HAMZAH APPROACHING RIVER CROSSING

HAMZAH SHEERAZ WILL bid to add the Commonwealth middleweight title to his WBC Silver belt when he takes on the highly-rated River Wilson-Bent at the 02 Arena on November 26, live on BT Sport.

Zach Parker vs John Ryder tops the bill at the popular Greenwich venue, with Dennis McCann (against Joe Ham) and Sam Noakes (against Calvin McCord) also fighting for Commonwealth titles on the night at super bantamweight and lightweight respectively, while Pierce O’Leary takes on Emmanuel Mungandjela with the WBC International super lightweight title at stake.

Along with the Commonwealth title, Sheeraz (16-0, 12 KOs), 23, will be making a first defence of his WBC Silver title he won last time out by defeating Francisco Emanuel Torres via a fifth round stoppage. He previously won the WBC International Silver title with a defeat of Jez Smith and is a former holder of the WBO European title at super welterweight.

Wilson-Bent (13-1-1, 6) enjoyed a perfect run in the professional ranks until coming up against forthcoming British title challenger Tyler Denny. Their first encounter in November of last year ended up as a draw on the scorecards following an epic English title battle, before Denny prevailed in the rematch via a split decision.

The 28-year-old has previously won and defended the Midlands Area title against unbeaten opponents in Troy Coleman and George Farrell and recently returned to winning ways with a fifth round stoppage of Ben Thomas.

Promoter Frank Warren commented: “This is going to be some night of boxing! We’ve now got four major domestic title fights on the bill, with all of them near enough even-money. This is a show tailor-made for British fight fans.

“We explored a number of options when it came to choosing an opponent for Hamzah. He is still pretty new to the weight division, with having just two fights at 160lbs, so we determined that a tough domestic test will serve him best at this stage.

“River has fought on one of our Birmingham shows previously, so we know his quality and also know that he will view this as a breakthrough opportunity and will give it his absolute everything.

“This is the sort of examination Hamzah needs and I feel certain it will be a competitive and entertaining fight on what is already an exciting card. Having the Commonwealth title on the line is a big bonus and the winner will be firmly in line for a shot at the British title.”

COVENTRY ACE WILSON-BENT AIMING FOR BIG BOXING-FOOTBALL DOUBLE FOR THE CITY

Coventry, UK (8 November 2021) Coventry sensation River Wilson-Bent wants to complete the first part of a dream double and parade the English title on the pitch at Coventry City and he got a taste of it last Saturday when he made a half-time pitch appearance during the Bristol City game.

The all action and hard-hitting middleweight faces Tyler Denny for the vacant belt in front of a packed Skydome crowd, live and free on Channel 5 as part of Hennessy’s All-Stars Show on Saturday, November 13.

Wilson-Bent is a huge Coventry City fan and with the side riding high in the Championship and the club back in their own stadium after two spells in exile, he wants to bring boxing and football together, on the back of what will be his first national title.

He was invited to attend the Coventry-Bristol game as a guest of the club to show their support ahead of his English title challenge and watched them win 3-2 on the day. River has also been offered the chance to return and show off his belt – providing he overcomes his tough Midlands rival.

Wilson-Bent said: “This is definitely a 50-50 fight. We were both good amateurs and now we’ve both turned pro, Tyler has a bit more experience than me, but that’s it. I am 100% the better fighter.

“It won’t be easy but when I win the plan will be to get out on the centre of the pitch with that English title, in front of all those Cov fans. That would be thriving. It’s just brilliant exposure.

“There are no two sports that are as close to each other than boxing and football and their supporters, so it would be great to get all the Cov fans behind me. There is no reason I can’t get the whole city behind me.”

The second part of Wilson Bent’s double would bring even more coverage to Coventry, with the Sky Blues literally playing centre stage.

The hard-hitting 27-year-old knows winning the English belt should lead to a crack at the coveted British title, currently held by the unbeaten Felix Cash (14-0, 10 KO’s).

As a teenager he also spent a couple of years working at Coventry City as a chef, before realising it was too hot, so had to get out of the kitchen to focus on his boxing.

