EVANDER HOLYFIELD’S THE REAL DEAL BOXNG ANNOUNCES OUTSTANDING CARD FOR SATURDAY, APRIL 21 AT KINGS THEATRE IN BROOKLYN, NY

New York City (March 23, 2018) Evander Holyfield’s The Real Deal Boxing has announced an outstanding card for their return to the historic Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, NY on Saturday April 21, 2018.

Advance tickets for ‘Real Deal, Showcase Series III’, presented in association with World of Boxing and Uprising Promotions, priced at $150, $125, $75 and $50 are now on sale online through the Kings Theatre website, www.KingsTheatre.com.

“We’re thrilled to return to Kings Theatre so quickly after our successful opening night on March 10,” said Holyfield. “It’s a beautiful venue and we’re very excited to return and showcase our fighters in Brooklyn on April 21.”

Stated Andrey Ryabinsky of World of Boxing, “We are happy with the way that our cooperation is progressing with The Real Deal Boxing and Mr. Evander Holyfield. We had a great first event that we put together on March 10th and look forward to taking the next step with another event at King’s Theater on April 21st.”

Headlining the event, Josue ‘The Prodigy’ Vargas, (10-1-0, 6 KO’s), of Bronx via Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, makes a quick return to battle following his sensational fifth-round stoppage of Zach Ramsey on March 10 at the Kings Theatre.

The 19-year-old Vargas, now on a four-bout winning streak (his only loss was by a controversial disqualification), will face off against Yonkers, NY native Victor Vazquez, (10-3-0, 4 KO’s) in an eight round junior welterweight bout.

Vazquez will be looking to add to his three-bout winning streak as the 22-year-old impressively knocked out David Gonzales in the first round on March 2, 2018, in Philadelphia, PA. Vazquez is signed to Marshall Kauffman’s Kings Promotions.

Co-featured is the triumphant return of undefeated Bronx welterweight Peter Dobson, (9-0-0, 5 KO’s), in an eight-round clash with Brooklyn’s Martin Wright, (11-2-2, 5 KO’s).

Making his first start of 2018, Dobson returns to battle following the most impressive win of his three-plus years as a professional. On June 24, 2017, Dobson scored an eight-round decision over then undefeated Jeremy Nichols in Louisville, KY.

The battle-tested and upset minded Wright looks to return to the win column following a hotly contested eight round decision loss to undefeated David Grayton on October 17, 2015 in Fairfax, Virginia. Prior to the loss Wright was riding a three-bout winning streak in New York City area-based fights.

In a special attraction eight round bantamweight clash, undefeated Duke ‘The Baby-Faced Terminator’ Micah, (21-0-0, 18 KO’s), of Accra, Ghana, will battle veteran Frenchman Yoan Boyeaux, (41-5-0, 26 KO’s).

Making his long awaited United States debut, the 26-year-old Micah looked outstanding in a 10-round decision victory over Jose Santos Gonzalez on November 18, 2017 in Queens, NY. The victory was the first defense of his newly earned WBC International Bantamweight Title.

Fighting all over the world, Boyeaux was undefeated over a six-year span prior to his most recent fight, a loss to WBO Super Flyweight World Champion Naoya Inoue on December 30, 2017 in Yokohama, Japan. This will be the first time Boyeaux has fought in the United States.

Also on the card will be local favorites and The Real Deal Boxing prospects Justin Biggs (3-0-0, 3 KO’s) and Mathew Gonzalez (4-0-0, 3 KO’s), as well as Mexican-American phenom Oscar Moreno (5-0-0, 5 KO’s).

Special-feature bouts will include the return of 2016 Olympians from Uzbekistan, Shakhram Giyasov (1-0-0, 1 KO) and Murodjon Akhmadaliev (1-0-0, 1 KO) as well as Batyr Ahmedov (3-0-0, 2 KO’s), all signed to manager Vadim Kornilov and promoted by World of Boxing.

“We’ve also signed a number of Puerto Rican fighters from the local area and are planning a tremendous event on Saturday, June 9 to host National Puerto Rican Day,” said an elated Holyfield.

Further details on the National Puerto Rican Day event on June 9 will be also be announced in the coming weeks, but it is expected to feature the highly anticipated return of super middleweight knockout artist Edgar ‘The Chosen One’ Berlanga (7-0-0, 7 KO’s) and The Real Deal Boxing debut of newly-signed, hard-hitting undefeated featherweight Carlos ‘Pote’ Vidal, (11-0-0, 10 KO’s) plus much more.

