Surgery gone wrong facilitated Mosley retirement

A surgery gone wrong led to the retirement of Shane Mosley, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

Earlier this year Mosley went for what was supposed to be minor surgery to shave down a bothersome bone spur and remove loose particles from his right elbow, but instead he said he was left with more serious damage.

“I had a few more years left in me and had a few big fights lined up for 2017 and 2018. Hopkins fought up to 50 at the world-class level and he has always been a role model and friend,” Mosley told ESPN. “However, fate, if you will, stepped in and took those options away from me earlier this year.

“I went in for a minor arthroscopic surgery to remove a couple loose bone fragments from my elbow and the surgery turned into a whole ordeal after the surgeon admittedly ‘accidentally’ burned me on my forearm, leading to a sick infection and needing like four or five days of IV antibiotics and two weeks of antibiotics at home. It was crazy and surreal to learn that I could never fight again.”

“My right arm is ruined. They were supposed to make two 2-centimeter incisions in my elbow in a one-hour surgery, and I ended up in there over four hours and came out butchered.”

Shane Mosley officially retires

Former three-division champion Shane Mosley is finally hanging up the gloves, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

“I decided that I’m older now. I’m not the same as I used to be, so I need to let it go as far as me trying to compete as a fighter anymore,” Mosley told ESPN. “I’m definitely always going to be around boxing. I’ll still go to the gym and show people stuff, help them out. I still love boxing. It’s still my life but just not as a fighter anymore.”

“What happened was my arm is breaking down, my knees, shoulders,” he said. “My back is starting to break down. My body is telling me I’m older and I can’t do it at 100 percent. I can’t see myself fighting again. I’d have to say I’m retired.”

“I always wanted to be a world champion and I accomplished my goal when I beat Holiday,” Mosley said. “Beating him and winning the world title was like, ‘I have arrived.'”

“It was such a big event,” Mosley said. “I am so grateful Oscar gave me that opportunity to showcase my skills on a worldwide level so people could see who ‘Sugar’ Shane was. When I fought Oscar it really put me on the world stage and I kept on winning and knocking people out.”

“It was a learning experience. I didn’t go into the fight thinking that it was anything illegal or anything I should be worried about,” Mosley said. “I learned a lesson. I was misled by a workout guy [Hudson].”

“I believe I was an old-school fighter and I believed in fighting everybody,” he said. “Winky Wright always thanks me for letting him be noticed by fighting him. It’s just like I thank Oscar. You have to have fighters willing to fight anybody. I was one of those fighters. So were Winky and Oscar.”

“I worked hard and I wanted to be a world champion and to make people happy when they saw me fight and I think I did that,” Mosley said. “People being happy and enjoying my fights and seeing that I put 100 percent into it was important to me and people have always shown me appreciation for it.”

USA vs Russia “For the Title

Pacquiao_Mosley_weighin_110506_004a
“Sugar” Shane Mosley, is back with a bang on May 28th, 2016 at the gorgeous Gila River Arena in Glendale, AZ. Soon after Mosley’s December 17th win over two time Olympian Patrick Lopez, Shane entered into negotiations with not one but TWO current World Champions for a fight in the summer. After months of going back and forth, both champions backed out to opt for what each cites as “an easier defense” than Mosley. Mosley’s search to get a world title fight continued until one courageous fighter and his manager accepted the Mosley challenge. David Avanesyan is currently ranked #1 in the world with the WBA and the current interim WBA Welterweight World Champion. Avanesyan has held 6 titles in his time as a professional fighter and recently won the WBA title against Charlie Navarro (a top rated fighter).

After striking up a grand friendship in Panama, Mosley has enlisted the man, the myth, the legend, Roberto “Hands of Stone” Duran, to be his trainer. This “Sugar and Stone” team, as they are calling themselves, are a match made in heaven, and the fans are going crazy. The match is being promoted by GoBox Promotions, the promotional outfit owned by Shane Mosley. The promotion promises to be a lively event with the hottest ring girls, boxing demonstrations, signed glove giveaways and fan contests. The last GoBox event was a fan hailed success with the “ring girl” fights in between matches, and musical performances. Go Box plan to take it one step further with their amazing new sponsors, and the support of Gila River Arena as well as CBS Sports.

