Abell replaces Williams to fight Pulev on December 14

Kubrat Pulev (18-0, 9 KOs) has to adapt for a new opponent! The IBF its mandatory challenger to Heavyweight World Champion Wladimir Klitschko should have stepped into the ring against Sherman Williams. However, Williams did suffer an injury to his right hand in his final preparations and is therefore unable to fight Pulev on December 14.

Instead it will be Joey Abell (29-6, 28 KOs, 2 NC) to take on the IBF International Champion at the Jahnsportforum Neubrandenburg, Germany. 6 foot 4 Abell will probably represent an even bigger challenge to Pulev as 5 foot 11 Williams.

“It doesn’t matter who I have to beat,” stated a self-confident Pulev. “My goal is clear: a fight against Wladimir Klitschko to take all his belts from him!”

Wladimir Klitschko ordered to fight Leapai

wklitschko
Recognized Heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko has been ordered to defend his title against unheralded Alex Leapai according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

“I’ve never heard of Alex Leapai until the fight with Boytsov,” Klitschko told ESPN.com. “I think he did a great job to win that fight and become official mandatory for WBO title. I’m looking forward to that challenge from Alex and I’m sure he will give his best in that fight against me.”

“We accept the decision by the WBO,” Boente said of making Leapai the mandatory challenger. “I saw Leapai’s courageous fight against No. 1 and unbeaten Boytsov. He looked strong, can take a punch and had Boytsov twice on the floor. We have no idea about the date and arena. First we have to discuss with Leapai’s management.”

Boytsov: a win over Leapai could lead to Klitschko!

Denis Boytsov (33-0, 26 KOs) will finally lace up the gloves for Team Sauerland. On November 23, the powerful heavyweight will premiere for his new team against WBO Asia Pacific Champion Alex Leapai (29-4-3, 24 KOs) at the brose Arena in Bamberg, Germany.

Boytsov (27), currently ranked the number one contender by the WBO, has a good shot to meet the WBA and WBO Super Champion and IBF World Titleholder Wladimir Klitschko in the not too distant future if he gets past world-rated Leapai. However, coach Karsten Roewer hints that a bout against the 34-year-old from Australia will be no walk in the park for his prodigy. “You just have to take a look at his record and know that it’s going to be a dangerous affair for Denis,” said Roewer. “Leapai might not be the best boxer skill wise. Still, he is explosive and packs a punch. We have to be wary of those facts until the last bell to beat him.”

Boytsov takes his next opponent serious. “At the moment I don’t think about the fact that a win over Leapai will lead to a world title shot. It is all about my next fight. I need to be victorious in Bamberg. Afterwards, I can take it from there,” said the heavyweight, who now resides in Berlin.

The main event in Bamberg will see IBF and RING Cruiserweight Champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez defending his titles against mandatory challenger Alexander Alekseev. Tickets for the big fight night at the brose Arena in Bamberg can be purchased at www.eventim.de and www.boxen.com.

KNOCKOUT KING DEONTAY WILDER LOOKS TO CONTINUE MARCH TOWARDS WORLD TITLE THIS WEEKEND LIVE ON BOXNATION

deontay-wilder
LONDON (25 Oct) – Knockout heavyweight sensation Deontay Wilder has earmarked a world title clash with one of the Klitschko brothers early next year before crossing the Atlantic to take care of brash-talking Tyson Fury.

The ‘Bronze Bomber’, who has sent shockwaves through the heavyweight division after laying out all 29 of his past opponents, returns to the ring this weekend to face Nicolai Firtha on the undercard of Bernard Hopkins’ world title defence against Karo Murat in Atlantic City.

Speaking exclusively to BoxNation, the imposing 6ft 7in bruiser from Tuscaloosa, Alabama has his sight firmly fixed on becoming the next heavyweight champion of the world by dethroning the current kings of the division – the Klitschko brothers – who he believes have their vulnerabilities.

“I’m thinking early-to-mid next year [for a world title shot]. We’re trying to line it up now. At the moment I’m ranked number 3 by the WBC so we’re in planning right now. I’ll fight whoever they put in front of me,” said Wilder.

“Everybody has weaknesses – the Klitschko’s have weaknesses as well too. It’s just up to fighters to find them when they’re in the ring.

“It’s always shorter fighters fighting them – that’s one thing I don’t understand – but when the shorter fighters are in the ring with them their whole objective is to get in the inside and try and throw overhands. You can’t just have one plan when going in with them,” he explained.

“Deontay Wilder is the next heavyweight champion of the world – the next undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. I feel the heavyweight division will be restored, these things move in cycles,” Wilder declared.

A potential fight which has been brewing nicely, ever since an impromptu coming together when the pair locked horns during a recent boxing event in Rotherham, is a mouth-watering matchup with British star Tyson Fury.

With Wilder having also been in camp with David Haye, helping the Londoner get ready ahead of his initially arranged September showdown with Fury, the blue touch paper has been lit, clearing the way for an inevitable coming together.

“The fight between me and Tyson Fury will definitely happen one day soon. The hype has been building like it’s been planned and once it gets to the peak where it’s an absolute must that fight’s going to happen,” said Wilder.

“When that fight happens we want it to be the best fight in the history of boxing. Two guys from two different parts of the world coming together for one night for the fans – I think it’s going to be a great fight when that time comes for both of us. We’re both two exciting heavyweights in the division and the fight would be great,” he said.

As two rising undefeated contenders, the bout would reignite the competitive Anglo-American rivalry which has illuminated many fights through history, though, where it takes place is no issue with Wilder.

“I would fight him anywhere,” said Wilder. “I’m a traveller, a global fighter, I fight anywhere all over the world that’s how you become legendary. You become legendary by not being afraid to go into enemy territory when the time comes or when duty calls.

“I love England, everytime I’m there people treat me like it’s my home and I have a lot of friends over there. When I’m over there I feel comfortable, I feel like I’m at home so it won’t be no different if it’s in the United States or England,” he stated.

Wilder has business to take care of first this weekend when he faces Firtha in a fight you can see live on BoxNation. Also featured on the card is Peter Quillin defending his WBO middleweight title against Gabriel Rosado before the main event when Bernard Hopkins puts his IBF light-heavyweight world title on the line against Germany’s Karo Murat.

Klitschko defeats Povetkin in ugly title defense

wklitschko
It wasn’t pretty but Wladimir Klitscho made another title defense of the WBA/WBC/IBF Ring Magazine Heavyweight Wladimir Klistchko defended his crown against WBA regular champion Alexander with a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision in Moscow, Russia.

Pobetkin tried to start out quick but without much success. In round two, Klitschko landed a short left hook that Povetkin down for the 1st time in his career. The fight never had any flow to it due to Klitschko holding and headlocking Povetkin any time that Povetkin got close. The fight was essentially put out of reach when Klitschko dropped Povetkin three times.

