Remember remember the fists of November! BoxNation leads the way with spectacular lineup of fights

Manny Pacquiao
LONDON (Oct 31) – A knockout November is set to take place on BoxNation, with the world’s number one boxing channel to feature an incredible five world title fights including names such as Manny Pacquiao, Bernard Hopkins, Dereck Chisora, Tyson Fury and many more, all for only £12.

Unlike rival networks, ‘The Channel of Champions’, has not only stacked its upcoming schedule with a host of back-to-back world class bouts but has offered fight fans a truly remarkable value-for-money deal in doing so.

BoxNation subscribers will get a little taste of what the month has to offer starting this weekend when undefeated bantamweight kingpin Tomoki Kameda puts his WBO world title on the line against battle-hardened Mexican Alejandro Hernandez.

Then, on November 8th from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, one of the most anticipated fights of the year is set to take place when Sergey ‘Krusher’ Kovalev will attempt to bring the man known as ‘The Alien’, Bernard Hopkins, back down to earth.

Hopkins story in the sport is already an extraordinary one, now, just two months shy of his 50th birthday, he will look to capitalise on his record-breaking achievements as he attempts to continue his unification of the light-heavyweight division.

Up against one of boxing’s most feared punchers, Hopkins will be aiming to strip the unbeaten Kovalev of his WBO crown as he looks to add to his WBA and IBF belts.

In a division bursting with a multitude of top names whoever emerges victorious will rightly be regarded as the undisputed number one at 175-pounds.

On November 22nd, one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world is back when the legendary Manny Pacquiao takes on the undefeated Chris Algieri with his WBO welterweight world title up for grabs.

The Filipino superstar will be the smaller man when he goes up against the skilled and rangy Algieri, who shocked the boxing world when he overcame the formidable Ruslan Provodnikov this summer.

‘The Fighter of the Decade’ Pacquiao guarantees fireworks whenever he steps into the ring and against the younger Algieri he will need to be at his best when they clash live from the Cotai Arena in Macau.

Also featuring on the card will be the sensational rising star Vasyl Lomachenko who makes the first defence of his WBO featherweight crown against Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo, following his impressive win over the highly-touted Gary Russell Jr.

Capping off a monster month is the British blockbuster heavyweight showdown between Dereck Chisora and Tyson Fury as they battle it out to see which of them will go on to challenge Wladimir Klitschko for his WBO world title.

The heavyweight scene is becoming a vibrant one once again with Chisora and Fury leading the pack as they look to usher in a new era in what has historically been boxing’s glamour division.

The card at The ExCel in London is stacked from top to bottom with a mouth-watering chief support which sees Billy Joe Saunders take on Chris Eubank Jr in a middleweight contest set to have fans on the edge of their seat.

Saunders’, British, Commonwealth and European middleweight titles will be on the line, as both young stars look to prove they are the number one emerging talent from British shores.

Furthermore, Birmingham’s exciting talent Frankie Gavin is set to challenge the undefeated hotshot Bradley Skeete with the two men aware victory will catapult them to the next level.

That same night, live from the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, the supremely skilled Terence Crawford returns following his exquisite performance over the respected Yuriorkis Gamboa, when he puts his WBO lightweight title on the line against Raymundo Beltran.

Crawford is rightfully regarded as one of boxing’s next true superstars, but Beltran has a point to prove after a highly contentious draw to Ricky Burns last year saw him lose his chance of becoming a world champion, with Crawford taking Burns’ belt six months later.

BoxNation’s November schedule is unrivalled for quality, content and value, offering sports fans a string of regular top class action over the coming month.

143 LBS! MANNY “PACMAN” PACQUIAO SHOWS FINE FORM AT FRIDAY’S MEDIA WORKOUT!

Pacquiao_Algieri_NY pc_140904_006a
GENERAL SANTOS CITY, PHILIPPINES (October 24, 2014) – Fighter of the Decade and boxing’s only eight-division world champion MANNY “Pacman” PACQUIAO put on an awesome display at his Media Workout on Friday. Members of the press from all over the Philippines crammed into his General Santos City gym to watch him work out with Hall of Fame trainer World-Famous Freddie Roach. Pacquiao, in his second reign as World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion, has been in intense training for his title defense against New York’s undefeated WBO junior welterweight champion CHRIS ALGIERI.

“Weight has never been an issue for Manny. But to have him make weight four weeks in advance of a fight is incredible – even for him,” exclaimed Roach as Manny showed off his washboard abs to everyone with a camera. “He is so motivated for his fight with Algieri. The way Manny is training he could fight for his own AND Algieri’s title on November 22!

“Being in the ring with someone as tall as Algieri may be unusual for Manny but it is far from intimidating. Sparring partners Viktor Postal, the undefeated WBC No. 1 super lightweight contender, Stan Martyniouk and Mike Jones are more than preparing Manny for his upcoming title defense. If Algieri’s camp was seeing what I’m seeing here they would be adding worry beads to the collection of power stones they wear.