BOXNATION TO SHOW FUTURE HALL-OF-FAMER SHANE MOSLEY’S RING RETURN EXCLUSIVELY LIVE THIS SATURDAY NIGHT

Pacquiao_Mosley_110507_009a
LONDON (23 May) – The ring return of future Hall-of-Famer and boxing great ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley will be exclusively live on BoxNation as he challenges interim WBA welterweight champion David Avanesyan this Saturday night.

44-year-old Mosley is coming off an impressive stoppage win over Venezuelan Patrick Lopez last December as he takes on the tough Russian Avanesyan, who has just a solitary defeat on his record after 23 fights.

The victor of the bout is stipulated by the WBA to face the winner of next month’s clash between Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter, increasing the stakes for both fighters as they look to capture the regular world title at 147-pounds.

Taking place at Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona, three-weight world champion Mosley will have the backing of boxing icon and new trainer Roberto Duran in his corner.

“I plan to put on a clinic,” Mosley said. “I’m not just going to win. I’m going to annihilate him. In 2009 they said I was done but they were wrong. I’m glad people know this is a real competitive fight. It will be a challenge, but when I win, the world will know.”

Mosley has bounced back with two impressive wins since his 2013 stoppage loss against Anthony Mundine, gaining victories against former two-weight champion Ricardo Mayorga before his most recent triumph over Lopez.

Overcoming Avanesyan will prove his stiffest test since Mundine, however, with the skilled Russian being first-ranked by the WBA and having never been stopped in his career.

To watch Mosley v Avanesyan exclusively live on BoxNation (Sky/Freeview/Virgin/TalkTalk/Online & App) this Saturday night, go to boxnation.com to subscribe.

Mosley vs. Avanesyan battle for the WBAMay 28th Memorial Weekend, Live on CBS Sports Network

Pacquiao_Mosley_110507_009a
“Sugar” Shane Mosley, is back with a bang on May 28th, 2016 at the gorgeous Gila River Arena in Glendale, AZ.

Sugar Shane Mosley brings on Hall of Famer Robert Duran for upcoming title bout

Pacquiao_Mosley_110507_009a
Former three-division champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley is proud to announce that he is bringing International Boxing Hall of Fame member Roberto “Manos De Piedra” Duran on as his trainer for his upcoming world title fight.

Duran, who defeated several of the top names in sport and is regarded by many as the greatest Latino fighter of all time, is looking to make Mosley into an even greater force in boxing.

After ending a brief retirement, Mosley went 2-0 in 2015 and in the upcoming few days will announce his next fight which will be for a world title. Mosley has stated on numerous occasions that he came back to the sport to face the biggest possible names and believes that Duran will help him achieve his goals.

“I am very happy to have Duran on my team. This is the type of addition that will push me even farther,” said Mosley. “He is a fighter that I looked up to when I was coming up. How can you not learn from a legend like him?”

Follow Mosley on Twitter @ShaneMosley_ for details on his soon to be announced fight.

STATEMENT FROM ARTHUR ABRAHAM

Arthur Abraham
This fight is a dream come true for me. I fought in Hollywood, Florida vs. Edison Miranda, against Andre Dirrell in Detroit and vs. Andre Ward in Carson, California. But the flair of a big-time event was missing. I was at Manny’s fight vs. Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand in 2011 and the atmosphere captured my imagination. Afterwards, it was my wish to one day step into this very ring and on April 9 I will finally get the chance to share the spotlight with the “Pac-Man”. I do not take a win that night for granted, as Gilberto Ramirez is a young upcoming boxer from Mexico, one of the greatest fighting countries. He wants to write history by becoming the first Mexican to win a world championship at super middleweight. But myself being an Armenian, living and fighting out of Germany, I have two values to fight for: pride and honor. I will go into this fight with the following words on my mind: “Mejor morir de pie que vivir arrodillado!” This is going to be my greatest victory. Thank you!

