LOGAN PAUL HOSTS MEDIA WORKOUT AT WILD CARD BOXING AHEAD OF PROFESSIONAL BOXING DEBUT ON DAZN

LOS ANGELES – Oct. 23, 2019 – YouTube sensation Logan Paul opened up the doors to his training camp yesterday at the iconic Wild Card Boxing Gym in Hollywood ahead of his much-anticipated professional boxing debut. Paul first squared off with KSI in an amateur boxing match in front of a sold-out crowd in Manchester, England in August 2018. Following the majority draw, KSI and Logan Paul agreed to meet again as licensed professional boxers on Nov. 9 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The event will be streamed live exclusively as part of the action-packed Fight Season on DAZN.

Below are quotes from yesterday’s workout:

On training camp: “The only problem is that the fight isn’t tonight. I’ve been locked in camp for two and a half months. I haven’t taken a day off for the last year and a half since our last fight. That draw left a nasty taste in my mouth. There is a lot of regimented hard work you have to put in to become a fighter and few people are willing to do it. This is such a hard grueling sport. This is a big fight and it’s the biggest event of my life so there’s no reason that I won’t go as hard as I possibly can every day. Boxing has changed my life and I haven’t even been doing it that long. We call training camp ‘The No Fun Club.’ We aren’t allowed to have fun. We are locked down and it is intense. We have a very routine-based camp.”

On fighting without headgear: “I think the head gear saved him last time. I like throwing hooks and with the headgear, you can’t get to that button. I think that without headgear, the pressure to not get hit is so much higher so it makes my reflexes that much better.”

On the stakes: “There’s so much on the line between me and KSI. There is so much on the line. Egos, subscribers, the crown of “The YouTube King.” The last match was a draw. If the W is secured in a monumental way, something similar to when Conor McGregor knocked out Jose Aldo, if something like that happens, it is going to be long-lasting form of stardom. There is a stigma that comes along with being an internet star – a YouTuber, an influencer. The narrative of the first fight was that there’s these two YouTubers boxing and now it’s two YouTubers slash professional boxers fighting. But I think that boxing helps get rid of that stigma. People look at you in a different way when you get inside these ropes and put it all on the line.”

On fighting on a card with Billy Joe Saunders: “It blows my mind to fight atop a card with a former world champion like Billy Joe Saunders. I’m honored and I’m humbled. I legitimately cannot believe that that’s the circumstance. It is amazing that they are willing to give us a chance and I hope that we can return the favor by putting on a sick show. But also for some of our fans to notice Devin Haney and Billy Joe Saunders, and for them to absorb our fan base. I hope they can put on a good show and bring some new fans to the sport of boxing.”

On his trainer Shannon Briggs: “Shannon and I quickly realized that we are the same person. We are both loud, we are boisterous, we are passionate, and we love the sport of boxing. We fight the same way, too. It’s like a crazed speed and power. When he gives me coaching advice it really resonates with me. We are both tall, we both have range and we are quickly. It is a match made in heaven.

Fight Season on DAZN continues this weekend with the World Boxing Super Series final between Regis Prograis and Josh Taylor. On Nov. 2 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez will jump up two weight classes to meet light heavyweight titlist Sergey Kovalev in one of the biggest fights of 2019.

SAUNDERS DEFENDS WBO SUPER-MIDDLWEIGHT CROWN IN LA

Billy Joe Saunders will make his long-awaited US debut when he defends his WBO Super-Middleweight World title for the first time on the blockbuster KSI vs. Logan Paul 2 show at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Saturday November 9, live on DAZN.

Saunders (28-0, 13 KOs) became a two-weight World Champion with a shutout points win over Shefast Isufi in Stevenage earlier this year, outclassing his Serbian opponent over 12 rounds to land the WBO 168lbs title.

The Hatfield southpaw’s first World title came against Irish fight legend Andy Lee at Manchester Arena in December 2015 when he floored the former champion twice in the third round on route to a majority decision to claim the WBO Middleweight crown.

Saunders signed a promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing in August and is out to impress on his big DAZN debut later this year as he aims to secure megafights with the likes of Callum Smith, Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez.