The first came from a hard 1-2 combination. The second came after Klitschko rocked Povetkin with a big right hand, the champion jumped all over Povetkin and sent him to the canvas after a big flurry of punches. Klitschko hurt Povetkin with a left and sent him to the canvas for a fourth time in the fight and third in round seven with a follow up left hand.

Povetkin did well to make it out of the round and to the final bell but he never had Klistchko in any trouble despite continuing to try more then most previous Klitschko opponents. Klitschko did well to hold, grab and push Povetkin down to the canvas several more times and was even penalized a point in round eleven by referee Luis Pabon.

Klitschko went 61-3 with a decision that read 119-104 on all cards. Povetkin loses for the first time and is now 26-1.

Klitschko – Povetkin signed for October 5th

wklitschko
According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, World Heavyweight champions Wladimir Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin will meet on October 5th in Moscow.

“I’m very happy that this fight is finally made. The fans around the world are looking forward to this extravaganza between two Olympic champions,” said Klitschko, the 1996 super heavyweight gold medalist for Ukraine. “This is the best fight in the heavyweight division and I’m thrilled that it will be staged in Moscow, where many Russian and Ukrainian fans have a chance to fill the arena. The atmosphere is going to be thrilling.”

“We had long and intense negotiations but both sides were willing to find an agreement and now we can together present the fans around the world one of the best fights that can be made,” said Bernd Boente, who manages Klitschko. “We were all waiting for this bout a long time but finally, here we go. Two gold medal winners, two heavyweight champions, two great athletes — a dream fight.”

Hrunov and business partner Andrej Ryabinsky worked for more than a month to get the terms ironed out but they are happy to finally have the fight set.

“A lot of time and effort went into this, but now finer details have been dealt with, agreements are signed and we are looking forward to October and the historic fight between these titans of boxing,” Ryabinsky said. “We would like to thank our German partners for their cooperation and joint efforts.”

Povetkin ready for Klitschko! Convincing victory against Wawrzyk!*

alexander_povetkin
Wladimir Klitschko can come. That’s what must have gone through the mind of
Alexander Povetkin on Friday night after he finished off Andrzej Wawrzyk
inside three rounds. It was obvious that the Pole was over his head from the
get go and was sent to the canvas on three occasions before the 33-year-old
Russian was declared the winner and still WBA Heavyweight Champion of the
world.

The defending champion started of slowly at the Crocus City Hall in
Myakinino, close to the Russian capital of Moscow. In front of the eyes of
Vitali Klitschko (current WBC Champion), former WBA Champion Nikolai Valuev
as well as American movie star Steven Seagal the Russian mainly dominated
with his jab. But from round two onwards, Povetkin did not hold back
anymore. The orthodox fighter started to dominate Wawrzyk, who wasn’t able
to take advantage of his superior height and reach. After pushing him into
the corner, the champion caught the Pole with a powerful right hook straight
to the chin, which sent the previously undefeated heavyweight crashing to
the floor. Still feeling the pain the 1.95 meter challenger managed to get
back to his feet and was later saved by the bell.

However, the Olympic gold medalist continued the third round exactly where
he left off with. This time it was a left hook by Povetkin which found the
target and once again the 25-year-old Pole found himself on the floor. Just
a few seconds later he was caught by another shot. This time referee Russell
Mora stopped the punishment for Wawrzyk and it was all over.

Povetkin was understandably happy about his 26th victory out of as many
professional fights. “Everything went exactly as I wanted it to,” said the
man form Chekhov, Russia. “It took a little bit of time to get into the
fight but once I got started it was pretty much over.”

The defending champion already knows what his upcoming challenge will look
like. The next time Povetkin steps into the ring he will be looking straight
into the eyes of Wladimir Klitschko, the reigning IBF Titleholder as well as
WBA and WBO Super Champion of the world. Staging the mega fight will be
Russian based Hrunov Promotions who won the purse bid by putting more than
23 Million US-Dollars on the table.

Wawrzyk on the other hand had to taste defeat for the very first time in his
career after 27 previous victories.

TWO WBA WORLD TITLES ON THE LINE TONIGHT IN RUSSIA

alexander_povetkin
We’re coming to you LIVE and EXCLUSIVE from Crocus City Hall, Moscow, Russia, from 5.30pm tonight with not one but two World titles on the line! Unbeaten heavyweight Alexander Povetkin defends his WBA World Heavyweight Championship against the 27-0 Poland fighter Andrzej Wawrzyk. The bout is seen by many as a stepping stone for Povetkin to face the WBA’s “Super” World Champion Wladimir Klitschko, but he knows he faces a tough test against the unbeaten 25-year-old.

Co-headlining the show, Denis Lebedev (above) and Guillermo Jones finally get it on for the WBA World Cruiserweight title after previously planned clashes were disappointingly postponed.

John Rawling and Barry Jones will call the action on the night, while expert analysis will come from Steve Bunce and Steve Lillis in the studio. Join us from 5.30pm for another great night of world title action on the Channel of Champions, BoxNation!

WBA-Champion Povetkin focused on last hurdle

alexander_povetkin
There is only one stepping-stone left between Alexander Povetkin (25-0, 17
KOs) and the World Championship bout with Wladimir Klitschko (59-3, 50 KOs).
The current WBA Champion takes on Andrzej Wawrzyk (27-0, 13 KOs) this
Friday, a must-win situation for Povetkin. Defeat is not an option or the
hotly anticipated fight against the Ukrainian is over before it has even
begun. The champion met up with his challenger for the very first time
during today´s press conference. This is what they had to say:

Alexander Povetkin (WBA Heavyweight Champion): ?I am putting my belt on the
line, so this is a very important fight for me. I promise to give it all I
have. My opponent?s name on Friday is Wawrzyk and not Klitschko. I am fully
focused on him and want to give the fans inside the Arena a great show.?

Andrzej Wawrzyk (Challenger): ?As soon as they offered me to fight Povetkin,
I accepted. This could be the chance of a lifetime. I have been in training
anyways so I was ready from the get-go and I will try everything possible to
burst the bubble that is the fight between Povetkin and Klitschko.?

Kostya Tszyu (Coach Alexander Povetkin): ?Alexander has developed a lot
during our time together. His punches become more powerful every time we
step into the gym and I can feel them through the pads. I am glad that he
does not hit me anywhere else. Wawrzyk should better be careful because
Alexander´s strength will make the difference on May 17.?

But not only the heavyweight championship, which Vitali Klitschko will be
attending, will keep the fans on the edge. Also WBA Cruiserweight Champion
Denis Lebedev (25-1, 19 KOs) takes on ?Champion in Recess? Guillermo Jones
(38-3-2, 30 KOs).