“One thing about Manny, he loves turning undefeated fighters into once-defeated fighters. I expect this fight with Algieri to be one of Manny’s finest hours.”

Promoted by Top Rank® and Sands China Ltd., in association with MP Promotions, Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing, Banner Promotions and Tecate, Pacquiao vs. Algieri will take place Saturday, November 22 at The Venetian® Macao’s Cotai Arena. It will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View®, beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET / 6:00 p.m. PT.

For Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs), the lone congressional representative from the Sarangani Province of the Philippines, this marks the pound-for-pound box office monarch’s (he is credited with nearly 13 million domestic pay-per-view buys) second reign as welterweight champion. Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs), from Huntington, NY on Long Island, who has Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Management, a Masters degree in Clinical Nutrition and a Ph.D. in Upsets Inside the Ring, aspires to attend medical school once he concludes his boxing career.

As a prelude to the upcoming world championship showdown, HBO Sports will air “24/7 Pacquiao/Algieri,” an action-packed one episode, 30-minute special examining their upcoming rumble. The “24/7 Pacquiao/Algieri” special will premiere Saturday, November 8 at 1:00 a.m. (ET/PT) on HBO immediately following the live World Championship Boxing event from Atlantic City.

Mind Games: Pacquiao’s sparring partners better than Algieri? Maybe, says Roach

By Norm Frauenheim–
Pacquiao_Algieri_NYDailyNews_140905_002a
Chris Algieri is good enough to fight Manny Pacquaio, but he might not be good enough to beat some of his sparring partners.

That, at least, was Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach’s suggestion Thursday in a conference call from the Philippines where the Filipino Congressman is training in his hometown, General Santos City, for a Nov. 22 bout with Algieri in Macao.

“We’ve got some great sparring partners …I think some better than our opponent, but we’ll see,’’ Roach said.

The comment from the ever-honest Roach caused a few ripples. It begged for a follow-up and, sure enough, Roach was asked to explain.

“Sometimes, the truth hurts,’’ Roach said later in the call.

In terms of world-class credentials and experience, two of Pacquiao’s sparring partners, ex-welterweight contender Mike Jones and emerging junior-welterweight Viktor Postol, have more on their boxing resumes than Algieri, who jumped to the head of the line with a victory over Ruslan Provodnikov for a dramatic upset that complements a good back story. The New Yorker magazine portrayed the college graduate with two degrees as a real-life Rocky. It’s hard to predict whether that’s the hook that will bring cross-over fans back into the pay- per-view audience, which Pacquaio promoter Bob Arum says could be between 750,000 and 900,000 for the HBO bout.

Algieri brings something different to the table at a time when PPV customers are heading for the exits. There’s been a decline throughout 2014. Maybe, a guy, a virtual unknown a year ago, can reverse that trend. Everybody is a sucker for the guy not believed to have much of a chance. Algieri has already created his own chances by getting up from two knockdowns against the feared Provodnikov. There’s some doubt about whether he could repeat that kind of drama. Against Pacquiao, however, he’ll get that opportunity. It’s intriguing.

But, as Roach suggested, some of that intrigue is tempered by facts. Consider this: If Algieri were fighting Jones or Postol instead of Pacquiao, who would you pick? Jones beat Jesus Soto Karass twice. The unbeaten Postol (26-0) is a ranked contender at 140-pounds. His record includes victories over DeMarcus Corley and Selchuk Aydin. Combine their records, and they’re 52-2. Compare that to Algieri’s 20-0 resume. There is no comparison.

Postol and Jones, Roach said, are in Pacquiao’s camp because of their height. They are taller than Algieri, who is listed at 5-10 and looks down on the shorter Pacquiao in news conference photos. By the way, Pacquiao has been getting ripped for playing basketball in the Filipino league for the team, Kia, he coaches. Pacquaio says he won’t play again until after the fight. On the floor, however, the 5-7 Pacquaio was competing with guys bigger than even Jones and Postol. In terms of competing with much taller rivals, a few minutes on the basketball floor might have helped. But that’s another story.

Algieri’s advantage in height is a factor, especially in his ability to sustain an effective jab. But there’s more to it than that. Postol, a Ukrainian, might be a key to Pacquiao’s readiness. Above all, Algieri is a thinker. That, he says, will be his advantage. Pacquiao has been an instinctive fighter. If he gets on a roll, he’ll roll over anybody. But Algieri has taken a page out of Juan Manuel Marquez’ four-fight book on Pacquiao. Marquez disrupted Pacquiao’s instinctive rhythm. He threw different looks at him, forcing him to stop and adjust. That was just enough for Marquez to finally catch him wide open for the right hand that knocked out the Filipino in their last edition.

