Josh Warrington captured the IBF Featherweight title with a 12-round split decision over Lee Selby in Leeds, England.

Selby was cut around the left eye in round two from a clash of heads.  In round six, it was another accidental headbutt that caused a cut around the right eye of Selby. Warrington contentiously beat Selby to the punch ver the 1st nine rounds. Selby showed a champions heart as he fought through two cuts to make the fight close, but he came up on the wrong end of the cards which read 116-112 and 115-113 for Warrington and 115-113 for Selby.

Warrington is 27-0. Selby is 26-2.

“I can’t put into words how I feel. I got into the ring tonight with the expectation of the city on my shoulders,” said Warrington. “I outboxed the boxer tonight.

“I’m overcome with emotion. We worked on gameplans but that all went out of the window and it was sheer grit and determination and this crowd got me through tonight.”