Klitschko – Povetkin purse bid nets $23.3 Million

wklitschko
According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, manager Vlad Hryunov bid an astounding $23.3 millon to stage the Heavyweight unification bout between Wladimir Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin.

The bid is the third-biggest winning bid ever and far exceeded expectations. K2 Promotions, Klitschko’s company, bid $7.13 million and Sauerland Event, which promotes Povetkin, bid $6,014,444 at the ceremony at WBA headquarters in Panama City. The minimum bid was $1 million.

Rafael’s Boxing Blog
Get the latest scoop and analysis on the world of boxing from ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael in his blog.

“We all were totally surprised,” Klitschko manager Bernd Boente told ESPN.com. “We only have to make sure that the money goes into escrow and that it’s real. We are definitely willing to go through with it, but we have to make sure this is not one of those fake Don King purse bids [where he has defaulted multiple times after high bids].”

As champion, Klitschko is entitled to 75 percent of the winning offer ($17,499,997) with Povetkin due the remaining 25 percent ($5,833,333).

Asked whether the purse was the biggest in Klitschko’s career, Boente laughed and said, “By far.” The total is also easily the biggest purse of Povetkin’s career.

“I think this fight will wind up in Moscow,” Boente said.

“Right now the most important thing is that Wladimir wins his fight on May 4 against Pianeta,” Boente said. “Wladimir got the news about the bid and he said, ‘It’s interesting, but to be honest I just take it as news. I am 100 percent focused on Pianeta.’ ”

Hryunov was required to put down a 10 percent deposit with his bid — $2.3 million — as per WBA rules.

“If he doesn’t go through with it, he loses the money,” Boente said, noting that the $2.3 million would be split between the boxers and the sanctioning organization.

EPIX BATTLES IN APRIL AND MAY! Live to U.S. on EPIX and EpixHD.com

wklitschko
NEW YORK, NY (March 19, 2013) — Live world championship boxing continues its EPIX run in April and May with two more exciting events featuring the kings of the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions.

Undefeated World Boxing Organization (WBO) light heavyweight champion NATHAN CLEVERLY defends his title against No. 1 contender ROBIN KRASNIQI on Saturday, April 20, at London’s Wembley Arena. The following month, World Heavyweight Champion WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO, making his fourth consecutive appearance on EPIX, defends his WBO/International Boxing Federation (IBF)/World Boxing Association (WBA)/International Boxing Organization (IBO)/The Ring world titles against undefeated Top-10 contender FRANCESCO PIANETA on Saturday, May 4, at the SAP-Arena in Mannheim, Germany. Both fights will be televised live to the U.S. exclusively on EPIX, the premium entertainment network. EPIX will stream the fights live on EpixHD.com and on the EPIX app on Xbox consoles and Roku players as part of a special free trial offer for boxing fans.

These four gladiators boast a combined record of 151-5-1 (92 KOs) — a winning percentage of 96% and a victory by knockout ratio of 61%.

“We’re excited to present another strong slate of compelling world championship battles,” said Travis Pomposello, Chief Creative Officer for EPIX Sports. “The Cleverly-Krasniqi and Klitschko-Pianeta title rumbles are competitive fights with marquee value that our viewers want to see and have come to expect from EPIX.”

Cleverly (25-0, 12 KOs), of Caerphilly, Wales, was British Commonwealth and European light heavyweight champion before he ascended the throne as world champion. After winning the WBO interim light heavyweight title in 2010, winning a close but unanimous decision over Nadjib Mohammedi, he was elevated to world champion a few months later where he has since successfully defended the WBO title four times since 2011 against opponents who had a combined record of 81-6-2 when he battled them. In Cleverly’s last fight, which took place at Staples Center in Los Angeles on November 11, he blasted out Shawn Hawk in the eighth round.

Krasniqi (39-2, 15 KOs), a native of Serbia who fights out of Munich, Germany, is riding a seven-year, 38-bout winning streak. Only once has Krasniqi ever fought outside Germany — in Prague, Czech Republic in 2010. He enters this fight having won his last four fights by knockout. Those victories also earned him the WBO European and WBO International light heavyweight crowns as well and his WBO mandatory challenger position.

Klitschko (59-3, 50 KOs), of Kiev, Ukraine, is a two-time world heavyweight champion. Klitschko began his first title reign in 2000 when he captured the WBO heavyweight title via a unanimous decision over defending champion Chris Byrd. Byrd suffered two knockdowns in that battle. Klitschko’s two-year title reign included five successful defenses – all by knockout – before losing the belt to Corrie Sanders in 2003. Klitschko returned to the world championship throne in 2006, this time as IBF champion, when he dethroned Chris Byrd in a title rematch. This victory was even more emphatic than the first one with Klitschko stopping Byrd in the seventh round. Since that fight, Klitschko has taken on and defeated all comers while unifying the title with victories over WBO champion Sultan Ibragimov, and WBA champion David Haye. He enters this fight riding a nine-year, 16-bout winning streak. Last year he successfully defended his titles three times — a fourth-round knockout of former two-time world champion Jean Marc Mormeck on March 3, and a sixth-round stoppage of mandatory challenger Tony Thompson on July 7. He finished the year with a 12-round unanimous decision victory over previously undefeated Mariusz Wach on November 10. All three title defenses were televised live to the U.S. by EPIX.

Pianeta (28-0-1, 15 KOs), is a native of Italy who fights out of Gelsenkirchen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. An eight-year professional, Pianeta, 28, is an inspiring story having survived a bout of testicular cancer. After surgery in late 2009, the 6’5 southpaw returned to the ring one year later, knocking out Mike Middleton in the first round. His resume boasts a one-year reign as the European Union heavyweight champion, which included three successful title defenses, and victories over former heavyweight champion Oliver McCall and four-time heavyweight title challenger Frans Botha. In his last fight on November 16, Pianeta knocked out Nelson Dario Dominguez (14-1-1) in the first round. He is currently world-rated No. 8 by the WBO.

Wladimir Klitschko to take on Pianeta on May 4th

wklitschko
IBF/WBA/WBO Heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko will defend against undefeated Franciso Pianeta on May 4th in Manheim, Germany according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

The bout will be televised in the United States by EPIX

“I have a lot of respect for Francesco Pianeta. He is young, a southpaw and has an immense fighting spirit,” Klitschko said. “He will do anything to reach his goal. I am warned and will prepare myself very intensively.”

“I was in Wladimir’s camp as a sparring partner last year. I saw his weaknesses and will use them for me,” Pianeta said. “I know many experts see me as the underdog but I like this role and will shock the boxing world when I knock out Klitschko.”

“Mannheim is a special place,” Klitschko said. “I started my second career there with my victory against Chris Byrd in 2006. The atmosphere has always been great.”

