Masternak-Mormeck confirmed for December 5

The hotly anticipated cruiserweight clash between Mateusz Masternak (33-2, 24 KOs) and Jean Marc Mormeck (37-5, 23 KOs) has been confirmed for December 5 at the Palais des Sports in Issy-les-Moulineaux, Hauts-de-Seine, France.

Masternak, who returns following the fourth-round stoppage of Ben Nsafoah, is ready to get his world title ambitions back on track when he travels to Hauts-de-Seine to face the legendary French cruiserweight on his home turf.

‘’Mormeck is a great boxer,’’ said Masternak. ‘’He may have struggled at heavyweight but as a cruiserweight he is still very dangerous. I will need to be 100% prepared, but I believe in myself and I believe I can beat him.

‘’I have no fear of fighting in France. A boxing ring is a boxing ring no matter where in the world you are. I have fought away from home before and I know what to expect.

‘’This is a massive fight for me. If I win I will put myself back in the mix for a shot at a world title. But at the moment, I can’t risk looking past this fight. This is the most important fight of my career. It’s a fight I must win!

The Polish ‘Master’ has a tough task ahead of him. His opponent Mormeck is a former two-time world champion, who following a brief spell at heavyweight has returned to the cruiserweight division with the sole intention of reclaiming his belts.

‘’My goal is to challenge for world titles,’’ said Mormeck. ‘’This fight will pave the way for me. This is not a dream. This is a reality. I have been world champion before and I will become world champion again.

‘’I don’t study my opponents before a fight. That’s not my thing. I have watched only three rounds of Masternak, but for me that is enough. He is former European Champion with a decent record so I know he will be a tough opponent and I’m expecting a good fight.’’

‘’This is a fascinating match up,’’ said Masternak’s promoter Nisse Sauerland. ‘’There is a lot at stake for both men. It’s a fight that neither can afford to lose. Mormeck is a quality fighter. He has been in with and beaten many of the best. On December 5, Mateusz has the chance to prove he belongs at world level by beating a former world champion in his own backyard!’’

Klitschko trashes Mormeck in Four; gets knockout number fifty

Wladimir Klitschko made his eleventh consecutive defense of his world Heavyweight championship by destroying undeserving challenger in former Cruiserweight champion Jean Marc Mormeck in round four at the Espirit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany.

All Mormeck tried to was get inside without throwing any punches. He did that successfully but that may have been the highlight of his fight because he was dropped hard at the end round two from a big right hand. Klitschko got closer until uncorking a perfect left-right-left combination that sent Mormeck down to the canvas for the count of referee Luis Pabon at 1:12 of round four.

Klitschko notches is fiftieth knockout that sees his record raised to 57-3. Mormeck is now 35-5.

Klitschko to take on Mormeck December 10th in Germany

Ring Magazine Heavyweight champion Wladimir Klirschko will defends his titles against former World Cruiserweight champion Jean Marc Mormeck on December 10th in Dusseldorf, Germany according to espn.com’s Dan Rafael.

“I know that I am the favorite in all my fights but I also know that each opponent is motivated to be in the best shape ever when he fights me,” said Klitschko, who is 17-2 in world title bouts and will be participating in his 20th title fight. “Mormeck is one of the most experienced fighters I have ever faced. He has had many world title fights, has a very good technique, can take a lot of punches and is very intelligent inside the ring. To underestimate him would be a fatal mistake.”

In 2007, Haye, also a former cruiserweight champion, went to Mormeck’s native France, survived a fourth-round knockdown and rallied to knock him out in the seventh round to win the cruiserweight title.

After the loss, Mormeck (36-4, 22 KOs) took nearly two years off before returning as a heavyweight. He has won each of his three heavyweight bouts against second-tier opposition: Vinny Maddalone, Fres Oquendo and Timur Ibragimov.

“I had Haye on the canvas and shortly before a knockout, which Klitschko could not do,” Mormeck said. “What I missed out against Haye I will now do with him. Wladimir has a glass chin which I will break. He cannot stand punches. Against his brother (fellow heavyweight champion) Vitali I would have thought longer about fighting him, but against Wladimir I believe I have very good chances. On Dec. 11, I will travel back to Paris with a suitcase full of championship belts. I enjoy being the underdog in this fight and I will shock the boxing world.”
