Conto Knocks Out Caudle in 3

PHILADELPHIA–Sonny Conto got a test for a couple of rounds, but he weathered some hard shots from Joel Caudle to knockout Caudle in round three of a scheduled six-round heavyweight bout in front of a capacity crowd at the inaugural fight card at Live Casino Hotel Philadelphia.

Caudle stood in and landed some flush shots. Conto gave as good as he received as he rocked Caudle several times over the first two rounds. In round three, Caudle continued to stand in and want to trade with the bigger Conto., but Conto landed a huge right hand that sent Caudle to the deck. Caudle got to his feet, but was wobbly, and referee Benjy Esteves stopped the fight at the end of round three.

Conto, 220.2 lbs of Philadelphia is 8-0 with seven knockouts. Caudle, 257.1 lbs of Raleigh, NC is 8-6-2.

In an entertaining contest, Christopher Burgos scored a mild upset by winning a six-round unanimous decision over Gerardo Martinez.

Burgos was able to land the more eye-catching blows in the fight, which saw each fighter take turns controlling the action.

Burgos, 138.9 lbs of Philadelphia won by scores of 59-55 twice and 58-56 and is now 3-4-1. Martinez, 138.7 lbs of Coatesville, PA is 5-2.

Daiyann Butt defeated Siefullah Wise via 3rd round disqualification in a scheduled six-round junior welterweight bout.

Wise was deducted points for holding and hitting in each of the first two rounds. Wise committed the same foul in round three, and referee Benji Esteves had seen enough and halted the action 53 seconds into round three.

Butt, 142.4 lbs of Philadelphia is 9-1. Wise, 144.6 lbs of Philadelphia is 4-7.

Jeremiah Kendrick made a successful pro debut with a opening round knockout of Tyrone Lewis in a scheduled four-round junior middleweight contest.

Kendrick landed a hard right to the head which stunned and hurt Lewis, and a follow up punch put him on the ground. Referee Shawn Clark stopped the fight upon Lewis getting to his feet at 1:05.

Bilal Quintyne needed a last second knockdown to eek out a four-round majority decision over Maurice Burke in a four-round battle of undefeated middleweights.

Burke controlled the first couple of rounds as he landed some solid right hands.

In round four, Quintyne dropped Burke with a hard right hand.

Quintyne, 159.8 lbs of Marietta, GA won by scores of 38-37 twice and 38-38 to raise his record to 2-0. Burke, 160.6 lbs of Philadelphia is 1-1.

Tariq Green made a successful pro debut with a four-round unanimous decision over Tunde Fatiregun in a light heavyweight battle.

Green, 174.5 lbs of Philadelphia won by scores of 40-36 and 39-37 twice and is now 1-0. Fatiregun, 176 lbs of New Brunswick, NJ is 1-1.




Carto decisions Rodriguez in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA–Bantamweight Christian Carto thrilled his throngs of fans by winning a six-round unanimous decision over Antonio Rodriguez at a sold-out Sugarhouse Casino.

The show was promoted by King’s Promotions.

With a rabid fan base cheering him on, Carto landed quick combinations that had the 37 fight veteran Rodriguez befuddled for most of the contest. In round two, Carto sent Rodriguez down with a body punch.

Carto continued to land hard shots, which Rodriguez showed a good chin and would occasionally get in one punch of his own. But it was Carto who was dominant in every round, and he cruised home to the victory by 60-53 scores on all cards.

Carto, 118.4 lbs of Philadelphia is 17-0. Rodriguez, 119 lbs of Durango, MEX is 13-23-2.

Poindexter Knight Jr. destroyed Travis Castellon in the 1st round of their scheduled six-round welterweight contest.

Knight landed a right hook that sent Castellon burrowing into the ropes. Knight was all over Castellon by landing a vicious combination for a knockdown. Castellon wobbled, and the fight was stopped 93 seconds into the contest.

Knight, 147.1 lbs of Philadelphia is 6-0 with three knockouts. Castellon, 149 lbs of Fort Lauderdale, FL is 16-3-1.

James Martin won an entertaining four-round unanimous decision over Denis Okoth in a battle of undefeated welterweights.

Martin dropped Okoth with a left hook in the waning seconds of round one. Okoth started working himself back in the fight, and drew even in the knockdown department in round three when he sent Martin to the deck in round three. Martin took the final frame, and won by scores of 38-36 on all cards.

Martin, 147 lbs of Philadelphia is now 3-0. Okoth, 146.1 lbs of Siaya, KEN is 2-1-1.

Frankie Trader made a successful return to the ring after a four year hiatus by stopping Pablo Capul in round two of their scheduled six-round lightweight bout.

Trader landed hard right hands and then hurt Capul with a right hand that wobbled the San Diego native. A hard flurry on the ropes forced the referee to stop the bout.

Trader, 133 lbs of Philadelphia is 11-2-1 with three knockouts. Capul, 130.2 lbs of San Diego is 10-28.

Maurice Burke made a successful pro debut with a four-round unanimous decision over fellow debuter Brandon Bey in a middleweight contest.

Bey was cut under the left eye in round two from an accidental headbutt.

Burke, 156.9 lbs of Philadelphia won on all cards by 40-36 tallies, and is now 1-0. Bey, 160 lbs of Bronx, NY is 0-1.

Mark Dawson won a six-round unanimous decision over Chukka Willis in a welterweight bout.

Dawson, 149.6 lbs of Philadelphia won by scores of 60-54 twice, and 59-55 and is now 5-0-1. Willis, 150.5 lbs of Emporia, KS is 3-7.




Maurice Burke, The Nephew of former world champion Charles Brewer, makes pro debut tonight at SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia


Philadelphia, PA (November 9, 2018) -Tonight will be a very special night for former IBF Super Middleweight champion, Charles “The Hatchet” Brewer.

Brewer’s nephew, Maurice Burke will make his pro debut when he takes on fellow debuter Brandon Bey in a four-round middleweight as part of a six-bout card promoted by King’s Promotions at SugarHouse Casino.

Burke, also of Philadelphia is excited about the opportunity to follow in the family business.

“This is a dream come true. It has been a long process going back to my amateur career. I worked very hard for this moment. I have prepared for everything, and my potential is unmatched i feel confident and strong,” said Burke, who had about 50 amateur fights.

“I have been in there with the best guys, and I fought in the Olympic Trials Qualifier. I won the State Title and everything.”

“I don’t feel any pressure following in my Uncle’s footsteps. He was one of the 1st inspirations that made me want to compete, and it makes me want to be better. It’s a beautiful thing that he will be in my corner and instill what he has to me. It’s awesome that I have someone like him. Someone that I can believe in.”

In the main event, undefeated bantamweight, Christian Carto (16-0, 11 KOs) takes on Antonio Rodriguez of Mexico.

Also seeing action will be undefeated fighters Poindexter Knight Jr. and Mark Dawson Jr. in separate bout.