But now, with the football club sitting in a play-off position, winning promotion back into the Premier League for the first time since 2001, would make the Coventry Building Society Arena (CBS) the perfect platform to go to work again and cook up a treat for the whole city.

He added: “Imagine fighting at the CSB? I would love that. Imagine packing that out? We’re seeing more and more stadium fights, but at the ground you go to to watch your team play?

“My daughter will always be the number one highlight of my life but boxing there, in front of all those Cov fans, wouldn’t be far behind. I’ve talked before about carrying the British title out there, but to fight out there would be amazing.

“Cov can do their part and go up, of course. But if I can add to that and even just win the British title, it would bring even more communities together. It really would put the whole city on the map.”

Shakan Pitters v Reece Cartwright for the Vacant WBC International Light-Heavyweight Championship headlines the triple-title card that includes a fiery midlands derby between Coventry hot-shot River Wilson-Bent against Rowley Regis rival Tyler Denny for the Vacant English Middleweight Championship. Red hot Irish middleweight sensation Aaron ‘The Silencer’ McKenna will challenge for his first championship title. Aaron’s joins older brother Stevie ‘The Hitman’ McKenna who is lighting up the welterweight division with his dynamic and KO performances and faces Ghanaian hitter Richard Djarbeng over eight rounds. The rest of the Hennessy All Stars team will be out in full force starting with welterweight ace Kaisee Benjamin against Germany Andreas Maier over eight rounds; Birmingham super-middleweight Idris Virgo takes on France’s Gregory Trenel in an eight rounder; Sevenoaks highly talented super-welterweight Michael Hennessy Jr.; undefeated County Donegal middleweight starlet Brett McGinty; unbeaten Brighton heavyweight destroyer Tommy Welch meets Bulgarian Kristian Kirilov over four rounds. Lastly two new additions to the card, Leamington Spa lightweight Danny Quartermaine and Chelmsley Wood lightweight Scott Melvin, both in separate four round contests.

Presented by Hennessy Sports in association with William Hill, Infinitum, Numan and Everlast, tickets are priced at £45, £55, £90 and £120 and are available from https://iceaccount.co.uk/wbc-championship-boxing-info

SPECIAL TALENT BENT HEADS UP COVENTRY BOXING REVIVAL

Coventry, UK (26 October 2021) Big-hitter River Wilson Bent can’t wait to prove Coventry is anything but a Ghost Town by lifting the English title in the hometown of iconic band The Specials.

The marauding middleweight takes on Tyler Denny for the vacant 160 pound title at the Coventry Skydome Arena on Saturday, November 13, on the Hennessy All-Stars show, live and free on Channel 5

Bent’s showdown with Denny will be the 11th fight of his pro career but he knows winning the English belt will shoot him straight up Britain’s boxing charts like The Specials who recently hit number two in the vinyl albums chart with Protest Songs 1924-2012.

The legendary band from Coventry created the culturally ground-breaking 2-Tone sound, produced two number one hits and have recently finished touring more than 40 years after changing the British music scene with their unique blend of ska and punk music.

And Bent’s promoter Mick Hennessy is heavily investing in the boxing revival in Coventry by promoting at the Skydome Arena and bringing in Channel 5 cameras to the city with the aim of turning all-action hero Bent into a world champion

Exhall’s Bent, the former Midlands Area Champion, said: “I’ve lived in Coventry all my life and boxing hasn’t been thriving for a while, but it is now. I don’t think we’ve had that since people like Neil Simpson and Dean Pithie.

“But we are getting a new generation coming through and I am making the first stamp. The English title is the perfect step towards the British.

“I walk into one of the football songs, In Our Coventry Homes and We Live and Die in These Towns by another Coventry band, The Enemy, but I might do a little edit, who knows.

“Everyone in Coventry knows The Specials and what they’ve done. They all still talk about them and even the younger generations like me, know this is the home of 2-Tone. I don’t mind a bit of it, either.

“There will be a brilliant atmosphere at the Skydome. Expect fireworks. It will be like the city at 2the moment, buzzing.

“As for that one song, that was about the old Coventry. It’s nothing like that now. Coventry is no Ghost Town, I’m telling you!”

