UFC® FLYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION DEMETRIOUS JOHNSON MEETS RIVAL JOHN DODSON IN HIGHLY ANTICIPATED REMATCH

ufc_title-belt_206
Las Vegas – UFC flyweight champion and No. 3 pound-for-pound fighter Demetrious Johnson collides with rival John Dodson in a highly anticipated rematch Saturday, September 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Johnson narrowly defeated Dodson in their first bout in 2013, with the champion surviving several knockdowns from the heavy-handed New Mexico native. Two years later, the rivalry has grown bitter, and the pair of flyweight standouts will look to settle the score once and for all at UFC® 191: JOHNSON vs. DODSON 2.

Since his first showdown with Dodson, Johnson (21-2-1, fighting out of Parkland, Wash.) has gone on to defend his belt five more times, scoring impressive finishes in four of those contests. He now looks for a seventh consecutive successful title defense which would put him in a tie for third place on the all-time list behind only Anderson Silva (10) and Georges St-Pierre (9).

Meanwhile, Dodson (18-6, fighting out of Albuquerque, N.M.) is riding a three-fight winning streak with two finishes and believes that the next knockdown he scores over the champion will be the last.

Also, top-ranked light heavyweight Anthony “Rumble” Johnson (19-4, fighting out of Boca Raton, Fla.) returns to the Octagon for the first time since his title fight with Daniel Cormier and meets Polish striker, No. 12 Jan Blachowicz (18-4, fighting out of Poznan, Poland).

Plus, No. 8 women’s strawweight Paige VanZant (5-1, fighting out of Sacramento, Calif.) looks to continue her ascent up the UFC’s newest division when she meets Australia’s Alex Chambers (4-2, fighting out of Sydney, Australia). VanZant, who is 2-0 inside the Octagon, has quickly become one of the faces of the division thanks to thrilling victories over Kailin Curran and Felice Herrig. Chambers, a cast member on season 20 of The Ultimate Fighter, is coming off a third-round submission of Curran earlier this year. She looks to end the meteoric rise of VanZant when the two collide in Las Vegas.

Also announced for UFC 191: No. 11 bantamweight Francisco Rivera (11-4, fighting out of Buena Park, Calif.) welcomes proven finisher John Lineker (25-7, fighting out of Paranagua, Parana Brazil) to the 135-pound division.

INTERIM UFC® FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPION CONOR MCGREGOR TO LEAD EUROPE AGAINST URIJAH FABER AND THE AMERICANS ON THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER®

ufc_title-belt_206
Las Vegas – The next season of The Ultimate Fighter ® will feature no shortage of star power as interim UFC® featherweight champion “The Notorious” Conor McGregor coaches opposite Team Alpha Male’s Urijah Faber on the 22nd edition of the UFC’s storied reality television series.

The Ultimate Fighter®: Team McGregor vs. Team Faber will feature 16 competitors in the lightweight division and, in addition to a UFC contract; national pride will be on the line as McGregor leads eight European hopefuls against the Faber-led American squad. The sixth season to air on FOX Sports 1 will kick-off on Wednesday, September 9 with a two-hour season premiere airing at 10 p.m. ET. The season will continue with 11 one-hour shows Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET. The series is the highest rated and most watched original program since the network’s inception in August 2013.

Since bursting onto the scene in 2013, McGregor (18-2) has taken the MMA world by storm. Declaring in July 2014 “we’re not here to take part; we’re here to take over” when referring to the Irish presence in MMA, the Irish sensation has done exactly that. Originally scheduled to fight Jose Aldo at UFC® 189, McGregor defeated Faber’s friend and training partner Chad Mendes to claim the interim UFC featherweight title last night by second-round TKO. Now he awaits his next fight, a highly anticipated title unification bout with the Aldo in the coming months.

The former WEC featherweight champion, Faber (32-8) has been vocal in his disdain for McGregor. Long considered a pioneer for the lighter weight classes, Faber has assembled one of the top gyms in the sport, Team Alpha Male, featuring UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw, No. 2 flyweight Joseph Benavidez and Mendes. Now, he’ll bring his high-powered team to Las Vegas in hopes of leading the Americans past the Europeans.

UFC® Unveils New Brand Identity

ufc_title-belt_206
Las Vegas – As the doors swing open on the 2015 UFC Fan Expo®, UFC® will unveil a completely transformed visual identity – the first since the mixed martial arts (MMA) organization was purchased by Zuffa, LLC in 2001. The biggest transformation will be experienced by fans watching UFC® 189: MENDES vs. MCGREGOR this Saturday, with the launch of a completely redesigned graphics package.