**all bouts in the first two rounds of the tournament will be 10-rounds; in case of a draw, the contestants should be ready to go to an immediate 11th round.
“The welterweight division is among the hottest divisions in boxing and the WBC is the very best organization in boxing to work with on this unique and fan-friendly event,” said boxing legend Holyfield.

Said COO of The Real Deal Boxing, Eric Bentley, “We’ve said from the start that we want to stand out and provide a unique experience for our fighters and our fans. This tournament will offer a select group of fighters an opportunity to fight on a global platform for the WBC with the potential to earn a high ranking. It’s a big undertaking for our company but we’re up to the challenge and believe this can be something we do on a regular basis. Our intention is to create an innovative experience that will transcend the sport of boxing from a medical, regulatory, and production standpoint.”

“There are still many problems in the sport of boxing that have not been rectified, and our team has worked hard with the WBC to create a concept that can hopefully lead to improvements in these areas, such as developing a standardized scoring criteria and increasing the number of judges to minimize the margin of error, just to name a few. We’ve spoken with several commissions and regulatory authorities around the world who would be interested in employing these methods and we expect to have dates, locations, and broadcast information ready to be released in the coming weeks.”

“We’re looking forward to working with Mauricio Sulaiman and his great team at the World Boxing Council on this extraordinary event, and are greatly appreciative of the opportunity to carry out the legacy of Jose Sulaiman with this recurring tournament.”

Fighters from around the world will meet to have a sole winner, who will eventually be finding a world title opportunity in the world’s most important boxing entity, the WBC.

“This tournament will launch several innovative rules and procedures and our gratitude goes to Evander, our great legendary champion and his staff for making this a reality.”

Included among the unique aspects set forth for the tournament;

–Boxing fans will be given the opportunity to help determine the seeding of each fighter. The WBC will provide their rankings of the top eight, which will account for 50% of the consideration; boxing fans will be able to vote for seeding and first round matchups through The Real Deal Boxing social media and that will account for the other 50%.

–Depending on the number of qualified applicants, the same process will apply for the selection of the two back-up boxers.

–Development and implementation of a standardized scoring process that clearly defines how the judges should score each bout.

–Additional judges to minimize margin of error. A fourth judge will be placed at ringside and a fifth judge will be placed in front of a TV monitor with no audio commentary. All five judges’ scorecards will be used if the fight goes the distance.

–Employment of an Open Scoring concept to allow fighters the knowledge if they are winning or losing a fight.

–Assignment of Neutral and Experienced Judges throughout the tournament.

Further details on tickets and the telecast network will be announced shortly.

WORKOUT QUOTES

Evander Holyfield, Hall of Famer, Real Deal Boxing:”There’s a lot of pressure fighting in a big fight for the first time at home. I remember my homecoming in Atlanta, back in 1985, and there were a lot of distractions. Everybody who knew my name showed up, most looking for free tickets. I was skeptical about ever fighting there again. Everybody’s different, though.”

“Toka may be our first world champion. He’s a very disciplined person who has been through a lot. I come from the ghetto but, when I heard his story, wow, I couldn’t believe his (life) was harder than mine.”

Toka-Kahn-Clary: (Toka became a father for the first time on Nov. 11, when his wife, Devanni, delivered a 7-pound girl, Adaline) “Now, I’m fighting for my family, not just Toka anymore.”

“I feel good. I had to have patience and faith in my craft to get here. If you keep working hard, doors will open, and when they do you have to jump right through. I want to win impressively, dominate the fight”

“I see a lot of top fighters in my weight class. I’m not going to name any until after this fight, but I have the talent to beat them.”

“I want to be recognized after I stop fighting, like Evander, who everybody knows, likes and respects.”

Peter Manfredo, Sr., Kahn-Clary’s head trainer: “Toka is a top prospect who is becoming a contender. A lot of fighters don’t even get to this point. This fight is a major opportunity to get him closer to where he wants to be, not just a world champion, but for his name to be remembered in boxing. He wants to be a legend. He has to remain focused because this is the first time he’ll have a big crowd behind him.”

Fabio Turchi (Italian Amateur Champion) “Everybody here has been great, very hospitable. It’s such a great honor for me to fight in America with its great boxing tradition. I want to have a great fight to be embraced by Americans, especially here in Rhode Island. It’s beautiful having so many Italians, that gives me and added push to win.”