“I’ll make him think,’’ Algieri said Oct. 18 during a news conference at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., before Gennady Golovkin’s knockout of Marco Antonio Rubio.

Postol is also a thinker.

“He makes Manny think and that’s what Algieri will do,’’ Roach said of what might be the real truth as to why a current contender is in Pacquiao’s camp.

UNDEFEATED WBO LIGHT WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION CHRIS ALGIERI TO CALL THE PALAZZO® LAS VEGAS HOME FOR TRAINING CAMP IN PREPARATION FOR FIGHT AGAINST MANNY PACQUIAO

Pacquiao_Algieri_WSJ_140905_002a
LAS VEGAS, NV (October 17, 2014) – Beginning October 19, undefeated light welterweight world champion Chris Algieri will begin training at The Palazzo for his upcoming fight against Fighter of the Decade and defending WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao. Algieri will train in a custom gym at The Palazzo through November 13 and is giving boxing fans the ultimate opportunity – the chance to watch training sessions.

“The Palazzo has rolled out the red carpet for me,” said boxer Chris Algieri. “From the custom training room to the accommodations, I feel completely at home here and I know this training camp will prepare me for the upcoming bout against [Manny] Pacquaio at The Venetian Macao on November 22.”

On Tuesday nights while Algieri is training The Palazzo, fans will be able to hear how training is going when he speaks with The Palazzo’s very own Ken Thomson on Yahoo! Sports Radio from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The broadcast is live from Lagasse’s Stadium, giving fans an opportunity to catch a glimpse of Algieri outside of training.

On Saturdays fans will get an inside look when the doors to Algieri’s training camp are open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs), from Huntington, New York, on Long Island, has become boxing’s No. 1 story, as well as being hailed as the 21st century real-life Rocky. Over the last 22 months, Algieri, a former kickboxing champion, has elevated himself from a prospect to a world-class contender to a world champion.

After accumulating significant victories over top prospect Jose Alejo, former USBA champion Mike Arnaoutis, and highly-rated contender Emmanuel Taylor, Algieri, stepped up in his HBO® debut and challenged WBO junior welterweight champion “The Siberian Rocky” Ruslan Provodnikov on June 14. Despite suffering two knockdowns in the first round which closed his swollen right eye, Algieri, who entered the fight as a 5-1 underdog, eschewed the natural instinct to panic and resolutely stuck to his game plan, expertly using his jab and supreme athletic ability to pick apart the defending champion to claim a split decision victory and the world title.

The live, first-time airing of the fight on HBO averaged 1.1 million viewers placing it among the most-viewed fights on cable this year. In what could be a first for any professional boxer, Algieri used his purse from the Provodnikov bout to pay off his student loans. He is as much a scholar as he is a brawler. Algieri graduated from Stony Brook University with Honors in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Management and then went on to receive his Master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition from the New York Institute of Technology. He aspires to attend medical school.

The Clash in Cotai II: Pacquiao vs Algieri was announced in August 2014 with a 27,273-mile international media tour that began at The Venetian Macao and included a stop at The Venetian Las Vegas. Manny Pacquiao will defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title against Algieri, the undefeated WBO junior welterweight champion. Promoted by Top Rank® and Sands China Ltd., in association with MP Promotions, Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing, Banner Promotions, Foreman Boys Promotions, and Tecate, the world welterweight championship event will take place on Sunday, November 23 (Saturday, November 22, in the U.S.) at The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Arena.

The Venetian and The Palazzo Las Vegas will be the only resorts on the Las Vegas Strip broadcasting the fight live. With a viewing party in the Palazzo Ballroom, as well as Lagasse’s Stadium – The Venetian and The Palazzo will be the only place for fight fans to be on November 22. For more information and to purchase tickets, please go to Venetian.com or call the box office at 866-641-7469.

Pacquiao-Algieri PPV Undercard Packs Plenty of Int’l Intrigue

Shiming_DeLaRosa_140719_003a
MACAO (September 18, 2014) — World champions VASYL LOMACHENKO and JESSIE VARGAS and China’s most iconic athlete, undefeated Top-Five contender ZOU SHIMING, will be featured in exciting battles on the MANNY “Pacman” PACQUIAO vs. CHRIS ALGIERI World Welterweight Championship pay-per-view undercard. Promoted by Top Rank® and Sands China Ltd., in association with MP Promotions, Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing, Banner Promotions and Tecate, the Pacquiao-Algieri world welterweight championship event will take place Saturday, November 22, at The Venetian® Macao’s Cotai Arena, and will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View®, beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET / 6:00 p.m. PT.

Six different nations will be represented by the eight fighters on the live pay-per-view telecast.

