TRIO OF EXPLOSIVE MATCHUPS ROUND OUT JAKE PAUL VS. TYRON WOODLEY SHOWTIME PPV® FIGHT CARD ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 29

NEW YORK (August 2, 2021) – Three more exciting matchups have been finalized for the highly-anticipated Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley SHOWTIME PPV fight card. Former world champion Ivan Barancyhk will compete along with U.K. stars Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois and Tommy “TNT” Fury makingtheir U.S. debuts in separate bouts on Sunday, August 29 from Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio.

The five-fight SHOWTIME PPV telecast will begin at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and be headlined by renowned content creator and undefeated professional boxer Jake “The Problem Child” Paul taking on the toughest challenge of his young career in the former UFC champion Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley. The card also features the previously announced world championship showdown between Puerto Rican star and WBC/WBO Featherweight World Champion Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano and super bantamweight world champion Yamileth Mercado of Mexico, which will serve as the co-featured bout.

A former junior welterweight world champion, Baranchyk will step into the ring to face the unbeaten Cleveland-native Montana Love in a 10-round showdown on the pay-per-view. Baranchyk seeks another run at the 140-pound title, while Love looks to score a career-best win.

The hard-hitting heavyweight Dubois, who is ranked No. 1 by the WBA, will face Joe Cusumano in a 10-round matchup, and Fury, the younger brother of heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury, will square off against combat sports veteran Anthony “Pretty Boy” Taylor in a six-round, 180-pound catchweight fight to open the pay-per-view telecast.

Additional action at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse includes top-10 ranked junior middleweight and 2016 U.S. Olympian Charles Conwell taking on Lucas Bastida of Argentina in a 10-round fight. Paul, Love and Conwell will be fighting critical bouts in front of their hometown fans at the Cleveland arena.

Tickets starting at $45 are still available via RocketMortgageFieldHouse.com. The event is co-produced by SHOWTIME PPV and Most Valuable Promotions and promoted by Tony and Bryce Holden of Holden Productions. The pay-per-view telecast is produced and distributed by SHOWTIME PPV. Barstool Sportsbook is the official sports betting partner for the event and will be incorporated in a unique, fully integrated brand activation that is to be announced in more detail.

The Belarusian Baranchyk now fights out of Oklahoma and will look to move closer to another world title opportunity with a win August 29. Sporting a 20-2 record with 13 knockouts, the 28-year-old returns to the ring after fighting in the 2020 Fight of the Year against Jose Zepeda last October. The two fighters combined to score a staggering eight knockdowns in the instant classic won by Zepeda. Baranchyk became a world champion in 2018 by stopping then unbeaten Anthony Yigit in seven rounds. He steps in against Love, a graduate of the ShoBox: The New Generation series who owns a 15-0-1 record with seven knockouts. A highly accomplished amateur, Love will be fighting in his hometown of Cleveland for the second time in his career.

“This is a big step for me,” said Baranchyk. “I am grateful to get back in the ring with someone like Montana after my loss. I want to show everyone that I’m back, I’m stronger, and I’m a new version of myself. I want to thank my fans for the support you’ve always given me. On August 29, it’s SHOWTIME, baby!”

“I know Ivan is a strong young fighter, but he has some ugly habits,” said Love. “We’re having a grueling camp right now and I’m going to keep it ‘Too Pretty’ on fight night. Cleveland deserves the show I’m about to put on.”

A promising heavyweight contender at 23 years old, Dubois has compiled a 16-1 record with 15 knockouts since turning pro in 2017. Dubois had an impressive amateur career as a five-time British junior national champion. A London-native, Dubois’ lone professional loss came against top heavyweight contender Joe Joyce in November 2020. Dubois rebounded quickly with an emphatic second-round knockout of Bogdan Dinu in June to capture the Interim WBA Heavyweight Title. Now, he takes on the 33-year-old Cusumano, who has won four of his last five bouts with all of those victories coming by stoppage. With a record of 19-3, his 17 knockouts give him an impressive 77% KO ratio. Fighting out of Danville, Virginia, Cusumano most recently knocked out Gregory Corbin in November 2020.

“I am ready now to push on and build on the WBA interim title I won in my last fight,” said Dubois. “I am thrilled to take the show on the road and look to win the American public over. I am told the American public love heavyweight boxing, so it is time to introduce them to Daniel Dubois. I will make sure it is a name they won’t forget.”

Already a crossover star after his runner-up finish on the hit U.K. reality TV show “Love Island”, Fury will look to follow in the footsteps of his boxing-rich family and establish his own championship legacy. The 23-year-old from Manchester is 6-0 with four knockouts, having most recently earned a unanimous decision over Jordan Grant in June. Fury will be opposed by Alameda, California’s Taylor, an experienced MMA competitor who dropped his sole pro boxing appearance in 2017 by split-decision. The 32-year-old’s MMA experience includes five Bellator fights and a 7-5 overall record with wins in his last five fights. Taylor is currently training in Puerto Rico and is a regular sparring partner of Jake Paul as he prepares for his bout against Woodley.

“American fans can, as always with me, expect a big dirty knockout,” said Fury. “That is what I say and that is what I try to bring. I want to put on a masterclass performance and show levels again and show how much I am improving. This is another step on my journey to world titles.”

NATHAN HEANEY COULD HAVE SOLD EVEN MORE TICKETS – THANKS TO TOMMY FURY’S LOOKS

NATHAN HEANEY says he could have sold 2000 tickets for his next fight, with added interest coming once Stoke’s female contingent got wind of Tommy Fury’s involvement.

Stoke-on-Trent’s massive ticket seller is back at Telford International Centre on Saturday June 5 when he meets Bulgarian Iliyan Markov (6-14-2, 3 KOs), live on BT Sport.

COVID restrictions have limited Heaney’s promoters Queensberry on the number of fans allowed into the venue, and just 1000 can attend.

Heaney (11-0, 3 KOs) grabbed 600 tickets and was besieged by supporters who wanted to be at his first fight in front of fans for 15 months.

They will make the 30 mile trip in a convoy of coaches that are leaving from Stoke City’s stadium.

Heaney, 32, who outpointed Ryan Oliver behind closed doors in February revealed “I have sold 600 tickets. I could easily have shifted 1500 tickets and perhaps 2000.

“About 400 women wanted to go when they discovered Tommy Fury was on the bill, but they missed out this time.

“I gave first option to everyone who went to my last fight where fans were allowed. I privately messaged everyone who went to my contest against Christian Schembri last year.

“I let them know a few days before the fight was announced and they put their names down first. The allocation was gone in an instant and I now have a waiting list of 500 people.

“I want to get on Frank Warren’s big shows. I love representing my city and I want to give my Stoke lot some great nights on BT Sport shows.

“On June 5, Frank will see the atmosphere I can bring. I am not even the main feature. Daniel Dubois is the headliner. Tommy Fury will be the main feature. I am a side act.

“Make no mistake on the night you will think I am the headliner. That isn’t my doing, it is those who support me. It is scary how loyal they are.”

When Heaney turned professional in 2017 he immediately adopted Stoke City anthem ‘Delilah’, as his walk out music and admits he wasn’t quite Tom Jones.

But as the ticket sales mushroomed the singing improved and the reception has got more raucous from his fellow Stoke City fans.