Nick DeLomba: “This opportunity means the world to me because I’ll be showcasing my talents in front of my hometown fans. An impressive win will, hopefully, get me to the next level, in TV fights against bigger names.”

BRYANT CRUZ, EDGAR BERLANGA AND DUKE MICAH SCORE IMPRESSIVE VICTORIES AT EVANDER HOLYFIELD’S THE REAL DEAL BOXING IN NYC!

New York City (November 19, 2017) On Saturday night, Evander Holyfield’s Real Deal Sports & Entertainment returned to Resorts World Casino New York City with another sold-out, action-packed nine-bout card for the latest installment of its popular “Real Deal Championship Boxing” series, proudly sponsored by Medical Arts Radiology, Venum, and Nissan of Queens.

“It was a tremendous event for our second show in New York City and we are thrilled with the overwhelming response from the media and fans,” said Eric Bentley COO of Real Deal Boxing.

In the main event, Bryant “Peewee” Cruz, 129.8 lbs., of Port Chester, NY, impressively demolished Dominican Angel Luna, 128.8 lbs., of Yamasa, in three rounds. Cruz got off to a slow start, with Luna the aggressor during the first two frames. In the third, Cruz exploded with two straight rights upstairs to fell his opponent. With Luna unable to rise, the bout was halted at the 0:42 mark. Cruz’ record is now 18-2 (9 KOs), while Luna, who previously went the distance with Toka Kahn Clary and Tevin Farmer, dropped to 12-4-1 (7 KOs).

Highly touted middleweight prospect Edgar Berlanga, 161.4 lbs., of Brooklyn, NY, needed just 102 seconds to up his perfect record to 6-0 (6 KOs) against Enrique Gallegos, 161.8 lbs., of Medford, Oregon, now 7-6-1 (2 KOs). Left hooks to the body and head from Berlanga resulted in the first knockdown. When Gallegos arose, Berlanga launched a barrage of shots, finishing with an overhand right, to drop his foe a second time to secure the TKO stoppage. As an amateur, Berlanga became an eight-time National champion while compiling a 162-17 record.

Duke “The Baby Faced Terminator” Micah, 117 lbs., a 2012 Olympian for Ghana now living in The Bronx, NY, engaged Mexican Jose Santos Gonzalez, 117.2 lbs., of Guadalajara, in a very entertaining 10-round battle of attrition. It was the US debut for both of them. The first half belonged to Micah, countering Gonzalez’ aggression. A left hook wobbled Gonzalez to end round one. Chopping straight rights were a primary tool for Micah and a cut was opened above Gonzalez’ left eye in round four. The orthodox Gonzalez consistently switched to southpaw throughout as he worked to get inside. Over the next few frames, Gonzalez was pressuring and walking Micah backward, banging away at the body. Micah made an effort to box and move in the eighth, using his jab and straight right to regain control. However, the relentless Gonzalez continued to attack and the two were trading power shots at the final bell. An even scorecard of 95-95 was overruled by two tallies of 96-94 in favor of Micah, winner by majority decision. With the win, Micah, now 21-0 (18 KOs), defended his WBC International bantamweight title for the first time. Gonzalez’ record moved to 23-6 (13 KOs).

Alicia Napoleon, 154.8 lbs., of Lindenhurst, NY, out boxed Budapest, Hungary’s Nikolett Papp, 159.6 lbs., over six rounds en route to a shutout decision victory. Napoleon circled her game opponent each frame, landing an array of punches with bad intentions. Outworking her adversary, Napoleon blasted Papp with overhand rights, left hooks and jabs and hooks downstairs. A left hook opened a cut above Papp’s right eye in round three and a straight right stunned her in the fourth. With three tallies of 60-54, Napoleon improved to 8-1 (5 KOs). Papp returned home with a 4-2 (2 KOs) record.

Rafael Castillo, 118.4 lbs., of The Bronx, NY, evened up his record at 1-1, earning a unanimous decision over four rounds in an upset against favorite Saleh Almulaiki, 118.2 lbs., of Richmond Hill, NY, now 1-1 (1 KO). Scorecards read 40-36, and 39-37 twice. Castillo applied pressure for the entire route. Almulaiki, whose best round was the last, was forced to play the role of counterpuncher for much of the contest.