Lomachenko, of Ukraine, will make the first defense of his WBO featherweight title against No. 1 contender and mandatory challenger Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo of Thailand. Vargas, of Las Vegas, NV., will be defending his WBA super lightweight title against former world champion Antonio DeMarco, of Mexico. Top-five contenders Zou, of China, and Kwanpichit Onesongchaigym, of Thailand, will be battling in a 12-round WBO flyweight world title elimination bout. These six gladiators boast a combined record of 142-5-3 (79 KOs) — a winning percentage of 95% and a victory by knockout ratio of 56%.

“We are very proud to present these three significant international fights on the pay-per-view undercard. Boxing is a worldwide sport and this card reflects that,” said Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum.

“I am very happy and excited to have become a world champion in my third professional fight,” said Lomachenko. “I just followed the plan for the world title fight against Gary Russell – work the body, make him fight as much as possible and then go to the head. Russell was very fast and I had to take my time. I felt I hurt him a few times and I did not feel his power at all. That was a big win for my country and I know that they enjoyed it very much.”

“My opponent, Antonio DeMarco, is a tough, rugged fighter who comes to fight,” said Vargas. “I know this will be a fight that fans throughout the world will enjoy. This is very exciting for our team to be part of an event of this magnitude. I plan on bringing my world title belt back to Las Vegas.”

“The goal to win another world championship and bring it back to Mexico are the reasons why I keep fighting and this title fight against Jessie Vargas is a great opportunity to do just that,” said DeMarco. “I am sure that Freddie Roach will have me ready to win the fight and because of our styles I am sure this fight with Vargas will be one that the fans will enjoy.”

“This will be my first time fighting in a bout that is scheduled for 12 rounds. It will be the toughest test of my skills as a professional,” said Zou. “As we all know, the boxing atmosphere in Thailand is awesome. I watched videos of my opponent’s fights where he performed fiercely and bravely. It is no surprise that he is undefeated. I respect his strength and his skills . This fight is so important because so much is at stake — most of all the opportunity to fight for the world title with a victory on November 22. I will make this the best training camp I have ever had so I can give my best performance ever.”

The greatest amateur boxer of his era and arguably of all time, two-time Ukrainian Olympic gold medalist Lomachenko (2-1, 1 KO), of Odessa, captured the vacant WBO featherweight title on June 21, winning a scintillating majority decision over the previously unbeaten Gary Russell Jr. It was Lomachenko’s third professional bout, tying him with Thailand’s Saensak Muangsurin for fewest fights to win a world title. Muangsurin won a junior welterweight title in 1975, also in his third professional fight. Russell, a former U.S. Olympian, was totally blitzed by Lomachenko, battered around the ring throughout the fight. From the outset of his professional career, Lomachenko made it known that he was ready for the best in his division. He made his professional debut in 2013 knocking out the WBO’s No. 7-rated featherweight contender Jose Luis Ramirez (24-2-2, 15 KOs) in the fourth round of a bout that was scheduled for 10. Last March, in his second professional bout, he challenged WBO featherweight champion Orlando Salido, losing a split decision to the heavier defending champion whose title had been stripped because he could not make the weight limit. Lomachenko first gained international renown by winning gold medals in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Games as a featherweight and a lightweight, respectively.

Piriyapinyo (51-1, 33 KOs), made his pro debut in 2003 and captured the Asian featherweight title the following year in just his fifth professional bout. His only blemish is a world title decision loss to the legendary defending WBA featherweight champion Chris John in 2012. He enters his second world championship fight world-rated No. 1 and riding a two-year, eight-bout winning streak, including six victories by way of knockout.

Vargas (25-0, 9 KOs), of Las Vegas, NV., will be fighting outside the U.S. for the first time in his professional career. He captured the WBA super lightweight title on the April 12 Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley Jr world welterweight title rematch in Las Vegas, winning a unanimous decision over undefeated defending champion Khabib Allakhverdiev. It was a close and competitive fight that proved Vargas’ grit as he bit down hard during the championship rounds to pull away with the victory and the world championship belt. His impressive resume includes victories over former world champions Stevie Forbes and Vivian Harris and top contenders Josesito Lopez, Lucky Boy Omotoso, Ray Narh and Lanardo Tyner. In his last fight, on August 2, Vargas successfully defended his title against undefeated contender Anton Novikov via a unanimous decision.

DeMarco (31-3-1, 23 KOs), of Tijuana, Mexico, captured the WBC lightweight championship crown on his second try, winning the vacant title with an 11th-round stoppage of top-rated contender Jorge Linares in 2011. DeMarco successfully defended the title twice during his one-year reign — both by knockout — against Miguel Roman and John Molina. Since moving up in weight, he has won three straight fights, with two of those victories coming by way of knockout. In his last fight, on August 23, DeMarco won a 10-round unanimous decision over Landro Tyner.