Castellanos continued to show his power in January of 2015 facing the warrior Rocky Juarez for the chance to win the WBC Silver Featherweight title and become the mandatory challenger for the WBC Featherweight World Championship. Ronny Rios: After suffering the first loss of his career to Robinson “Robin Hood” Castellanos in 2014, Santa Ana, California’s Ronny Rios (25-1, 10 KOs) came back more determined than ever in 2015, and his performances in defeating Sergio “El Frio” Frias and previously unbeaten Jayson “Star” Velez proved that this 25-year-old was ready for prime time again.

Team Mosley fires back to the WBC “You need to look at the facts before you comment”

Pacquiao_Mosley_110507_009a
Shane Mosley and His VP of Operations Trista Pisani are extremely disappointed with the recent comments made by WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman. Yesterday the WBC distributed a press release stating that, “The World Boxing Council expresses complete rejection concerning the embarrassing fight simulation between Shane Mosley and Ricardo Mayorga at their press conference yesterday.”

This statement was released in regards to the bad judgment exercised by Mayorga who slapped Ms. Pisani on her back side as their final press conference was ending. The notion that the WBC would comment on this terrible act against a woman (in an executive role no less) without first examining the facts and at the very least picking up a phone and calling Team Mosley to hear their side of the story on the events that took place is very disappointing and frankly is appalling.

Mayorga backtracked and said that he was coerced into this vile act only after he received countless negative comments and reactions from the general public and a stern phone call from Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega.

It appears very obvious that the WBC reacted to Mayorga’s interview with the Nicaraguan press after the phone call from his President in which he was reportedly told that he would lose the support of Ortega if he didn’t immediately clean up his act. This type of irresponsible commentary without one shred of fact checking is alarming. It goes without saying that Mayorga has a history of irrational behavior.

When a woman is potenially violated the WBC has a responsibility to tread more carefully and owes Ms. Pisani an apology.

Knockout set to eclipse competition with addition of Hollywood super agent

Knockout, the highly regarded television reality series starring Roy Jones Jr, Shane Mosley, Floyd Mayweather Sr, and John Scully, has already surpassed much of the competition in combat sports. Season 2 has played extremely well and has become a staple in the boxing community. With its star power, it has also been able to grab the attention of Hollywood super agent Andrew Ruf, who has put in motion an international deal that will put the series in several countries. There will also be formation of format deals in international countries.

So how can Knockout compete with the spending power of HBO, Showtime and PBC? The simple answer is they can’t, so how will they compete and surpass them? The answer is the fan base. Knockout has rated extremely well with limited promotions and limited homes. The wheels are in motion for full market penetration on cable and with international and format deals coming, Knockout will be the only international weekly aired combat sport along with the UFC and WWE shows. Next year it will likely be the biggest reality show based on this season’s upcoming finale and plans for season 3.

This show is produced and marketed for pennies on the dollar compared to boxing’s elite yet it competes weekly and surpasses the competition in fan appeal. More homes and a worldwide franchise transcends to more ratings, and in turn into more ad revenue and a bigger budget.

The show from a format perspective is already the best thing in boxing. If things go as planned, the one million plus promoters and billion dollar networks have a problem. It took only 12 episodes and 2 live events to have boxing’s best become part of team Knockout. People, this is called proof of concept that adds up to a problem for the competition.

Watch it on NUVOtv or Hulu on Wednesday 10 p.m. This is a must see.

Pacquiao_Mosley_weighin_110506_004a
LOS ANGELES (October 21) – Scheduled to face Anthony Mundine at the Sydney Entertainment Centre in Australia on October 23, boxing superstar Sugar Shane Mosley will instead be going home after a breach of contract by the event’s co-promoter, Millennium Events, prompting his withdrawal from the fight.

“I’m very disappointed with this turn of events because I was planning on making a big statement by beating Mundine, but I was left with no choice but to withdraw,” said Shane Mosley. “The fans in Australia have welcomed me with open arms, and I hope to return to fight for them one day in better circumstances.”

“It’s unfortunate that this fight will not be taking place, and we apologize to all of Shane’s Australian fans, but there are contracts in place for a reason, and when the terms are not adhered to, we have no choice but to protect our fighter, and that’s what happened here,” said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions.