Bent (10-0, 5 KO’s) sees this English title scrap as a “genuine 50-50 fight” and readily admits that 32-year-old Denny (13-2-2) has more experience as a professional.

But with a huge home support behind him the 27-year-old expects to be much too young and have too much for his foe as he looks to do what The Specials last did in 1989 and reach number one in the UK.

He added: “Tyler boxed for the English title twice now and has lost both times, so it is going to be third time unlucky for him. It’s his last chance to get anywhere, so he will give it his all.

“This will move me in the right direction. I could’ve gone for one of those international belts but really I am chasing the British, so the English and win this and hopefully I become the mandatory.

“That’s the next step on my ladder so this is a very, very important fight. And I am going to win it.”

Aaron’s joins older brother Stevie ‘The Hitman’ McKenna who is lighting up the welterweight division with his dynamic and KO performances. The rest of the Hennessy All Stars team will be out in full force starting with Brixton cruiserweight ace Isaac Chamberlain, welterweight ace Kaisee Benjamin, Birmingham super-middleweight Idris Virgo; Sevenoaks highly talented super-welterweight Michael Hennessy Jr.; undefeated County Donegal middleweight starlet Brett McGinty and unbeaten Brighton heavyweight destroyer Tommy Welch.

Presented by Hennessy Sports in association with William Hill, Infinitum, Numan and Everlast, tickets are priced at £45, £55, £90 and £120 and are available from https://iceaccount.co.uk/wbc-championship-boxing-info

TRIPLE TITLE MIDLANDS MAYHEM FEATURING PITTERS, BENT, McKENNA AND THE HENNESSY ALL STARS

Coventry, UK (16 October 2021) Promoter Mick Hennessy will stage a triple-header thriller on Saturday 13th November at the Coventry Skydome Arena featuring stars Shakan Pitters, River Wilson-Bent and Aaron McKenna in Championship action plus his stable of Hennessy All Stars, exclusively live and free on Channel 5 in the UK and Ireland.

Presented by Hennessy Sports in association with William Hill, Infinitum, Numan and Everlast, tickets are priced at £45, £55, £90 and £120 and an on-sale announcement will be made next week.

Hennessy returns to the Skydome after staging the thrilling Sam Eggington-Bilel Jkitou all-out war last month that has been hailed as the best fight on these shores in recent memory. Whilst that fight will be very hard to top, the top line up of talent will look to bring their own brand of entertainment on the night.

Birmingham’s Former British Light-Heavyweight Champion Pitters (16-1-0, 5) squares off against Leeds puncher Reece Cartwright (23-1-0, 14) with the Vacant WBC International Light-Heavyweight Championship on the line.

‘Big Shak’ receives a golden opportunity to get a belt around his waist again after losing his Lonsdale belt to Craig Richards in a thriller last December. Pitters has returned with two solid wins since against Jermaine Springer and Farouk Daku and will be looking to show the vast improvements from the Richards fight and make a big statement in claiming the crown.

Cartwright presents a real threat to Pitters’ ambition, the former IBF Youth Middleweight Champion has won his last three fights by KO and he’ll be aiming for a standout win over Pitters and show that he is the real deal in the competitive light-heavyweight ranks.

In an explosive Midlands derby showdown, Coventry hot-shot River Wilson-Bent (10-0-0, 5) will face off against Rowley Regis rival Tyler Denny (13-2-2) for the Vacant English Middleweight Championship. Hammer-fisted Bent, the former Midlands Area Champion, has KO’d three out of the last four opponents and is high on confidence as he heads into the crunch clash.

Southpaw Denny aims for second time lucky with a follow up shot at the English title after losing out to Linus Udofia in November 2019 on a very close points decision. In his last fight in June this year he had a standout win when he took the unbeaten record of Ultimate Boxxer winner Derrick Osaze on a points decision.