Zou (5-0, 1 KO), from Guizhou, China, and trained by Hall of Famer Freddie Roach, returns to ring fresh from his most impressive professional victory — a 10-round unanimous decision victory over Top-10 contender Luis De La Rosa to capture the vacant WBO International flyweight title. Stepping up to his first 10-round bout, Zou vs. De La Rosa took place on July 19 at Cotai Arena and showed the world that Zou had developed into a world title contender. Zou is currently world-rated No. 4 by the WBA, No. 5 by the WBO and No. 6 by the WBA. He won his professional debut April 6, 2013 at Fists of Gold, via a dominant four-round unanimous decision over gritty Eleazar Valenzuela. He followed that up with six-round unanimous decision victories last year over Jesus Ortega and Juan Toscano July 27 at Fists of Gold II and November 24 at The Clash in Cotai, respectively, and celebrated his 2014 debut with his first professional knockout February 22 at Ring of Gold, stopping Yokthong Kokietgym in the seventh round. All of his professional bouts have taken place at the Cotai Arena. One of the most popular Olympic athletes in China, Zou was the world’s greatest amateur light flyweight, capturing gold medals in the World Amateur Championships in 2005, 2007 and 2011, along with gold medals in the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympic Games. He also owns an Olympic bronze medal from the 2004 games, making him his nation’s first Olympic medallist in boxing as well as its first boxing gold medallist in the World Amateur Championships and the Olympics.

Onesongchaigym (27-0-2, 12 KOs), of Buriram, Thailand, made his professional debut in 2010 and captured the WBO Oriental junior bantamweight title the following year knocking out Fredirex Rodriguez in the seventh round. After one successful defense he moved down one division where he captured the WBO Oriental flyweight title in 2012, which he has held for the past two years. Six of his last 10 victories have been by knockout, including his last one, a seventh-round TKO of Oscar Raknafa on June 6, to retain his title. Onesongchaigym is currently world-rated No. 3 by the WBO.

BOXNATION SECURE SUPERSTAR PACQUIAO’S RING RETURN AGAINST UNDEFEATED ALGIERI ON EVE OF POUND-FOR-POUND KING MAYWEATHER’S MEGAFIGHT WITH MAIDANA

Manny Pacquiao
LONDON (Sep 12) – Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao’s ring return against undefeated Chris Algieri has landed on BoxNation, with the Filipino legend joining fellow pound-for-pound star Floyd Mayweather on ‘The Channel of Champions’.

The exciting news of Pacquiao’s bout comes on the eve of Mayweather’s blockbuster showdown with Argentine banger Marcos Maidana this Saturday night, live and exclusive on boxing’s undisputed number one channel.

The addition of the ‘Fighter of the Decade’ Pacquiao, however, sees boxing’s two biggest names added to an unbeatable schedule, which also features ‘The Alien’ Bernard Hopkins who is looking to continue his unification of the light-heavyweight division against the fearsome Sergey Kovalev at nearly 50 years of age.

‘Pacman’ is not expected to have things his own way when he faces Algieri, who shocked the boxing world with his masterful and courageous victory over the unrelenting Ruslan Provodnikov in June to capture the WBO light-welterweight title.

The duo will lock horns on November 22nd at the Cotai Arena in Macao, with boxing’s only eight-division world champion Pacquiao defending his WBO welterweight title against the slick New Yorker, who has a record 20 wins in 20 fights.

“You saw Algieri’s last fight against Ruslan Provodnikov. He showed his toughness and he fought good so he deserves this fight. I don’t want to underestimate my opponent,” said Pacquiao, who is coming off an impressive win over Tim Bradley.

“I have to prepare myself 100%. It’s been a while since the fans of Manny Pacquiao have seen the killer instinct like when I fought Cotto, Margarito, de la Hoya, Hatton, and that’s what I’m trying to show in this fight.

“All I can say to his team is train hard and I will train hard so that we can give a good fight and we can entertain people,” added Pacquiao.

Algieri too is in buoyant mood ahead of next month’s showdown and can’t wait to get in the ring to prove he is amongst boxing’s elite.

“We’ve got two champions fighting each other. It’s not something you see very often, especially nowadays you see a lot of guys trying to hold on to their records, hold on to their titles and we’re not afraid to fight the best,” said Algieri.

“I think we need more guys in this sport doing that who aren’t afraid to take challenges and take risks,” he said.

Jim McMunn, Managing Director at BoxNation, said: “Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are the two biggest names in boxing. They might not be sharing the ring with each other but we’re delighted that they will be sharing the same platform on BoxNation. So far all attempts to get them in the ring have failed so we’re delighted it’s BoxNation who have finally been able to bring boxing’s two biggest names together!”

Lomachenko – Piriyapinyo plus Shiming added to Pacquiao – Algieri

The televised undercard is taking shape for the November 22 Welterweight card featuring Manny Pacquiao and Chris Algiero in Macao, China.

