VIDEO: MAYWEATHER – MOSLEY LA PRESS CONFERENCE
What a scene it was, downtown Los Angeles across from Staples Center, where two of the best fighters of the last decade met to have it out in a war or words. Welterweight champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley, a native of the Pomona, CA, about 30 miles outside of Los Angeles, received much love and support from the crowd. The hometown fighter appeared to be very confident in his money green suit as he acknowledged the cheers from the fans. His nemesis, Floyd “Money” Mayweather, on the other hand, lived up to his role as the bad guy, as he was greeted by boos from most of the crowd. The two guys faced off and there was some jawing back and forth, but no pushing and shoving like a few days prior in New York. Both sides, as expected seemed confident, but the usually subdued Brother Naazim Richardson was the outspoken one. “Floyd is going to have to learn to deal with his first loss, and we will see who is still in his corner and on his bandwagon on May 2,” quoted Naazim. The overall theme of the press conference was that this is a fight for the ages…Ala Ali/Foreman or Leonard/Hearns. Whether or not it lives up to that billing, we won’t know until May 1st, but this will be as big a fight as we’ve seen in the last 10 years.
Hopkins – Jones II LA Press Conference report

It has been 17 years in the making, but the feeling and the fire still burns deep…at least in the heart of The Executioner, Bernard Hopkins. When Hopkins met Roy Jones Jr back in 1993, and 15 pounds lighter, for the middleweight title, this was the match that would catapult the winners career into the prominent position that is seeked by all fighters. This was true to form, Roy Jones Jr, went on to dominate over the next 10 plus years, being named the Ring Magazine fighter of the decade of the ’90′s. Meanwhile, Bernard took a roundabout way to gain the recognition that he’s always wanted. Bernard went on to win a record 20 straight battles at middleweight and with his win over then champion Kelly Pavlik, seems to have found the fountain of youth while making top 5 on most pound for pound lists today. It is still very evident that Bernard wants this win to put another bow around what is a sure fire hall of fame career. “Roy has been avoiding me for 17 years now, he is afraid that I now know his game and I know what he can do. he never wanted to give me a rematch because he knew he would lose.” Hopkins went on to say, “This will not be a close match. I expect the best Jones Jr. to face me, but with his diminished skills and speed, I will end his career. This fight will end in a knockout.” Either Jones is a great bluffer or he genuienly believes he will win this fight just like he did the first time around. “He has been jealous of me and my career over the past 17 years and it shows. His anger is what will get him beat in the ring…besides me being the faster, stronger, and more skilled fighter,” Jones stated.

From the beautiful Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles, California, two of the top fighters in the world met to promote their upcoming bout on November 14th, at the MGM Grand in Sin City. The Filipino media came in droves to get a glimpse of their hometown hero.

He also informed the crowd that many athletes from other disciplines, namely the New York Yankees and Giants, and the San Francisco Giants would be in attendance for the fight.

Donaire wins Super Flyweight crown with decision over Concepcion

In our main event, Rafael Concepcion of Panama faces the number one ranked Super Flyweight in the world, Nonito Donaire from the Philippines for the WBA Interim Super Flyweight Title. Concepcion failed to make weight therefore was ineligible to win the belt. It didn’t take long for the feeling out process to pass. After about the first minute of the first round Donaire began to be more aggressive and landed big shots. Concepcion, however, landed a big shot of his own which only seemed to anger Donaire who became even more aggressive. The second round was more even having both guys landing huge shots and Concepcion being cut over his left eye. There was little to no action in round three however Donaire did land a huge left uppercut. In round four, Donaire showed off his elusive defense as he dodged and slipped most of Concepcion’s punches. The end of the round saw a huge exchange of power punches with Donaire getting the better of it. Round five was a reversal of fortunes for Concepcion as he chased Donaire about the ring the entire round, landing a few meaningful punches. In round six, Donaire’s right hand seemed to bother him for he went nearly the entire round without throwing any right punches. Concepcion continued to chase and throw. The most exciting round thus far, round seven saw many exchanges, Concepcion seemed to get the best of Donaire who was very reluctant to throw his right. Round eight seemed to swing back into Donaire’s favor as he threw 4 meaningful rights that landed at the end of the round. Constantly the aggressor, Concepcion pressed the action throughout round nine although he caught with the more meaningful punches. Round ten was dominated throughout by Donaire as he landed numerous meaningful uppercuts. Towards the end of the round, however, Concepcion landed a few shots of his own. Round eleven was exciting with action going back and forth. No clear cut winner. The twelfth and final round was somewhat lackluster. Donaire danced around the ring and avoided confrontation until the very end of the round. 117-111, 115-113, 116-112 were the scores all in favor of the Filipino Flash, Nonito Donaire. Donaire improves his record to 22-1 with 14 knockouts while Concepcion dropped to 13-4-1 with 8 knockouts.
Klitschko/Arreola Press Conference