Oquendo: I Deserve This Fight More Than Anybody

“No one deserves the Klitschko fight more than me,” says long-time heavyweight contender Fres Oquendo.

WBA #5 and WBA #12-rated Oquendo (35-7, 23 KOs) can make a strong case for being the next to face WBA/IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on April 6 in Hanover, Germany.

“I’m seeing these newcomer kids talking about how they deserve to fight Klitschko. I haven’t lost a fight legitimately since 2006. In 2003, I had a world-title fight and lost an outrageous robbery against Chris Byrd. Byrd went on to lose the title that I should have won that night to Wladimir. So, if they hadn’t stolen my title from me that night, I would have already had a fight against Wladimir! Me getting the fight against Wladimir is boxing karma making things right.”

39-year-old Oquendo, who began his career in 1997, has won countless regional titles and is still stopping the opponents he’s supposed to stop. He took out capable veterans Robert Hawkins and Joey Abell in his two latest appearances.

“I’m still as sharp as I’ve ever been and I know how to get to Wladimir. I’ve been trying to get him in the ring for years because I see what you need to do to beat him. Plus, if you put my resume next to anybody else’s that they’re talking about it’s like a joke. Nobody else deserves this fight as much as I do. So let’s get it done, call my promoter, Bobby Hitz, so I can start training to go over there and kick his ass.”

BRYANT JENNINGS WILLING TO ACCOMMODATE KLITSCHKO ON APRIL 6 IN GERMANY

Philadelphia, PA—Undefeated heavyweight contender Bryant Jennings is more than willing to challenge heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on April 6 in Germany, according to Jennings’ promoter, J Russell Peltz.

“I cannot understand why Klitschko’s people are having such a tough time finding someone to fight,” Peltz said. “I spoke with their American representatives a few weeks ago and offered Jennings but I was told we were not being considered.”

Jennings, 28, of Philadelphia, is ranked No. 3 by the IBF and No. 22 by the WBC. He turned pro in 2010 and is 16-0, 8 K0s, and he holds the USBA heavyweight title.

“I am sure there are more than a few European boxing fans who have heard of Jennings, especially after he knocked out (ex-WBO champion) Sergei Liakhovich last year in Brooklyn,” Peltz added. “Some of the recent names that have been tossed out there couldn’t stand up to Jennings, so I do not see what the problem is with finding someone credible to fight Klitschko.

“Bryant has been asking for this fight for months.”

Jennings, an unknown at this time last year, broke into the heavyweight picture by winning five fights in 2013. In addition to beating Liakhovich, he pinned the first loss on previously unbeaten lefty Maurice Byarm, of Washington, DC, and he won the vacant USBSA title by pitching a shutout against iron-chinned Steve Collins, of Houston, TX.

In his last fight Dec. 8 in Philadelphia, Jennings defended the USBA crown by knocking out Bowie Tupou, of Tonga, in five rounds.

All of those 2013 fights were televised as part of the NBC Sports Network Fight Night series.

“I see things in their (Klitschko) arsenal, things that I could apply,” Jennings recently told Chris Mannix, of Sports Illustrated. “It’s not that (Klitschko) has weaknesses, it’s that I see things in him that I may be able to break through on. Wladimir has a problem being challenged. He is very seldom challenged. I know that if he gets hit on the chin, he is going down. I have confidence in my ability. I know I will try harder than those other guys he has fought. One of his weaknesses is that I think he would underestimate me, just like the rest of the guys I fought. I’m a light guy and he would think he can just push me around.

“Everyone knows how bad I want that fight. I don’t want to wait for my career. I don’t have 10 more years. I have a pace that I created and I’m just trying to keep up with that pace. I don’t have time to be slowed down. I cam here fast and I’ll leave fast.”

Klitschko to Face Povetkin as Next Opponent – Immediate Negotiations Ordered by the WBA

wklitschko
The World Boxing Association (WBA) has instructed the promotional companies
Sauerland Event (SE) and Klitschko Management Group (KMG) to conduct
immediate negotiations for the fight between the current Heavyweight Super
Champion Wladimir Klitschko and Regular World Champion Alexander Povetkin.
The WBA has followed the rules of their writing originally sent to all
parties prior to the fight between Wladimir Klitschko and David Haye. The
letter stated that the winner of the bout would be declared as Super
Champion and has to face the winner out of Ruslan Chagaev vs. Alexander
Povetkin within in a time period of 18 months after the fight which took
place on August 27, 2011. Klitschko vs. Povetkin is scheduled to take place
before February 26, 2013.

Povetkin´s promoter Kalle Sauerland said: “We are very excited that Povetkin
will be Wladimir Klitschko´s next opponent. We consider Wladimir Klitschko
to be a great champion but we also consider Alexander Povetkin to be a very
serious challenger. A fight between two Olympic Heavyweight Champions is
always something special and one that will turn out to be a real treat for
boxing fans all over the world.”

Chris Meyer, Managing Director of Sauerland Event, added: “We have a four
week period to negotiate terms on the fight and will be in contact with the
Klitschko management later on today. We worked together for many fights as
co-promoters of the Klitschkos. Therefore I am convinced that we will have a
professional dialogue. However, if we should not be able to reach a
voluntary agreement we are prepared to enter a purse bid.”

STATEMENT FROM CLASSIC ENTERTAINMENT & SPORTS

“Since our team at Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc., joined forces with Global Boxing Promotions in 2010, we have diligently worked together to guide Mariusz Wach to the precipice of a world heavyweight championship. We fulfilled our obligation as co-promoters, utilizing our wisdom and relationships within the sport of boxing. Under the tutelage of Classic Entertainment & Sports and Global Boxing Promotions, Wach won five consecutive bouts, rose to No. 4 in the World Boxing Council (WBC) ratings and achieved his lifelong dream Nov. 17th by challenging Wladimir Klitschko for the World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) heavyweight titles.

“Wach put his faith and trust in us as co-promoters to guide him to the top. In turn, we put our faith and trust in Wach and the trainers he felt most comfortable working with in preparing for the opportunity to win a world title. Wach spent four months working exclusively with his team of trainers in preparation for last month’s title bout, fully trusting their guidance and judgment under the assumption they would act within the rules and regulations set forth by boxing’s most respected governing bodies.

“Without the benefit of any direct involvement in Wach’s training camp, we held Wach’s trainers to the same strict code of conduct and ethics we expect from all of our fighters, trainers and employees. CES and Global Boxing Promotions fulfilled its obligations as Wach’s co-promoters and expected his trainers to do the same in preparation for last months’ heavyweight title bout. We are disappointed to learn of the most recent allegations against Wach, and we hope these allegations do not diminish his valiant effort against Wladimir Klitschko.”