Heaney who never misses a home match at the Bet365 stadium said: “This all kicked off from my third fight when I boxed on a Channel 5 card.

“My fight wasn’t screened but during the broadcast all you could hear was my fans singing the Stoke City anthem, Delilah.

“Nobody watching knew the reason why. At the next Stoke City home game a few lads said they wanted to come to the next fight and it has taken off.

“I have always done that walk out even in an empty Kings Hall, but one day knew it could look really, really good and full of Stoke lads

“It has really captured the imagination and it’s the guys that follow me who created it, not me.

“Once there was only about 60 people there and I hadn’t finessed the walk, but I still walked into the hall singing Delilah at the top of my voice.

“By the time I beat Tom Stokes for the Midlands title in my seventh fight it was really taking off and since then it has snowballed.”

Fury v Grant is on a bill that is headlined by Daniel Dubois (15-1, 14 KOs) who challenges Bogdan Dinu (20-2, 16 KOs) for the vacant WBA interim Heavyweight title.

Belfast’s Middleweight Caoimhin Agyarko (8-0, 5 KOs) is back and will be aiming for his fifth successive inside the distance win when he boxes Mexican Ernesto Olvera (11-6-1, 3 KOs)

Stoke-on-Trent’s hugely popular Middleweight Nathan Heaney (11-0, 3 KOs) has his second fight under the Queensberry banner when he meets Bulgarian Iliyan Markov (6-14-2, 3 KOs).

Unbeaten English Bantamweight champion Liam Davies (8-0, 3 KOs) faces Bulgaria’s Stefan Slavchev (11-38-2, 4 KOs).

Featherweight Adan Mohamed (1-0) boxes a four rounder against Luke Fash (2-59-2).

Also on the show is 18-year-old decorated amateur George Bance who makes his professional debut after signing with Queensberry.

JORDAN GRANT PROMISES TO GIVE TOMMY FURY THE SHOCK OF HIS LIFE

UNBEATEN Jordan Grant believes Tommy Fury will get the shock of his life this weekend.

The Love Island star faces a step up in class when he meets Grant (2-0) in a Light-Heavyweight four rounder at Telford International Centre on Saturday night (June 5), live on BT Sport.

Grant’s all-action style promises to make it a tough night for Fury (5-0, 4 KOs) who trained in Miami for the bout alongside his big brother, WBC World Heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury.

Hamilton’s Grant who boxed as an amateur and from the age of 15 fought more than 20 times on the unlicensed circuit warned: “I am not a road fighter.

“This is a big opportunity against a well known opponent who I think I have the tools to beat.

“You have to take these opportunities to move forward and it will do a lot of good for my career if I cause an upset.

“If I win I will always be known as the man who beat the guy from Love Island who is Tyson Fury’s brother, but I am there to show my skills.

“I will go down there and leave everything in the ring. I don’t want to be another number on his record. I am going down there to keep my zero.

“I think the pressure got to Tommy’s team and they needed to move up and fight a better opponent. It is about that time to take the leap for Tommy, anyway.

“I have always told my manager Sam Kynoch that if any 50-50 fights are offered I am happy to take them, and this is proof.

“You don’t have a long time boxing so while you are in it, you better do the best you can and get the best fights you can so you can push forward.”

While Fury can afford to set up expensive American training camps, his Scottish opponent works seven days a week and trains in the evening.

But there is no jealousy towards Fury who has the backing of Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren besides his reality TV fame and a world famous family name.

Grant, 23, explained: “I respect any fighter and I am not one for talking Tommy down.

“He has done very well for himself and got the TV exposure so fair play to him. It is a hard enough sport so if there is a way to get your name out there and get sponsors do it.

“These guys get paid to train and sponsored so there is a total difference to me. I have two jobs to keep my family.

“I am out digging holes during the day. I am also a qualified tiler so I do that at the weekend. Most of the time it is a seven day working week and training in the evening.

“This fight will help my career take off and I might get the backing to become a full-time boxer, get the best fights and put on the best show.”

Fury v Grant is on a bill that is headlined by Daniel Dubois (15-1, 14 KOs) who challenges Bogdan Dinu (20-2, 16 KOs) for the WBA interim Heavyweight title.

TIME TO PLAY ‘THE GAME’ – TOMMY FURY TACKLES UNDEFEATED FOE

TOMMY FURY WILL take on the unbeaten Scot Jordan Grant as he bids to clock up half a dozen wins in the professional ranks at the Telford International Arena on Saturday, live on BT Sport.

The 23-year-old Hamilton man, known as ‘The Game’, holds a current record of 2-0, having turned professional in November 2019. ‘TNT’ Fury, 22, has scored four speedy knockout victories in his five pro fights to date.

Fury v Grant is part of the supporting cast to the main event of Daniel Dubois (15-1, 4 KOs) colliding with the Romanian Bogdan Dinu (20-2, 16 KOs) with the WBA Interim heavyweight title belt on the line.

Unfortunately, Marcio Soza – Archie Sharp’s scheduled opponent for his WBO Global super featherweight title fight – tested positive for Covid-19 and the fight will be re-booked for a July date.

Elsewhere on the card, Nathan Heaney (11-0, 5KOs) will have the backing of some 600 fans from Stoke when he battles for a dozen wins as a pro against the Bulgarian Iliyan Markov (6-14-2, 3 KOs) in his second event as a Queensberry middleweight.

Also at 160lbs, Caoimhin Agyarko (8-0, 5 KOs) from Belfast will continue to pick up experience as he moves towards title contention with an eight-rounder against the Mexican Ernesto Olvera (11-6-1, 3 KOs).

The English bantamweight champion Liam Davies (8-0, 3 KOs) – a native of Telford – will have his first fight since signing with Queensberry and goes up against the Bulgarian Stefan Slavchev (11-38-2, 4 KOs) over six rounds.

Super bantamweight prospect Adan Mohamed (1-0) has his second professional fight against Luke Fash (2-59-2) and former amateur knockout artist George Bance makes his professional debut over four rounds at super lightweight.

Coverage from the Telford International Arena begins from 7pm live on BT Sport 1

TOMMY FURY THINKS DANIEL DUBOIS WILL BE ‘BACK STRONGER’

TOMMY FURY has leapt to the defence of Queensberry stablemate Daniel Dubois and backed him to bounce ‘back stronger’ from his injury setback.

Dubois suffered his only career defeat against Joe Joyce in ten rounds last November when he took a knee having suffered a broken eye socket.

He has now been cleared to fight by doctors and Dubois (15-1, 14KOs) headlines on Saturday June 5 when he challenges Romanian Bogdan Dinu (20-2, 16 KOs) for the vacant WBA interim Heavyweight title, live on BT Sport.

Fury, 22, is in action on the same bill and told host Dev Sahni on Queensberry’s The Lowdown: “I wasn’t in Daniel’s position. I’m not in that fight. You can only answer those things when you’ve been in that position yourself.

“I’m not gonna sit here after five professional fights, all four rounders saying what I would do in that scenario with a broken eye socket.

“I’d like to think I know what I’d do, but when you’re in that scenario it is a different story.

“Health is before wealth and I think Billy Joe Saunders did the right thing and lives to fight another day.