PROMOTER VLAD WARTON BELIEVES EXPECTS MUNDINE – MOSLEY TO BE A RECORD SHATTERING EVENT IN AUSTRALIA

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA (September 18, 2013)—On Wednesday night October 23rd, It will be an historic night of boxing at the Sydney Entertainment Center in Sydney, Australia when former three world champion Anthony Mundine (44-5, 26 KO’s) battles six-time world champion and future Hall of Famer “Sugar” Shane Mosley in a twelve round Jr. Middleweight bout for the WBA International championship.

The fight is promoted by Vlad Warton’s Millennium Events and Golden Boy Promotions.

Warton, who has promoted big fights all over the world, believes that this fight will be undoubtedly one of the biggest fights in the history of Australia.

That’s a big statement considering fights that fights such as the 1992 rematch between Jeff Fenech and Azumah Nelson as well as a fight that Warton promoted in 2003 between the great Kostya Tszyu and Jesse James Leija drew 40,000 spectators to the Telstra Dome in Melbourne

“This is a fight fan’s dream fight for Australia”, said Warton.

“Because of a legend like Shane Mosley, it will excite the fans of Australia. Because of what he has done in his career, Mosley will have as much support as Mundine on October 23rd. He has fought no one but the best and has beaten a lot of great fighters so to say Anthony has his work cut out for him is an understatement”

“Given the styles and Mosley’s championship experience, I would say he has an edge.”

The promoter points out there are similarities and the differences that will make this an interesting fight.

“While Mundine is slightly younger and taller, Mosley is stronger. You have Mundine coming down from Middleweight and Mosley is coming up from Welterweight. This fight considering the styles will provide huge excitement”

Not since Roy Jones Jr. fought Danny Green in 2009, has a fighter with the superstar pedigree of a Shane Mosley traveled to Australia for a big fight.

“This is a great opportunity to see someone as great as Shane Mosley on these shores. He maybe 42 years old, but he is coming off a great win over a future world champion in Pablo Cesar Cano so we know he still has a ton of gas left in his tank”

Neither fighter can afford a loss at this stage in their career as it will be an extremely tough road back for the loser, yet the winner will get the opportunity for one more high profile fight.

“The winner will get a high profile fight back in the United States while the loser will go back to zero. Anthony knows that this could be his last great opportunity. He is more mature and even though he is a three-time world champion, this could be a career defining fight.”

The fight will be televised via Pay Per View in Australia on Main Event and New Zealand on SKY Channel and tickets to the live event are $1000; $500; $200; $100 and $50

An American Television partner will be announced shortly.

“THE LEGENDARY FIGHT OF THE AGES” “SUGAR” SHANE MOSLEY VS ANTHONY MUNDINE LATE OCTOBER 2013 SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

anthony-mundine
The wait is finally over as a mega fight heads for Australia. In Late October 2013 “The Legendary Fight of the Ages” takes place in Sydney, Australia. Two of the world’s most legendary fighters from two different continents face off in what should be one of the most blockbuster fights of our time. From the United States is “Sugar” Shane Mosley who is one greatest boxers of all time taking on the Australia Legend, Anthony Mundine. This match up shapes up to be one of the best fights in the history of boxing. Fans across the world will be treated to a battle which is truly a test of what champions are all about.

It goes without saying that Shane Mosely in his career has fought all the greatest boxers in his weight class in the last two decades. Compiling a record of 47-8-1 with 39 KO’s. In 2000 Mosely was the elected by the World Boxing Hall of Fame Fighter of the Year. He has held World Titles from Lightweight, Welterweight and Light-Middleweight. He won his first title in 1997 as a Lightweight and just last year fought for World Title at Jr. Middleweight. In his career he has fought the likes of Saul Alverez, Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr. Miguel Cotto, Fernando Vargas and of course, Oscar De La Hoya.

Hailing from Down Under is Anthony “The Man” Mundine who is undoubtabtly one of the greatest Australia’s boxers of all time. Mundine, a former professional rugby league star turned pro-boxer in 2000. Since becoming a boxer Mundine has torn up the world of boxing with a professional record of 44-5-0 with 26 knockouts. Mundine also has fought many legendary fighters in his career such as Danny Green, Mikkel Kessler, Sam Solomon and Bronco McKart. Mundine has won world titles in three different weight divisions from super-welterweight, middleweight and super-middleweight. Anthony’s last fight was against Daniel Geale for the World Middleweight Title.