The hunt for Wladimir Klitschko is on: Helenius and Pulev ranked as number one!***

Exciting news for Robert Helenius (18-0, 11 KOs) and Kubrat Pulev (17-0, 9
KOs). Both top heavyweight contenders currently hold the number one spot in
their respective rankings.

After beating former world champions Lamon Brewster, Samuel Peter and
Siarhei Liakhovich, the WBO (World Boxing Organization) already instated
Helenius as their number one fighter back in September of last year.
However, after the fight for the European Championship against Dereck
Chisora in December 2011, the Finn had to take a longer break due to a
serious shoulder injury. On November 10, Helenius gave his successful
comeback in Helsinki. After ten rounds, the “Nordic Nightmare” won a
unanimous points decision against Sherman “The Tank” Williams – the WBO’s
previous number ten. In their latest Rankings, 28-year-old Helenius is back
as the number one ranked boxer.

Kubrat Pulev has also been enjoying some very successful months. The prodigy
of coach Otto Ramin first laced his gloves as a professional back in
September of 2009. In his debut fight as a pro, he beat Romanian Florian
Benche on points. Since then, the 31-year-old has won every single one of
his 17 fights and boasts a perfect record. The big break came this year
after beating Alexander Dimitrenko to claim the European Championship on Mai
5 in Erfurt, Germany. Another victory followed on September 29, when the
Bulgarian took on the 140-Kilo colossus Alexander Ustinov in Hamburg. Hence,
the move up to first place of the official IBF (International Boxing
Federation) rankings was just a matter of time.

The current WBO and IBF Champion is Wladimir Klitschko. The Ukrainian also
holds the WBA (World Boxing Association) Super Champion status. The regular
WBA Champion is Alexander Povetkin (25-0, 17 Kos), who is signed to Team
Sauerland just like Helenius and Pulev. “The hunt for Wladimir Klitschko is
on. First, he will have to face mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin.
Once that fight has happened, we will see if Klitschko is still the
champion,” said a confident Kalle Sauerland. “We already have one
heavyweight world champion in Povetkin. With Robert Helenius and Kubrat
Pulev we have two more fighters who capable of taking the belts of
Klitschko. Added to that, we also have 24-year-old heavyweight hopeful
Edmund Gerber in our ranks. But before we can start thinking of anything
else, Klitschko has to face Povetkin.”

Steward’s genius still alive for Wladimir Klitschko

Wladimir Klitschko’s best friend won’t be there. Emanuel Steward is gone. But Steward’s genius is still around. It never dies.

In a bout dedicated to the trainer he calls a genius, Klitschko hopes for a performance Saturday against Mariuz Wach in an Epix/EpixHD.com bout that will represent all that Steward meant to him and a sport still mourning his death.

It’s easy to call somebody a genius these days. It’s not so easy, however, to know what it is. Genius is hard to find, harder to define. But Klitschko saw it in Steward and knows what it has done for him in a heavyweight career that was in peril nearly nine years ago.

“He was not a conservative person.’’ said Klitschko, who has won 16 straight in his stranglehold on the heavyweight division since a 2004 loss to Lamon Brewster in his first bout with Steward. “In his 68 years, he has been around young people all of the time. His spirit was young. He was always learning. He never stopped.

“He said one line: ‘You know, Wladimir, fighters are smarter than trainers.’ ‘’

If there’s genius in simplicity, there it is, distilled in a few words. The last five should be etched in stone above the door whenever they re-locate Steward’s Kronk Gym in or around Detroit. Fighters are smarter than trainers. It’s a bit of wisdom that means vigilance from a trainer looking out for the best interests of a fighter, whose only teammate is that guy in the corner armed only with a bucket, advice and encouragement. For any of it to work, he must know how to listen.

“He’s right about that,’’ Klitschko (58-3, 51 KOs) said in a conference call from Hamburg, Germany where he faces Wach (27-0, 15 KOs) at the O2 Arena. “You have to be flexible. As a trainer you tell a boxer: ‘This is the way you do it, and you do it.’

“I would express my point of view and he would express his point of view and we’d try to work it out to get to one solution. He was incredibly flexible in his way of understanding things.’’

For the philosopher and academic in Klitschko, Steward represents a role model for anybody in any pursuit.

“In life you have to be flexible also,’’ said Klitschko, who will have Steward student Jonathan Banks in his corner just one week before a Banks bout against Seth Mitchell in Atlantic City, N.J. “Every person has certain qualities: See it, use it and don’t kill it. That is a description of Emanuel. Exactly what he was.’’

What’s unknown, however, is exactly how much Steward’s voice will be missed between rounds. The 6-foot-6 Wladimir Klitschko will have to deal with something new. Wach, another unknown in a division known only for Wladimir and brother Vitali, is big. At 6-7 ½, Wach, of Poland, is taller than any fighter Wladimir Klitschko has ever faced.

If there’s potential trouble lurking in Wach’s advantage on the tale of the tape, however, it wasn’t evident during Klitschko’s hour-long session with the media.

“We had an open workout with Maruisz Wach and his coach made a little fun by putting my face on the pads and hitting my face many times.’’ He said. “It was something that was entertaining to watch. However, in the ring on Saturday, he will face the real Wladimir Klitschko. Not just images on the pads.’’

That’s part of the genius, too. If you’re worried, never do or say anything that might let them know that you are. Never let them see you sweat. Steward never did. He was way too cool for that.

EPIX WLADIMIR KLISCHKO / JOHNATHON BANKS MEDIA CONFERENCE CALL TRANSCRIPT

TRAVIS POMPOSELLO: First off, I would like to send our condolences to Wlad, Johnathan and everyone at K2 for your loss [Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Steward] a couple of weeks ago.. We are proud and honored to have Wlad back on EPIX again for the third time this year. We will have aired all of his fights in 2012 as the year concludes. We at EPIX feel that Wladimir is one of the greatest heavyweight champions of all time and it has been a real privilege to have him on our network this whole year. As always we will be streaming the event live on all of our platforms and devices as well as our television channel. We are really looking forward to this one and Wladimir breaking the record.

TOM LOEFFLER: We are real excited about this fight. It is in a sold-out arena with about 15,000 people at the O2 World Arena in Hamburg. We got a great response from the Polish boxing fans and of course whenever Wlad fights in Germany the arenas are always full. This is an unusual situation where Wladimir is fighting a taller guy – a first for Wlad. Mariusz Wach made a good impression at his public workout today. He is a very tall, very strong, very confident fighter. It will be a great night and we appreciate all the support we have gotten from EPIX. I know simulcasting live on the EPIX Times Square jumbotron [Broadway between 44th and 45th Streets] is a great marketing tool EPIX has come up with and we hope a lot of people watch again. I would like to introduce Johnathon Banks who has been with Wladimir the entire time Wladimir has been with Emanuel. It’s a touchy subject but I will put Johnathon on the line and he can tell you about how training has been going.

