PRINCE NASEEM HAMED PREDICTS DUBOIS WILL “TAKE OVER HEAVYWEIGHT BOXING”

BOXING LEGEND Prince Naseem Hamed has confidently predicted that 22-year-old Daniel ‘Dynamite’ Dubois will “take over Heavyweight boxing”.

Speaking on the latest instalment of Frank Warren’s Heavyweight Podcast, the Sheffield icon expressed his admiration for promoter Warren’s eye for talent and spoke of the qualities that he believes make Dubois a surefire superstar.

“Frank knows how to pick the best fighters” he said, “and at the moment I think he’s got one in Daniel Dubois who I really think is going to light up the world.”

No stranger to a knockout himself, Naz added: “He has that crushing power. I love the way he fights… the way he punches to the body too.”

Despite his young age Dubois has already carved out an impressive 14-0 professional record, with 13 KO’s to his name, and has a list of boxing luminaries queuing up to praise him.

Hamed’s voice joins those of George Foreman, David Haye, Frank Bruno and Larry Holmes, amongst others, who have recently spoken of the potential for greatness in Dubois’ future.

‘Dynamite’ is next scheduled to face domestic rival Joe Joyce in a mouthwatering all-British battle that many see as a stepping stone to world title contention.

Hall-of-Fame promoter Frank Warren clearly agrees and earlier this week declared Dubois to be the “best Heavyweight prospect on Planet Earth” and sensationally backed him to be victorious in a potential shootout with Deontay Wilder.

Prince Naseem wasn’t drawn on that particular match-up but did issue an ominous warning to the Heavyweight division as a whole.

“I am looking forward to watching Daniel Dubois’ career unfold. For me, I believe he takes over Heavyweight boxing.”

Famous for his exploits in the lighter weight classes, Naz did also reveal that he is keeping a keen eye on another of Queensberry’s brightest prospects: 19-year-old Bantamweight, Dennis ‘The Menace’ McCann.

“I like Dennis. Dennis is a good fighter, definitely. I’m expecting him to be a world champion.

“For me, that’s one of the guarantees of boxing: Dennis and Daniel Dubois being world champions.”

NAZ WOULD’VE WALLOPED WARRINGTON IN THREE ROUNDS, SO I’LL DO HIM IN SIX, TAUNTS GALAHAD

KID GALAHAD has been getting tips on how to beat Josh Warrington from featherweight legend Naseem Hamed.

Mandatory contender Galahad challenges the IBF featherweight champion at First Direct Arena Leeds on Saturday June 15, after Warrington’s promoter Frank Warren won the purse bids.

Galahad (26-0, 15 KOs) was encouraged to box by Naz when he was a kid and sent him to the famous Ingle gym in Sheffield.

Now Naz is playing his part in causing the downfall of Warrington (28-0, 6 KOs), and is expected ringside on fight night supporting him.

Sheffield’s Galahad, 29, said: “I don’t want to go into too much detail, but Naz rang me, said a few things and I’ve taken them in.

“Naz would’ve loved facing someone like Josh and beaten him in no more than three rounds.

“It will last no more than six when I take Josh’s title.”

Warrington, 28, caused an upset when he won the title last May outpointing Lee Selby in front of 25,000 fans at Elland Road and in December beat Carl Frampton over 12 rounds in a classic first defence.

Galahad added: “Listen, he has two had good wins against Selby and Frampton.

“I sparred Lee when he boxed Josh and he was a completely different fighter. He was dead at the weight, but it is what is.

“I’ve got to give Josh credit and I expect him to be even better than those two performances, but I believe I am better than him in every single department.”

INTRODUCING NEWCOMER TONY BANGE: “NAZ NAMED ME ‘TNT EXPLOSIVE AFTER WATCHING ME SMASH THE PADS!

Dynamite-punching Wraysbury welter Tony Bange debuts this weekend in a four rounder against Bulgaria’s Teodor Stefanov at The Copper Box on Saturday, writes Glynn Evans.

The Berkshire bomber’s unbridled aggression and concussive punching made him a huge hit in the Eurosport-televised Queensbury Boxing League and he now threatens to wreak similar carnage operating under the jurisdiction of the British Boxing Board of Control.

‘I had 30 on the Queensberry Boxing League circuit and I never lost. I won everything. However, I had aspirations to be a boxing world champion so I had to apply for a Board (of Control) licence,’ explains the 25 year old who shall be mentored and managed by Hall of Fame superstar Naseem Hamed.

‘Naseem is a friend of my fathers and we met before my first on the Queensberry Boxing League. Naz has been like a second father to me.