Red hot Irish middleweight sensation Aaron ‘The Silencer’ McKenna (12-0-0, 7) will return to action on the card and follows up his complete shut-out victory over Ivica Gogosevic last month. Hennessy will shortly announce some big and exciting news about Aaron’s fight on the show that will see him challenge for his first championship title.
Aaron’s joins older brother Stevie ‘The Hitman’ McKenna (9-0-0, 8) who is lighting up the welterweight division with his dynamic and KO performances. The 24-year-old completely outboxed Moussa Gary last month to win every round of their six-rounder and is now within touching distance of his first championship belt. McKenna continues to build momentum towards a massive clash against British rival Conor Benn that the County Monaghan ace wants next year.

The rest of the Hennessy All Stars team will be out in full force starting with Brixton cruiserweight ace Isaac Chamberlain (13-1-0, 7) who continues his comeback after his first round win last month against Ben Thomas. It was Chamberlain’s first fight since career enhancing shoulder surgery earlier this year and a victory for the IC will line him up for a potential title challenge in December. The domestic cruiserweight division is looking vibrant and Chamberlain aims to become the world’s best.

Kaisee Benjamin (13-1-1, 4) has turned bodysnatcher after halting his last two opponents with rib-crunching body shots as he intensifies his campaign towards a British title shot. The Birmingham banger KO’d Jarkko Putkonen in the third round last month and prior to that Martin Harkin in May in the seventh.

Completing the card will be flash Birmingham super-middleweight Idris Virgo (10-0-1, 1); Sevenoaks highly talented super-welterweight Michael Hennessy Jr. (7-1-1, 1); undefeated County Donegal middleweight starlet Brett McGinty (3-0-0, 1) and unbeaten Brighton heavyweight destroyer Tommy Welch (5-0-0, 4).

Promoter Mick Hennessy said, “What a fantastic card we return to the Coventry Skydome Arena with and it’s stacked from top to bottom with all our best prospects and champions in waiting. As Coventry is this year’s City of Culture, we’re proud to have put the city on the sporting map with such a fabulous fight night at the Skydome last month with Eggington against Jkitou in the Fight of the Year. All the boxers on the card have a lot to live up now after that fight, but I’m confident they will all deliver.”

RIVER WILSON-BENT: “I WANT TO PUT THE BRILLIANT CITY OF COVENTRY ON THE BOXING MAP!”

London, UK (2 September 2021) Given its population, it’s perhaps something of mystery, that Coventry – England’s eleventh largest city – has struggled to deliver it’s share of boxing champions, all-action Exhall middleweight ace River Wilson-Bent promises to promptly put paid to that.

‘I want to put this brilliant city on the boxing map,’ says the 27 year old Midland Area Champion who is undefeated in nine, with five brutal stoppages.

‘We’ve twice won the City of Culture, we’ve a brilliant football club…! Coventry City (FC) are getting right behind me. I always go to the matches when my training schedule permits.’

Thus far, it has been a tale of the nearly men for the West Midlands’ second city. Welterweight Bobby Arthur sat briefly sat on the British throne in 1972 but his victory was courtesy of a disqualification over future world champion John H. Stracey who savagely avenged him in an immediate rematch. Amateur sensation Errol Christie, an eight-time national junior champion, promised so much in the 80s only for a suspect chin to be exposed in the more brutal paid fold. In the late 90s, colourful Richie ‘The Tiger’ Evatt was leading up until the 11th round of an IBO featherweight tilt at New York’s Junior Jones before running out of petrol.

The noughties proved a purple patch for Cov boxing. Super-feather Dean ‘Pitbull’ Pithie and light-heavy Neil Simpson briefly conquered the Commonwealth only to capitulate in British title challenges. Another amateur ace Steve Bendall contested British, Commonwealth and European middleweight fights but never quite crossed the line and featherweight Roy Rutherford won a British crown in 2003 only to succumb in his maiden defence. Two years after, middleweight Andy Halder muscled his way to a British title shot but was wiped out in a round by Plymouth southpaw Scott Dann.

‘It’s my ambition to bring big boxing titles to Cov, deliver something none of the others managed. A Lonsdale Belt outright would be a mad achievement.’ states huge ticket seller River.

The Nuneaton-born 6ft 2in roofer concedes that, growing up, he was protected from the city’s rougher edges.

‘Cov’s a lively old town but Dad pushed us into sports. I was always active in after school clubs,’ claims the youngest of three.