JOHNATHON BANKS: Camp has been going really good. We had a few setbacks or maybe a disappointment by losing one of the greatest trainers of all time, in my mind, in Emanuel Steward. Outside of that camp is good. Everyone’s spirits are high and as always we look forward to a beautiful fight.

WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO: Good afternoon everybody in the States. Wladimir Klitschko speaking. I would also like to share my feeling about Emanuel Steward. He was a great-great friend and one of the geniuses in boxing. He is not here, but we know his spirit is with us and around us. He is laughing and enjoying himself and also looking forward to that fight – I know that for sure. On the other hand, I would like to congratulate all of the Obama supporters and congratulate President Obama for winning the election. I understand politically people can be divided but it is what it is in politics. It has been on TV all day in Germany – all of the people have been following and the outcome everyone knows,
Of course, regarding the fight – I have been going through the camp which has been a little bit different by losing Emanuel. On the other hand he is with us in spirit. I also want to mention something about Johnathon Banks. Of course everyone has been wondering who is going to be my next coach. I knew from the beginning that it was going to be Johnathon Banks. The man has learned a lot from Emanuel Steward – I met them both on the same day over nine years ago. Johnathon has been learning a lot from the Kronk spirit. Of course Johnathon Banks is not Emanuel Steward – he is Johnathon Banks. Everyone has their own way of doing things and I think, considering everything, the camp went well. I had some good sparring partners … Dante Wilder was one of the greatest sparring partners I have ever had. He gave me a lot of speed and is a really talented guy. We enjoyed those sparring sessions that we had. I am also looking forward to this challenge in the ring. My opponent is undefeated, younger, heavier, taller, and has a longer reach, and everything like that. We had today an open workout with Maruisz Wach and his coach making a little fun by putting my face on the pads and hitting my face many times. It was something that was entertaining to watch. However, in the ring on Saturday, November 10, he will face the real Wladimir Klitschko, not just images on the pads. I think it is going to be a real exciting fight because Wach has the spirit of a young man that wants to become world champion. He is very self-confident and I am expecting him to be better than he usually can be because that is his motivation – his chance to be world champion and I am expecting a very good fight from Wach.

What was it about Emanuel that when you met him nine years ago you decided to put your career in his hands?

WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO: I had been working with a lot of guys and coaches in the States — well known and experienced coaches. My advisor Bernd Boente called Emanuel Steward and asked him if he could imagine working with me. Do you really want to try and work out with me because I do. You know how he is, ‘yea, yea, yea, let’s try it out and see how we do.’ I was in Marina Del Ray. So we had this first pads work and conversations and all that and it clicked. It clicked from the beginning. The relationship between Emanuel and me was very special – not just a regular relationship between a coach and a boxer, I assure you of that because he respected my experience inside and out of the ring. I respected his experience outside of the ring as a coach. Our first work was not successful – it was the first time I fought Lamon Brewster in 2004 – a fight that I lost. After which we both broke down in tears (laughs) because we couldn’t believe what happened to us. Emanuel Steward has been known for his strength to pick up the fighter when he is not on the top – when he is on the bottom. That was the situation when Emanuel started to work with Lennox Lewis. He was not in Lennox’s corner when he fought Oliver McCall then he started to work with Lennox. It was something that I believed in the coach and he believed in the boxer, in this case with me and in that case with Lennox and that made Emanuel a very special man. I have mentioned it before- Emanuel Steward is a genius in the ring and it is something and it makes me feel privileged to have worked with him for many years and be a friend with such a legend and a genius that we have in boxing.

Is there anything tactical you can say that he made you better from 2004 to today?

WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO: It is very complicated to explain everything. It is a lot and it would be impossible to mention it all on this conference call. But I’ll tell you one thing, maybe what he has changed in me? What’s amazing – Emanuel Steward hasn’t changed anything in me. He said “Wladimir, be yourself.” The thing I learned in the amateurs is about technique and balance, strategy that he has been improving on that. We basically write a script in the preparation and the script was played out in the fight exactly the way we wrote it. We were analyzing everything – the way the opponent talks, the way the opponent walks, what he has done before, what was the most common thing he repeated on the strong side of the opponent and on the weak side of the opponent. And we used it. That is what in general I am telling you.

We talked a lot. We actually talked more than we did pads work — making combinations or anything like that. We talked about boxing and we talked about life because life is like boxing. There are certain things that are comparable and one of them is life and the sport of boxing.

How do you train for a fight next week and train a fighter for the heavyweight world championship?

JOHNATHON BANKS: Amazing is what it is. It is an amazing situation on both sides. I don’t feel any added weight. It is the situation at hand. I am in boxing. I love boxing. I love what I do. As far as me training then turning around and training Wladimir – there is no pressure, because boxing is what I’m into. It’s not like I’m training a guy for a golf tournament and I’ve got a fight coming up. I am with a fighter that has a fight and I have a fight coming up so it is definitely not a problem.

How were you able to get Wladimir’s respect and what was the process like?

JOHNATHON BANKS: In the words of Wladimir, I was just being myself. I approached him with a great deal of respect and I will always have that great deal of respect for him. I feel that through the wonderful sport of boxing I earned his respect. Then I earned it more once I got to be around him.

What is your brother’s political situation in politics and are you involved at all?

WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO: Of course, Ukraine had Parliamentary elections and he is going to represent his party and also his people that were elected and voted for in Vitali’s party. Vitali has always been interested in politics and his goal is to change the way of Ukrainian politics. I can’t really be proud of Ukranian politics. Vitali has been living in different counties, United States, Germany and he sees Democracy. He knows that we have corruption in Ukraine and that is the main point — where to fight corruption. There are no rules like in boxing. I was a part of his campaign from the beginning of August until October and I’m not into politics and I’m not in his party but I am politically aware and politically active but not a politician. I also represent the majority of the country that are not politicians. I shared my experience that I have had with the people that were watching the elections and was motivating them to go vote. Because a lot of people just lost any hope that they could change anything in the country because corruption in the No. 1 disease in the Ukraine. It is like a cancer taking over the whole body, and we have to fight. The fight is not easy. There were fights for the votes and it is still going on actually. I am happy for my brother and proud of my brother that he was elected and is going to protect the interests of the people.

When was the last time you spoke to Emanuel and what did you talk about?

WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO: The last time I spoke to Emanuel was 2½ weeks ago and the only line that I got to hear from him was “Hello, hello, how ya’ doing?” Unfortunately that was the last words that I heard from Emanuel. His voice was very strong and his wife Marie held the phone. He wasn’t able to speak too much but that was the last line I heard from Emanuel – a strong, happy and clear sounding voice.