Featherweight titlist Vasyl Lomachenko will make his first defense against mandatory challenger Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo.

Chinese Olympic Gold Medal winner Zou Shiming will fight a Flyweight elimination bout against Kwanpichit 13 Rien Express.

“When Lomachenko fought Gary Russell, it was for the vacant title, so there is a mandatory lingering around,” Top Rank vice president Carl Moretti told ESPN.com. “It’s a Thai guy, Piriyapinyo, who has an unbelievable record and went the distance with Chris John. It’s probably not a fight that makes sense in the U.S. and that the mandatory is from Thailand provides us with a good platform to get rid of the obligation and showcase what a great fighter Lomachenko is. That’s why we’re doing it on the Pacquiao card.

“The fight is agreed to, and the contracts are out. It was not difficult to make. [Piriyapinyo] just wanted a shot at the title, and you know Lomachenko will fight anyone.”

Pacquiao to Defend Title Against Undefeated Champ Algieri

Pacquiao-Algieri-8-25PC-Macau-1024-670-01

Pacquiao-Algieri-8-25PC-Macau-1024-670-02
LAS VEGAS, NV (August 25, 2014) — Boxing’s only eight-division world champion and Fighter of the Decade Congressman MANNY “Pacman” PACQUIAO will defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title against New York’s undefeated WBO junior welterweight champion CHRIS ALGIERI, who has a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Management, a Masters Degree in Clinical Nutrition and a Ph.D. in Upsets Inside The Ring. Promoted by Top Rank® and Sands China Ltd., in association with MP Promotions, Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing, Banner Promotions and Tecate, the Pacquiao vs. Algieri world welterweight championship event will take place Saturday, November 22, at The Venetian® Macao’s Cotai Arena. It will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at
9:00 p.m. ET / 6:00 p.m. PT.

Pacquiao and Algieri, will announce their world championship fight during a two-week 27,273-mile international media tour, which kicked off August 25 with a press conference at The Venetian Macao. The tour will include stops in Shanghai, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York.

“Chris Algieri fought an exceptional fight in June to win the world title from Ruslan Provodnikov,” said Pacquiao. “I am impressed and intrigued by his scientific approach to training and boxing. He may be the smartest and the fittest athlete I have ever faced and that makes him the most dangerous. I worked hard to reclaim my welterweight title and I will work harder to make sure I keep it on November 22. As always, I dedicate this fight to my fellow Filipinos around the world and to bring glory to the Philippines. ”

“It is a real honor to fight a future Hall of Famer like Manny Pacquiao and I am looking forward to being introduced to a whole new market and fan base in the Far East,” said Algieri “My last fight against Ruslan Provodnikov got the world’s attention, now I am going to show what I can really do. I have the utmost respect for Manny and his great team, but make no mistake — I am here to win and I have nothing on my mind but beating a legend.”

“I underestimated Algieri when he faced Ruslan Provodnikov in June but I won’t make that mistake again,” said Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach. “I hope he understands that this is a fight and not a marathon. Algieri is going to face the best of Manny Pacquiao because Manny is going to have his toughest training camp ever. I am looking forward to a great fight and Manny’s finest hour on November 22.”

“Over the past 14 years I have trained and watched Chris become a Master of the Art of Boxing. His hard work ethic, discipline and dedication are second to none,” said Algieri’s trainer, Tim Lane. “Chris has been in the gym after only one week off from his last bout with New York trainers Keith Trimble, Dr. Mike Camp and Tony Ricci who have kept him in great shape through the years and continue to help him get stronger and faster between and during all camps. Training camp will officially start in late September in New York and finish in Las Vegas before leaving for China. Let it be known, there is a New ERA in the world of boxing and on November 22. Chris Algieri will once again Shock the World and become the New WBO Welterweight Champion!”

“The battle between the two world champions will be a fantastic fight. Manny’s non-stop attack style will be challenged by Algieri’s laser-like punching,” said Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum.

“It has been a great year. In February we had Chris at The Paramount on ESPN, in June on HBO winning the World Championship at Barclays Center in dramatic fashion against the feared Ruslan Prodvodnikov. Now we are excited to announce that he will be at The Venetian Macao against legendary Manny Pacquiao on HBO Pay-Per-View. It has been an unprecedented meteoric rise that will continue on November 22. I look forward to this intriguing and ‘landscape-changing’ fight,” said Algieri’s promoter, Joe DeGuardia, President and Founder of Star Boxing.

“Sands China is thrilled to be bringing Manny back to Macao again to fight at the Cotai Arena this November,” said Edward Tracy, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sands China Ltd. “Since Manny’s sold-out Venetian Macao debut in November 2013, we’ve worked continuously with Bob Arum and Top Rank to host three more successful boxing cards at the Cotai Arena and two live screening events of US cards; and further, announced our partnership on the mainland China television program ‘Fist Power – Fight to Win.’ We’re happy to see these events helping promote the growth of boxing in the region while raising the profile of Macao as a world centre of tourism and leisure.”