“It feels like my professional debut all over again,” said Saunders. “I’m very excited to fight in front of the American fans for the first time in my professional career. The STAPLES Center is an unbelievable venue and I’m hearing that 20,000 people are expected to be packed in on the night.

“It’s a great chance to get some new fans onboard and a chance to capitalise on putting my name in the big lights in America. The KSI vs. Logan Paul rematch has really captured the imagination of the British and American public and it’s something that sells. Fair play to them both, it’s going to be a great show.

“People say, ‘oh you’re on the undercard’, but I feel like we’re all sharing the show, we’re all absorbing that energy off the fans. I’ve seen the numbers they attract, over six million people watched the press conference alone, and all eyes will be on us on November 9.

“I’m looking forward to making my debut with Matchroom Boxing live on DAZN. There’s been some brilliant names signed to DAZN recently and there’s some big names on the platform. It’s time to really put my impressing shoes on and put my name out there for those big fights to be made.”

“I’m really pleased for Billy that he will get to make his US debut on November 9 at the superb STAPLES Center,” said Eddie Hearn. “Everyone in the sport knows that he is one of the best out there at 160lbs and 168lbs and he wanted the opportunity to prove that he IS the best.

“This event will be huge with a chance for Billy to box in front of a massive global audience of boxing fans and a casual audience that we hope will fall in love with our sport. A strong performance in November can set up all the mega fights for him in 2020.”

Saunders’ opponent will be announced next week.

OVER SIX MILLION FANS WATCH KSI VS. LOGAN PAUL 2 PRESS CONFERENCE

KSI and Logan Paul came face-to-face for the first time to launch their rematch on Saturday – and over SIX MILLION fans have watched their press conference on YouTube ahead of their hotly-anticipated second clash at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Saturday November 9, live on DAZN.

WATCH THE PRESS CONFERENCE HERE
The YouTube sensations rivalry has been simmering since their first fight ended in a majority draw in Manchester, England in August 2018, with KSI edging out Paul on one card but the duo unable to be separate on the other two.

Now Paul welcomes KSI to Los Angeles for the rematch in two months’ time, and on a hot day in the shadow of the venue they will meet as professional fighters, the bitter foes laid out their simple plan for the rematch – get the victory by KO.

“First round KO – you don’t stand a chance,” Paul told KSI. “You know I won the last fight, this time I’m not going to leave it to the judges. KSI, do me a favor, these next 55 days are going to be the best of your life, do me a favor, soak it up. Take a break from training, because the rest of your life after Nov 9 is going to be miserable. JJ, go skydiving bro, go bake a cake, fall in love, do something fun, because your life is going to suck after November 9.

“No headgear, 10oz gloves. You made me wear headgear last year – not anymore. This is a pro fight. No-one thinks you can win this fight. No-one that watched that first fight can tell me that KSI is a better boxer, and you know you’re not. I got tired, it was my first fight and there was an adrenaline dump, but you know you don’t stand a chance. And that was when I didn’t know shit.

“Four months of boxing later, Shannon Briggs in my corner, the two-time Heavyweight champion of the world. We are working hard to end this man on November 9.”

“I’m so confident that I can win this fight that I can take a photo with Drake, post it on social media and still win!” said KSI. “Last time around he was telling everyone ‘I’m going to destroy KSI, it’s easy, one round, he sucks’, you were holding onto me for dear life in that last round. He’s the king of chatting shit. I am going in there to KO him, that’s the ultimate aim, it’s boxing.

“I know how he fights and we know what to work on. He doesn’t punch hard. He tagged me but didn’t hurt, I’ve been hit a lot harder than he can hit in sparring, by bigger guys, and still standing. My shots will be harder and my handspeed will show. I never liked the headguards, I’ve got really good head movement, I like slipping shots and making people pay, and that’s what I’m going to do on November 9.”

“This time I won’t make it so close, especially now that it’s a pro fight, no head guards and 10oz gloves hahahaha, the time to end him is nearing. I can’t wait to see the memes of him slumped on the ground after I’ve repeatedly beaten the life out of him. He’s facing a different animal this time. He will soon realize.