‘When I contemplated going pro I said to him: ‘Please be honest. If you don’t think I can do it, tell me.’ He replied that he not only did he like what he saw, he wanted to manage me! He named me ‘TNT Explosive’ after watching me smash the pads.

‘Naz has shown me how to control a fight. He also brought in a punching specialist for me. His cousin (Anas Oweida) trains me. Naz knows the right people we need to get involved and the right route to steer me. He freely shares his knowledge and does pads with me.’

Unarmed combat has been a staple in the Hillingdon born hope’s life since his primary school years.

He recalls: ‘Dad boxed amateur and, from the age of just five or six, he taught us how us to look after ourselves. He was my coach for my first 10 years. At school, I was very cocky so I was always in a fight. I had to be able to handle myself otherwise I’d have got battered every day!

‘Then, between the ages of 14 and 17, I had 10 or 11 amateur fights at the Hayes ABC, before drifting into the unlicensed thing.

‘The experience that I gained in the Queensbury Boxing League will certainly help me with regard to performing before a crowd. Also, there were plenty of ex pros on that circuit. I once beat Daryl Setterfield. There was a time when I used to fight up at cruiserweight so no welterweight is going to scare me. I’m used to being hit hard by big men.’

Whilst there are unquestionably a few rough edges that still require planing before he can contemplate title fights, the savage Sikh insists he’ll not be caught short with regard to application.

Boxing is my life, it’s all I do,’ he says.

‘I train three times a day, cardio first thing, boxing gym during the day then a strength and conditioning session before I go to bed. In between, the only TV that is on in my house is BoxNation. I particularly study the older stuff; the Tyson era, the Naz era, the Masters!’

After the disappointment of a false dawn when the proposed Harrow bill was scrapped earlier this month, banger Bange can’t wait to fly out of the traps and showcase his explosive wares on Saturday. And he enters with the incentive that an impressive showing should secure a berth on Vijender Singh’s homecoming show in India this June.

‘My family originates from the Punjab – I was there myself six months ago – so a slot on the bill in Delhi would be unbelievable,’ he admits.

But first he is promising capital fight fans a debut to savour.

‘Stylewise, I’m told I’m similar to Mike Tyson, lots of head movement and serious power in both hands. It all comes through timing and I love to work the body. In my last ‘unlicensed’ fight they had to stretcher the guy out the ring after I broke his ribs,’ he states.

‘I don’t still want to be boxing after the age of 30 so it’s going to be a quick ride, smash and grab! This year is all about building a platform and getting my name out there. I’m exciting. Just you wait and see.’

PRINCE NAZ: ‘BANGE CAN BANG’

Hall of Fame legend Prince Naseem Hamed has backed his explosive Wraysbury welterweight prodigy Tony Bange to make a name for himself as the division’s hottest property.

Bange, 25, goes by the nickname of TNT due to his ferocious punching power and will be looking to light up the welterweight division with his all-action style of boxing; starting with his professional debut at the Copper Box Arena against Teodor Stefanov on Saturday 30th April, exclusively live on BoxNation.

Hamed, regarded by many as the most entertaining boxer Britain has ever produced, has likened Bange to former undisputed world heavyweight champion ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson and says his man has what it takes to reach the very top of the fight game.

Hamed said, “One of the things that I’ve seen him do really well is emulate Mike Tyson. I’ve always loved watching Mike Tyson; for me he’s possibly the best heavyweight that has ever lived. I’m talking about Mike Tyson at the age of 20 to 22, I couldn’t see anybody beating him in any era,”

“I watched Tony mimic Mike Tyson by trying certain moves and throwing certain punches. He pulls off really well and I told him if he can do that in a fight then people are going to love watching him because everyone loved watching Mike Tyson in the early days,”

In a professional career which spanned ten years, Prince Naz held the WBC, IBF, WBO and lineal featherweight titles, as well as the European bantamweight title. If anyone can spot potential greatness then it’s Naz and the born entertainer has tipped Bange to become a future champion.

He said: “Do I think he’ll win titles? I think he will win titles. I’m hoping with the help of Frank and the family there’s a good chance that his career can go the right way and he’ll fight the right fights at the right time and do really well. God willing he is one to look out for in the future.”

Hotshot Bange first caught the eye of Hamed when he was working out on the pads with trainer Anas Oweida and the Wraysbury man impressed the former champ so much that he decided to take him under his wing.

He said: “He was training with Anas and I noticed that he had a hell of a lot of explosive power; real concussive power. I remember thinking that whoever he hits is going to get properly knocked out. Obviously he’s just starting out and in anyone’s eyes on paper he’s a novice but he’s not, he’s experienced beyond his years.”
