CEYLAN: “IF I LOSE AGAINST SANCHEZ, I WILL RETIRE”

Dennis Ceylan (19-2-2, 8 KOs) says he will retire if he loses his rematch with Jesus Sanchez (9-1, 2 KOs) on Saturday, January 19 at the Struer Energi Park.

Ceylan will be looking to avenge his shock knockout loss to Sanchez at the same arena on March 10 as they contest the EU Featherweight crown on the undercard of Dina Thorslund’s WBO World title defence against Alesia Graf.

“One thing is for certain, I will give my everything in the ring, and that should be enough for me to win on Saturday. Most fighters are in trouble when I’m boxing at my best,” says the former European Champion from Aarhus.

“I’m expecting a tough fight. I know Jesus Sanchez will do everything possible to show it was not just a lucky punch last time, but if I don’t beat Sanchez, then I will lose heart and hope, and I might as well hang up my gloves.”

Despite offering this career ultimatum, Ceylan is confident of victory, even if this means going against his instincts, and knows he must beat Sanchez to get the big fight he craves, including a rematch with IBF Champion Josh Warrington.

“I will need to patient, at least that’s the tactics, but patience, to be honest, is not exactly my strong suit,” he says. “I’m an eager beaver, and it can quickly become unbearable for me when nothing is happening in a fight, and I would rather give the fans some action for their money.

“However, the most important thing is that I get revenge against Sanchez so I can move forward with my career. I believe one hundred percent that I have a future, and that I’m not finished at all. I have my eyes on some of the big boys, such as Josh Warrington, who I would like to smash, but I have to earn it, and my dreams can only become a reality, if I get a victory on Saturday.”

Dina Thorslund tops the bill in Struer, defending her WBO Female World Super Bantamweight title against Alesia Graf, while former European Champion Dennis Ceylan rematches Jesus Sanchez for the EU Featherweight crown.

Oliver Flodin faces Abdul Khattab in a Scandinavian middleweight thriller, heavyweight hope Kem Ljungquist takes on Dominik Musil, Lolenga Mock continues his World title chase against Mateo Damian Veron, Mikkel Nielsen meets Bulgaria’s Angel Emilov, and Adam Bashanov faces Ivan Nikolov.

MUNOZ: “ALL THE PRESSURE IS ON CEYLAN”

Jesus Sanchez’s (9-1, 2 KOs) coach Luis Munoz says all the pressure is on Dennis Ceylan (19-2-2, 8 KOs) ahead of their rematch for the EU Featherweight title on January 19 at the Struer Energi Park in Denmark.

Sanchez recorded a second round knockout win over Ceylan on March 10, a result which shocked the fans in Struer, but came as no surprise to the Spanish Champion and his coach, who are predicting a repeat performance.

“It wasn’t a surprise for us,” says Munoz. “When we accepted the fight, we knew we could win. We have a lot of respect for Dennis and know he is a good fighter, but we knew we could beat him, and we’re confident of doing it again.

“Jesus is stronger than Dennis, and we know from the first fight that it’s possible to knock him out. However, we’ve not prepared for this fight thinking about a knockout. Jesus will be ready to go all twelve rounds, if needed.

“All the pressure is on Ceylan. For him this fight is all or nothing. A defeat would mean the end of his career. He is the favourite and fighting at home, so he has a lot to prove not just to himself but to his fans and promoter as well.”

Munoz insists Sanchez is prepared to upset the odds once again and claim a second victory away from home against the former European Champion.

“We’re 100% ready,” he says. “Jesus is always disciplined and dedicated to training. We are focused exclusively on this fight. We’ve studied our rival, we know our strengths, and we know the best tactics to follow.”

Dina Thorslund tops the bill in Struer, defending her WBO Female World Super Bantamweight title against Alesia Graf, while former European Champion Dennis Ceylan rematches Jesus Sanchez for the EU Featherweight crown.

