SHEIKA – FERRANTE FIGHT OF YEAR CANDIDATE NOW AVAILABLE ON GFL

CLICK TO ORDER THE FIGHT
CHESTER, PA (March 1, 2012)—This past Friday night at Harrahs in Chester, PA, Omar Sheika scored a ten round unanimous decision over Tony Ferrante in a bout that many are already hailing as a Fight of the Year candidate.

That bout plus a full five bout undercard is now available on www.gfl.tv for just $9.99 by clicking: http://www.gfl.tv/Events/Fight/Boxing/Joey_Eye_Presents_Fight_Night_Ferrante_vs_Sheika/1395

Sheika and Ferrante took turns landing hard shots which thrilled the crowd at Harrahs. Ferrante jabbed very well early and was able to land some hard uppercuts. Sheika got through with right hands. The bout was a battle of geography as Ferrante had much success by keeping Sheika pinned up against the ropes while Sheika performed well in the middle of the ring.

Sheika too control in the middle round by landing some furious combinations. With both fighters faces showing the signs of a war, Sheika landed a crunching blow in round nine that snapped the head of Ferrante back. Somehow Ferrante was able to recover and get some work done at the end of the round. Ferrante came back to have a strong round ten but it was not enough to offset an earlier damage done inflicted by Sheika which included an earlier knockdown.

In the exciting co-feature, Naim Nelson remained undefeated with a close six round majority decision over Linwood Hurd.

This was a bout in which each fighter had solid moments but it was the more solid punching of Nelson that seemed better in the judges’ minds over the volume of Hurd.

Local favorite Jamie Campbell scored a four round unanimous decision over Lonnie Kornegay in a battle of hard hitting Heavyweights.

Fred Jenkins Jr. survived a spirited effort over late-replacement John Michael Terry to eek out a four round unanimous decision in a Light Heavyweight bout.

Tyrone Crawley Jr. made a successful pro debut with a four round unanimous decision over Hamid Robinson.

In a battle of pro debuters, Danny Mills scored the only knockout of the evening when he took out Michael Haines in a Middleweight bout.

This terrific night of boxing was promoted by Joey Eye Boxing & David Feldman.

WILSON OUTLASTS SHEIKA IN A WAR TO WIN USBA CRUISERWEIGHT CROWN –WATCH IT NOW ON DEMAND ON GFL

CLICK TO ODER THE EXCITING FIGHT CARD
ATLANTIC CITY / NEW YORK (April 24, 2011)—This Past Saturday night at The Caesars Palladium Ballroom, Garrett Wilson won the USBA Cruiserweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Omar Sheika.

That result alone doesn’t tell the story as the two waged a back and forth war that had the capacity crowd at Caesars on their feet for the better part of the twelve rounds.

That fight plus six other action packed fights can now be seen on-demand on www.gfl.tv for just $9.99 by clicking: http://www.gfl.tv/Events/Fight/Boxing/Sheika_vs_Wilson__USBA_cruiserweight_title/1000

Wilson was terrific all night as he landed some booming rights and hard jabs from the outset.

The product of Wilson’s work showed early as Sheika was bleeding from his right eye as early as round two. Wilson controlled the early rounds but you could that if he was to win this belt he would have to earn it.

The two continued to pound each other with Wilson getting the advantage and cutting the left eye of Sheika in the middle rounds.

Every time Sheika looked to be turning the fight around, it was Wilson landing shots out of the corner that quickly turned the tide in his advantage.

The last part of the fight was fast and furious as a desperate Sheika was banking on the one shot that would turn it around. There were a few instances where it looked like that was going to happen but Wilson not only weathered the storm but continued to pile up the points on his to get the victory.

Along with winning the coveted USBA belt, Wilson will most likely receive a favorable world ranking by the IBF and big fights will be on the horizon for the fighter so correctly dubbed “The Ultimate Warrior”

For Sheika it looks to be the end of the line for Paterson, New Jersey native as he had a terrific career by competing for the Super Middleweight championship of the world four times and fighting many memorable bouts.

“This was a war and fans who saw this and will be able to view this on gfl.tv are in for a treat”, said ringside Blow by Blow commentator, Marc Abrams of www.gfl.tv

“I have broadcasted over seventy shows and this was the most entertaining fight to call and I consider it a privilege to be able announce a great fight like that”

In the co-feature, rising Jr. Welterweight Ronald Cruz became the first man to stop Manuel Guzman in twenty fight by scoring a stoppage after round three of their scheduled eight round bout.

It was a close three round with both guys getting in some good shots before an arm injury shut down Guzman for the night.

Cruz, who is one of the fastest up and coming prospects in the country, is now 12-0 with nine knockouts.

Bryant “By By” Jennings kept his record perfect by scoring three knockdowns en route to a stoppage after the second round over David Williams in a battle of Philadelphia based Heavyweights.

Much like Cruz, Jennings is starting to garner buzz as his record now reads 7-0 with four knockouts.

Fans can also enjoy a terrific back and forth battle between debuting Korey Sloane and Edgardo Torres.

The two exchanged heavy shots throughout their four round Jr. Welterweight bout.

Those are just four of the seven bouts fans can see from this “Cant-Miss” night of boxing that was promoted by Hall of Famer, J Russell Peltz and Peltz Boxing.

Sheika, 34, scored a fourth-round knockout over Wilson on Mar. 26, 2010, in Hamilton Township, NJ. Wilson, unknown at the time, started fast, won the first round, but played to the crowd, stood and danced between rounds in his corner, then slowly ran out of gas and ideas. The fight turned late in the second round when Sheika found his range and Wilson’s body. By the fourth, it was over.

After that, Skeika (30-10, 21 K0s) knocked out Jim Strohl, of Las Vegas, NV, again in Hamilton Township, then lost a 10-round decision to world-rated Romanian light-heavyweight Adrian Diaconu, in Montreal, Canada.

A pro since 1997, Sheika remains one of boxing’s most exciting fighters. He has wins over Simon Brown, Glen Johnson and James Butler and he fought for world titles four times as a super middleweight, losing to Joe Calzaghe, Eric Lucas, Jeff Lacy and Markus Beyer.

Sheika has been a popular performer on television and was in Fight-of-the-Year candidates with Scott Pemberton (twice) and Thomas Tate and he also boxed Roy Jones, Jr.

Though Sheika has been campaigning as a light-heavyweight, the rematch with Wilson will be at a catch-weight of 185 pounds.

Wilson, 28, calls himself the “Ultimate Warrior” for his willingness for take on the best any time, any place. He has come a long way since losing to Sheika.

Though he dropped a six-round decision in his next fight to lefty Julio Cesar Matthews, of Reading, PA, Wilson has been climbing the ladder.

He knocked out fellow-Philadelphian Reshawn Scott in one round, then held Andres Taylor, (then 16-1-1) to an eight-round draw in Taylor’s backyard of Johnstown, PA.

Wilson followed with his most impressive showing when he came from behind to knock out Aaron Williams, (then 20-2-1) in seven rounds in what was supposed to be a Mayfield Heights, OH, homecoming for Williams.
A pro less than three years, Wilson is 9-5-1, 4 K0s, and eager to stay in the fast lane.