“I think Daniel is going to come back stronger with a knockout and back in the mix for some great fights. He just needs to keep building.

“It is so good to be on the undercard of such a good main event. It is a privilege to be on the card. I’m just looking forward to showing my skills on the night and what I’ve been learning.”

Fury (5-0, 4KOs) is wrapping up training for his contest next month with older brother Tyson Fury in Miami.

It’s looking increasingly likely that WBC World Heavyweight champion Fury will face Deontay Wilder for the third time later this summer.

If that happens, young Tommy fancies making it a family double on the undercard by meeting Wilder’s brother Marsellos.

He added: “That fight would make headlines. It would be a privilege to fight on Tyson’s undercard and both of us getting victories.

“I am up for that fight. I am up for anything. I am over here training, in shape so whatever comes I will be ready for.

“I’ll have a piece of him. I called him out before and he never replied.”

Daniel Dubois (15-1, 14KOs) returns to the ring on Saturday June 5 when he takes on Bogdan Dinu (20-2, 16KOs) for the WBA Interim heavyweight title. Light heavyweight favourite Tommy Fury is also in action in his sixth fight as a professional.

WBO ranked number four featherweight, Archie Sharp (19-0, 9 KOs) returns in his first fight under new trainer Alan Smith, while Belfast Middleweight Caoimhin Agyarko (8-0, 5 KOs) will be aiming for his fifth successive inside the distance win. Stoke-on-Trent’s huge popular middleweight Nathan Heaney (11-0, 3 KOs) has his second fight under the Queensberry banner when he meets Bulgarian Iliyan Markov (6-14-2, 3 KOs).

Also on the show are unbeaten English bantamweight champion Liam Davies (8-0, 3 KOs), featherweight Adan Mohamed (1-0)  and 18-year-old decorated amateur George Bance, who makes his professional debut after signing with Queensberry.

“I’D BREAK HIS JAW ON SIGHT” – TOMMY FURY ON JAKE PAUL

TOMMY FURY has warned Jake Paul to be ready for a trip to the dentist if they ever meet each other.

American YouTuber, Paul and the unbeaten Light-Heavyweight hope have been filling each other in with verbal taunts, but haven’t come across each other in Miami where both are holed up.

Love Island sensation Fury is there training alongside brother Tyson preparing for his sixth professional fight in Telford on Saturday June 5, live on BT Sport.

Paul moved to Miami recently and has reportedly signed a deal for Showtime to screen his fights, after winning three celebrity boxing matches and reckons Tommy is on his radar.

Earlier this month Jake sparked a brawl at the press conference to announce his brother, Logan’s bout against Floyd Mayweather.

He confronted the all-time great and then snatched a baseball cap from his head leading to chaotic scenes.

Fury dubbed a “spoon-fed reality star” by Jake promised it would have been even nastier had the internet star attempted the stunt he pulled with Mayweather on him.

Tommy said: “If Jake Paul tried to take my cap I’d break his jaw and nose on sight. He’d have no teeth left. I’d knock them straight down his throat.

“I’d run after him and give him the worst beating he has had in his life and see what the YouTuber thinks then.

“Floyd is a good businessman and one of the best fighters ever. He can’t be giving his full mindset to Jake Paul, a YouTuber.

“But, If I was in Mayweather’s position and someone came to my event and started playing up they’d be getting it, cameras or no cameras.

“My last opponent Scott Williams would take Jake Paul out of there in two rounds. He is an actual fighting man, fighting all his life and knows what it is like to take a crack.”

Fury returns home next week and doesn’t expect Paul to come anywhere near him even though they are a few miles apart in the Magic City.

He added: “Our paths haven’t crossed because the man is s**t scared. If you’re very intimidated by somebody you’re not going to cross their paths — you’re going to stay 100 miles plus away from them.

“He most probably knows my location, written on a piece of paper X, X, X and said to himself; ’Can’t go there. It’s out of bounds for the next two weeks.’”

Last weekend Tommy, Tyson and the WBC World Heavyweight champion’s son Prince were VIP guests of WWE boss Vince McMahon at ‘Wrestlemania Backlash.’

Tyson who had a WWE match in 2019, Tommy and Prince met with McMahon and wrestling legends such as Paul Heyman, Ric Flair and Sheamus.

Tommy has revealed that once he has achieved his boxing goals and won a world title, the WWE will be his future.

He explained: “Wrestling has always been the number one sport of mine. I have always loved it just like every kid does.

“When I met the guys I hoped they were thinking; ‘sign him up’, because after boxing I definitely want to give it a go.

“I am sat down thinking; ‘I’ve shook hands with Vince McMahon and all the wrestlers I watched as a kid.”

“The experience was one of my top three ever because I have always wanted to do that. Crazy feeling — 22-years-old or not I will never get over that.

“One million, trillion per-cent that is what I want to do. Don’t get me wrong it is fun, but big men get injured in there and it is no game. I’m super athletic and it is right up my alley.”

BACK STRONGER: JUNE 5 DATE TAKING SHAPE

TOMMY FURY WILL join the party as fans make a welcome return to boxing for Daniel Dubois’ WBA Interim heavyweight title tilt against Bogdan Dinu on June 5.

Fury, 22, will have his sixth professional fight at light heavyweight following a training stint with brother Tyson in the USA. His five fights to date have spanned just 10 rounds and Fury has four successive quick stoppages to his name as he continues his ascent in the professional game.

For the first time since February 22, 2020, fight fans will be welcome through the doors of a Queensberry event – albeit with a limit of a thousand until the further easing of restrictions.

“It will be an absolute joy to have fans back in support of the fighters,” said promoter Frank Warren. “We have all done our best to keep the sport on track since we were able to return, but the missing ingredient that nobody was able to compensate for was the lack of atmosphere and buzz that surrounds a night at the boxing.

“Even though this is only the first step in people coming back to pack out venues, having a thousand in the arena will make such a difference and will also improve the spectacle for those tuning in to watch live on BT Sport.

“Tommy is proving himself to be an attraction and his performances so far have certainly caught the eye. He looks the part but, as he says himself, it is very early days for him and getting good rounds under his belt is paramount.”

Also back in action is WBO ranked number four Super-Featherweight, Archie Sharp (19-0, 9 KOs) who enters into his first fight under new trainer Alan Smith.

The Kent man is in a hurry to get a world title fight and believes he might get a crack at WBO champion Shakur Stevenson inside 12 months, while another option could be the eventual winner of the Cacace v Woodstock British title encounter.

Belfast’s Middleweight wrecking machine Caoimhin Agyarko (8-0, 5 KOs) is back and will be aiming for his fifth successive inside the distance win.

Stoke on Trent’s hugely popular Middleweight Nathan Heaney (11-0, 3 KOs) has his second fight under the Queensberry banner when he meets Bulgarian Iliyan Markov (6-14-2, 3 KOs).

Unbeaten English Bantamweight champion Liam Davies faces Manchester’s Stephen Jackson (1-1, 1 KO).

Powerhouse newcomer George Bance makes his professional debut against Plymouth’s hugely experienced Chris Adaway.

Warren added: “Obviously there will be a lot of attention on Daniel Dubois, but the rest of the card shows the strength in depth – and massive potential –  of our stable.

“I look at the young talent we have and the Queensberry team is getting stronger and stronger.”