UFC’s new visual identity, designed in partnership with Hollywood-based branding and marketing agency Troika, celebrates the UFC position as an undeniable force in the world of sport. It further brings to life the UFC brand attributes: premium, electric and lionhearted, while also elevating UFC athletes as larger-than-life heroes.

The broadcast will feature innovations throughout the on-screen information system, enabling depth of storytelling while enhancing the viewing experience with a low profile footprint that does not distract from the action in the famed Octagon®. UFC also moves to center clock in broadcast – a first in combat sports.

“UFC has and always will be true to its DNA,” UFC Chief Global Brand Officer Garry Cook said. “We didn’t set out to reinvent ourselves, we looked at ways to build on our solid foundation and better deliver on a broad range of storytelling components, providing more context and meaning, and further enhancing the viewing experience for our fans.”

With an increasing slate of content available across a wide range of platforms, design elements where heavily focused on providing navigational clarity and product differentiation for fans. The newly designed logo architecture and brand signatures, which include an ownable tab system utilized across all UFC properties, will be especially prominent in marketing and promotional materials serving to distinguish Pay-Per-View (PPV) events from broadcast and those exclusive to UFCFIGHTPASS.com.

An overview of UFC’s new visual identify can be viewed here: http://media.ufc.tv/PR/UFC_BRAND.pdf

For a full look at the transformed UFC broadcast identity tune-in on Saturday, July 11 as UFC 189: MENDES vs. MCGREGOR goes live on Pay-Per-View at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

June 30, 2015 (New York City, NY): UFC® and Reebok today unveiled the first-ever UFC Fight Kit. Built for high-performance athleticism, the UFC Fight Kit will be worn by every athlete that steps into the Octagon® and symbolizes UFC’s continuing evolution in the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) with a line of apparel developed with fighters, for fighters by Reebok. The kit will debut for the first time in the Octagon at UFC® 189: ALDO vs. MCGREGOR on July 11.
Built for pride and designed for performance, the official UFC Fight Kit by Reebok features innovations that support strength, speed, and flexibility, while allowing each athlete to prominently display their names and country pride on kit pieces:
§ STRENGTH: Sublimated graphic execution and reinforced double welded seam sealing construction for durability and reduced abrasion.

§ SPEED: Lightweight low-profile construction for weight reduction and streamlining.

§ COMFORT: PlayDry moisture management technology quickens drying time by rapidly moving moisture away from the body, allowing fighters to maintain optimum body temperature in the heat of battle.

§ FLEXIBILITY: 360° multi-directional stretch fabric and laser cut side vents for functional mobility. Anti-slipping technology ensures form fitting for every fighter position.

§ PRIDE: Country specific badging and athlete’s name with iconic on-garment placement.

The UFC Fight Kit has three variations: Champion Kit – featuring black and grey colors with iconic gold trim, worn only by current champions, Country Kit – with country specific colors and badging, and Universal Kit – using black and silver with a global badge, available to all athletes on the roster. The UFC Fight Kit includes the official UFC walkout jersey, variations of the Octagon short, the Octagon skort, the walkout hoodie, and assorted performance tops for women.
“Today is an historic moment for UFC, our athletes, Reebok and the sport of mixed martial arts,” UFC President Dana White said. “We’ve teamed up with an amazing global partner to take this sport to the next level, and we’ve done just that with the UFC Fight Kit. This gear was built and designed specifically for MMA athletes. Not only does it elevate the look of the sport – it revolutionizes the way they train, compete and perform.”
“The UFC Fight Kit is a landmark moment for Reebok’s partnership with the UFC as well as the sport as a whole,’ said Matt O’Toole, Reebok’s President. “UFC athletes represent some of the toughest and most dedicated humans in the world and Reebok is proud to develop the first-ever dedicated kit to support and enable their greatness in the Octagon.”
Beyond the Octagon, Reebok also launches its Reebok Combat collection today. Providing high performance apparel for people who fight for a living and those who want to train like a fighter.

Fight Network Presents Big Knockout Boxing Live on Saturday, June 27

TORONTO (June 26, 2015) — Fight Network, the world’s premier 24/7 television channel dedicated to complete coverage of combat sports, presents the third live installment of Big Knockout Boxing this Saturday, June 27 at 10 p.m. ET immediately following a live Canadian broadcast of the UFC Fight Night™: Machida vs. Romero prelims at 8 p.m. ET from Hollywood, Florida.

