ROCKIN’ FIGHTS 41 RESULTS: SOLD OUT PARAMOUNT THRILLS

Long Island, New York (March 20, 2022) — A sold out Paramount was draped in Ukrainian flags from the rafters to ringside as a prideful OLEH “UKRAINE PITBULL” DOVHUN (now 14-0 5KO’s) made his first defense of his NABA Super Bantamweight title against gritty Belgium bruiser GERAM ELOYAN in an absolutely grueling 10 round main event.

Dovhun garnered the energy of his throngs of Ukraine supporters, starting fast and strong dictating the action. His impressive work rate continued through the first three rounds when a clash of heads caused a cut over his left brow. The fourth round saw the fight turn into a grueling bloody battle of wills. Dovhun’s work rate continued to impress but Eloyan was finding a home for his left hook. In the 6th round, Eloyan buzzed Dovhun with a hard left, but Dovhun returned fire with an eight punch combination. Eloyan (now 7-3 6 KO’s) came on strong in the back half of the battle but it would prove to be too little too late as Dovhun, maintaining an extraordinary work-rate, defended his title and took home a split decision by scores of 96-94 (Dovhun), 97-93 (Eloyan), 97-93 (Dovhun).

In the 8 round co feature, TYRONE “PRETTY BOY” JAMES (now 12-0 9KO’s) returned to the Paramount after nearly 3 years out of the ring caused by the COIVD-19 hiatus and Tommy John surgery on his elbow due to a torn UCL. James opposed New Haven’ veteran JIMMY “QUIET STORM” WILLIAMS (now 18-7-2 6KO’s) for the vacant ABO North American Super Welterweight Title.

Williams, fresh off his upset over former world champ Yuri Foreman, controlled the pace early forcing James to fight off his back foot. In the second round, a James counter right impressed the crowd even though Williams continued to press the action. James appeared to be shaking off the ring rust while working off the back foot and began to find his timing. Midway through the fourth round James landed a picture perfect counter right over a lingering jab of Williams, blasting Williams into the ropes. Williams was hurt, and James unleashed in the corner, throwing power punches with blazing speed and accuracy in an impressive onslaught. The barrage of punches forced the referee to stop the fight as a wobbling Williams tried to stay upright on very shaky legs. With the TKO victory James was crowned the new ABO North American Champion.

WENDY “HAITIAN FIRE” TOUSSAINT (now 13-1 6KO’s) wasted no time getting back to his winning ways, eating up TRAVIS GAMBARDELLA (now 7-2-2 3KO’s). Toussaint landed a hard right midway through the first round, and then unleashed a vicious seven punch combination while tracking Gambardella into the ropes before landing the final blow causing the referee to step in and stop the action.

Brooklyn’s KAMRON HUMPHREY (now 3-0 2KO’s) bested Bronx native LOUIS MAIETTA (now 1-1-1) via a 2nd round TKO in the scheduled 4 round bout.

ISAAH FLAHERTY (now 3-0 2KO’s) and ANGELO THOMPSON (now 0-1) went to battle over their 4 round super welterweight contest with Flaherty coming out on top by unanimous decision in a fan friendly, entertaining scrap.

“The fans came early and stayed late for another exciting “Rockin’ Fights” at the Paramount” said Star Boxing CEO JOE DEGUARDIA. “I was humbled and impressed with all the Ukrainian flags and fans. Their unity in traveling to support Oleh Dovhun in his grueling and gutsy title fight defense was truly inspiring. It was also nice to see Tyrone James shine after his surgery with an explosive stoppage in a true step up fight. Thank you to ALL the fighters, their teams, my staff, the Paramount and the fans who continue to impress me every show. Looking forward to be back in June at the Paramount for “Rockin’ Fights” 42!”