“Against all odds, Manny Pacquiao has produced a brilliant, Hall of Fame career. He’s accepted challenges around the globe and established new frontiers, including fighting on pay-per-view from Macao,” said Mark Taffet of HBO Pay-Per-View. “Now another young, talented and unassuming prizefighter named Chris Algieri will try to defy the odds and fulfill his dreams by challenging Pacquiao for his welterweight crown. In Chris Algieri, fight fans see a great American story with added intrigue based on the heart and courage he displayed in his recent victory over Ruslan Provodnikov.”

Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KOs), the lone congressional representative from the Sarangani province in the Philippines (he was reelected to a second term, running unopposed last year), is the only fighter to win eight world titles in as many different weight divisions. A three-time Fighter of the Year and the Boxing Writers Association of America’s “Fighter of the Decade,” Pacquiao made his Cotai Arena debut last November 24, pasting former world champion Brandon Rios with a unanimous decision beatdown. Pacquiao’s resumé features victories over present and future Hall of Famers, including Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley and Juan Manuel Márquez. From 2008 to 2010, five of his seven victories were world title victories in five different weight classes, from 130 to 154 pounds. No active boxer has sold more live tickets in the U.S. than Pacquiao, who is also credited with nearly 13 million domestic pay-per-view buys. He returns to the ring after avenging his controversial 2012 split decision loss to undefeated two-division world champion Timothy Bradley, Jr. on April 12. Pacquiao won a scintillating unanimous decision to regain the WBO welterweight crown back from Bradley. .

Algieri (20-0, 8 KOs), from Huntington, NY on Long Island, has become boxing’s No. 1 story, as well as being hailed as the 21st century real-life Rocky. Over the last 22 months Algieri, a former kickboxing champion, has elevated himself from a prospect to a world-class contender to a world champion. After accumulating significant victories over top prospect Jose Alejo, former USBA champion Mike Arnaoutis, and highly-rated contender Emmanuel Taylor, Algieri, stepped up in his HBO debut and challenged WBO junior welterweight champion “The Siberian Rocky” Ruslan Provodnikov on June 14 Despite suffering two knockdowns in the first round which closed his swollen right eye, Algieri who entered the fight as a 5-1 underdog, eschewed the natural instinct to panic and resolutely stuck to his game plan, expertly using his jab and supreme athletic ability to pick apart the defending champion to claim a split decision victory and the world title. The live, first-time airing of the fight averaged over 1.1 million viewers placing among the five most-viewed fights on cable this year.

PHILIPPINE SUPREME COURT ISSUES TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER IN PACQUIAO TAX CASE

Pacquiao_Bradley_weighin_140411_006a
MANILA (August 20, 2014) – The Philippine Supreme Court issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) to stop the enforcement of the Court of Tax Appeals (CTA) ruling which ordered Saranggani Congressman Manny Pacquiao and his wife Jinkee to post a cash bond in the amount of P3,298,514,894.35 (US$74.9 Million) or a surety bond in the amount of P4,947,772,341.53 (US$112.4 Million), as a condition for suspending the collection of alleged deficiency 2008 and 2009 income tax and value added tax by the Bureau of Internal Revenue while their appeal is still being heard.
The CTA (First Division) was further ordered to proceed with CTA Case No. 8683 with “deliberate dispatch”.

The TRO is attached.

The Supreme Court likewise enjoined the BIR from issuing, executing, enforcing, implementing, or otherwise giving effect to any Warrant of Distraint and/or Levy, Warrants of Garnishment, and Notice of Tax Lien, and from attempting to collect any tax on the basis of the deficiency income tax and VAT assessments against petitioners for the years 2008 and 2009.

The TRO is to be extended “indefinitely and until further orders”.

Cong. Pacquiao and Jinkee thanked God for the welcome development in what has been a bitter dispute with the Philippine tax authorities. The couple were likewise grateful that the Supreme Court was able to urgently act on their Petition.

Cong. Pacquiao stated, “The issuance by the High Court of a TRO allows both side to have a fair opportunity to present evidence and prove their case before the CTA. I think I have said all that needs to be said in connection with the taxes I have paid in the United States and in the Philippines. Let us now let the legal process take its course. For now, I am just glad I will be able to concentrate on training for my upcoming bout in Macau.”

THOMAS DULORME EYES BOUT WITH PACQUIAO

Thomas Dulorme
NEW JERSEY (July 15, 2014) – Gary Shaw Productions world title contender, Puerto Rican star Thomas Dulorme (21-1, 14 KO’s), is available to face current WBO welterweight champion, Manny Pacquiao in November, as it seems that Chris Algieri, current WBO junior welterweight champion, may not fight Pacquiao because of money issues.