KAROL ITAUMA TALKS TOMMY FURY, LIGHT-HEAVY LANDSCAPE AND BECOMING UNDISPUTED CHAMP

THE PROFESSIONAL AMBITIONS of Karol Itauma are not open to charges of ambiguity. The Olympic Youth gold medallist simply plans on ruling the light heavy mob.

‘Undisputed’ is the Itauma buzzword and the now 20-year-old even pencilled himself a little reminder to post by his bedside while growing up in Kent.

Also an eight-time national champion as an amateur, Itauma set off on his professional journey on short notice in December after willingly accepting an invitation to jump on big Lyndon Arthur-Anthony Yarde show in London.

He gave a good account of himself against the redoubtable Lewis van Poetsch, who was drafted in to get the storied amateur – who initially hails from Slovakia – off the mark in the pro ranks. Itauma will have a second outing, this time with a full preparation period, when he takes his place on the Denzel Bentley-Felix Cash British middleweight title card on April 24.

But Itauma has far grander plans for a glittering future of dominance in his division. He is setting his goals high and has every intention of reaching for the stars.

“That is my dream, undisputed champion,” said the 6ft 1″ southpaw, who was less emphatic over placing a timeframe on achieving such lofty heights. “From when I started boxing I had a little note by my bedside and the aim has always been to be undisputed and win those titles.

“I didn’t put a year alongside it because, in my opinion, if you put a date to it you could arguably start to rush things. You have to take your time with things like that and mature properly and develop.”

For now though, the Itauma development will continue at York Hall, where he will seek to demonstrate that preparation and practice make perfect.

“I wasn’t meant to box until this year, but when I got offered a debut on 10 days notice I wasn’t going to not take an opportunity I’d been given.

“In my opinion, obviously you are going to be in better shape – physically and mentally – after a four to six week training camp, rather than 10 days notice.

“It is all about the marginal gains and, if I had more time, I could have been better.

“I just look at this one coming up as a next fight and one I am taking very seriously. For me, it is all about learning, gaining experience, getting better and improving.”

Aside from the British and Commonwealth middleweight title showdown, there is a strong light heavyweight theme running throughout the April 24 bill. Callum Johnson makes his Queensberry return against the experienced Emil Markic, while Anthony Yarde will be bidding to get back to winning ways against the unbeaten German Emin Atra.

“Absolutely and it is obviously great to see the division thriving. They all have their strengths and weaknesses and are effective in their different ways.

“Tommy Fury is around too. At the moment we are on different tracks but I have to focus on myself and on getting better each day. In every fight I want you to be able to see an improvement,” added Itauma, who admits executing a spectacular finish does carry some appeal.

“A part of me does want it, but I am not the type of fighter to go in there and have that on my mind because that is when things go wrong. I just want to stick to the game plan and go from there.

“I feel like I need to get my foundations correct now, while I am learning and maturing. I am not a man yet so I need to get my fundamentals right first. Then when I do mature and get my man strength it will come together nicely.”

TOMMY FURY FULLY FOCUSED ON BOXING AHEAD OF RETURN THIS SATURDAY ON BT SPORT

TOMMY FURY believes his Dad’s “Rocky” style training will make him a knockout in the ring after soaring to stardom in reality show Love Island.

The younger brother of World Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury chases his fifth straight win as a professional on Saturday (February 27), live on BT Sport.

Fury, 21, has impressed in his four professional bouts so far and apart from his debut opponent in December 2018, nobody has lasted the distance.

His most recent three opponents have lasted less than nine minutes between them with his power impressive in each fight.

His Dad, ‘Gypsy’ John Fury has trained Tommy since his Love Island stint in 2019  and the Light-Heavyweight hope said: “He is very old fashioned with Rocky training methods.

If you’ve had a good day he’ll let you know you’ve had a good day. If you’ve had a bad day he’ll let you know you’ve had a bad day.

“It is what I need. If I’m doing something bad you have got someone telling you. If you’re told you’re doing all right every day you’ll never improve.”

Tommy (4-0) lives on the outskirts of Manchester with partner Molly-Mae Hague who he met on the ITV reality show, but a glitzy showbiz life is furthest from his mind right now.

He trains in Manchester at Anthony Farnell’s gym and also uses Jimmy Egan’s Boxing Academy where the Fury clan boxed as amateurs.

Every Friday, Tommy and his Dad head up to Morecambe to train alongside Tyson and his team.

Fury added: “As soon got off that plane at Manchester Airport after Love Island, I said that all I wanted to do was box.

“So we went to see Frank Warren and got the show the road.

“Love Island was great fun and brought me a lot of privileges, earned me money, but boxing outweighs the celebrity life by a mile.

“Boxing and the celebrity lifestyle doesn’t mix because to be a fighter and succeed you have to live like you’ve not earned anything in your life and not got anything.”

Despite having a celebrity lifestyle away from the ring and 3.2 million Instagram followers, Fury knows he has done little as a boxer

“I’m training like I’m challenger all the time and I still am,” he says.

“That’s the best part about it. I’ve not achieved anything in boxing and it’s not about the money.

“I’m not boxing for the money now. I can live the life I have now without boxing.

“This shows I’m not doing it for a few quid or to get my name out there. I’m doing it because I love the sport and I made a promise to myself that I’d be a World champion.

“It is a long hard road ahead. There will be a lot of good times, a lot of bad times but we’ll get there.

“I know times are hard, but I am just hoping that Frank can get me out as many times as possible this year, and I know I’m lucky to get out boxing at the moment.”

Tommy Fury returns this Saturday night, on a behind-closed-doors bill at London’s Copper Box Arena. The event is headed by Belfast’s Anthony Cacace (18-1) who makes the first defence of his British Super-Featherweight title against Leicester’s Lyon Woodstock (12-2).

Kaisy Khademi (8-0) bids to double his belt tally by adding the vacant IBF European Super-Flyweight crown to his WBO European title against Birmingham’s Ijaz Ahmed (7-2).

Stoke’s hugely popular Middleweight Nathan Heaney (10-0) takes on Manchester’s Ryan Oliver (7-2),  and thrilling Lightweight prospect Sam Noakes (4-0) going in against the unbeaten Delmar Thomas (5-0).

Three professional debuts complete the card, with ABA champion Masood Abdulah in action at Super-Featherweight along with Super-Lightweight  Amaar Akbar and  Adan Mohamed who will box at Super-Bantamweight.

QUEENSBERRY LOWDOWN: TOMMY FURY ADMITS FEELING ‘DEMORALISED’ AFTER TRAINING WITH SUGARHILL, READY TO SHOW IMPROVEMENTS ON NOVEMBER 13th

TOMMY FURY ADMITS his recent gruelling training sessions with SugarHill Steward have “opened his eyes” and insists he is excited to show the world the improvements he’s made to his game.

SugarHill, nephew of legendary ‘Kronk Gym’ trainer Emmanuel Steward, is credited with having helped mastermind Tyson Fury’s astonishing victory over Deontay Wilder in their rematch earlier this year.

With ‘The Gypsy King’ readying himself for a first homecoming defence of his WBC title in December, SugarHill was flown in to help oversee his camp and the younger Fury wasted no time in making sure he got some training time with the American.