It was very sad and it is still sad. I am probably going to go over after the fight and of course there is going to be a memorial on the 13th of November. I can tell you that the real spirit of Emanuel Steward is with us. I am very happy there is a fight so we can stay focused and continue to do what he was excited about. We are doing a job we love doing and we are very excited about it. I see excitement in everyone on my team and in the man that replace Emanuel Steward – Johnathon Banks.

What kind of impact has Emanuel had on you as a human being?

WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO: I have spent more time with Emanuel in the last nine years than I have with my own father. My father shaped me as a person and Emanuel did a lot for me inside the ring. What shaping Emanuel did for me outside the ring was he was always flexible and trying to figure out how people acted. He was not a conservative person. In is 68 years he has been around young people all of the time. His spirit was young and he was always learning and he never stopped. He said one line that ‘You know Wladimir, fighters are smarter than trainers.’ Trainers are not able to listen to their fighters but they have to actually listen to them. He’s right about it. You have to be flexible. As a trainer you tell a boxer ‘this is the way you do it and you do it.’ I would express my point of view and he would express his point of view and we try to work it out to get to one solution. He was incredibly flexible in his way of understanding things. And in life you have to be flexible also. Every person has certain qualities: see it, use it and don’t kill it. That is a description of Emanuel – exactly what he was.

Do you think you can help with the future of Kronk Gym?

WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO: I saw a picture of the Kronk Gym, which has been destroyed. It made me really sad to see what happened. Kronk Gym has existed for a long time and it will continue to exist. I will do my dedication to that. Fortunately there are a lot of people in Detroit, boxers as well and boxers who have worked with Emanuel. Speaking for all of us that have worked with Emanuel and I am taking this responsibility to speak for all of us will unite to proceed with the existence of the Kronk Gym an existence of strategy of the spirit of Emanuel through the Kronk Gym. It has been taking care of a lot of young people and keeping them away from drugs and crime or anything else. Whoever will run it after Emanuel that is something we will think about after the November 10th fight. Of course I am dedicated and I will make sure all of the fighters that have worked with Emanuel are on the same page as me.

JOHNATHON BANKS: My feeling about the Kronk Gym – the name alone is my upbringing as far back as being an amateur fighter. Seeing the gym now is really hard to look at. Seeing pictures of the outside and the inside is really hard. As Wladimir said, all the fighters that have trained under Emanuel definitely want to keep that legacy going.

WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO: I will be at the memorial service on November 13. I am pretty sure that Vitali is going to come to the memorial service.

I want to say thank you very much for all the questions and the participants on today’s conference call. I want to thank you, EPIX, for broadcasting the fight in the United States. I know the Klitscko brothers have a lot of fans in the United States. I am looking forward to getting back in the States, not just as a person, but as a person to perform, as well. Everybody watch the fight on EPIX because I am very excited about the fight and I think you guys are going to be too.

JOHNATHON BANKS: Like Wladimir said, it’s going to be a very good fight. Both big guys are motivated for the fight. It’s going to be very exciting fight. As far as my fight, tune in on November 17 on HBO because that is also going to be a very exciting fight.

TOM LOEFFLER: This just proves how fragile life can be. On July 7 three men were celebrating their birthdays in the ring and now we are here without Emanuel. I just want people to realize that and appreciate people who are in their lives. Everyone is using this for motivation for Wladimir’s performance on Saturday night.

Sauerland and Weber want Wladimir Klitschko! Money on the table – 5 Million Euros to face Huck!***

The big Cruiserweight Title Fight between current WBO-Champion Marco Huck
and challenger Firat Arslan in Halle/Westphalia, Germany, is just days away.
But already Kalle Sauerland and event organizer Ralf Weber are working on
the next Mega-Fight. After Henry Maske, Axel Schulz and Marco Huck
36-year-old Wladimir Klitschko could be the next big name to appear at the
Gerry Weber Stadion. The offer to the Heavyweight World Champion: 5 Mio.
Euros! Wladimir’s opponent: Marco Huck!

But why? Kalle Sauerland: “Bernd Boente, Klitschko’s manager, has been
talking to Marco directly about the possibility of fighting Klitschko. Now
we have used the official channels to approach them with an offer.” And the
Klitschko-Camp did not take long to respond. After just 20 minutes they
declined the offer! “Of course, we are now excepting them to come up with a
counter offer. We are always willing to hold personal talks to discuss the
terms for such a fight. Then we will see if they will actually put their
money where their mouth is. We definitely want to make this fight happen.”

Klitschko versus Huck – perhaps the fight the heavyweight division has been
waiting for. “We have been working with the Sauerlands for 18 years now and
been hosting great fight nights at the Gerry Weber Stadion. A fight between
Huck and Klitscko would be the absolute highlight. We will do everything
possible to make this fight happen,” said Ralf Weber, General Manager of the
Gerry Weber Stadion.

Weber and Sauerland have come up with a financial plan to support the
Mega-Fight. Weber: “We have made a serious offer to the
Klitschko-Management, which we believe should make everyone involved happy.”

WBO Cruiserweight Champion Marco Huck: “I am very grateful to the Weber’s
and Sauerland’s for trying to give me this opportunity. I will prove to
everybody that I am ready for the Klitschkos.”

But before that, Huck needs to win against Firat Arslan. When a possible
match-up with Wladimir Klitschko could be possible has not been disclosed at
this point of time. Before such fight the current WBA Super Champion
Wladimir Klitschko has to take on WBA Regular Champion Alexander Povetkin
before the end of February 2012, as ordered by the WBA. Weber: “We would
also be interested to stage that fight in Halle/Westphalia. The winner could
face Marco Huck.”

Tickets for the fight on November 3 can be purchased at www.eventim.de and
www.gerryweber-world.de.

The telecast will include a tribute to Steward who passed away on October 25..

The telecast and live stream will also feature ROBERT “The Nordic Nightmare” HELENIUS risking his undefeated record and his march to a world title shot against battle-tested veteran SHERMAN “The Tank” WILLIAMS, live from the Helsinki Ice Hall in Helsinki, Finland.

These four gladiators boast a combined record of 137-14-2 (95 KOs) – a 90% winning percentage and a 69% victory by knockout ratio.

As has become the custom, EPIX will once again present the closed-captioned simulcast of this world championship rumble on its jumbotron in Times Square in New York City (Broadway between 44th and 45th Sts.)

“The big challenge for me is Wach’s height. It is the first time that I am facing an opponent who is taller than me and has a better reach,” said Klitschko. “He is unbeaten, a big puncher and has an irrepressible will. To fight in Hamburg once again is very special to me: I started my professional career here and last year Vitali’s and my dream to unify all heavyweight titles in the Klitschko family became true.”