“I’m available and willing to fight the best,” said Thomas Dulorme, who currently at 140 pounds is ranked #2 by the World Boxing Association (WBA), #3 by the World Boxing Council (WBC), #4 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF), and #8 in the World Boxing Organization (WBO). “Manny Pacquiao may still be looking for a opponent in November, and if that’s the case, I’m ready. I was supposed to fight Ruslan Provodnikov but I was rejected by his team, and they instead accepted the Algieri bout. I will keep training hard in Oxnard with my trainer Robert Garcia, who believes in my talent, and we’re hoping for a great opportunity to show the boxing world what I’m made of.”

“Dulorme is well deserving of a Pacquiao fight being that he is highly ranked across the board,” said Gary Shaw. “Pacquiao vs. Dulorme would be a sensational bout that the fans would love to see. I know Dulorme is up for the challenge so we’ll see what we can do to make it happen.”

In his last bout, Dulorme captured the NABF Junior Welterweight title, when defeated former undefeated Californian, Karim Mayfield (18-1-1, 11 KOs), by unanimous decision in a HBO live televised bout on March, 29 2014.

MARQUEZ OUT TO BECOME MEXICO’S FIRST FIVE-DIVISION WORLD CHAMPION AS HE CASTS EYES ON HISTORIC FIFTH CLASH WITH PACQUIAO

LONDON (May 15) – Boxing legend Juan Manuel Marquez is determined to become Mexico’s first five-division world champion by setting up an historic showdown with Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao.

The 40-year-old great goes head-to-head with the all-action Mike Alvarado this weekend, live and exclusive on BoxNation, knowing that victory on Saturday night will propel him into a fifth meeting with his famed nemesis Pacquiao and a shot at his WBO welterweight crown.

The chance to seize yet another world title, this time at 147 pounds, offers Marquez the unique opportunity to become Mexico’s only five-division world champion, with the veteran currently alongside Mexican icons Erik Morales and Jorge Arce as a four-weight champion.

It is this goal which is keeping the experienced Marquez active as he looks to make the twilight period of his career his most glorious.

“I want to make history by winning another world title. It’s something that’s never been done [by another Mexican]. That is what I am looking forward to towards the end of my career, to win that next world title,” said Marquez.

“I think even Nacho [Beristain] will tell you that we all want to win the fifth world title. Five world titles in five weight divisions. That’s what makes us keep going,” he said.

Getting past Alvarado will be no easy feat with the Denver dynamo looking to bounce back following his defeat to WBO light-welterweight world champion Ruslan Provodnikov last October.

Marquez is refusing to overlook the 33-year-old, but is aware that a Pacquiao fight is around the corner should he prevail, a bout which will be a real test following the pound-for-pound ace’s dismantling of Tim Bradley last month.

“It is not too difficult for me [knowing I could fight Pacquiao next] because I do not look past Mike Alvarado,” said Marquez. “I concentrate only on this fight. Maybe in the future I will think about that fight but right now the most important fight of my career is against Alvarado because he is a strong fighter and a tough fighter,” he said.

“I saw the best Manny Pacquiao [against Tim Bradley]. He wants to beat everybody. I saw the best Pacquiao. Everyone knows that Manny Pacquiao is a great fighter and he is a world champion. Right now Pacquiao is back,” Marquez said.

“Pacquiao is using his feet very well. He moves in the ring. I saw the best Manny Pacquiao because he landed a lot of punches and was moving on his feet. I liked the way Manny Pacquiao fought very much.

“My thinking is first-things-first. My thoughts right now are on Mike Alvarado. If I win the fight then I will think about Manny Pacquiao. I will fight the fight on Saturday then go from there,” he said.

Marquez is at a crossroads in his career as he looks to get back to winning ways following a split decision loss to Bradley last year.

Another defeat could signal the end for hardened Mexican, though he is unsure whether he would hang up the gloves if he was to lose.

“You can’t tell [if a loss means retirement]. You go in the ring. You do the best you can – you win or you lose. Whatever happens on Saturday, you go back, take a look and analyze everything. But in my mind all I think about is winning and continuing my career,” he said.

Nevertheless, Marquez is certain that fight fans will not be disappointed when he shares the ring with the well-schooled Alvarado, as he looks to claim his 56th win in what will be a remarkable 64th fight of his career.

“Mike Alvarado uses a technique when he fights. Right now I think over the rounds and when I get by so many of his punches that he will change his technique but I trained for the best Alvarado in the ring,” he said.

“I need to use all of my experience in the ring. This fight will be a war because Alvarado likes to fight. I like to fight and he likes to fight and the fans win because they like to see these kinds of fights,” said Marquez.

Marquez vs. Alvarado is live on BoxNation (Sky 437/490HD & Virgin 546) this Sunday at 2am. Visit www.boxnation.com to subscribe.