‘Though there’s no boxing in the family, my brother was a superstar junior rugby player, on all the elite squads and I was always in his shadow. People told me I wasn’t aggressive enough… !

‘At my school, loads of kids around my age boxed but my mum wasn’t going to allow anyone to punch her little baby in the face so I started off without her knowing in Year 10. From the off, I was absolutely glued to the training. My progress was all about dedication and hard work. I really didn’t have much natural ability. For a start I wasn’t very fit. I became a human punchbag.

‘At school, I was a cheeky lad, liked to push the boundaries, test the water. I got pushed around a bit but six months after starting training, I got into a fight, beat the other kid up and, seriously, everything changed that day. Everyone started being nice to me.’

Though he never advanced beyond the regional titles in a 57 bout amateur innings, the River really started to flow once he began his pro career against Hyde’s Mike Castell in November 2018.

‘I actually wanted a few rounds but it was ‘Here I am! I stormed to the ring as fast as I could, wanted to prove I was serious. Three hundred of my fans bought tickets to see me for just 90 seconds,’ he recalls.

Coached by Brendon Norman, managed by Jon Pegg and promoted by Mick Hennessy, the pride of Cov has certainly sparkled since being unleashed at 10 round Area title level last December.

‘I’ve always been able to use my nerves to rise to the occasion against better opposition,’ says the Midland man who trounced Burntwood’s 6-0 Troy Coleman with a raking right to claim the crown (TKO3), then retained by routing another unbeaten man, Derby’s George Farrell in seven rounds six months later.

‘I’d heard good things about Troy; he was strong gave people lots of problems but I’d always rather box better kids who open up.

‘Against George Farrell, I sold 220 tickets. I was told he was a baaaad guy, a big strong lad, a banger but I work way too hard to worry about others. He was a fit durable kid who shook off some seriously heavy shots. But it was lovely to hear the crowd back.’

With his huge army of Sky Blues boys bringing the noise to every appearance, big things are predicted for the Exhall Express.

‘I’m mandatory for the English and hopefully will fight Tyler Denny in November or December,’ says Wilson-Bent who recently completed a marathon in just three hours, 20 minutes.

‘I’ve developed a winning style that adapts to whatever’s in front of me. I can box long, short or mid-range, I can dance and move or get stuck in. I usually keep them on the end of my long levers but when I smell blood, I go for the jugular.’

He will certainly be the best supported man on the bill when he stars on promoter Hennessy’s Channel 5 screened spectacular at The Skydome in his home city on Friday 10th September when he takes on Bosnian Hardman Sladjan Janjanin in what is expected to be a fiery showdown.

‘Get down to the Skydome!’ concludes River.

‘I’m fighting a 10 rounder against a tough Bosnian Sladjan Janjanin who’s got 29 wins, and 23 stoppages. It’s a good opponent, hopefully for an International title.

‘I’m just a young local lad trying to make something of himself. My support is ridiculous and their noise is crazy. They’ll bring the atmosphere, I’ll deliver the entertainment. Guaranteed!’

Tickets are available to purchase now from only £40* from the Coventry Skydome Arena website https://iceaccount.co.uk/championship-boxing

RIVER HELL BENT ON KNOCKING OUT BOSNIAN HARDMAN JANJANIN AFTER ‘LITTLE GIRL’ JIBE

London, UK (19 August 2021) Coventry puncher River Wilson-Bent is hell bent on knocking out Sladjan Janjanin after the Bosnian hardman fired a salvo of posts on Instagram calling him a ‘little girl’.

Undefeated middleweight Bent takes on Janjanin at his fort at the Coventry Skydome Arena on Friday 10th September, headlined with Sam Eggington’s WBC Silver Middleweight title defence against Bilel Jkitou, exclusively live and free on Channel 5.

Sparks are expected to fly when they collide as both men carry iron in their fists in the ring and also in their jobs. Hammer fisted River, who has KO’d five out of his nine opponents, works as a roofer, while heavy-handed Janjanin, with a frightening 23 KO’s from 29 wins, is a miner in his homeland.

Bent has impressed with dynamite KO performance in his last three fights that also sent shivers down the back of Stoke rival Nathan Heaney causing him to pull out of their recent English title purse bids.