“(I learnt) a lot of things,” said Tommy. “When you train with Sugar he strips you down to nothing and makes you feel like you’ve never boxed before in your entire life. That is how I was feeling. I felt demoralised. Every little thing I was doing, from my feet upwards, he was stopping me, correcting me – saying this is how you do this, this is how you do that.

“To spend a few weeks with him, just going through the same stuff, it’s really opened my eyes.

“Sugar is a world class technician, Tyson is not going to go wrong with him. No one can go wrong with SugarHill as he’s just got all that knowledge.”

Under the watchful eye of dad Big John Fury, Tommy returned to the ring after a stint on ITV’s Love Island in December last year. On that night he scored a huge first round KO and the 22-year-old Light Heavyweight can’t wait to show off the improvements he’s made with both his dad and SugarHill.

“My only aim now, when I get in that ring, is to show everybody that I’ve got different aspects to my game. I know it’s very early days (in my career), but I’ve not shown a glimmer of what I can do.

“Anyone can go in the ring and throw some punches, but on November 13th i’m going to show that i’ve got a lot in my game to go all the way. I’m going to box and move, I’m going to show my power and I just can’t wait to get in there now.”

Tommy returns on another huge night of boxing on BT Sport on November 13th – a show that will be headlined by the British Middleweight title bout between Battersea’s Denzel Bentley and Oldham’s Mark Heffron.

The two domestic Middleweights first met on September 12th, battling to a rare unanimous draw in what many consider to be the best fight of post-Lockdown British boxing.

Fury admits he’s happy to be sharing the bill on November 13th with such a highly anticipated scrap and like boxing fans up and down the country he’s struggling to pick a winner.

“I couldn’t really pick a winner last time, but I definitely can’t wait for the rematch!” he said, adding “and how much better is it that the British title is on the line?”

“That changes things. Whoever wins this is going to be British champion and that’s obviously a very big thing. I think it’s going to make for ten times more of a fight… you’re going to see the best out of both men.

Despite being the sibling of boxing’s biggest star, Tommy is ambitious in his own right and, seeing inspiration in the likes of Denzel Bentley and Mark Heffron, wants to be fighting for a British title before long.

Another Light Heavyweight showcase on November 13th is up first though, and Fury is pretty clear what fans can expect.
Asked his plans for his November foe, Fury laughed: “A big dirty knockout.

“You’re going to see thrills, it’s going to be a good fight. I can’t wait. I want to show everything I’ve been working on in the gym and I’m beaming with confidence. It’s going to be a good show, so definitely tune in.”

Tommy Fury returns on the bill of Heffron vs Bentley 2 – Friday November 13th, live on BT Sport.

Dubois captured British title honors in July with a fifth-round stoppage over fellow unbeaten Nathan Gorman and dominated Ebenezer Tetteh in 2:10 to pick up the vacant Commonwealth crown in September. Fujimoto (21-1, 13 KOs) is unbeaten in 16 fights dating back to 2012 and has won his last five via stoppage.

  • Former British amateur star David Adeleye will make his long-awaited professional debut in a four-round heavyweight contest against an opponent to be named.

“All Systems Go” for December Boxing Return as Tommy Fury declares “It’s all I want to do.”

AHEAD OF HIS HUGE RETURN on December 21st Tommy Fury has assured fans that he is 100% ready to get back in the ring.

At a media workout at the Henrietta Street Gym in Birmingham he said it was “all systems go” for his return and rubbished any idea that he might have stayed away from boxing for good. With his famous girlfriend Molly Mae-Hague looking on, Tommy told IFL TV that “a lot of people ask me why I’m doing it, why I’m going back to boxing. It’s because it makes me happy.”

“It’s all I want to do!”

He admitted that he’d had offers to capitalise on the good looks that brought him legions of fans throughout his stint on ITV’s Love Island but insisted “I’ve never wanted to be a model. I couldn’t care less.”

After an action packed workout which featured appearances from Sunny Edwards and Liam Williams, Tommy was put through his paces by dad John Fury.

When asked by IFL about his current training situation, and why former coach Ricky Hatton wasn’t present, he said his newfound celebrity status brought with it a schedule that made training tricky and only his dad was able to work around that.

“My schedule is so busy, I can’t make the same time every day. I have other commitments.”He continued “Life is not the same as it was 6 or 7 months ago. It’s very different and I’m fortunate to have my dad there as he helps train me around my hard schedule.”

“It is hard, not everybody can adapt to the schedule but my dad has.”

After a long layoff, during which time he has become a reality TV star and household name, questions of ring rust are only natural but Tommy is adamant he is approaching the fight like a true professional.

He said “I’ve been out the ring for 10 months living the life of a rockstar but I’ve trained hard for this. There’s no lying about it, I’ve trained hard.”

Clearly buoyed by the success of his brother Tyson, who he revealed would be ringside for the fight, Tommy vowed to treat all of his fights like a World Title fight.

And when asked for a prediction for Tyson’s next fight, an actual World Title fight, he was clear there was only going to be one winner: “Deontay (Wilder) can’t live in Tyson’s world.”

But that is a question for 2020, for now fans are ready to see what’s going on in Tommy’s World when he returns to the Light Heavyweight Division on December 21st at the Copper Box Arena.

Tickets for Dubois vs Fujimoto, plus the return of Tommy Fury, are now on sale via Seetickets and via Ticketmaster

Today’s hosts for the media workout were the Henrietta Street Gym in Birmingham, ran by former professional Heavyweight Neil Perkins. The workout was held in association with the JQ Community Project, an initiative spearheaded by Neil to help keep local kids on the right track.

In his own words:

“Our JQ Community Boxing project piloted this September and it’s been a huge success. We have been running an after school club for the local Jewellery Quarter Academy. The catchment area for this school and the others in the city centre is very much deprived communities predominantly from the black and Kurdish community.

The project has been an eye opener from me as to the level of deprivation in the city. Many of these children are failing academically and we are giving them an incentive to stay in education, equally they all complete a sports leaders award and upon completion suitable candidates will be invited into the JQ Amateur Boxing Club.

The Project was a joint idea bewteen myself and the then Deputy Head Teacher at the school, Iffy Islam. It was generously funded by local  property developer Patrick O’Donnell. We never envisaged the level of impact it would have or were prepared for the possible outcomes. We have children ready to move into the amateurs off this project and they will end up competing.”

THE FIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS | OFFICIAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES FROM FRANK WARREN, DANIEL DUBOIS AND TOMMY FURY

FRANK WARREN today revealed details of Queensberry Promotions’ bumper ‘The Fight Before Christmas’ show at London’s Copper Box Arena on Saturday December 21.

The world’s number one heavyweight prospect Daniel Dubois (13-0, 12KOs) tops the bill when he defends his WBO International heavyweight title against Kyotaro Fujimoto (21-1, 13KOs).

The WBC Silver belt will also be on the line giving Dubois an opportunity to win a ninth professional title in his 14th professional fight.

Dubois has already captured WBC Youth, Southern Area, English, WBO European, WBO Global, British, WBO International and Commonwealth titles, but faces a hard night against the world ranked Japanese star.

Unbeaten light-heavyweight hopeful Tommy Fury (2-0, 1 KO) returns after his successful stint on Love Island where he finished runner-up with his girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague.

