WESLACO, TX (August 21, 2019) – Argentina’s Javier Nicolas Chacon took part in a media workout Tuesday in Weslaco, Texas as he nears his showdown against unbeaten interim WBA Super Bantamweight Champion Brandon Figueroa that headlines FS1 PBC Fight Night and on FOX Deportes this Saturday night from Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, Texas.

Chacon will make his U.S. debut in the main event of action beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT as he looks to upset the Weslaco-native Figueroa’s homecoming title defense. Chacon brings a four-fight winning streak into his third attempt at a super bantamweight title.

“I’ve been close to becoming a world champion and I’m ready for another opportunity. I’ve proven I’m the best in South America and I’m eager and hungry to get this win.

“I’m very motivated to win this title for Argentina since currently there is no champion in Argentina. We are proud fighters who always bring action and leave it all in the ring, and that’s what you’re going to see on Saturday night.

“This is going to be a great fight that you’re not going to want to miss. Brandon and I are going to combine to bring action. We’ll see who is the last man standing.

“We worked hard to take the title back home to Argentina. We know what we need to do. We have prepared well because we know Brandon is a great fighter. There is a lot of respect for him since he is the champion, but I can also more than hold my own.

The Weslaco, Texas native Figueroa will make his homecoming title defense in the main event of action that begins at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT as the 22-year-old looks to retain the title that he won by stopping Yonfrez Parejo in April on FOX.

“A victory on Saturday in front of my hometown family and friends would be amazing. These are the people who have been supporting me and wanting to see me live for several years. Finally getting to this moment is a big honor to me.

“It’s different fighting at home and sleeping in my own bed during fight week. It’s a nice feeling. I’m just focused on what I have to do, and that’s train and fight.

“I feel incredible. My weight is coming off well. Physically and mentally I’m very ready. I can’t wait for Saturday. It’s going to be fireworks and an amazing show.

“It’s an honor to be the first boxer to headline at Bert Ogden Arena. I’m breaking it in and making history, so I know it’s going to be a memorable moment for me.

“My power is really continuing to grow and I’m more explosive in the ring now. We’re always increasing the volume of punches we can throw and we’re getting stronger every day.