The 27-year-old from Exhall who’s unbeaten in nine fights with five KO’s takes a big step up when he faces the experienced Janjanin, who has 37 fights under his belt in their ten-round International contest.

Janjanin, 30, extended four-time World Title challenger Martin Murray the eight-round distance when they fought in November 2019 in Liverpool and is threatening to knockout Bent on his UK return.

Wilson erupted after reading the messages on Instagram, he said, “I’m going to do a real good job nailing this guy flat to the canvas,”

“I’m pleased that he’s really confident and talking big ahead of the fight because he’ll be falling from a great height when I knock him out,”

“Janjanin is the type of opponent I wanted to fire me up and get me in the right frame of mind to do some damage. He’s a step up for me, he’s very experienced, he took Murray the distance when they fought and it will be a big statement if I can get him out of there quicker,”

“He’s coming over here to break my clean slate but there’s no way he’s going to do that in front of my loyal home fans who’ll be packing out the Coventry Skydome Arena to the rafters on the night,”

“He won’t have felt power like what’s in my fists when I land cleanly and precisely on his jaw, it will be just like hitting a nail perfectly square-on with a hammer with one shot, he’ll go.”

“I’ll be leaving Janjanin in the gutter at the end of the night. I can’t wait for it.”

BENT SAYS HEANEY HAS GONE SILENT FOR ENGLISH TITLE SHOWDOWN

London, UK (20 July 2021) Big-punching Coventry ace River Wilson-Bent believes that Stoke-on-Trent rival Nathan Heaney doesn’t want to face him for the Vacant English Middleweight title now that purse bids have been called by the BBBofC.

Midlands Area Champion Bent, 27, is gagging for the showdown and senses that Heaney has gone cold after seeing Bent knockout his last three opponents back-to-back in devastating style.

His last fight in May was a thriller against George Farrell when he halted the Derby man in the seventh round and is now looking to take the next step up on his pursuit of the Lonsdale belt.

In an interview with Ali Drew for Hennessy Sports’ YouTube Channel, Bent said, “We’ve shared a couple of rounds, we’ve done a few rounds with each other sparring. Yeah, it will be a great fight, especially for the Midlands area. He’s a Stoke lad and I’m Coventry. The amount of tickets that we’ll both sell, the roof will be lifted. I think the fight should happen. On my behalf and my team’s behalf the fight will happen. The only reason it won’t happen is obviously him. I’d fight him in Stoke in front of all of his fans and I’d walk out first. That doesn’t bother me I want this fight it’s a massive fight. Let’s see what he says,”

Bent continued, “I don’t think he’s up for it to be fair. I hope he proves me wrong but I don’t think he wants the fight. I didn’t see him share it [news of the English title purse bids] when it first came out, I messaged him saying, ‘this is cracking, let’s have it’. He looked at it, seen it, didn’t write anything for a while then he messaged me back saying ‘it would be a cracking fight’. Then I messaged him back saying ‘Are you up for it then?’ Are we going to do it?’ and he didn’t even reply. So he’s looked at it and not replied that indicates to me that he’s had second thoughts or he hasn’t thought about it and I sense he doesn’t want the fight.”

Hammer-fisted Bent, who holds down a full-time job as a roofer, has been compared to a young Ricky Hatton with a similar exciting, hard-hitting, all-action style and can sell a huge amount of tickets due to his popular down-to-earth, man of the people, personality.

He said, “Ricky Hatton’s a legend. If I can pull it off and get the same legacy as he has it it will be a dream,”

Hailing from Exhall, Bent aims to rejuvenate Coventry’s boxing scene that has a rich history with British and Commonwealth Champions champions including Dean Pithie, Neil Simpson, Richard Evatt, Steve Bendall and Andy Halder and he aims to go even further and become the city’s first World Champion.

He added, “Yeah definitely, I want to win the British title, I think there’s been two British champions from Coventry. If I can go on to European and World title. If I win the English next, if I do fight Heaney for it, then it’s the next on the ladder. I’ll keep going up and up. Yeah, bringing boxing back to Coventry will be mad.”

