NEW YORK (November 23, 2013) Last night at The Paramount in Huntington, New York, a standing-room only crowd of Long Island fight fans saw a sensational evening of professional boxing presented by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing.
Headlining the 11th installment of Star Boxing’s acclaimed “Rockin Fights” series was a sensational eight round heavyweight clash between fan favorite Vinny Maddalone and hard-hitting Houston based veteran Maurenzo Smith.
Maddalone pressed the action hurting Smith throughout the early rounds although he suffered a bad cut causing his left eye to close during the sixth round.
Maddalone had to settle for a majority draw by scores of 76-74 for Smith and 75-75 twice.
Maddalone moves to 37-8-1 (28KO’s) while Smith’s record heads to
12-7-3 (9KO’s).
In the co-main event, top junior welterweight prospect Cletus ‘The Hebrew Hammer” Seldin was extended for the first time to the full eight rounds, winning a hard fought unanimous decision over Gilbert Venegas of Moline, Illinois. Scores were 78-74, 79-73 and 77-75.
The popular Seldin improves his undefeated record to 12-0-0 (9KO’s) while Venegas evens out at 12-12-4 (8KO’s).
Huntington fan favorite Alan Gotay, 7-0-0 (3KO’s), stayed undefeated with a six round majority decision over Calvin Smith, 2-6-0 of Mobile, Alabama in their lightweight battle. Scores were 59-55 twice and 57-57.
Hicksville, New York lightweight prospect Anthony Karperis returned to action with a dominant performance, stopping Mobile, Alabama’s Michael Doyle in the fifth round of their scheduled six rounder.
Bouncing back from his first defeat nicely, Karperis improved to 5-1-0 (2KO’s) while Doyle fell to 2-7-0 (1KO).
Popular Huntington prospect Wendy Toussaint won a four round majority decision over Tel Aviv, Israel’s Ahmed Tuba in their junior middleweight scrap by scores of 38-38, 40-36 and 39-37. Toussaint improves to 3-0-0 while Tuba’s record moves to 1-2-0.
Opening the event, pro debuting Nyack, New York native Max Tassy won a four round unanimous decision over Dublin, Ohio’s Daniel Pietch in a bout contested at the 185 lb. limit. Scores were 40-36 on all three judges cards. Pietch moves to 1-3-0.