Ghanaian Fredrick Lawson, 149.6 lbs., of The Bronx, NY, who won the WBC International Silver welterweight title in March, stayed on his toes to outbox Colombian Fidel Monterrosa, 150.8 lbs., of Barranquilla, and methodically break him down with hooks to the body. Monterrosa hit the canvas twice in round two, first by a right hook to the body-straight right to the head from Lawson. Following three completed rounds, Monterrosa could not come out of his corner for the fourth due to an injury suffered to his right hand. With the TKO victory, Lawson’s record increased to 26-1 (21 KOs), while Monterrosa fell to 38-14-1 (30 KOs).

Middleweight southpaw Justin “The Brooklyn Knight” Biggs, 158.2 lbs., a three-time Junior Olympics gold medalist, controlled the first six minutes against Newark, NJ’s Simon Saye, 159.2 lbs., probing with his jab to get in close enough to land combinations and was particularly effective with right hooks to the body. Early in the third, Biggs caught Saye wide open with a counter right hook upstairs to drop him hard. The referee immediately waved off the bout without a count, awarding Biggs his second straight knockout victory in as many pro bouts, at the 0:59 mark. Saye remains winless at 0-2-1.

Panamanian welterweight prospect Cesar Francis, 143.6 lbs., of Brooklyn, NY, took on the always-game Maxito Sainvil, 142 lbs., of Spring Valley, NY, and used his height advantage to keep his foe at bay with stiff jabs setting up straight rights and left hooks. Sainvil tried his best to close the gap by leaping in with wild haymakers. Francis countered one of those shots with a left hook-right hook combination to fell Sainvil in round two. Sainvil remained game and willing to trade until a barrage of punches from Francis forced the referee to halt the contest at the 1:10 mark of round three. Francis is now 3-0 (2 KOs) with Sainvil, suffering his second consecutive loss, at 4-2-1 (2 KOs).

Ukrainian heavyweight Iegor Plevako, 215.6 lbs., stalked Sherman Artis, 221.2 lbs., Severn, MD, throughout four scheduled rounds, increasing in intensity each frame, to earn a unanimous decision with three scores of 40-36. Artis attempted to circle the ring and box from a distance, but Plevako planted jabs to the midsection to quell that movement. By round two, Plevako began unleashing his straight right upstairs then landing in combination over the second half. With the win, Plevako, based in Brooklyn, NY, upped his record to 5-0 (3 KOs), while Artis fell to 3-2.

EVANDER HOLYFIELD’S REAL DEAL SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT SIGNS TOP WELTERWEIGHT CONTENDER CHRIS VAN HEERDEN!!

New York City (October 26, 2017) Evander Holyfield’s Real Deal Sports and Entertainment has announced the signing today of top welterweight prospect CHRIS “The Heat” VAN HEERDEN, (25-2-1, 12 KO’s) to an exclusive promotional contract.

“Chris has shown the ability to persevere through adversity throughout his entire career,” said Holyfield. “With his world class skills and a champions attitude I look forward to working with him on the right opportunities to become a world champion.”

“I’m very happy to be working with boxing legend Evander Holyfield and the great team at Real Deal Boxing,” said Van Heerden. “Evander is a true inspiration to me and I’m very confident they can provide me with the everything I need to become a world champion.”

“We’re thrilled to sign Chris and to be working with him and his team on the next steps in his career,” said Bentley. “We feel he’s one of the top welterweights in the world and are anxious to get started on the next chapter of his career.”

Based in Southern California, Van Heerden, originally from South Africa, trains at the Wild Card West Boxing Gym in Santa Monica under the tutelage of JULIAN CHUA. He is guided by the team of veteran boxing manager PETER KAHN along with actor FRANK GRILLO and producer/director JOE CARNAHAN.

“Chris Van Heerden is one of the most underrated and avoided welterweights in boxing, it’s as simple as that.” said Kahn. “While Chris was world rated last year, half of the division’s top ten turned down fights against him and opponents priced themselves out of fighting him, leading to his inactivity. His relentless pressure, southpaw stance, rugged style and a granite chin is what makes him such a contender.”

“Just as Jeff Horn was ready to accept Chris as his first optional defense, Chris was removed from the world ratings due to inactivity. It was time for Chris to align himself with a promoter and Evander Holyfield and the team at Real Deal Sports & Entertainment was a no-brainer. We are thrilled to be a part of this team as we map out the path to a world title.”

Stated Carnahan, “I consider Chris one of the great unheralded welterweights of this era. His only true loss was against arguably the best welterweight in the world, Errol Spence Jr. He’s a tough matchup for any top five fighter and impossible match-up for anyone outside of those elite names.”
Continued Grillo, “The Heat is grossly underrated and poses a genuine threat to any welterweight out there. Chris showed he belongs amongst the elite in his weight class with his fight against Spence.”