“My fellow countrymen Adamek and Sosnowski did not have what it takes to beat a Klitschko. I am not a former cruiserweight but a real heavyweight,” said Wach. “Klitschko will take a lot of hard punches before I knock him out. I will be the first Polish world heavyweight champion!”

“I will be ready for the Tank,” said Helenius. “My shoulder has healed very well, my other arm has gotten much stronger now, so I will do damage with both hands. It´s great to make my comeback fight in Finland.”

“I look forward to coming to Finland. I will bring some sunshine to Helsinki. I have a special punch, the Conch Punch, an overhead right, and the Tank will catch Robert with that shot. That is my special weapon which will help me to win this fight,” said Williams.

“EPIX is very pleased to continue its exclusive live U.S. telecasts of championship boxing and the excitement of another Wladimir Klitschko World Heavyweight Championship defense. Klitschko’s dominance of the heavyweight division is a viewer magnet that keeps attracting U.S.-based fight fans and nurturing audience growth for the EPIX Sports boxing series,” said Travis Pomposello, EPIX CCO and executive producer of EPIX Sports.

Klitschko (58-3, 51 KOs), of Kiev, Ukraine, is a two-time world heavyweight champion. Wladimir began his first title reign in 2000 when he captured the WBO heavyweight title via a unanimous decision over defending champion Chris Byrd. He enters this fight riding an eight-year, 15-bout winning streak. His most recent victories were a fourth-round knockout of former two-time world champion Jean Marc Mormeck, on March 3, and a sixth-round stoppage of mandatory challenger Tony Thompson, on July 7. Both title defenses were televised live to the U.S. by EPIX.

Wach (27-0, 15 KOs), a native of Poland who fights out of North Bergen, NJ, enters his first world championship battle having won his last seven bouts by knockout, dating back to 2009. At 6’7, the two-time Polish amateur champion holds a one-inch height advantage over Klitschko, the first time the defending champion has not been the taller man in the ring. He captured the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) International heavyweight title last year via a fourth-round stoppage of Kevin McBride, the man who knocked out Mike Tyson into retirement. Wach successfully defended that title with sixth-round knockouts of Jason Gavern and Tye Fields, last November and March, respectively. Gavern and Fields had a combined record of 70-12-4 when they fought Wach.

Helenius (17-0, 11 KOs), a native of Finland who fights out of Berlin, Germany, boasts knockout victories of three former heavyweight champions, including Siarhei Liakhovich, Lamon Brewster and Samuel Peter, who were starched in nine, eight and nine rounds, respectively, between 2010 and 2011. Helenius returns to the ring for the first time since last December when he won a very close split decision over future world title challnger Dereck Chisora. Helenius, who entered that fight world-rated No. 1 by the WBO and No. 3 by the WBA and the IBF, retained his WBA and WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight titles and captured the vacant European Boxing Union (EBU) heavyweight championship. However surgery to his right shoulder and subsequent rehabilitation kept him sidelined. The inactivity also cost him his high world ratings. On a mission to gt back into the world title hunt, Helenius enters this fight having won 10 of his last 12 fights by stoppage.

Williams (35-11-2, 19 KOs), a native of the Bahamas, fights out of Vero Beach, Fla. Always ready, willing and able to meet the biggest challenges, Williams has faced former world champions Evander Holyfield, Ruslan Chagaev and Al Cole and highly-rated contenders Obed Sullivan and Jameel Kline. He enters this fight having won 10 of his last 12 fights.

Jonathon Banks to train Klitschko for Wach bout

Close friend and currant Heavyweight contender Jonathon Banks will train Wladimir Klitschko for his November 10th title defense with Maiusz Wach.

Banks replaces the late Emanuel Steward who passed away on Thursday.

Colossus Ustinov: “The Klitschko Brothers are the heavyweight kings”

Come September 29 all eyes will be on Hamburg, Germany, as three title
fights will top the bill at Alsterdorfer Sporthalle. Light Middleweight Jack
Culcay is going to defend his WBA Intercontinental Championship against Mark
Thompson and WBA World Heavyweight Champion Alexander Povetkin will be
trying to fend off the bid of mandatory challenger and former WBC and IBF
Champion Hasim Rahman. But another heavyweight bout could steal the show,
when Kubrat Pulev and Alexander Ustinov collide not only for the European
and the IBF International Championship but also the number one spot in the
IBF rankings. So the winner will come closer to challenge current World
Champion Wladimir Klitschko in the not too distant future. In the following
interview, the heavyweight colossus Ustinov talks about his chances of
beating Pulev and earning this coveted position.

Alexander Ustinov, On September 29, you will challenge Kubrat Pulev for the
European and IBF International Heavyweight Championship. How is your
preparation going?

Alexander Ustinov: Everything is going well. I am currently in the final
moments of my sparring, so on the day of the fight I will be in tip-top
shape and ready to win!

What do you expect from Pulev and how are you going to deal with it?

Alexander Ustinov: We are both experienced professionals and know the boxing
business pretty good. Kubrat will enter the ring to win just like me! It is
going to be a great fight!

You have won 21 of your 27 fights by knockout – Pulev 8 out of 16. Would you
say that you are the bigger puncher and that his power is not as much of a
concern to you?

Alexander Ustinov: I do not consider myself just as a big puncher. I just do
my job inside the ring. However, if there is a possibility to finish the
combat in the early rounds – then why not? I will take the chance!

You are currently fighting for K2, the banner of the Klitschko brothers.
Have you actually sparred with them and if so, what have you learned by
sparring them?

Alexander Ustinov: I have helped Vitali twice to prepare for a fight and it
was always a great experience for me. After that, I have realised one very
simple but very important thing: If you want to be the best, then you have
to deal with the best! I am proud of being able to help Vitali.

The fight against Pulev is not only for the European Championship but also
for the number one spot in the IBF world rankings. Therefore, if you should
be able to beat Pulev, your next opponent could be Wladimir Klitschko. Are
you thinking about that?

Alexander Ustinov: The Klitschko Brothers are currently the heavyweight
kings. Everybody wants to face them, but not everybody has the chance to get
into the ring with them. Well, if I should get that opportunity I will be
very happy.

Klitschko trashes Mormeck in Four; gets knockout number fifty

Wladimir Klitschko made his eleventh consecutive defense of his world Heavyweight championship by destroying undeserving challenger in former Cruiserweight champion Jean Marc Mormeck in round four at the Espirit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany.

All Mormeck tried to was get inside without throwing any punches. He did that successfully but that may have been the highlight of his fight because he was dropped hard at the end round two from a big right hand. Klitschko got closer until uncorking a perfect left-right-left combination that sent Mormeck down to the canvas for the count of referee Luis Pabon at 1:12 of round four.