Details of further brilliant fights will be announced in the coming days.

Photos of today’s press conference are available on this link with credit to Reuters/Action Images.

Here are a selection of quotes from today’s press conference at BT Tower in London’s West End.

FRANK WARREN:

“Fujimoto is ranked 12 by the WBA, has a good record and this is a fight that will get Daniel a lot of exposure as we strive to make him a global brand.

“We are working on making Daniel a number one contender with a governing body. I will get him there.

“I loved what I saw of Daniel as a senior amateur, but what he has done as a professional has been punch perfect. At this stage of his career he is the best young heavyweight I have seen in British boxing.

“He is in love with boxing. His mission is to become unified world champion and he will do it. I could make a world title fight tomorrow and he would win, but he needs that little bit more experience. When he wins a world title it is about making sure he keeps it.

“This time next year he is going to do the business (in a world title). And next year there could also be a collision with Joe Joyce.

“Tommy will go much further than KSI as a boxer. He has a great future. There is a lot of pressure through Love Island, but he is confident and mature enough to deal with that. He has a career and it’s my job to deliver and guide him so he can achieve his dreams. If he keeps his side of the bargain and trains we can go on.

I am delighted he is back. He came into the sport as the brother of Tyson and now he is his own man. It will be a cracking card and a Christmas present for the fans.”

DANIEL DUBOIS

“I am very happy. My career has been perfect so far and I have progressed in and out of the ring. I am with Frank Warren who is one of the best promoters ever and there is my Dad, Martin and Tony Bowers. We are going all the way. My trainer Martin has organised so much and puts in so much hard work. I am going to make sure I become a success.

“It is coming together and in each camp I have improved. If I can get to a world title challenge soon I am more than ready. Timing is everything. I will continue winning in style and I will get there soon. It is a hell of a challenge against Fujimoto, but I will be ready and take him out in devastating fashion.

“The boxing audience is taking notice and that is down to the hard work we put in. I’m ready for the next step. I love the recognition. It is what I have been after since I was five-years-old. My feet are on the ground. I just stick to what I am good at and remain humble.

“I have been a student of this sport since I was young. I am obsessed by it all. The sport is filled with great fighters and I want to be a legend when I have finished.

“Fear is an asset for me. It’s a weapon and I use it in every fight.”

TOMMY FURY:

“It is good to be back after Love Island and life is good. I feel at home when I’m in the squared circle. Fame is one thing, but it is how you cope with it. You can let it go to your head and run around thinking you’re too good for everybody. But, you are the same as everybody. It’s just that a few more people want to take your picture or get a signature. I am still the same man as I was before Love Island – the same lad who was boxing on the Josh Warrington-Carl Frampton undercard.

“There are a lot of avenues that I could have taken since I did Love Island, but you have to ask if these things are making you happy. TV is great, but I am happiest when I am fighting. It is in my blood. I am a fighting man and here to prove it.

“I have been training my heart out for a few weeks, because after the last few months I’ve had to. I know what it takes and I am doing it every day in the gym.

“I watched the YouTubers fight at the weekend and I admire them both because it takes a man to get in the ring. I heard KSI wants to fight again and I am here if he wants to fight me. They had no boxing experience, trained their balls off for ten weeks, got in the ring and had a fight so I have nothing but respect.

“Just 12 months ago, I had 3000 followers and only known in my local kebab shop. Now I’m pushing on for three million followers.  I’m still the little boy who grew up in Salford. I don’t think I am too good for anybody.

“I am here to do the best I can. I want to bring a new audience to boxing as a lot of those there on December 21 will not have been to a boxing show before.

“Molly loves me boxing and watches it on YouTube. She is throwing combinations in the mirror every day. I have the right people around me and I just have to do the work in the gym.

“I think my brother Tyson will be there. To have the best heavyweight in the world sitting ringside makes you want to dig deep. Tyson is a worldwide superstar doing boxing, MMA and wrestling. Why not? Nothing is guaranteed in life. I would wrestle in a heartbeat. I have wanted to do that all along.

“I take every day as it comes, but I wouldn’t be in boxing if I couldn’t reach the top. If I didn’t believe I could be a world champion I wouldn’t do it. One day I will be holding all the belts.

Unbeaten Heavyweight sensation Daniel Dubois (13-0) looks to continue his path of destruction against Japan’s Kyotaro Fujimoto (21-1). The WBC Silver Heavyweight championship and the WBO International Heavyweight belts will be on the line.

TOMMY FURY BACK IN THE FOLD

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT AND Love Island star Tommy Fury will make his much-anticipated return to the ring on December 21 at the Copper Box Arena, live on BT.

The smooth-talking and strapping 20-year-old charmed the watching millions on the ITV2 hit show after entering the group and ultimately partnering up with his now girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague.

Fury placed his boxing career on pause to take part in the romantic reality show, having clocked up two wins since turning professional in December 2018, marking the occasion with a win over Jevgenijs Andrejevs in his hometown of Manchester.

He followed up his debut victory with a first round stoppage of Callum Ide in Leicester before swapping punching for Reality TV and topping up his tan on the Spanish island of Majorca over an eight-week period.

Despite his growing celebrity status, Fury has always maintained that his priority will always remain the sport of boxing and he will take the next step in his career in London against an opponent to be confirmed shortly.

“I am delighted to welcome Tommy back into the fold on our huge end-of-year show at the Copper Box,” said promoter Frank Warren.

“Tommy is a young man so taking a little bit of time out to pursue a television experience will have done him no harm at all and we always felt certain that he would be back in the ring sooner rather than later.

“In this day and age it is important for boxers to project their personalities to the public and Tommy is now one of the best known young fighters in the business.

“Now he has got to turn his mind back to what he does best and that is boxing. I am sure his new army of fans will be supporting him every step of the way.”

Further details of Tommy Fury’s return to the ring on December 21 will be revealed at a press conference on Monday, at which he will be in attendance along with main event attraction and Heavyweight star Daniel ‘Dynamite’ Dubois.

Tickets will be on sale on Monday at 12pm via Seeticketsand Ticketmaster.

BROTHERS TYSON AND TOMMY FURY CLASH OVER YARDE V KOVALEV

THE FURY BROTHERS, Tyson and Tommy, came up with a split decision when asked to assess the prospects of Anthony Yarde dethroning WBO light heavyweight king Sergey Kovalev when the pair collide in Krusher’s home town of Chelyabinsk in Russia on August 24.

Heavyweight ruler Tyson, a devout student of the sport, placed himself firmly in the corner of Yarde, the mandatory challenger who has notched up 18 wins, with 17 of them coming via brutal KO.

The lineal champion believes the time is right for a young, hungry lion to overthrow the long-standing leader of the light heavyweight pride.

“I fancy Anthony Yarde,” stated Tyson, who faces Otto Wallin in Las Vegas on September 14. “I really do fancy Yarde. I think Kovalev is on the slide.

“He has been a good world champion in his time and has done very well, but I think the Andre Ward losses have done him really, although he lost that fight to (Eleider) Alvarez and then came back and beat him.

“I think a young man will always beat an older one and that has always been my motto. I fancy Anthony Yarde to knock him out, not just beat him on points, stop him.