FROM UKRAINE TO THE US: THE OLEH DOVHUN STORY

Long Island, New York (March 10, 2022) – Long before he was a NABA Champion, and #6 world rated (WBA) super bantamweight OLEH DOVHUN (13-0 5KO’S) was just a kid growing up in in the western Ukraine city of Stebynk. With a population of about only 20,000, Dovhun enjoyed a peaceful upbringing in his small town religious home, alongside his mom, dad and older brother. This small-town boy soon became fascinated with the sport of boxing – a journey that has led him to Long Island, New York for this upcoming title defense on March 18 on Star Boxing’s renown “Rockin’ Fights” series at The Paramount.

While in elementary school, Dovhun became friends with a fellow student who had begun to fight amateur bouts. “He would get a lot of attention from other students who were interested in him because he was boxing,” said Dovhun, “I wanted that attention too!” he said while laughing. At the age of 10, Dovhun made true to his promise, and began boxing.

Nearly thirteen years later, Dovhun’s schoolyard attention ploy transformed into his livelihood, amassing approximately 250 amateur bouts while traveling throughout much of Europe and Asia to compete. From the Ukraine, to Khazakstan, the Philippines to China, Dovhun was able to see the world as an amateur boxer. While on its face it seemed glorious for the small town Ukraine kid to travel the globe doing what he loved, like most in boxing, his journey did not come without major sacrifice.

“I was in the middle of competing as an amateur in the World Series of Boxing in 2016 when my grandmother passed away a few days before my fight. Not only was I depressed leading into the fight, but I had broken my thumb during the fight – but I dug deep and still won!” said Dovhun reminiscing on one of his toughest moments as a boxer.

In 2017, alongside fellow Ukraine native and future Star Boxing stablemate Lyubomyr Pinchuk (14-2-1 8KO’s), Dovhun took a leap of faith and left the Ukraine for greener pastures in the United States hoping to turn pro with world title aspirations. Finding his way to Pittsburgh, Dovhun teamed up with Mike McSorley of Conn-Grebb Boxing Club to try and make that dream a reality. Fast forward to today and Dovhun is well on his way. Dovhun holds an undefeated record of 13-0 (5KO’s), is the current NABA Super Bantamweight Champion, and is rated #6 in the World by the WBA. Dovhun is focused on the ultimate prize: “I am going to beat Murodjon Akhmadaliev in 2022 and become the WBA Champion of the World!”

Nearing his ultimate goal of becoming a World Champion, what advice would Dovhun tell his younger 10-year-old Ukrainian self? “Work hard and believe in yourself at all times. Always focus and follow your dreams.”

Originally Dovhun was set to defend his NABA title against fellow undefeated super bantamweight Michel Da Silva (13-0 12KO’s), but the fight was moved due to visa issues. Stepping up for the challenge will now be Belgian bruiser GERAM ELOYAN (7-2-1 6KO’S) as Dovhun seeks to remain undefeated in his NABA title defense next Friday (3/18) at “Rockin’ Fights” 41.

MARCH 18 “ROCKIN’ FIGHTS” 41 FEATURE ATTRACTION:BATTLE OF UNDEFEATED PROSPECTS IN NABA CHAMPIONSHIP

Long Island, New York (February 9, 2022) – The 41st edition of “Rockin’ Fights” is around the corner and Star Boxing is pleased to announce a championship featured attraction on March 18 as Ukraine born, Pittsburgh based, OLEH “THE UKRAINIAN PITBULL” DOVHUN (13-0 5KO’s) will defend his NABA super bantamweight title against Brazilian banger MICHEL “BABU” DA SILVA (13-0 12KO’s).

27-year-old southpaw, Oleh Dovhun challenged for the vacant NABA title in November of 2021 against the dangerous, Glenn Dezurn (then 14-2-1 10KO’s) of Baltimore, Maryland. Over the 10 rounds, Dovhun took Dezurn to school, out boxing him to a clean sweep unanimous decision (100-90 x3), utilizing an uppercut and maintaining precision distance to control the action in its entirety. With the decisive victory, Dovhun was crowned NABA champion and earned the #6 World Rating by the WBA.

“I know that the WBA World title is within my reach, and it will be mine” said Dovhun. “I am coming to New York to make a statement and hope my American and Ukrainian supporters will be proud! A big thank you to my team Mike McSorley and JJ Richardson and my promoter Joe DeGuardia for this opportunity!”

