Martinez could beat Barker now. Maybe Martinez planned on fighting Barker before he got too good? I want the fights that will give me the biggest challenges, and I plan on handling Barker better than anyone has. It won’t be easy, but that’s what I’ll attempt to do.”

“This is a golden opportunity for me, and I feel it’s my time to shine,” Barker said. “It’s been a tough journey for me, but I’m one fight away from realizing my dream and becoming world champion. I’ve dedicated my entire life to this sport, and since the Sergio Martinez fight I really feel like I’ve grown as a fighter. I can’t wait to bring that IBF world title back to the U.K.”

“This is the fight that Darren wanted so badly, and now he’s got it,” said Barker’s promoter Eddie Hearn. “This is a wonderful fight between two incredibly gifted middleweights, it’s a pure 50-50 fight, and I know Darren is going to bring it home.”

Pirog-Geale; Trout-Dzinziruk in the works for Summer doubleheader

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com., an intriguing world unification doubleheader is in the works for a potential August 25th date on HBO featuring WBO Middleweight champion Dmitriy Pirog and IBF champion Daniel Geale as well as WBA Super Welterweight champion Austin Trout taking on WBO champ Sergiy Dzinziruk.

“It’s very close. We’re 99 percent done,” Said Artie Pelullo, who promotes Pirog and is the co-promoter of Dzinzuruk. “I’m very excited about the opportunity for Pirog to be on HBO and for Dzinziruk to be back on HBO. These four fighters are among the best in their respective weight classes, and it’s been a long time coming that they are on HBO.”

“These are two very interesting, pick ’em fights,” said Garry Shaw, who promotes Geale, co-promotes Trout with Greg Cohen and co-promotes Dzinziruk with Pelullo, who also promotes Pirog. “We’ll come out with someone important at 154 and definitely someone important at 160. So I really like this card. I really believe there will be two people who come out of these fights who will be important to boxing in these two weight divisions.”