Live heavyweight boxing returns to the City Of Angels next month, September 26th, as WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali “Dr. Ironfist” Klitschko defends his title against challenger Cristobal “The Nightmare” Arreola. In the buildup to the fight, the two boxers and their respective camps met today at Staples Center, the sight of the soon-to-be brawl, in downtown Los Angeles.
WILSON SHOCKS HUERTA IN ONE!
In the main event Charles Huerta (11-1, 6KO’s) met Derrick Wilson (5-0-1, 2KO’s) in a 6 round featherweight bout at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. In a stunning upset Wilson landed a huge left hook that dropped Huerta in the first minute of the first round, giving Huerta his first loss.
Antillion takes care of Harris
In the main event, lightweights Tyrone Harris (23-5, 15KO’s) met undefeated Urbano Antillon (26-0, 19KO’s) in a ten round bout. The fight was even through the first three rounds but momentum was swaying in Antillon’s favor. Antillon seemed to land more and more flush shots and get through Harris’ shoddy defense. Come the fifth round, due to perhaps an accumulation of shots, Harris was floored twice. Managing to get to his feet both times, Harris was pinned on the ropes while Antillon landed a flurry to the body and upstairs which made referee Tony Weeks step in and stop the fight with 2:23 left in the round.
Williams nearly pitches shutout over Winky Wright; Arreola takes out McCline in four

The main event featured two fighters who have both staked a claim for being the most avoided fighter in the boxing game. Winky Wright came into the bout with a record of 51-4-1 with 25KO’s while Paul “The Punisher” Williams came in at 36-1 with 27KO’s. The first round was as anticipated, Winky landed more meaningful punches but Willimams, staying true to form, was much busier. Second round was dominated by Williams and the many combinations he threw and landed. The third round looked like the first round, with Williams more busy and Wright landing some big shots. Winky looked to mix it up a bit more in the fourth and landed more than he had in previous rounds. The fifth round went back to Williams simply due to his punch output. The sixth and seventh rounds seemed to be toss ups. Both fighters were very active and had moments when they were in control.

Chambers takes majorirty decision from Peter

In the main event of a card that took place at The Nokia Theater in Los Angeles it featured two guys seemingly on two different paths. “The Nigerian Nightmare”, Samuel Peter (30-2, 23KO’s) is in a must win situation due to lack luster showings in recent previous fights. Up and comer, “Fast” Eddie Chambers (33-1, 18KO’s), facing his biggest challenge since Povetkin, needs this win to continue rising up the heavyweight ranks. The first round seemed to be a feeling out of sorts, Peter came out throwing the jab, something he hasn’t done in the past. Chambers didn’t do much but did land an impressive right followed by a left. Second round Chambers showed off his speed and reflexes as he constantly beat Peter to the punch. Third round was more of the same, Chambers impressed with his speedy jab which he constantly pumped in Peters’ face. Chambers gained confidence in the fourth as he landed combinations, slipped nearly every punch thrown by Peter, and countered with precision. Rounds five and six were both dominated by Chambers. He doubled and tripled the jab with much success. Peter had perhaps his best round in round 7 where he began to dodge punches and land more. Round 8 turned back to Chambers as he landed perhaps his most meaningful punch, a straight right that seemed to hurt Peter. Round 9 seemed to be the dagger in the coufin. Chambers landed nearly all he threw and taunted Peter while doing it. The last round Peter came out more aggressively and perhaps stole the round. Action was pretty much one sided. 95-95, 96-94, and 99-91, all for the winner, Eddie Chambers. Chambers improves to 34-1 while Peter drops to 30-3. What’s next for Chambers? Many options are out there as he climbs the heavyweight ladder. Meanwhile, Peter goes back to the drawing board to figure out what’s next.
