On Saturday, August 23, Super Bantamweight Adam Lopez (8-0, 3 KOs) and Junior Welterweight Armando Cardenas (4-0, 3 KOs) took to the hill at Nelson Wolff Municipal Stadium to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the San Antonio Missions’ home game.
The talented 122 pound prospect enjoyed the experience this past weekend.
“Being on the ball field was a lot of fun,” stated Lopez. “I was really impressed with stadium. There isn’t a bad seat in the house. It’s a great venue, and I can’t wait to compete there on August 30th.”
Adam will be taking on Leonardo Torres in the co-main event of a ten bout fight card this Saturday night at “The Wolff”.
Although the prolific counter puncher is used to performing under pressure, the 23 year old fighter was admittedly nervous while trying to throw a perfect strike.
“I didn’t realize the pitcher’s mound was 20 yards away from home plate,” confessed the undefeated pugilist. “So I really had to concentrate on throwing a good pitch. Because I’m an athlete, there was a lot more pressure on me to deliver a strike.”
“The last thing I wanted was to look like 50 Cent out there. The pitch was a little high, but it was on target. I think I did alright.”
Cardenas also had some nerves as he graced the mound at Wolff Stadium.
“I always get little excited when I have to perform in front of a crowd,” admitted the 24 year old boxer while laughing. “It’s something that I’m currently working on. But it was a great experience, and it made me very anxious for this Saturday’s fight card.”
The six foot puncher will be taking on the customarily durable James Burns of Dallas/Ft. Worth in a four round special attraction this weekend.
While Armando is hoping to score an impressive knock-out on Saturday night, the talented boxer/puncher stated that he would also be happy with a unanimous decision victory and a rare opportunity to show his technical prowess in the ring.
“I hear my opponent is a tough fighter,” professed the heavy handed pugilist. “Because I’ve stopped three of my four opponents within the first round, I welcome the chance to showcase some of my boxing ability and work some rounds.”
“Battle at the Ballpark”, sponsored by “Bush’s Chicken!” of San Antonio and “Copa Ultra Lounge & Grill” on Walzem Rd, promoted by Triple A Promotions and TMB Entertainment, will feature 10 action filled bouts on Saturday, August 30, at Nelson Wolff Municipal Stadium.