“Because that is what he needs to do in Russia anyway. It will only make his career better when he wins away from home. I’ve been all over and kept winning. If you’re any good, you’ll win, and if you’re not, you’ll lose, simple as.

“Home advantage means nothing to me but it does to a lot of people because they are not natural fighting men. Some people can’t fight off their own soil, but I can because it was bred in me.

“So we are going to see what Anthony Yarde is made of and I think he’ll do it. A good young man should beat a good older one. I believe he’ll do it and I believe he’ll be a good world champion.”

Love Island inhabitant and fellow light heavyweight Tommy suspects Yarde might just be biting off more than he can chew in bidding to knock Kovalev off his world championship perch.

“It is a very, very good fight for Yarde and I think he deserves it,” commented the 2-0 20-year-old. “His time has come and I hope to God he can pull it off because he is from here and we’ve got to support our own.

“As far as the actual fight is concerned, it is a huge task. If he is going to beat him at any time it is going to be now because he is on the downfall and has been for quite a long time. So I am pretty sure he is going to be at his most vulnerable.

“But, listen, big props to him if he can pull it off, but my money would be on Kovalev because he has mixed it at a higher level and fought much better fighters.

“Obviously I hope Yarde can pull it off, but I just don’t see it happening.”

Kovalev v Yarde on August 24 can be seen exclusively live on BT Sport

LOVE ISLAND TOMMY BACKING GORMAN TO EVICT DUBOIS

LOVE ISLAND hunk Tommy Fury reckons it will be a g-lovely night for Nathan Gorman when he faces Daniel Dubois in their heavyweight blockbuster next week.

Dubois (11-0, 10 KOs) and Gorman (16-0, 11 KOs) clash for the vacant British title on Frank Warren’s ‘Heavy Duty’ bill at London’s o2 Arena on Saturday July 13, live on BT Sport.

Fury has found a winner in the villa by coupling up with Molly-Mae, but insists Nantwich’s Gorman will be a knockout in the ring and upset Dubois.

Tommy who is 2-0 as a light heavyweight said: “There is nothing Daniel Dubois does to throw Nathan off.

“I am not just saying it, but I believe it will be an easy fight for Nathan.

“If we’re being serious about it, what does Daniel do? He comes forward one-two and throws a couple of hooks.

“Nathan will become a world champion. Have you ever seen a heavyweight with speed like that before?

“Look what he did to Sean Turner. Sean is a good fighter, but Nathan made it look like it was Sean’s first fight.

“It’s all about levels, especially in the heavyweight division. You can’t just rely on power which a lot of heavyweights do.

“Nathan has got the speed, agility and he can move. For my money Nathan is going all the way 100 per-cent.”

Fury the younger brother of lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, trains alongside Gorman at Ricky Hatton’s gym.

Unless Tommy’s time in Love Island comes to an unexpected end he will not be ringside to cheer on Gorman, a distant relative on his father’s side of the family.

Although he expects Gorman to win the showdown that has split fight fans, he knows that Dubois is capable of landing knockout shots.

He added: “Daniel doesn’t really move his head. He is a basic heavyweight, but he is a big puncher and you have to be cautious.

“You can’t go in there thinking it’s gonna be easy because he can put your lights out in seconds. He is a big man and if you get hit on the chin by anybody over 15 stone you’re going down.

“So what can a big man like that do? You have to be cautious, but I see Nathan winning easily and convincingly.”

Tickets for ‘Heavy Duty’ featuring Daniel Dubois v Nathan Gorman for the vacant British Heavyweight Title, plus Olympic silver medallist Joe Joyce v Bryant Jennings are on sale now. The show also features British Middleweight champion Liam Williams who clashes against France’s former European champion Karim Achour for the vacant WBC Silver middleweight crown. Super-flyweight sensation Sunny Edwards meets Mexican Hiram Gallardo for the vacant IBF super-flyweight title. WBO super-featherweight champion Archie Sharp risks his crown against Jordan McCorry. Warrington decisions Frampton to retain Featherweight title

Josh Warrington won a 12-round unanimous decision over former world champion Carl Frampton to retain the IBF Featherweight title at The Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.

Warrington came out like gangbisters and he threw and landed punches with reckless abandon.  Warrington dominated the first half of the fight with sheer volume.  Frampton showed a champions class as he fought his way back in the fight, and made it very tight on the scorecards bt landing right counters over the combinations of Warrington.

Warrington built up too much of a lead, and held on by scores of 116-113 and 116-112.

Warrington, 125.9 lbs of Leeds, UK is 28-0.  Frampton, 125.9 lbs of Belfast, IRE is 26-2

Liam Williams stopped previously undefeated Mark Heffron in round 10 of a scheduled 12 round middleweight fight.

In round two, Williams was cut over the right eye from a clash of heads.  Williams dominated the action as he will able to land his right hand at will.

In round two, Williams landed a big shot that drove Heffron into the ropes, which was ruled a knockdown.  Williams followed that up with an onslaught of punches, and the fight was stopped at 1:55

Williams, 159.9 lbs of Wales is 19-2-1 with 14 knockouts.  Heffron, 157.9 ls 21-1.

Hassan N’Dam won a 12-round majority decision over Martin Murray in a middleweight contest.

At the end of round four, Murray landed an overhand right that sent N’Dam down in the corner.  But N’Dam was able to survive that and box and move his way to a points victory by scores of 117-112, 116-112 and 114-114.

N’Dam, 157.9 lbs of France is now 37-3.  Murray, 159.9 lbs of England is 37-5-1.

Michael Conlan remained undefeated with a 10-round unanimous decision over Jason Cunningham in a featherweight bout.

In round six, Conlan was deducted a point for a low blow, but Conlan dominated the action, and won by scores of 98-92 and 97-92 twice

Conlan, 125.9 lbs of Ireland is 10-0.  Cunningham, 124.9 lbs of England is 24-6.

On his performance against Cunningham

“I made some mistakes in there, but it was a learning experience. It was the first time I went 10 rounds. I felt comfortable in there going the distance, and I got the job done.”

“At the end of the day, it’s another win in the bank. I’m very happy.”

On almost finishing Cunningham in the 10th round

“I thought I had him going, but I couldn’t get him out of there. He did very well to survive. I hit him with some good shots, but he’s a smart fighter and he knew how to survive. If I had a couple more rounds, I think I could have had him out of there.”

On his 2018 campaign

“I’ve progressed. I’ve gone from prospect to contender. I still have a few questions to answer, but I’m happy with the way things are going.”

On what’s next

“I’m going to be back at Madison Square Garden on March 17 for St. Patrick’s Day. Then, we want to come back to Belfast in the summer with a fight in between. I’m not sure who is next, but I want to keep stepping up.”

Nathan Gorman remained undefeated with a 12-round unanimous decision over former world title challenger Razvan Cojanu in a heavyweight bout.

Gorman, 238.1 lbs won by scores of 120-108 and 119-109 twice, and is now 15-0.  Cojanu, 273.1 lbs of Burbank, CA is now 16-5.

Tyson Fury’s brother, Tommy Fury made a successful pro debut with a decision win over trial horse Jevgenis Andrejevs.

Fury, 178.8 lbs won by  a 40-36 scores and is 1-0.  Andrejevs of Lativa is 10-103-3.