Oliver Flodin faces Abdul Khattab in a Scandinavian middleweight thriller, heavyweight hope Kem Ljungquist takes on Dominik Musil, Lolenga Mock continues his World title chase against Mateo Damian Veron, Mikkel Nielsen meets Bulgaria’s Angel Emilov, and Adam Bashanov faces Ivan Nikolov.

HOLM: CEYLAN MUST NOT UNDERESTIMATE SANCHEZ

Frank Holm says Dennis Ceylan (19-2-2, 8 KOs) must not underestimate Jesus Sanchez (9-1, 2 KOs) or risk suffering a second defeat to the Spanish Champion as they contest the EU Featherweight title on January 19 in Struer.

“This is a must win fight for Dennis. He is a much better and more gifted fighter,” says the Danish coach. “He must box from a distance, use his long jab, stay focused and be patient. He must lure Sanchez into traps, make him miss and make him pay. That is what we have been working on in the gym.”

Ceylan returns to the Struer Energi Park on a mission to avenge his shock second round knockout loss to Sanchez on March 10. A result that would help the former European Champion get his promising career back on track.

“Dennis sparred with Sanchez prior to their first fight,” reveals Holm. “And in those session he played with him, it was a walk in the park. Therefore, he might have taken it too easy the first time they met, but now, we’ve seen what can happen if you do not keep your concentration or keep your distance.

“Dennis must stay sharp, he must not underestimate Sanchez, and then I am sure he will get the win and take home the EU title!”

Having been stopped by Sanchez, Ceylan’s only other loss came in an IBF World title eliminator against Josh Warrington, a fighter now dominating the division following victories over Lee Selby and Carl Frampton.

“We have achieved something good already, and we’ve been close to achieving something great,” says Holm. “We must admit that we are yet there on Warrington’s level, however, we are still capable of producing big results.

“After winning the EU title, I would like to see Dennis fight again for the European title against the current champion Kiko Martinez, and then we can see how much further we can take it!”

Dina Thorslund tops the bill in Struer, defending her WBO Female World Super Bantamweight title against Alesia Graf, while former European Champion Dennis Ceylan rematches Jesus Sanchez for the EU Featherweight crown.

Oliver Flodin faces Abdul Khattab in a Scandinavian middleweight thriller, heavyweight hope Kem Ljungquist takes on Dominik Musil, Lolenga Mock continues his World title chase against Mateo Damian Veron, Mikkel Nielsen meets Bulgaria’s Angel Emilov, and Adam Bashanov faces Ivan Nikolov.

DANISH DOUBLE HEADER CONFIRMED FOR JANUARY 19 IN STRUER

Dina Thorslund (12-0, 6 KOs) defends her WBO Female World Super Bantamweight title against Alesia Graf (19-7, 13 KOs), while Dennis Ceylan (19-2-2, 8 KOs) rematches Jesus Sanchez (9-1, 2 KOs) for the European Union Featherweight title on January 19 at the Struer Energi Park in Denmark.

Thorslund returns to her hometown fortress for a fourth time to make the first defence of the WBO World title she claimed with a unanimous points win over Mexico’s Yessica Munoz at the Struer Energi Park on August 25.

The 25 year-old is currently Denmark’s only reigning World Champion, the first Dane to have won a World title since Mikkel Kessler, and only the second female in Danish boxing history to have achieved this success.

“This will be the fourth time I box in front of my fans in Struer,” says Thorslund. “It has been amazing every other time, and I hope it will be again. It is almost too much to hope for, but so far, the support has only improved each time. It’s hard to describe how much it means to have people in Struer to back me up.

“Alesia Graf is tall so she poses a different kind of challenge than I’m used to. She’s a good fighter, but let me make it clear: I’m not afraid of anyone!”

Graf, nicknamed ‘The Tigress’, from Stuttgart, Germany, has held versions of the World title in both the Super Flyweight and Super Bantamweight divisions, as well as challenging for the Bantamweight crown on three occasions. She is an experienced contender, who is confident of upsetting the home fighter.