“Big shoutout to DAZN and Matchroom Boxing USA for hosting a monumental fight that will be in the record books whether people like it or not. November 9 is the day ‘The Nightmare’ becomes his reality.”

“I’m excited to ruin JJs face and I want to thank DAZN for giving me the platform to do so,” said Paul. “Last fight, KSI couldn’t beat me with only three months of training under my belt. For the past year, while JJ has been wasting his time trying to become a rapper, I’ve been training every single day. I’m finally getting what I wanted from the beginning – no headgear, 10oz gloves, and the opportunity to dismantle JJ’s repugnant face in Los Angeles, my home city.

“After November 9, the embarrassment of losing will eat away at KSI’s ego for the next decade; he will be afraid to show face in America. This time, I won’t leave it up to the judges.

“I’ve been a DAZN fan for a very long time, so it’s an honor to partner with DAZN and Matchroom Boxing USA for what will become the biggest combat sporting event of the year.”

“It’s an incredible and groundbreaking deal for the fighters and also DAZN,” said Liam Chivers, Managing Director & Founder of OP Talent and manager of KSI. “The deal will cover global rights, distribution, promotion and appearance commitments for the fight”.

Chivers explains “A no risk, high budget, secure platform deal had to be achieved. I wasn’t going to risk broadcast on an unstable or unsupportive platform and have cost and piracy risk put on KSI. So, spending ten months working to get the broadcaster and rights terms in place first was essential. DAZN of course also brings a top-class live sporting event production to subscribers of their service, which is part and parcel of the deal.  In addition, having the support of the world’s leading boxing promoters in Matchroom Boxing, this is a major step up and mainstream cross over. A significant deal on many levels.

“I spoke to the world’s leading platforms and top sporting broadcasters regarding the fight and what deals were possible. But after many meetings and discussions, the DAZN subscription model was clearly the best option of all and the one I therefore pursued the hardest. Subscribers to DAZN not only get this fight brought to them but an array of other great sporting events and pro fights in the same month for no additional fee. The value to fans isn’t matched anywhere else”.

“The first fight was the largest live PPV sports event in the history of the internet,” said Jeff Levin and Paolo Moreno, managers of Logan Paul. “We are excited to be partnering with the best brands in combat sports in Matchroom Boxing USA and DAZN for the rematch. STAPLES Center will be rocking on November 9.”

“13 months ago when the first fight took place I smirked and pondered how embarrassing it would be to stage this event in a 20,000 seater arena,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “What I saw was a phenomenon; a sold out arena, over one million PPV buys but more importantly an energy of a new audience to the sport of boxing.

“When I was asked to be involved in the rematch it got me excited but I had some requests to help integrate the two audiences. I requested that both fighters turn professional and undergo the same medicals that any other fighter would. I asked that the fighters lose the headguards and use 10oz gloves, if we are going to do this then let’s do it properly.

“Both men obliged and now they prepare for war on November 9 – this event will be huge, a World championship card beneath an event that will create a hype for boxing not seen in the US for a long time. STAPLES Center will be sold out and a new audience will join our great sport and tune in live on DAZN.”

“We look forward to hosting this historic night of boxing here in Los Angeles at STAPLES Center,” Lee Zeidman, President, STAPLES Center, Microsoft Theater and L.A. LIVE. “KSI vs. Logan Paul II will be incredible night of boxing and we are excited to work with Matchroom Boxing USA for the first time as we begin our 20th Anniversary year long celebration this fall.”

“DAZN is excited to team up with KSI, Logan Paul and Matchroom Boxing on such a unique event,” said Joseph Markowski, DAZN EVP, North America. “Both men have enormous fan bases and we look forward to bringing best-in-class production and programming to this new group of potential DAZN subscribers around the world.”

DAZN is the largest global sports streaming platform in the world. KSI vs. Logan Paul II will streamed live on DAZN across the world, across four continents with the service available in the United States, Canada, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Japan, and Brazil.