Most recently Van Heerden won the WBA Pan African Title with a dominant 12-round decision over Sacky Shikukutu on October 22, 2016 in Kempton Park, South Africa.

Full details of Van Heerden’s first bout under the Real Deal Boxing’s banner will be announced shortly.

THE REAL DEAL BOXING MAKES SMASHING NY DEBUT

NEW YORK CITY, (September 10, 2017) Saturday night at Resorts World Casino NYC in Queens, NY, Evander Holyfield’s The Real Deal Boxing presented a thrilling eight-bout card to a capacity crowd of over 2,000 people.

Headlining the event was a battle for the Jr. NABF Middleweight title between Kingston, Jamaica’s Kemahl Russell and Patterson, NJ native Ian Green. In his most impressive outing to date, Russell stopped the very game Green in the seventh round of a scheduled eight-round bout. Russell was in control from the outset as he stalked Green, landing hard shots to the body and head. The assault continued over the next few rounds as Russell continually backed up Green hurting him on several occasions. Green valiantly tried to stand his ground but the ringside doctors had seen enough and stopped the contest in the seventh round. Russell improves to 12-1. 10 KO’s as he wins the Jr. NABF Middleweight title while Green falls to 12-2, 9 KO’s.

The co-feature of the evening was an eight-rounder that saw Queens native Devaun Lee (now 9-2-1, 4 KO’s) score an impressive fourth round TKO over former World Title Challenger Giovanni Lorenzo (now 37-8, 28 KO’s), from Washington Heights, NY via the Dominican Republic. The action was hot from the outset as both fighters traded freely until the 4th round as Lee caught Lorenzo with a devastating combination that forced the referee to call a halt to the action.

Fan-favorite and Real Deal’s newly-signed phenom Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga improved to 5-0 5 KO’s with a sensational first round knockout of previously undefeated Saadiq Muhammad, who falls to 4-1. The NYC native Berlanga caught the Rochester, NY fighter right off the bat with a left hook dropping Muhammad and followed up with a devastating right hand which knocked Muhammad out cold. Muhammad stayed on the canvas for several minutes but thankfully rose to his feet as the sellout crowd gave him a nice round of applause.

In other bouts, Julian Sosa, (9-0-1, 3 KO’s), from Brooklyn, NY had to work hard in capturing a six-round decision over rugged veteran James Lester, (11-13-1,4KO’s), from Detroit, MI, in a Welterweight matchup.

In a four round Super Bantamweight scrap, Yemen native now living in Brooklyn, Khalid Twaiti improved to 2-0, 1 KO as he outworked the very game Rigoberto Miranda, 0-5-2, Bronx, NY.

Another transplanted Yemen fighter Salem Almuaki, currently residing in Queens, NY, looked spectacular taking out Assel Lashoon, 0-1, Bronx, NY, with a crushing overhand right in the first round of a bout scheduled for four rounds in the Super Bantamweight division. Almuaki goes to 1-0 1KO.

Greg Outlaw, 4-0 1 KO, who came up from Bowie, MD and Sidney Maccow, 4-7 3 KO’s, out of NYC, NY engaged in a highly-entertaining six round Jr. Welterweight fight which saw the Maryland native squeak out a unanimous decision victory, 59-56, and 58-56 on the other 2 judges scorecards.

Cesar Francis, 2-0 1KO, Brooklyn, NY blasted out pro debuter Eduardo Rodriguez, 0-1, NYC, NY.

Real Deal Sports & Entertainment COO Eric Bentley had these comments after the nights’ festivities “This is more than we could have hoped with our New York debut. All the hard work that went into this event by our amazing staff and fighters showed that there is a place for grassroots boxing in New York. I’m very proud of these fighters, each of them taking a chance and testing themselves in competitive fights. Edgar Berlanga is a superstar, mark my words: he will be a world champion one day. How many young prospects are willing to step up and fight another one? Much respect to both him and Saadiq for their competitive spirit. Also, Kemahl Russell and Devaun Lee just put the middleweight division on notice with their very impressive victories. We’re excited to keep bringing these types of events to New York and we’re only going to get better.”

Evander Holyfield, co-founder of the company, had this to say: “Wow was this an exciting night or what? What a great crowd and these young men who fought tonight put on a great show; that’s what this is company is about. Competitive fights, opportunities, and excitement… let’s do it again.”