“This is a big opportunity for me to fight for the WBO World title,” said Graf. “Dina is undefeated, which obviously says something about her, but I go into every fight with the intention to win, and this is no different. I will prepare as best as possible. It will be an exciting fight for sure, with me coming out on top.”

Having suffered a shock second-round knockout defeat to Sanchez at the Struer Energi Park on March 10, former European Champion Ceylan has the chance for revenge as he rematches his Spanish rival for EU title.

Ceylan has said it is ‘all or nothing’ as he looks to get his promising career back on track on January 19, stating a loss will result in his retirement.

“Sanchez caught me with a good shot last time, but that’s not going to happen again,” said Ceylan. “This time, I’m going to prove that I’m the better fighter. I’m not afraid of this guy. I want revenge. This fight is all or nothing for me. If I win, my career is back on track, but if I lose, I will retire.”

Sanchez returns to Denmark full of confidence following his knockout win, and has vowed to get the better of Ceylan for a third-time having reportedly schooled the Danish boxer in a sparring session prior to their first encounter.

“We sparred together in 2017 while you were training in Madrid, and I got the best out of you. We fought in Struer, and I knocked you out. The third time we meet, it will not be any different,” says the Spanish Champion.

“It’s always dangerous to predict a knockout because you risk looking for a big punch and opening yourself up for counters. Therefore, I am happy to simply predict a win – be it on points or inside the distance.”

“We’re delighted to be returning to the Struer Energi Park with another fantastic card,” said promoter Nisse Sauerland. “The atmosphere is always electric when Dina fights, and this time the fans can look forward to a double header of title fights with Dennis challenging for the EU Featherweight title.

“Dina’s star continues to rise, and I believe she is close to establishing herself as one of the best female fighters on the planet. Dennis has had a difficult twelve months, but now has the chance for redemption. By defeating Sanchez and claiming the EU title, he can get his career firmly back on track.”

Ceylan rematches Sanchez for EU title on November 24 in Aarhus

Dennis Ceylan (19-2-2, 8 KOs) rematches Jesus Sanchez (9-1, 2 KOs) for the EU Featherweight title on November 24 at the Ceres Arena in Aarhus, Denmark.

Ceylan says it is ‘all or nothing’ as he looks to avenge the shock second-round knockout defeat he suffered to Sanchez on March 10 at the Struer Energi Park, and reclaim European honours having previously held the EBU Featherweight strap.

“I am very happy to get the rematch with Sanchez,” said Ceylan. “He caught me with a good shot last time, but I was up and ready to continue, and I don’t think the fight should have been stopped, but I can’t blame the referee, I should have I kept my hands up and not given him the opportunity.

“This time it will be different. I’m not afraid of this guy. He may have beaten me before but it won’t happen again. Now, I want revenge. This fight is all or nothing for me. If I win, my career is back on track, but if I lose, I will retire.”

Sanchez returns to Denmark full of confidence following his impressive knockout win, and has vowed to get the better of Ceylan for a third-time having reportedly schooled the Danish boxer in a sparring session prior to their first encounter.

Promoter Nisse Sauerland says he is excited to bring big-time boxing back to Aarhus, and has warned Ceylan must ‘be at his best’ to defeat Sanchez.

“We look forward to returning to Aarhus for another fantastic night of boxing on November 24,” said Sauerland. “Dennis suffered a heavy defeat last time he shared a ring with Sanchez, but now he has the chance for revenge!

“After a tough 12 months, winning the EU title will be a huge boost for Dennis’ career and can bring him back into EBU and World title contention, but as we saw in March, he will need to be at his best to beat Sanchez.”

The EU Featherweight Championship contest between Dennis Ceylan and Jesus Sanchez will top the bill at the Ceres Arena in Aarhus on November 24 with a full undercard featuring the very best of Danish boxing set to be announced.

Tickets will go on general sale on Friday, October 26 at 9.00 (CEST) and are available online via www.ticketmaster.dk or by calling (+45) 70 15 65 65.