FURY READY TO ROCK IN MANCHESTER

IT TOOK JUST 12 amateur fights for Tommy Fury to reach the conclusion that following in the family footsteps was the direction for him to travel.

The younger brother of lineal world heavyweight champion Tyson makes his professional debut on Saturday night at the Manchester Arena at the age of just 19.

Fury has been patiently learning his trade over the last year, developing his skills first in the gym of Pat Barrett and now with Ricky Hatton at the Hyde base used by Tyson when training in the UK.

He should be well prepared for all eventualities in the professional game, given that he has been right in the thick of training camps involving Tyson and cousin Hughie over the years and has seen first-hand what it takes to reach the very top.

However, it still seems to have taken a little while for the youngest fighting Fury to branch out and forge his own path in the toughest sport of all.

“I don’t know about you, but it definitely has for me and I have been training all year – training very hard as well,” reported the light heavyweight, who will feature on the BT Box Office blockbuster card in Manchester in support of the IBF world featherweight title showdown between Josh Warrington and Carl Frampton. “I just think it has come at the right time and I couldn’t be on a better show, so it has been worth the wait.

“It is all setting in now and it has been surreal taking it all in because it is the first of many. It is in my home town in front of my crowd and I can’t wait. All my friends and family are going to be there so I will have to put on a good show on the night.”

An extended stint in the amateur code was not to the taste of Fury, who indicated that a lack of vested interest pushed him towards the pros.

“I had 12 amateur fights and won the North West title twice and then I went to the nationals and got to the final of that. In my last fight I boxed a kid who had the British title belt and I boxed him in Yorkshire for it and never got it.

“I beat him on a unanimous and thought, I’ve had 12 and know what it is about, if you can fight you can fight and there was no point hanging around because it is two completely different sports.
“Just because you are a good amateur doesn’t mean you will make a good pro.

“I didn’t like it at all, with those headguards on and the big gloves. It was not for me at all, point scoring and it is like a game of tig really. In the professionals, especially if you carry power, you need to sit down on your shots.

“In three rounds you can’t really do that,” he added, pointing out that now is the time for his turn in the spotlight.

“Looking back at it now over the years when Tyson and Hughie have been training. They’ve been getting all the coverage, doing the media workouts and doing the fighting – now it is my turn.

“Everyone has seen me lurking in the background for years wondering if I would ever get my shot. Now it has come I’ve got to look forward to the moment, but it has come and I am going to take it with both hands because these opportunities don’t come along all the time.

“I’ve got the best start and I am going to make it a good one.”

TOMMY FURY: “I COULDN’T BE PROUDER – SO MUCH OF MY MOTIVATION COMES FROM TYSON!”

Tommy Fury explains how his brother and his ‘favourite fighter’ Tyson Fury has given him the motivation he needs as the light-heavyweight counts down the days to his eagerly anticipated professional debut on December 22nd on the undercard of Josh Warrington’s IBF World Featherweight Title defence against Carl Frampton.

“Words can’t describe how much of a motivation he is to me.” said a very proud Tommy Fury after watching his older brother Tyson fight to a controversial split decision draw with Deontay Wilder.

He continued: “I thought the result was ludicrous. I still can’t get to grips with it and how any judge and any single person watching that fight couldn’t give it to Tyson.

“Even with the two knockdowns, he was still miles ahead and a lot of big names in the sport have come out and said they had Tyson winning.”

Tommy was unable to join Tyson and Team Fury in Los Angeles as he continues his preparations for his upcoming fight at the Manchester Arena on December 22nd.

But despite being thousands of miles away across the Atlantic, Tyson has still been able to inspire his younger sibling as he edges ever-closer to embarking on his professional journey.

“Just watching him throughout the whole build up, all his training, the all access programmes on Showtime and BT Sport, words can’t describe how much of a motivation he is to me.

“He’s my favourite fighter and in my opinion the best heavyweight there has ever been and he’s my brother, so much of my motivation comes from him.

“If he can conquer all what he has done, then I can conquer anything and it’s the same to everybody out there, whatever you want to achieve in life you can achieve it. My motivation is sky high and I couldn’t any prouder than my brother.”

TOMMY FURY: TYSON TO WIPE THE FLOOR WITH WILDER IF HE IS AT 25-30 PER CENT OF WHAT HE WAS IN 2015

New professional Tommy Fury is utterly convinced his brother Tyson will return from Los Angeles as the proud holder of the WBC world heavyweight title.

The undefeated lineal champion Tyson goes in against the 40-0 WBC ruler Deontay Wilder at the Staples Center on Saturday night in a bid to claim the one belt to have eluded him so far.

Following a lengthy hiatus from the sport after his de-throning of long-standing champion Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, the accepted wisdom is that this is a tall order for Tyson after just two relatively low key comeback fights.

The mission being undertaken by his senior sibling holds no fears for the 19-year-old, who firmly believes his brother holds all the aces going into the biggest fight of the year.

“If anyone is going to do it, it will be Tyson and he will do it,” insisted Tommy, who makes his professional debut at the Manchester Arena on December 22.

“There are no ifs, buts or maybes, he will do it because, like I have said many times before, the only reason this fight is competitive is because Tyson had two and a half years out of the ring and he abused his body.

“That is the only reason why this fight is even close. If he had come off the Klitschko win and fought, this would be a breeze and a 95-5 fight.

“Wilder has got a right hand, a left hook and he’s got a bit of pace. You can’t beat a man with everything in the book with just that.

“You need more than power. Look at Wilder, he doesn’t feint, he doesn’t prize you open, he just comes, lands a big right hand and it’s over. If you have got a person slipping and sliding, left and right all over the place and you are loading up and can’t land – you are going to get tired in the late rounds.

“That is what I have said, Tyson will stop him late on, between 10 and 12 rounds,” predicted the youngest of the fighting Furys, who suspects the Wilder camp are banking on Tyson’s inactivity counting against him.

“I do think he will break his heart and Wilder is thinking if he is going to do it has got to be now because he has had two comeback fights against low level opposition. He will think this is his time.

“When he comes out and sees Tyson just as good as he was in 2015 he will know he is wrong. When he can’t land those punches he is not going to do very much. He will have nothing left.

“Tyson has ballooned up before and come down. It is not even about fitness for him because I have seen him in the gym at 30 stone doing 15 rounds. I wondered how it was possible.

“I honestly believe if he is 25-30 per cent of what he was in 2015 he will wipe the floor with him because he has got too much skill for anybody out there. Joshua, he is stiff and doesn’t really move his head and you see the punches coming from a basic boxing style.

“That is why I think Wilder is a harder fight because he would beat Joshua in my opinion because he is unpredictable. With Joshua you know what he is going to do, he is going to start fast, then he tends to fade in the later rounds and then comes on strong again.

“Wilder swings a lot and is fast, plus he hits harder, so he is an all-round riskier fight.

“But if anyone can deal with that it is going to be Tyson.”

Tommy himself will be keeping the home fires burning on the night and not travelling to LA due to preparations for his own big night being underway, but he reckons Tyson could even run solo and still emerge victorious.

“I will be staying here to train because I’ve got to look to my own career at the minute, but he will do the job. He could go over by himself and do the job because he is that type of person.

“I will be cheering him on from back home.”