These two warriors shape up very well against each other and who knows who the victor will be. Both fighters have very similar records and very similar careers both fighting and holding world titles in different weight divisions. Shane Mosely holds an advantage as possibly a better boxer with a little better resume. Mundine is a bigger, stronger fighter who can pose some interesting problems for Mosely. Both fighters are right handed but Mundine holds a 3 inch height advantage. Mundine has always fought heavier than Mosely and this could play a part in the outcome of the fight. On the other hand, Mosely is a great boxer and has fought more world champion caliber fighters than Mundine. Mundine and Mosely are both in the later stages of their career, Mundine at 38 and Mosely at 41. The winner of this blockbuster event will likely fight the winner of Mayweather vs Alverez bout. This bout shapes up to possibly surpass the Mayweather vs Alverez bout in action.

Tickets for this event will be available for purchase shortly and this fight is definitely going to sell out! The event will also be on Pay Per View and will be announced shortly.

There will be a press conference on August 29, 2013 in Los Angeles by Millennium Events and Golden Boy Promotions. Time and Place to be announced.

Turning pro in 2010, Vargas has built a strong reputation for his versatile skill set and ring savvy. Last year, he turned up the heat, fighting and winning six times with five of those wins coming by way of knockout. On January 26, Vargas kept his hot streak going with a second round knockout win over Ira Terry and, following the cancellation of his scheduled May 3 bout when his opponent passed out trying to make weight, he will be back in the ring this weekend to take on Chiapas’ Cristian Arrazola (7-7-1, 4 KO’s) in a lightweight contest scheduled for eight rounds.

Plus, Tijuana’s Jorge Silva (18-3-2, 14 KO’s) will take on Guasave’s Cesar Chavez (21-3, KO’s) in a 10-round welterweight fight, while veteran fan favorite Enrique Ornelas (33-8, 21 KO’s) of Guanajuato is back in action in an eight-round super middleweight clash against Chihuahua’s Isaac Mendez (16-9, 14 KO’s).

The owner of multiple world titles in the lightweight, welterweight and junior middleweight divisions, Sugar Shane Mosley (46-8-1, 39 KO’s) has compiled a career resume any fighter would envy. Having scored wins over Oscar De La Hoya, Winky Wright, Fernando Vargas, Ricardo Mayorga, Antonio Margarito and Jesse James Leija,, Pomona, California’s Mosley has also shared the ring with the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez, thrilling fans for years with his style, speed and ring savvy. In his most recent fight in May of 2012, Mosley lost a 12 round decision to Alvarez, but after a year away from the ring, Sugar Shane is back and ready to face a stern test in Cano.

Former WBA Interim Super Lightweight World Champion Pablo Cesar “El Demoledor” Cano (25-2-1, 19 KO’s) made a big impression on the boxing world when he took a last minute fight with future Hall of Famer Erik “El Terrible” Morales in 2011 in which he went 11 hard rounds before losing to the Mexican superstar. In his 147-pound debut last October he impressed once again when he went 12 hard-fought rounds with WBA Welterweight World Champion Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi, scoring an 11th round knockdown before losing a controversial split decision. Undeterred, the 23-year-old Cano has the opportunity to not just get back on a winning track, but to defeat a legend on May 18.

Mosley to comeback against Cano

Mosley_Grand_Arrival_110503_001a
Former three division world champion Shane Mosley will come out of retirement to face recent world title challenger Pablo Cesar Cano on May 18th on Cancun, Mexico according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

“I’m happy to get back in the ring competing,” Mosley told ESPN.com on Wednesday. “This can put me back in contention to fight for another world title.”

“Cano’s last fight fell out because he was sick, so now he needs an opponent for his next fight,” Mosley said. “And I told everyone at Golden Boy that I am willing to fight anybody at 147. Anybody. My mind set is I am on a mission to win a world title again and do it with my father (Jack Mosley) in the corner.”