Fight Network’s live broadcast of BKB 3 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas will air nationwide in Canada and globally in over 30 countries across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

The BKB heavyweight title is up for grabs in the main event as unbeaten Julian Pollard (6-0) faces Rodney Hernandez (7-2-1), a late replacement for combat sports superstar Tyrone Spong.

The exciting card also features a junior middleweight bout pitting hardened veteran Jesus Soto Karass (28-10-3) against Adrian Granados (13-4-2), a middleweight clash between Shane Mosley Jr. (4-1) and Jason Kelly (3-0), a junior middleweight tilt between Janks Trotter (9-1-1) and Ed Paredes (35-5-1), plus Kyrgyzstan native Urmat Ryskeldiev (10-3-1) throws down with Florida native Marcus Willis (14-4-2) at junior middleweight.

BKB is a revolutionary concept in the sweet science with fighters competing inside a pit with a 17-foot diameter. With no ropes and no corners, there’s no choice but to engage, and with a fighting surface half the size of a traditional boxing ring, there’s nowhere to hide. Strap in for two-minute rounds of pure intensity, plus HitChip sensors in the fighters’ gloves measure the speed and force of every punch they throw, so you can see the impact of every hook, jab and haymaker.

BKB 3 kicks off at 10 p.m. ET this Saturday, June 27.

USADA AND UFC® MAKE NEW ANTI-DOPING POLICY PUBLICLY AVAILABLE

ufc_title-belt_206
Las Vegas – As announced in early June, as part of UFC®’s Athlete Marketing and Development Program, the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) will serve as the independent third-party administrator of UFC’s year-round Anti-Doping Policy beginning on July 1, 2015.

USADA is universally recognized as the premier anti-doping agency, whose sole mission is to protect the rights of clean athletes and to preserve the integrity of competition. USADA will independently administer all areas of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, including comprehensive education, testing, science and research, and results management. UFC® LAUNCHES ATHLETE MARKETING AND DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

ufc_title-belt_206
Las Vegas – UFC® announced today the unveiling of its new, ground-breaking Athlete Marketing and Development program, introduced to provide athletes with programs and tools to help them maximize their careers and succeed long-term, both inside and outside the Octagon®. In coordination with key organizations such as the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), Fusionetics, and EXOS, UFC continues to be at the forefront of athlete development, making a significant investment into the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) and, most importantly, the athletes who step into the Octagon.

“Earlier this year, we vowed to take a leadership position on key areas impacting our sport, fighter health and fighter safety,” UFC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Lorenzo Fertitta said. “After months of hard work, and the addition of Jeff Novitzky, we have taken the opportunity to not only launch an elite anti-doping policy, but to invest, develop and deploy a year-round Athlete Marketing and Development program focused on the preparation, performance and education of our athletes.”

As UFC continues to evolve as one of the world’s leading sports organizations, it has engaged USADA to run the first all-encompassing, independently administered, anti-doping policy for a professional sports organization. The policy is a central part of UFC’s expanded efforts to protect the health and safety of its athletes, and to protect their right to compete with natural ability on an even playing field.

USADA, universally recognized as a premier anti-doping agency, will act as the independent administrator of the anti-doping policy, beginning July 1, 2015. As the policy ramps up, UFC and USADA will provide athletes with multiple levels of education including: written copies of the policy and accompanying materials, in-person presentations, hands-on demonstration of online and mobile applications, and on-line education courses. Jeff Novitzky, UFC Vice President of Athlete Health and Performance, will spearhead the roll out of the anti-doping policy.

UFC and USADA will release the finalized policy to the athletes, the media and the public by mid-June.

Fusionetics, developed under the leadership of Dr. Micheal A. Clark and a group of scientists, sports medicine professionals, coaches, athletes and business leaders, is a system that was designed and is utilized in the world of professional sports to help athletes improve their performance, speed up their recovery and avoid future injury. The newly announced partnership will allow UFC athletes to access Fusionetics facilities and interact with their staff, providing individualized digital plans that can be utilized on the athletes’ tablets and phones.

EXOS, the leaders in training, nutrition and physical therapy for elite athletes, have worked with some of the best professional athletes in sport and will now begin working closely with UFC athletes. The goal is to help UFC athletes maximize performance and minimize injury risk. During the last week of May, middleweight Luke Rockhold, former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans and newly signed middleweight CM Punk became the first UFC athletes to take part in a full week of training at the EXOS facilities in Phoenix learning innovative ways to train, plan and prepare for competition. Phase two of the program will include sending additional athletes to the EXOS facilities, as well as deploying a mobile EXOS team to some of the top gyms in the sport.