COVENTRY’S KO SENSATION RIVER WILSON-BENT SIGNS PROMOTIONAL AGREEMENT WITH MICK HENNESSY

London, UK (5 June 2021) One of British boxing’s most exciting and hard-hitting talents, River Wilson-Bent, has signed a long-term promotional agreement with top promoter Mick Hennessy as he embarks on the next stage of his career.

The unbeaten Coventry sensation put pen to paper following his pulsating stoppage victory over George Farrell last month that was televised on free-to-air Channel 5 in the UK after headliner Sam Eggington’s win over Carlos Molina to claim the WBC Silver Middleweight title.

Bent, the current Midlands Area Middleweight Champion, joins an eclectic stable of fighters under the Hennessy Sports banner and the all-action 27-year-old will have his first fight under the new deal when he returns to the Coventry Skydome Arena on July 17 with full event details to be announced shortly.

Bent said, “To sign with a premier promoter like Mick Hennessy is a dream come true for me,”

“I’m thrilled to join the buzzing Hennessy Sports team and Channel 5 with top names likes Sam, Isaac, Stevie and Shakan, plus the other up-and-coming lads under the banner,”

“It’s been a dream of mine since I was a kid to one day have a top promoter backing me and I’m so happy to have someone like Mick whose experience, knowledge and guidance will steer me to the top. I know that my career is in safe hands.”

“Short term, my goal is to fight for the English title and then work my way up the domestic rankings with my opponents and experience improving each time and then I know I’ll be ready to fight for the British title. Longer term, I want the World title and to be called a World Champion, that’s my dream. With Mick’s backing the possibilities are endless.”

The 6ft 2in puncher from Exhall is undefeated in nine fights with five knockouts and his last three fights have ended in stoppages which have made the public and pundits sit up and start to take notice of the fast emerging 27-year-old.

Against unbeaten Farrell, Bent produced a career best performance in the first defence of his Midlands Area title to stop the gutsy Farrell in the seventh round. Last December he obliterated undefeated Troy Coleman with a pulverising right hand to win the Midlands Area crown and prior to that he stopped durable veteran Alistair Warren in five rounds.

Remarkably, Bent holds down his day job as a roofer alongside his boxing training and is a working class hero to his large and loyal followers’ who turn out in their droves to see him in action.

He could have sold hundreds of tickets over his allotted allocation for the Farrell fight, but was limited due to Government Covid-19 regulations and is hopeful that further restrictions will be lifted shortly so all his fans can get to watch him again.

Bent added, “My fans are absolutely crazy, it’s a real great feeling knowing that you’re coming out into the arena with your fanbase cheering you on, it really spurs me on to victory,”

“I really missed them for the Coleman fight when no fans could come in, but I gave them something explosive to watch back at home on Channel 5 with the knockout,”

“Then for the last fight against Farrell, things were a lot better with a small allocation of about 150 were allowed in but they made such a racket when I fought it felt like it was a full house so hopefully we can pack the arena out some more on July 17.”

Hennessy, who has been a professional TV promoter for almost two decades and has developed countless talents including world champions and mainstream stars Tyson Fury and Carl Froch, is excited to be guiding Bent.

“I really get a buzz out of unearthing talented boxers from grassroots and developing them into champions and stars,” Said Hennessy.

“River really excites me and I can see the vast potential in him which is why I wanted to sign him. He’s featured on my last two shows and each time he has impressed me with me his explosive and exciting performances,”

“I don’t sign up a lot of fighters but the ones that I do sign I firmly believe in them and back them all the way, one hundred percent, and I know with River he has the promise to reach the very top.”

Renowned Midlands fight figure Jon Pegg, Bent’s manager, is delighted for his man who he believes grasped his opportunities with both hands and is now seeing the rewards.

He said, “River was handed an opportunity by Mick against an unbeaten fighter in Coleman, he knocked him out and on the strength of that was given a further opportunity against the unbeaten Farrell and stopped him as well and has been rewarded with a promotional deal. It’s a great example for any young fighters out there to take the chances you’re given. I’m over the moon for him and I know that he’ll just get better and better with Mick and Channel 5 pushing him.”