“We think it’s an interesting fight,” Golden Boy Promotions chief executive Richard Schaefer said. “Televisa, which we have a (television) deal with in Mexico, likes the fight so they are excited about it and, of course, those fights are on Fox Deportes in the United States, so this gives them a fight with some good names also.”

“HBO and Showtime felt that Shane should have a fight where he shows he’s still got it and that such a fight should not be on a premium network,” Schaefer said. “That was communicated to Shane. The message was conveyed and he took this fight with Cano.

“This is a fight that is going to show where Cano is and where Shane is. For Shane to fight Joe Shmoe wouldn’t do anybody any good. But if Shane can beat a young, talented guy like Cano, it’s a huge step for Shane, who can say, ‘Hey, I’m still here and I want to have another shot at the title.’ So this is a meaningful fight for Shane and also for Cano, because if he can beat Mosley that’s a great name on his resume. So Cano will be motivated for that reason and Shane knows how important this is because it can open doors for him again if he wins.

“I haven’t seen his fight with Malignaggi yet. I’m going to get a copy of it,” Mosley said. “But I watched the fight with Morales and I got a feel for how Cano fights. He looks like a good, young fighter. He likes to fight, he’s tough and he’s strong. I’m looking forward to fighting him. This is the type of fight I need to get myself back on the road to fighting the top guys at welterweight. At this point, I’m looking to fight everybody.”

“I was proud of him and I was inspired by the things he was doing at the age of 48,” Mosley said. “He looked good doing it. He had the moves and the style matched up very well for him. For him to be able to do that at 48 is phenomenal. At the end of the fight it didn’t look like he was breathing. He was smiling and talking — he always talks — and looked great. That really inspired me.”

“I’ve never fought in Mexico, but I went there for the press conference for the fight with Canelo and I got a good response,” Mosley said. “A lot of people there love me and respect me and I think it will be the same with this fight. Cancun is fine with me. After the fight maybe I’ll take a little vacation there and enjoy myself after all the hard work I’m about to put in.”

Malignaggi – Mosley fight breaks down over money

malignaggimosley206
According to Dan Rafael of espn.com a potential WBA Welterweight title clash between Paulie Malignaggi and Shane Mosley broke down over financial terms

“Mosley was on board, and I was under the impression that Paulie was on board as well, but for whatever reason, that was not the case,” Golden Boy Promotions Richard Schaefer told ESPN.com.

“The fight is dead in the water. At the end of the day, the financial package was not attractive enough for Paulie to take the fight, and that is his right.”

“I talked to Shane and he said OK and that he didn’t blame anybody,” Schaefer said. “I know this fight meant a lot to him, that he wanted a chance to win the title again, and I think if the right opportunity comes along, I would still make a fight for Shane Mosley if he wants it, so that’s one of the things I am working on.”

“I felt a fight between Paulie and Shane would be a good fight and sell tickets. I felt it was an intriguing matchup,” Schaefer said. “You ask people who will win, and they scratch their head and say Mosley might actually win the fight. I felt I could sell this fight at the Barclays Center. Life goes on.”

One of the fighters to now be in the mix to face Malignaggi could be Marcos Maidana

“Malignaggi is one of the few fighters out there who really have b—-, not like the others. I want his title,” Maidana tweeted.

Responded Malignaggi: “(Maidana) is a worthy challenger. He deserves a shot. Let’s get it done.”

“We were (surprised) to read Malignaggi’s statement that he wants Maidana and not Mosley, so I immediately called Maidana on the phone to let him know and he instructed me to ask (Golden Boy) for that fight yet again since Maidana has no fights scheduled as of yet,” he said.

“If I’m going to do Malignaggi-Maidana, I wouldn’t want to take the risk at the Barclays Center,” Schaefer said. “I’m probably going to do a fight for Paulie (April 27), but I don’t see many other headline fights for him at Barclays. Do I think Malignaggi-Maidana is a good fight? I do, but I am not sure that’s the main event at the Barclays Center, a big, big arena. I don’t want to put that fight in a huge venue.