NABA title challenger and Brazilian banger, Michel Silva packs a mighty punch. He has made a name for himself in his native Brazil with a 92% knockout ratio as 13 men have opposed Silva, however only one has made it the distance. Get in the ring with “Babu” and the chances are you’re in for an early night. An emphatic victory over an undefeated Dovhun will firmly plant Silva in the conversation at 122 lbs.

Silva understands the opportunity in front of him, “My opponent is undefeated. I’m undefeated too. I know it will be an epic fight! A huge thank you to my promoter Joe DeGuardia and Star Boxing for this long-awaited opportunity. I cannot wait! LET’S GO! Also, a big thank you to my manager (MT Management) Marcel Tshiyoyo!”

“There is nothing more admirable in the sport of boxing than two undefeated prospects putting their undefeated records on the line in an effort to be great,” said Star Boxing CEO, JOE DEGUARDIA “I commend both Dovhun and Silva for taking this fight and leading the way for what will be an exciting card from top to bottom.”

PITTSBURGH BASED UKRAINIAN OLEH DOVHUN DOMINATES IN NABA SUPER BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE VICTORY

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (November 16, 2021)

Undefeated super bantamweight OLEH “UKRAINIAN PITBULL” DOVHUN (13-0 5KO’s) made the most of his opportunity Saturday night in Pittsburgh, thoroughly dominating power punching Baltimore native, GLENN DEZURN (then 14-2-1 10KO’s) for the NABA Super Bantamweight Title.

In an important crossroads bout between two fighters on the precipitous of moving into world contender status, Dovhun and Dezurn went to battle in front of the Ukrainian filled crowd at the Cathedral Room at St. Nicholas in Pittsburgh. From the opening bell, Dovhun controlled the action with superior footwork and pinpoint accuracy. Finding success with a straight left and right uppercut, Dovhun continued to keep Dezurn off balance and in retreat.

In the fourth of the scheduled ten round title bout, Dezurn attempted to turn the momentum and launched an aggressive attack on Dovhun. Dezurn’s aggression caused a clash of heads leaving a cut under the left eye of Dovhun. Unfazed by the cut with full focus on the NABA Title at stake, Dovhun continued to pick off Dezurn with a slew of combinations that left the power punching Dezurn unable to answer. Dovhun stayed sharp and consistent throughout the fight and won the NABA Super Bantamweight Title by a clean sweep unanimous decision (100-90 3x). Now, at 26 with an undefeated professional record of 10-0, Dovhun, made the move to Pittsburgh, PA and has been training out of the Conn-Greb Boxing Club under trainer MICHAEL MCSORLEY. “Oleh is the slickest fighter I have ever worked with,” said McSorley, “he is hard to hit and punishes you at obscure angles.” Through 10 fights, Dovhun’s marquee win came in March of 2019 when he defeated then undefeated prospect Daron Williams (then 7-0 4KO’s) for the ABF Super Bantamweight Title.

The 24 year old prospect fought 6 times in 2019, winning the ABF Cruiserweight Title, and defending it three times in the same year. In July of 2019, Pinchuk defeated then undefeated prospect Johnnie Langston (then 7-0 3KO’s) by decision for the ABF Continental America’s Cruiserweight Title. Trainer Michael McSorley said this about Pinchuk, “Pinchuk is a throwback fighter who is a fearless and relentless terminator. He is a punishing counter puncher.” Pinchuk who tries to emulate himself after his favorite fighter, heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, will now be campaigning at heavyweight heading into the second half of 2020.

Star Boxing CEO JOE DEGUARDIA had this to say about the signing of Dovhun and Pinchuk, “I am very excited to add Oleh and Lyubomyr to the talented stable we have at Star Boxing. Oleh is an exciting fighter in a hot 122 lb. division, and Lyubomyr is a good prospect in a hot heavyweight division. With their skill set, we know with the right opportunities both Oleh and Lyubomyr will prove they belong in the ring with the elite in their respective divisions. I look forward to working with them and for what is to come.”