Lastly, on June 1 and 2, UFC gathered nearly fifty up-an-coming athletes for its Athlete Summit to unveil the new anti-doping policy and deploy its new Athlete Marketing and Development program. The two-day summit offered classes featuring experts in financial planning, nutrition, and health and wellness, press and social media training, and allowed for personal interaction with all three organizations: USADA, Fusionetics and EXOS.

This new program, and future initiatives to be developed under its umbrella, reflects UFC’s absolute on-going commitment to the health and well-being of its contracted athletes.

DILLASHAW AND BARAO COLLIDE IN LONG-AWAITED CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH AT CHICAGO’S UNITED CENTER

ufc_title-belt_206
Las Vegas – In one of the most highly anticipated rematches in recent memory, UFC® bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw will meet former champ Renan Barao when the Octagon® returns to United Center in Chicago on Saturday, July 25. UFC FIGHT NIGHT®: DILLASHAW vs. BARAO 2 marks the seventh UFC championship title bout to air on FOX.

After pulling off one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport by dethroning then-champ Barao at UFC 173, Dillashaw (12-2, fighting out of Sacramento, Calif.) will put the 135-pound strap on the line against the very man he took it from. Barao (35-2, 1 NC, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), whose record includes eight wins by knockout and 15 by submission, looks to reclaim the title he held for almost two years. With more than 30 finishes between them, this championship rematch could be one of the best fights of the year.

Also, No. 2 women’s bantamweight Miesha Tate (16-5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev.) will clash with fifth-ranked Jessica Eye (11-2, 1 NC, fighting out of Cleveland, Ohio). With both women’s eyes set on a shot at champion Ronda Rousey’s title, Tate and Eye will be in a high-stakes battle. As the only woman to take Rousey out of the first round of competition, Tate hopes a dominant performance over Eye will secure a trilogy matchup against the champ. For Eye, she looks to earn her first shot at the world title; something she feels is already rightfully hers.

In addition, the main card will feature a classic striker vs. grappler matchup as No. 7 lightweight contender Edson Barboza (15-3, fighting out of Nova Fridurgo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) meets eighth-ranked Myles Jury (15-1, fighting out of San Diego, Calif.). Barboza’s elite striking has earned him victories over veterans Bobby Green and Evan Dunham, while Jury is known for his slick jiu-jitsu submissions and finishing prowess.

Additional bouts include:
· Fan favorite Joe Lauzon (24-11, fighting out of Bridgewater, Mass.) meets Japan’s Takanori Gomi (35-10, 1 NC, fighting out of Tokyo, Japan) in a lightweight showdown.

· Former WEC® bantamweight champion Eddie Wineland (21-10-1, fighting out of Chesterton, Ind.) takes on No. 10 bantamweight Bryan Caraway (19-8, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev.).

· No. 15 light heavyweight contender Gian Villante (13-5, fighting out of Bellmore, N.Y.) welcomes Tom Lawlor (9-5, 1 NC, fighting out of Providence, R.I.) back to the Octagon.

· In a battle of lightweight strikers, Daron Cruickshank (16-6, 1 NC, fighting out of Detroit, Mich.) clashes with James Krause (21-7, fighting out of Lee’s Summit, Mo.).

· The Ultimate Fighter® Season 13 finalist Ramsey Nijem (10-4, fighting out of San Francisco, Calif.) takes on submission specialist Erik Koch (14-4, fighting out of Milwaukee, Wisc.) in a 155-pound bout.

· Lightweight takedown artist Rustam Khabilov (17-3, fighting out of Albuquerque, N.M. by way of Dagestan, Russia) meets Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace Danny Castillo (17-8, fighting out of Sacramento, Calif.).

· In a middleweight battle, jiu-jitsu specialists Zak Cummings (17-4, fighting out of Kansas City, Mo.) and Antonio Braga Neto (9-2, 1 NC, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) square off.

· Looking to make it four consecutive victories, Illinois’ own Kenny Robertson (15-3, fighting out of Washington, Ill.) squares off against welterweight veteran Ben Saunders (18-6-2, fighting out of Orlando, Fla.).

· Jessamyn Duke (3-2, 1 NC, fighting out of Glendale, Calif.) of ‘The Four Horsewomen’, a quartet of fighters led by UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, meets Elizabeth Phillips (4-3, fighting out of Spokane, Wash.) in a women’s 135-pound scrap.