“Right now, I have been thrown a bit of a curveball with this (Malignaggi-Mosley) fight situation, but we will move on. We will have an event on April 27 on Showtime and we are coming up with the right card, but it won’t necessarily be at Barclays Center. My first choice is Lucas Matthysse against Marcos Maidana, assuming Matthysse wins on Saturday, from the West Coast.”

“A fight between Andre Berto and Paulie Malignaggi would be of interest to the networks and fans,” he said. “A fight between Maidana and Matthysse is of interest. A fight between Malignaggi and Maidana is of interest. Now there are different amounts of license fees being paid for these fights, so I will go to Malignaggi, to Maidana, to Berto, to Matthysse, and I will tell them what the different purses they can make and we’ll go from there.”

Mosley eying Maligaggi fight April 27

Pacquiao_Mosley_110507_009a
According to Dan Rafael of espn.com is reporting that a deal for WBA Welterweight champion Paulie Malignaggi to take on former three division champion Shane Mosley is close to being finalized.

Mosley told ESPN.com on Monday that the deal has been agreed to and that “on my end, it’s a go.”

“Shane came to see me in early December and said he wanted to come back for an opportunity to win a world title again, that he feels ready, that he feels he can beat Malignaggi and see if we could give him the opportunity,” said Golden Boy Promotions Richard Schaefer. “I looked in his eyes and told him he cannot make a lot of money and that a lot of people question whether he should fight. But I told him I will do what I can to give him the opportunity and that it would be up to him to prove that he has what it takes to be world champion again.

“I discussed the fight with the networks and Paulie and I felt Shane deserved the opportunity to fight for a world title again. He has accomplished so much and thrilled fight fans in so many fights, so I am happy to give him this opportunity.”

“I’m excited to have my father back with me as my coach,” Mosley said. “To be able to go into a fight and (try to) win a world title again with my father in the corner, that is like a storybook. To go into a fight like this and have family in the corner and win another belt, it’s going to be a great feeling.”

“Me working with my son and other up-and-coming fighters, I felt good. My body feels better,” said Mosley, who attributed his winless stretch to a series of leg and groin injuries that he said are now better.

“My legs were dead,” Mosley said. “I couldn’t move like I wanted to and I was throwing one shot at a time. That started from injuries. I had a groin injury before the Mayweather fight. After that I had the Achilles injury. I was fighting with no legs and I couldn’t attack. That’s why I had so many problems.”

“I was thinking about it and running a little bit and I said, ‘You know what? I think I can do this,'” he said. “I’m holding my own in the gym no matter who I work with. I really love this sport. I love to do it. When I am in the gym, I can see myself improving.”

“I told Richard that this could be a good fight and asked him what do you think about Paulie and me fighting in Brooklyn,” Mosley said. “Fighting Paulie is a great opportunity. (When Golden Boy offered me the fight) it’s something you can’t really refuse. Paulie is a mover, but he’s durable. A lot of people underestimate him and then they lose. But I can’t afford to underestimate him.”

“I’m not fighting for money,” said Mosley, who has earned tens of millions of dollars. “I’m fighting for the belt and the love of the sport. I love the sport. I want to be in there. I want to win the belt. I’m not fighting for the money. I’m fighting for history, legacy and the family coming back together. This is a fight to give me a world title that I want and after winning it, I will fight all comers.”

“The first reaction from a lot of people when I mentioned the fight was, ‘Why?’ My reaction was who do you think will win the fight and the reaction was that they thought Shane might win,” Schaefer said. “That’s why it’s an intriguing fight. And Shane is going into the lion’s den in Paulie’s backyard because this is about his desire to become welterweight champion again.”

Said Mosley: “There’s not to much to say to the critics. Say what you say. I’m just thankful and grateful I have the opportunity to get in the ring and fight for a world title again.”

In one of 2007’s most highly-anticipated fights, Cotto and Mosley gave fight fans everything they expected and more. The two battled back and forth for 12 fast-paced rounds, exchanging explosive shots before Cotto pulled out a close, but unanimous decision to retain his WBA Welterweight title for the third time.

Previously only known to the hardcore fight crowd, Trout announced his arrival to the rest of the world in February of 2011, when he traveled to Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico to defeat the favored hometown favorite Alvarez and capture his first world championship belt.
